Chapter Four| Creepy Girlfriend
Tumblr media
2009
THE WEEKEND WENT BY QUICKLY WITH ATHENA LOCKED IN HER ROOM WITH HER BROTHER JOINING HER WITH THE BRIBE OF PIZZA, and after the boy gave Sirius baked chicken the two let the boy join them in a Star Wars marathon. They made plans to watch Harry Potter the following weekend.
Athena and Jeremy stayed away from Elena and their Aunt Jenna the entire weekend, since the two wanted the youngest Gilberts to talk about their feelings. And the two continued ignoring them, so Athena drove to school in her green Bronco with Jeremy.
Tumblr media
The younger Gilberts were eating in the back of the Bronco with the trunk open. Athena parked her car at a park. They were eating in silence until the girl asked a question.
“Do you think it’ll ever get better?”
Jeremy looks at his sister with wide eyes, shocked that the girl subtly brought up their parents. He knew just like him, Athena didn’t like nor want to speak about their parents death.
The boy sees the look in Athena’s eyes. He could see the girl’s genuine curiosity, and also saw the anger in her eyes. “I think that… we’ll never get to the way we were before, but we’ll grow and become stronger people once this dark cloud passes. Once we let it pass.”
Athena hums, looking out to the empty park in front of them. “I’m tired of being angry, Jer. I just want… to be happy.”
“You will be, ‘Thena.” Jeremy says, wrapping his arms around the girl. The two hug for a moment, it being the most contact the girl has had in months, and Athena pulls away. “Ew, you know I don’t do this mushy bullshit, Jer.”
Jeremy chuckles letting his sister pull away from him. He watches the girl jump off the bed of the truck, and adjusts her skirt before turning to him. “We should get to school. Wouldn’t want to be late.”
“Can we be late?” Jeremy asks, whining. The boy complies and helps his sister clean up the bed of the truck, throwing away their garbage. “Nope. I heard you’ve missed six classes already.”
“Please, don’t lecture me.” Jermey says, scoffing. The girl climbs into the driver's seat as he gets into the passenger seat, and the girl looks at Jeremy starting up the Bronco. “I’m not. I’m just letting you know that I heard Tanner called Aunt Jenna in about you.”
Jeremy groans, leaning his head against the headrest. “Great.”
The two didn’t speak about anything on the drive to school only sang - more like screamed - to The 1975. They almost missed their first classes. But the Gilbert girl made it to her class just as the last bell rang. She was sitting in her history class as Mister Tanner spoke to a sleeping class.
"Originally discovered nearly five centuries ago it hasn't been over Mystic Falls in over a hundred and forty-five years. Now, the comet will be its brightest right after dusk during tomorrow's celebration."
Athena was drawing in her sketchbook - not much of a surprise since it wasn’t her favorite class. She seemed to be in her own little world. It almost seemed like she wasn’t really there.
"Are we bothering you? Mister Salvatore? Miss Gilbert." The man adds making Athena look up from her paper, only to see he was not looking at her, but her sister. Thankfully, the bell rings.
Athena jumps out of her seat and out the door wanting to get away from that classroom with the irritating man. She catches up with Caroline and Bonnie and hears the part of their conversation.
"I'm confused. Are you psychic or clairvoyant?" Caroline asks, looking at the Bennett girl. The blonde notices Athena and loops her arm with the girl. Bonnie smiles at the Gilbert girl, and answers the blonde’s question. "Technically, Grams says, I'm a witch. My ancestors were these really cool Salem witch chicks or something. Grams tried to explain it, but she was looped on the liquor. I tuned out. Crazy family, yes. Witches, I don't think so."
"Yeah, feel free to conjure up the name and number of that guy from last friday." Caroline says, smirking. "Ohh, new boy toy?" Athena says smiling, wiggling her eyebrows at the blonde playfully.
"Maybe, If Bonnie helps a girl out." Caroline says, looking at the Bennett girl. "I didn't see him. You did." Bonnie says, rolling her eyes with a smile on her face.
"Why didn't you just talk to him?" Athena asks, raising an eyebrow. She knew the girl always took the chance to speak to someone good looking. "I don't know. I was drunk." Caroline says, making the two laughs.

"They're keeping her overnight, but she should be able to come home tomorrow." Matt says to Athena who asked about Vicki during their lunch break. The two were walking around the school.
The girl’s heels clicked on the cement as she walked. Athena hadn’t worn heels since her parents funeral, but she woke up wanting to wear heels. The girl decided on a black v-neck, light washed jeans, and animal print heels.
Tumblr media
"That's good." The Gilbert girl says, nodding. The blonde, blue eyed boy sighs, running his hand through his air. "Yeah."
Athena hums, and thinks about the Donovan’s absent mother. "What about crazy mama?"
"Called and left a message. She's in Virginia Beach with her boyfriend. So we'll see how long it takes her to come rushing home." Matt says, shrugging. He knew he didn’t really need the woman, in fact he thought that his sister and himself were better off without the woman. "I’m just glad she’s okay." Athena says, looking up at the boy.
"Me too… And now there's talk of some missing campers." Matt says, remember the words he heard on the news that morning. "Did she see what kind of animal attacked her?" She asks, curiously.
"She said it was a vampire." Matt says amused, yet confused. "What the hell?" Athena stops walking. The two stop, as the girl looks at the boy wanting to know more.
The blonde male nods. "Yeah, she wakes up last night, mutters, 'Vampire,' and passes out."
"That's not weird." Athena says, sarcastically. The girl couldn’t help but think, out of all the things the girl could say, attack her, and she says a vampire. A creature that isn’t even real. It just confused Athena the more she thought about it.
"Think she was drunk.” Matt says, shrugging, then he sees the new kid sitting at a bench. “So, what's up with Elena and the new guy?"
"I have no idea, but I'm going to find out." Athena said, as she smirked looking at the back of Stefan’s head. "Don't scare the guy now... I'm actually gonna go back to the hospital. I wanna be there when Vicki wakes up, get the real story about last night." Matt said, walking backwards.
"Alright, I'm going to go bury a body. I-I mean make a friend." Athena says as the boy gives her a look, before turning around with a roll of his eyes.
"I guess I'll play nice." Athena says smiling, cheekily. "Good girl!" Matt yells, chuckling.
The girl turns back to where Stefan was sitting on a bench only to see he's gone. Athena frowns trailing her eyes to see if the boy was walking around, but it was like he completely disappeared.
"So, my sister wants to date a ghost?” Athena says, raising an eyebrow, but the girl shakes her head at the thought. “God, this town keeps getting weirder and weirder as the days go on."
• • • •
The school day came to an end for the students of Mystic Falls High School. When the Gilbert girl’s got home, Athena let Sirius out and fed the dog. They were then asked by their best friends to meet them at the Mystic Grill.
It took a while, but Elena convinced her sister to let her drive them. Athena agreed hesitantly, but climbing into her sister’s car nonetheless. Thankfully, the older Gilbert didn’t talk about feelings instead they talked about Vicki and Elena letting her sister talk about the book she was reading at the moment - The Diviners.
Athena and Elena saw their best friends sitting outside the Grill with fries and tea already at the table for Athena. “Oh, food.”
“Hello, to you too.” Caroline says, glaring at the girl playfully. The girl hums with fries in her mouth. The three girl’s began folding flyers for the comet as Athena drew in her sketchbook tuning out the girl’s until Bonnie began talking about her Grandmother, that’s when she became curious.
"I was talking to Grams. She said the comet is a sign of impending doom. Last time it passed over Mystic Falls, there was lots of death. So much blood and carnage, it created a bed of paranormal activity." Bonnie says, explaining to the girl's her interest in the comet that was going to happen the following day.
"Mm. Yeah, and then you poured Grams another shot and she told you about the aliens." Caroline says, scoffing at her best friend. "My kind of woman." Athena said with a smirk, making the girls laugh.
"So, then what?" Care said then turned to Elena who was talking about her night with Stefan. One that Athena didn’t really want to hear about, but listen nonetheless. "So then, nothing." Elena says, shrugging.
"You and Stefan just... talked?" Athena asks, curiously. "There was no sloppy first kiss, or touchy-feely of any kind?" Caroline says, not believing the girl.
"Nope, we didn't go there." Elena says, shaking her head. "Not even a handshake? I mean, Elena, we are your friends. Okay? You are supposed to share the smut." Caroline says, almost offended.
"Okay, sister here, and gross." Athena says, disgusted. "We just talked for hours." Elena says shrugging, ignoring what her sister said.
"What is with the blockage? Just jump his bones already. Okay, it's easy. Boy likes girl, girl likes boy, sex." Caroline said, ignoring the looks she got from Bonnie and Athena. "Profound." Elena says glaring at the girl, playfully.
"Let them go on a couple dates first, I mean come on." Athena says, shaking her head. Sure the girl didn’t care if people slept together the first time they met, but if her sister really likes the guy - by the looks of it, she did - she thinks her sister should get to know Stefan before sleeping with him. "Says the seventeen year old virgin." Caroline says with a roll of her eyes.
"You know what, I'm happy being a virgin. Maybe I want to lose it someone I actually want to be with, not just someone I can't even look in the eyes the next day." Athena says, raising an eyebrow at the blonde.
"Where are you going?" Bonnie asks Elena, watching the girl stand and push in her chair. "Caroline's right. It is easy. If I sit here long enough, I'll end up talking myself out of it instead of doing what I started the day saying I was gonna do." Elena says nodding to herself, then walks away.
"So, you’re just going to ignore what I just said about being a virgin and proud?" Athena yells after her sister. "Shhh! That's not something you yell to the world." Caroline says, shushing the girl, and hits her arm.
"Oh my god. Like it affects the whole world that Athena Gilbert hasn't been deflowered." Athena says rolling her eyes, sarcastically. The girl’s eyes then wided with realization. "Oh, fuck she's my ride.” The girl runs towards her sister’s car, as the other girl’s laugh behind her. “Goddamn it, Elena!”

Chapter Three| Little Hunter
Tumblr media
2009
“THE BATTLE OF WILLOW CREEK TOOK PLACE AT THE END OF THE WAR IN OUR VERY OWN MYSTIC FALLS. How many casualties resulted in this battle?.... Miss Bennett?" The history teacher says, boring the class to death.
It was Friday, and Athena couldn’t be happier. She didn’t care about the party and didn’t want to go but a certain blonde was forcing the girl to go. But, the way she saw it, was that it was an easy way to get free booze.
"Um… A lot? I'm not sure. But, like, a whole lot." Bonnie says, nodding, hoping it would please the man. Athena chuckles, looking down at her sketchbook. Today the girl wore a pink lace top - that Caroline got her -, black cargo pants with a belt buckle, a cropped jean jacket, and black tennis shoes. She was having a bad hair day, so the girl also had on a black bucket hat - one that she stole from her brother.
Tumblr media
"Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Miss Bennett.”
Athena scoffed at the man. No one particularly liked the man, especially when he was an asshole to anyone and everyone. Including the quiet kids. “Mister Donovan. Would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your jock stereotype?" The man says, turning to a laughing Matt.
"It's okay, Mr.Tanner. I'm cool with it." Matt says, getting laughs from the class.
"Athena? Surely, you can enlighten us about one of the town's most historical events, And not just the fictional greek gods and goddesses." Tanner says turning, to the girl that was still drawing in her sketchbook. "Gods and Goddesses history, I know. But this History is a bore, sorry." Athena says shrugging, carelessly.
"I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Athena. But the personal excuses ended with summer break." Tanner says, making everyone go silent. The girl looks up from her book with a glare on her face. "Well-"
"There were three hundred and forty-six casualties, unless you're counting the local civilians." Stefan says, cutting the girl off making her friends sigh in relief. "That's correct, Mr...?" Tanner says, turning to the boy.
"Salvatore." Stefan says, nodding to the man. "Salvatore. Any relation to the original settlers here at Mystic Falls?" The man asks, curiously.
"Distant." Stefan says, almost hesitantly. The youngest female Gilbert picked up on it, and tilted her head at the boy. There was no reason to be hesitant, but the boy was. It was as if he was choosing his words wisely.
"Well, very good. Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle."
"Actually, there were twenty-seven, sir. Confederate soldiers fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. And they were wrong. It was a night of great loss. The founder's archives are in Civil Hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts Mr.Tanner." Stefan says, smartly. "Did Mr.Tanner just get Tannered?" Athena says laughing, as soon as those words left her mouth everyone seems to break and laugh along with the girl.
• • •
The moment Caroline and Athena parked, the blonde ditched the Gilbert girl and spoke to other people. Athena wasn’t too mad about it, since she didn’t feel like socializing at the moment. Instead the girl began looking around for the good booze.
"Where is all the good liquor when you need it." Athena says groaning to herself, straightening the jean jacket. She’d been wandering around looking in coolers, and no luck it was all beer. Not even the good kind, it was a cheap liquor.
"’Thena, hey." Tyler says, walking up to the girl. "Hey, Ty." Athena says, absentmindedly as she continued opening the group of coolers in front of her
"What are you up to?" Tyler says, looking down at the girl. Athena sighs standing up straight, and looks at the boy unamused. "Is that your way of asking if I'm okay?"
"A way is which I hope you won't bite my head off like everyone else?" Tyler says, hesitantly. "I won't if you point me to the good stuff," Athena says, smirking.
"This way my lady," Tyler says, walking her over to the coolers where Vicki is standing. "Hey, lady Donovan." Athena says, smirking at the girl.
"Hey, How-" Vicki starts.
"Don't start Vics. I actually like you. Don't make me want to rip your head off, too." Athena says, seeing vodka and other juices. The girl sees strawberry lemonade and sprite, and mixes the two and adds a larger portion of vodka. Athena hums, taking a sip from the solo cup, and nods to the two teens watching her. "I'm going to leave you, two. Don't do something I wouldn't do."
Athena didn’t feel like walking around the drunk teens, and decided to walk into the woods. Tyler and Vicki watch the girl’s body disappear into the darkness. The boy makes a mental note to tell Elena where the girl was.
"She's a lot off work." Tyler says, turning back to the female Donovan. "But you gotta love her."
The Gilbert girl let her feet guide her to the same spot she was earlier that week. The spot her father brought her two countless times. The same spot she met a stranger. Athena took a seat on a large rock, and drank what was in her cup in silence.
That silence was soon broken by a snap of a branch. Athena jumps up, spilling the contents of her cup on the ground from the shock. “Who’s there?”
Athena knew how stupid she sounded, like a white girl from a horror movie. But she couldn’t help it. Her question was somewhat answered, as the man from earlier that week walked into the moonlight. “Hello, stranger.” A man says, smirking at the green eyed girl.
“Oh, it’s the creep.” Athena says, rolling her eyes at the man, as she still had a cautious stance. “Scaring girls in the middle of the woods seems to be a normal thing for you.”
"Only the gorgeous, green eyed ones.” The man asks, looking the girl up and down. A smile grows on his lips hearing the girl scoff. “You know I never got your name.”
"You scream 'Stranger Danger' so I'm not gonna tell you." She says smiling, sarcastically at the man. "Will it help if I tell you mine?" The man asks, with a tilt of his head.
"How do I know you're not using a fake name?" She asks, making him laugh. "I'm Damon. Damon Salvatore." The man says smirking, holding his hand out for the girl to shake.
"Okay, now James Bond." Athena says rolling her eyes, downing what is left in her cup. "I said my name. I'd like yours." Damon says, stepping closer to the girl.
The girl sighs, and nods at the blue eyed man. "Athena Gilbert… You happen to be related to Stefan Salvatore?"
"Yes. My brother actually." Damon says, with a sigh of displeasure. "Nice, he apparently likes my sister and I need something on him." Athena says, straightening her jean jacket.
The man shakes his head chuckling, but nods nonetheless."Alright. Ask-"
"Jeremy!" They hear a yell. The voice sounded like Elena which worried and confused Athena.
"Uh.. I have to go." Athena says, turning to Damon. The man grabs onto the girl’s arms, stopping her from leaving. He looks into the girl’s angry, green eyes.
Athena frowns, and looks at the man confused as he spoke. "You never saw me. You came to look at the view, nothing else."
The girl pushed the man away from her. “What the hell, asshole!”
Damon looks at the girl in confusion, and is shocked that the compulsion didn’t work. The girl scoffs, rolling her eyes at the man. “You really shouldn’t go around manhandling girls like that. That’s a one way street to having a girl kick your ass.”
"Jeremy!"
Athena doesn’t say anything else, and runs in the direction of the yell. The girl ran, jumping over fallen branches, and moved branches out of her way. She sees Elena following their brother as he walks away from her. "Jeremy, where the hell are you going?" Elena says, looking down to not trip over anything.
"I don't wanna hear it." Jeremy yells angrily, looking back at the eldest Gilbert. The moment of distraction caused the boy to trip over a log and onto the ground. Athena runs faster, and stops abruptly beside her brother and sees a bleeding Vicki Donovan.
"Vicki? No." Jeremy says, looking down at the body below him. "Oh, my God, Vicki." Athena says with wide eyes.
Athena pushes her shock away, and jumps to help the girl. "Let's go. Jeremy pick her up, we need to help her."
"Somebody help!" Elena yells, as the three Gilberts break through the forest trees. Everyone turns to the three, and Matt Donovan runs towards them confused with Tyler right behind him. "Vicki? Vicki, what the hell?"
"What happened?" Matt asks, looking at the three Gilbert’s. "Someone, call an ambulance!" Athena yells, to no one in particular.
"Everybody back up. Give her space." Tyler says, pushing people away. "It's her neck. Something bit her. She's losing a lot of blood." Elena explains holding the girl's neck.
"Vicki, come on, open your eyes. Look at me." Matt says, to the girl. "They're on their way." Bonnie says, with her phone in her hand.
The minutes before the ambulance went by as a blur for Athena. Once the ambulance came the two youngest Gilberts sat on a bench in silence with Elena standing in front of them. Only breaking when Bonnie walked up to them. "Hey, we're gonna go get coffee and wait for news."
"I gotta take Jeremy and Athena home." Elena says, motioning to the two that sat on a bench.
"I'm right here." Athena says, throwing a rock at the girl’s feet. It went ignored, making the girl groan and her brother to laugh at her childish antics. The boy had his headphones in and was blasting music not wanting to hear anyone's voice at the moment, and when his sister moved sharkly it broke him from his thoughts.
Athena ignored the conversation going on between her sister and their best friend. She rested her head on her brother’s shoulder, and kicked her feet on the rocks below her feet.
"You okay? I called Jenna. She's on her way." Elena says, looking at her phone as Bonnie left. Athena ripped the headphone out of Jeremy’s ears, gaining his attention. “Bitch.” Jeremy says, hitting the girl’s thigh.
“Jerk.” Athena says, hitting the back of her brother’s head. The two began hitting each other, making their sister groan as she tried to stop the two from hurting each other. “Hey, stop it!”
The younger sibling sighs and takes a drink of the beer they grabbed in unison.
"Those people in uniforms? Last time I checked, they're the police.” Elena says, jokingly. She sighs watching her sibling ignore and down the beers, tossing the bottles into the metal barrels behind them.
“People are gonna stop giving you breaks, Jer. They just don't care anymore. They don't remember that our parents are dead. They've got their own lives to deal with. The rest of the world has moved on. You should try, too. And being a smartass and getting angry isn’t going to solve your problems, Athena."
"Says the girl who sits in the cemetery writing in her diary." Athena says sarcastically, looking at her sister with bored eyes. "Is that supposed to be you moving on?" Jeremy adds.
"Mom and Dad wouldn't have wanted this." Elena says, looking at the two. "Don't be so hypocritical, ‘Lena." Athena says, rolling her eyes.
The three made it home, Athena went straight to her room with Sirius. While she changed into sweatpants and a t-shirt, Sirius jumped onto the girl’s bed getting comfortable. Seeing the dog sleeping Athena opened her window and climbed out to the roof to look at the full moon above. "Elena says we need to move on… I hate it."
“You hate everything, little hunter." She says mocking, her father's deep voice. The girl then sighs, tiredly. "Yeah well I hate you the most. Leaving me in the place we call earth, more like hell."
"I feel like I'm dying more and more each day. I want to feel alive." Athena says, softly. She plays with her necklace trying to stop herself from getting angry. "I've lost you. I can't lose myself, either. But tonight feels different, I feel like I actually have hope. I... Just don't know what for."
Athena’s mind was racing, but she couldn’t concentrate on one thing. So, she sighed and looked down at her hands seeing the chipping black nail polish. She focuses on the thought of her mom painting her nails every weekend, and now she had to do it herself.
The girl sighs, and looks at the moon thinking of her father. "I love you… from our first war to our last."

Chapter Two| Stranger Danger
Tumblr media
2009
THE DAY WAS GOING BY VERY SLOW FOR ATHENA GILBERT. Yet, she was able to escape for lunch and missed the period after lunch - which was gym. She didn’t do anything interesting, but she went home to pick up Sirius and drove to the forest preserve.
Athena hiked through the woods going off the man made path and taking her own path that she and her father blindly made when the girl was younger. A time when her anger was at an all time high, the father went hiking with the girl in hopes it would clear her head. Just as Sirius was another attempt at calming the storm inside the girl.
Sirius was trotting a little ways ahead of the girl who was jumping over a fallen trees - glad she put on her converse she had in her car for emergencies - and continued walking adjusting the straps of the bookbag on her back. The bag was full of what she saw as essentials, a sketch book, blanket, and food for not just herself but for her dog. Athena also carried an aluminum bat in her hands, ever since she and her father had a run in with creeps in the woods the girl always brought a bat with her just in case.
The girl stopped at the edge of a cliff and looked out to the man made lake in front of her. She laid out the blanket she brought with her and the food she got on the way. Athena opened the container of fruit and baked chicken she had for Sirius, and poured some water into a portable bowl she brought for the dog.
It was a small treat since she hadn’t been to this spot since her parents death. Athena patted the dog’s head then let him eat as she sat in silence letting her phone vibrate from beside her with the texts and calls from her sister and the friends she convinced to text her.
Athena didn’t want to speak to anyone but she did text Caroline and Jeremy that she needed to clear her head, but she was fine. She didn’t care to read their reply as she continued to eat her chicken tenders and fries in silence.
The wind was cold from the lake in front of her. Sirius sat beside the girl closing his eyes, enjoying the silence. Athena on the other hand had racing thoughts, but didn’t really know what she was thinking about - if that makes sense - she just stared at the lake blindly. Soon she felt the need to draw and picked up her sketchbook to the next blank page.
She drew in the book blindly, letting her hand lead her.
The silence broke with a stick breaking behind her. Athena’s pencil breaks as she comes back to the present, and Sirius stands alerted by the noise. She doesn’t move while listening as another branch breaks, and the girl jumps up with her bat in hand ready to strike whatever made the noise.
Sirius growls then a man walks out. The dog stops growling and sniffs towards the man cautiously. Athena glares at the leather chad man in front of her. The man’s hands raised in surrender, watching the girl’s calculating eyes trail over him and the dog that could attack him. “Whoa, there. I’m not going to hurt you.”
“No. You’re not going to hurt me because I’d hit you before you do... But sneaking up on a girl in the middle of the woods isn’t exactly helping your case.” Athena says with the baseball still in her hands. “Okay.” The man trails off, sitting on the large rock beside him.
Athena raises an eyebrow at the man, and scoffs. “Do you need something?”
“No… Just came to enjoy the silence.”
The girl mumbles curses under her breath about how annoying the man is for choosing her spot in the entire forest behind them. It amused the blue eyed man, watching the girl pack her things angrily.
“You don’t have to leave.”
Athena sighs, running her hand through her hair. “Yes, I do.”
The girl nods at the stranger and walks in the direction of her car with blue eyed man following a little ways from the girl. Sirius kept looking back at the man but followed his person nonetheless. The bat rested on her shoulder ready to strike the man if he were to attack.
“I never got your name.”
The girl hears as she steps onto the parking lot. “And you won’t get it! Bye, stranger!”
The man chuckles watching the girl get into her car and drive away from him. “I’ll get that name.”
The second half of the day went back fast for Athena - thankfully - and she ended up hanging out with Caroline at her house letting the girl rant about the new kid, the name couldn’t remember.
Athena tuned the blonde out as she drew in her sketchbook again, but she heard the blonde girl ask her to go to the Mystic Grill with her and Bonnie. “Elena will be there.” Caroline says, trying to convince the girl.
“That’s not very convincing.” Athena says, boredly. The blonde rolls her eyes at her blunt best friend, and sighs. “I’ll buy you fries.”
“Why didn’t you start off that way. Let’s go!” Athena says, grabbing her light washed jean jacket. The two girl’s climb into the blonde’s car.
The Gilbert girl’s mood seemed to have become happier as they sang - screamed - to the music playing on the radio. Caroline was going to enjoy the happier side of her best friend while it was around.
The blonde wanted the happier side of the Gilbert girl to be around more often and around more people, but the blonde knows about the inner demons the girl faces in her head. And sometimes those demons took over the girl’s mind. But Caroline knew that she only knew the surface of what the girl thought. It saddened her that Athena might not open up to her or anyone about what runs through her head.
“Bon-Bon.”
The Bennett girl turns and sees a smiling Athena walk up to her with Caroline behind her. “Hey, ‘Thena.” The girl says surprised, looking at the blonde questioning the green eyed girl’s mood change.
Caroline shakes her head at the girl, to not ask the wrong thing that might send Athena’s mood down again. The blonde turns to Athena. “Why don’t you go order us drinks and get your fries.”
“Okay.” Athena says, nodding then turns to the Bennett girl. “Want anything?”
“Uh, coke?” Bonnie says, smiling. The girl walks towards the bar as Caroline sits at the table with Bonnie. “Someone’s happy. That was a much nicer greeting than what I got this morning.”
The blonde sighs, nodding at the girl. “Bad morning. There were too many emotions from other people today. I don’t think she knew what to do with them, so she came out as grouchy. But when we got to my house she was quiet. I think she was coming back down to earth, and now she can feel her own emotions again. Thankfully, when the sun went down it was happy emotions she felt today.”
“Is she getting better?” Bonnie asks, softly. The four used to be so close, but over the summer Caroline stuck to Athena, while Bonnie stuck to Elena. “I didn’t hear about her snapping at someone today.”
“I think she’s… trying to understand what it is she is actually feeling. She was never good with emotions before the crash. What makes you think she’ll understand and accept the grief she is forced to feel now?” Caroline whispers, looking at the green eyed girl.
Athena was talking and joking with Vicki Donovan. She was laughing at the joke the Donovan girl said, making Caroline smile. “She’s getting there slowly but surely.”
Caroline sees the green eyed girl walking back to the table, so she clears her throat. “Anyways, back to more important things.”
“Important things like what, Care-Bear? I think a sane person’s definition of important can be different to what you see as important.” Athena says teasingly, getting a glare from the blue eyed girl. The Gilbert girl sat across from the blonde. “Boy’s.” Caroline says, smiling.
“I’m not surprised.” Athena says, under her breath. “Go on then, tell us everything you know.”
Vicki came over with the girl’s drinks, fries, and chicken tenders that the Gilbert girl ordered. Once the girl left Caroline spoke as Athena began eating. "His name is Stefan Salvatore.”
“That’s his name.” Athena says with a snap of her finger. She went ignored as the blonde looked and Bonnie. “He lives with his uncle at the Salvatore boarding house. He hasn't lived here since he was a kid. Military family. They moved around a lot. He's a Gemini, and his favorite color is blue."
"You got all of that in one day?" Bonnie asks, raising an eyebrow. "I got all that between third and fourth period... We're planning a June wedding." Caroline says sighing, happily.
"You know some guys actually like to tell the girl these kinds of things. Not for the girl to already know… Did you know that?" Athena says tilting her head, mockingly. "What do you know, you don't even have a boyfriend." Caroline says, rolling her eyes at the girl.
Athena scoffs, and mumbles. "Maybe, because your drama is enough for me to steer clear of the opposite sex."
"Alright, enough you two." Bonnie says, waving her hands at the two. "I am going to talk to Tyler." Caroline says, getting up and walking to the boy at the pool table.
"’Thea?" Bonnie says, raising an eyebrow at the girl. "Oh come on! Don't you start too. You’re supposed to love me." Athena says, pouting at the girl.
"Hey." Matt says, walking up to the girls. "Hey." Athena says, smiling at the new distraction from Bonnie’s lecture.
"How's Elena doing?" Matt asks, softly. "Damn, straight to the point I see." Athena says, only to get ignored. She rolls her eyes at the boy, and dips a chicken tender into the ranch before taking a bite.
"Her mom and dad died. How do you think? She's putting on a good face. It's only been four months." Bonnie says, with a small shrug. "Has she said anything about me?" Matt asks, curiously.
"Oh, no. So not getting in the middle. You call her." Bonnie says, shaking her head. "I feel weird calling her. She broke up with me."
"Grow a pair." Athena says snorting, taking a drink of her raspberry tea. "Ignore her. Just... give it more time, Matt." Bonnie says, just as Elena walks in with a certain new boy.
"More time, huh?" Matt says, then walks up to Elena. Athena makes an ‘ooh’ing sound, clapping her hands at the drama about to unfold - hopefully. "Oh, beat his ass Matty Blue!"
"Athena!" Bonnie says, hitting the laughing girl. "Hey, I'm Matt. Nice to meet you." They hear Matt say to the new kid.
"Hi... Stefan." Stefan says, shaking his hand. "Hey." Elena says, to Matt smiling.
"Hey." Matt says, walking away without another word. "Goddamn it, Matt. Don't you love me?" Athena says, as Matt walks by.
"Yup. That's why I ignored you, ‘Thena." Matt says winking, getting a pout from the girl. “Rude.” Athena mumbles.
"Elena!" Bonnie calls, making her and Stefan walk over to them. Then Caroline walks over smiling.
"Just in time I see." Athena says sarcastically, knowing Caroline wants Stefan. She really wished her best friend wasn’t motivated by boys, but she still loved the girl nonetheless. "Play nice." Bonnie says, hitting the girl’s leg
"I am nice." Athena says, getting a look from the beautiful dark skinned girl. "Kind of nice?"
"So, you were born in Mystic Falls?" Caroline asks, Stefan after the group sat in silence for a few moments. "Mm-hm. I moved when I was still young." The boy says, nodding at the blonde.
"Parents?" Bonnie asks, curiously. "My parents passed away." Stefan says, looking between the Gilbert girl’s.
"I'm sorry." Elena says, looking at Stefan. "Aren't we all." Athena says bitterly, as she spun the straw in her glass. They all could visibly see the girl's happy mood going down.
"Any siblings?" Caroline says, changing the subject. "None that I talk to. I live with my uncle." Stefan says, turning back to the blonde.
"I'm going to need something stronger if we're going to continue this very boring conversation." Athena says, standing. "Sit." Bonnie says, pulling the girl down.
"Why." Athena whines, making Stefan smile. "So, Stefan, if you're new, you don't know about the party this friday." Caroline says, bring the attention back to her.
"It's a back-to-school thing at the falls." Bonnie explains, smiling at the boy. "Are you going?" Stefan asks, turning to Elena.
"Of course she is." Bonnie says, smiling. "I'm not." Athena says, bored with the whole conversation. She was playing with her straw spinning it in her glass, boredly.
"Yes, you are." Caroline says, smirking. "Bonfire with annoying and horny teenagers?... Pass." Athena says, sarcastically.
"There will be liquor." Caroline deadpans. "I, now, will be going." Athena says smiling, brightly.

Chapter One| Bullshit
Tumblr media
2009
“ATHENA GILBERT! You better be up when I get up there! Don’t make me get the water bucket!”
The teenage girl shoots up in her bed. Her hair is sticking every which way. The shaggy black dog jumps off the bed alamed by the yelling in the usually quiet home. “You wouldn’t!” Athena yells back to the woman.
“Watch me!”
The girl pauses as if testing the woman, then she hears her Aunt Jenna in the hallway bathroom filling up a bucket. Athena jumps out of bed and runs to her own bathroom. “I’m up!”
Athena washed up, and put on some mascara and chapstick. She looks at herself in the mirror and sighs at her tired reflection. “You got this, ‘Thea. It wouldn't be the first time people ask 'Are you okay?', 'How's your family?'. All the stupid questions, and you will not snap." Athena says, to herself.
"And now I'm talking to myself... Great, I'm turning into Elena." The girl says groaning, walking back to her room. Athena looks at her dog who was laying on the bed. “Lucky asshole. I want to sleep.”
The girl grumbles to her dog about being lazy, but she goes ignored as the dog huffs at her. Athena looked through her closet and found what she wanted to wear for the day. She puts on a yellow top, black and yellow plaid pants, black heeled boots, and she tossed her black jean jacket over the top. Athena left her hair in his natural waves then moved onto jewelry. She placed it on a watch and silver rings and necklaces, then grabbed her black bag on her way out her room.
Tumblr media
"Your first day of school, and I'm totally unprepared... Lunch money?"
Athena hears Jenna say as she makes her way down the stairs to the kitchen. "Thank you." Athena says, grabbing the money in which the woman held up -  giving one of the two twenties with her brother.
"Thank you." Jeremy says, smirking at Athena. She knows he'll either buy drugs or food, most likely the first one. But she let him grieve his own way just as she did. "Shut up." She says, pushing the boy away when he kissed her cheek. The girl then then walked to the back door to let the dog out.
"Anything else? A number two pencil? What am I missing?" Jenna says, mostly to herself. Athena and Jeremy down there coffee they’ve stolen from their sister. "Don't you have a big presentation today?" Elena says, attempting to pour her third cup of coffee.
"I'm meeting with my thesis advisor at.... Now. Crap." Jenna says, looking down at her watch. "Then go. We'll be fine." Elena says, letting Jenna run out the door. It was silent in the home for a moment and they all enjoyed the calm before the storm, until the eldest sister spoke up while Athena filled her dog’s water and food bowl.
"You okay?" Elena asks, looking at the youngest Gilbert. "Don't start." Jeremy says in annoyance, walking out the house with a slam of the door.
Athena sighs, and goes to the door and yells to the black dog. “Sirius! Breakfast!”
The dog runs into the home happily and runs to his food bowl. Elena watches her sister wash her hands, and speak up as the girl grabs a hand towel. "’Thea?"
The green eyed girl grabs her house keys from the counter, patting Sirius’ head on her way past. "Nope, sorry not sorry, but you're my sister not my councillor."
"Bonnie-" Elena starts.
"Care’s picking me up!" Athena yells, walking out the door to her best friend who was waiting. “See you at school!”
"How-" Caroline starts, as her best friend gets in the car. "Finish that sentence and i'll rip your tongue out." Athena says pointing, and glaring at the blonde girl.
"Alright." Caroline says, throwing her arms up starts then backs out of the driveway. "Just... Crying and talking about it isn't going to bring them back, Care." Athena says, after a few minutes in silence.
"Okay, I'll stop but it might make you feel better?" Caroline says, as she pulls into the parking lot. "Wanna make me feel better?. . . Help me feel alive." Athena says, with a double meaning. They climb out of the car and meet behind the car.
"Come on, Care. You can go ask how Elena is doing." Athena says, as they walk towards the school. "Yeah and maybe she won't bite my head off." Caroline says, playfully glaring at her best friend.
"Sorry, not sorry." Athena says shrugging, making them both laugh. "Hey, I have to go talk to Katy. She wanted to talk about the bonfire." Caroline says, looking around for said girl.
"I don't like Katy." Athena says, disgusted. "I know."
"Fine. Go away. Cheat on me with... Katy. Just know I gave you the best sixteen years of my life!" Athena yells dramatically after Caroline, as the blonde walks away. "I don't know her!"
"First day of school and already embarrassed Caroline in the first hour... Check." The girl says, walking through the doors happily. "God, can't people mind their own goddamn business." She says, seeing the looks she was getting. She then runs into someone much to her dismay.
"Seriously? Can't even walk the goddamn halls without someone irritating me." Athena says, to herself. "Sorry.” The stranger mumbles, as he steadies himself and the girl.
“It’s whatever.” Athena says, adjusting her bag on her shoulder, then looks up at the boy. The girl looks at the boy who had sunglasses on his face. She tilted her head at the boy curiously having never seen the boy before. “Who are you?”
“Uh, I'm Stefan Salvatore." The boy says, putting his hand out.
"New?" Athena says, raising an eyebrow. Only to get a nod from the boy making her sigh knowing she should act nice, so she puts on a  bright smile. "I'm Athena Gilbert."
"Like the-" Stefan starts. "Yup. Goddess of war, half-sister of Apollo and Artemis, and the daughter of Zeus and Metis." Athena says, almost annoyed.
"Right." Stefan says, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. "You know it's pretty stupid to wear sunglasses indoors. Has anyone ever told you that? It's like you're trying to draw attention to yourself with the whole dramatic 'I'm too cool for school' bullshit." She says seriously, stunning the boy. The girl seemed to be proud of herself and nods at the boy.
"I'm walking away now… Bye." Athena says, walking away spotting her sister with Bonnie at her locker. The green eyed girl sighs, and walks up to the two. "Hey Bon-Bon."
The two girl’s stop talking and watch as the green eyed girl goes through her locker. Elena was hoping one of their shared friends would get the girl to talk about her feelings, but she failed to get Caroline to talk to the girl about the crash. It wasn’t that Caroline didn’t care about Athena, the blonde just knew how the girl’s brain worked.
Bonnie kept shaking her head and Elena - who was motioning for Bennett to speak to Athena for her - but she sighed, giving into the eldest Gilbert’s request. "Hey, ‘Thena. How-"
"Are you really going to waste your breath? My answer is always the same." Athena says, rolling her eyes. She shuts her locker and smiles at the Bennett girl. “I’ll talk when I’m ready. Just… let me be for now.”
"Right." Bonnie says smiling, she’s missed the blunt comments from the Gilbert girl. The three walk side by side towards the direction of their first class. "Hold up. Who's this?" The Bennett girl stops in front of the office.
"All I see is back." Elena says, with a tilt of her head. Both Gilbert’s hum looking at the boy in the office. "It's a hot back." Bonnie excuses.
"New kid. I just talked to him and I already forgot his name." Athena says, with a hum. It was only eight in the morning - ten minutes before class started - and the girl was already bored out of her mind. "I'm sensing Seattle, and he plays the guitar." Bonnie trails off, ignoring the girl’s comment.
"You're gonna run this psychic thing into the ground, huh?" Elena says, smiling. "Psychic?" Athena says laughing, looking at the girl.
"Pretty much." Bonnie says, shrugging her shoulders jokingly.
"Jeremy, good batch, man."
Athena hears a boy say from down the hall, then she sees Jeremy walk to the bathroom. She doesn’t think too much about it and ignores it but her older sister - by a few months - can’t seem to let the boy slide away.
"I'll be right back." Elena says, then storms off into the boy's bathroom. "Elena! Seriously!" Athena says with a groan, as she follows after her sister.
The girl bumps into a boy as he storms out of the bathroom, she sidesteps the boy and continues her way into the boys bathroom after Elena. Athena walks past the wall and sees Elena standing behind Jeremy who was at the sink.
"Great. It's the first day of school, and you're stoned." Elena says, grabbing the boy's shoulder and turns him to her as she checks his eyes. "Elena, chill out." Athena tries.
"No, I'm not." Jeremy says, scoffing as his eldest sister. "Where is it? Is it on you?" Elena starts to check the boy, and patting down his sweater.
"Stop. Chill yourself, all right?" Jeremy says, pushing his sisters hands away from him. "Chill myself? What is that, stoner talk? Dude, you are so cool." Elena snaps.
"Elena stop!" Athena says, stepping in between them. She hated when her sister became hypocritical. Athena and Jeremy knew the girl continued to sit in the cemetery alone, while they stayed in the rooms. "I don't have anything. Are you crazy?" Jeremy says, looking down at the middle sibling. Sadly, she was the shortest of the three, but she held her own.
"You haven't seen crazy, Jeremy. I gave you a summer pass. But I am done watching you destroy yourself. No, you know what? Go ahead, keep it up." Elena shouts looking past her sister. "Elena enough! You're our sister not our mother... She died in that goddamn car crash!" Athena snaps, pushing her sister away from them.
It becomes tense between the three as they look at a temperamental Athena. The girl always had anger issues, but she had her father that helped her get that side of her under control. Whether it was boxing classes, art, meditation, and everything under the sun, all of it went out the window when her father died. He was the main reason way the girl didn’t lash out, and now that he was gone… the girl became unpredictable.
"Athena-" Elena says, trying to put her hand on the girl’s shoulder but Athena flinches away. "Walk away, Elena, before you make me angry." Athena snaps, glaring at the girl.
Elena looks between Jeremy and Athena, and sees the glares directed towards her making her sigh. She nods, and walks out the bathroom without another word. Athena lets out a breath she didn’t know what was holding and leans against the sink as if to bring herself back down to earth.
"I'm sorry." Jeremy says, softly. He watches as the girl’s shoulder raises and falls as she breathes but he gets a weak shrug in response. "We've all got our own coping mechanisms. No one can tell you when to get over something."
The five minute bell rings making the girl stand up straight, and turn to her brother. "Look I got to get to Tanner's but uh… Please just get to class… For me?"
"Sure." Jeremy says, kissing his sister's head.

Chapter Three//Elijah Mikaelson
Tumblr media
• • • • • •
When walking the three noticed the looks they were getting. The three weren’t the most subtle not that Rebekah wanted to be, all three knew what they were doing they wanted to be known.
Rebekah wore a beautiful black jeweled dress, her black coat with a ruby red fur trim, wrapped around her, along with her signature ruby red lipstick. Klaus also wore a black suit with a blood red tie, then there was Kol who wore a navy blue suit with a black tie, and both had a matching black coat with gold buttons with a “M” engraved on them.
When Rebekah walked into the bar it went silent. Klaus and Kol stood behind her, smirking at the looks they were getting. “Three light whiskey’s, good sir.” Rebekah says taking a seat at the bar.
“What’s a lot like yourselfs doing in a town like this?” The barman asks the three. The two men smirk, but Rebekah answers. “We’re in search of someone close to us.”
“And who might that be?”
That was when Rebekah noticed the Barmaid listening in on the conversation while serving others. “A man by the name of Mikaelson. Do you know him?”
“What do you want with Mr.Mikaelson?” The man says in a tone that makes the woman raise an eyebrow. “We have some unfinished business.” Klaus says then downs his drink. Rebekah noticed the barmaid climbing onto a chair with the help of a man next to her.
The female Mikaelson was curious about the woman she seemed off. Her attention turned back to the men in front of her with the woman began singing to the men in the bar.
“What business might that be? Why here in Small Heath?”
“Your full of questions, mister. We don’t like idiots asking questions. It leaves loose ends, and we don’t like loose ends.” Kol says in a snappy tone. “Now, I’m going-” The man points to Kol angry about to kick them all out of the bar.
“Boy’s enough. We just came to speak, not to fight.” Rebekah says annoyed. Before the man can say anything four men walk into the bar and silence follows the in suit. Yet, the Barmaid continues to sing while the men look at her unamused.
Rebekah had to give her credit where it’s due, she was getting glared at by the first man that walked in. Elijah was easily spotted in the group.
“Well, I’ll be damned.” Rebekah smirks. Her brother looked very much different from the last time she had seen him, with a peaky hat and all. Certainly out of style for the Mikaelson name and all. That’s was when Klaus and Kol noticed him as well.
“We haven't had singing in here since the war.” The man that was speaking to the said walking towards the group. “Why do you think that is, Harry?” Elijah sighs in responds.
Silence was all that followed Elijah’s response, but Kol didn’t like it. “I don’t know. Can you tell me why this lovely barmaid cannot sing? She’s quite beautiful.”
Klaus smirks seeing the three men that were with his brother glare at Kol. “Yeah. Want can’t the beautiful woman sing?”
“Men and their cocks, I tell you.” Rebekah rolls her eyes. “Who are you lot?” One of the men questions annoyed, he was older than the rest. About the same age as Finn would have been.
“We’re-” Rebekah starts then is cut off by her brother. “May we speak in private?”
Klaus and Kol look to there sister to see her response. Rebekah stares at her brother then sighs giving into the man's wishes. “Fine, I suppose you would want us to embarrass you.”
The eldest Mikaelson the shows the three into the other room that was in the bar with the men that he walked in with following almost curious as Elijah grew rigid in the presence of these people, when he was usually calm and collected.
“Who are they, Elijah?” One of the men question while the three devil’s got comfortable, smiling mischievously at there brother. The man that asked had icey blue eyes and dark brown hair.
“I’m offended, brother.” Klaus mocks. “You’d think he was disgusted with our presence if he hasn’t told them who we are.” Kol adds playing along with Nik.
“Enough boy’s.” Rebekah says boredly. She notice how uncomfortable her older brother was with her presence. It was silent for a moment, Rebekah staring down her brother while he to had not broke eye contact with the woman.
“Perhaps, we came to visit at the wrong time. I’ll have my people give you my contact information when it’s a good time-”
“No.” Elijah stops the blonde woman from standing. Elijah used to be close with his younger siblings, looked out for them like a big brother should, but once Theseus Mikaelson was born and taken from the woman everything shifted. And the man couldn’t pick a side. “I’m just in shock. How is it that you’ve found me?”
“That’s for me to know, and you not to. At least not yet.” Rebekah says looking at her brother who finally took a seat in front of them. “You always had secrets, Bekah.” Elijah says to the woman.
“Secrets are what keep people breathing.” Rebekah smirks, then turns to the three men standing behind the Mikaelson. “The Peaky Blinders, huh? I see you’ve done well without us.”
Kol laughs darkly. “Don’t make me laugh, sister.”
“He would have done better with us by the looks of it.” Klaus says looking them up and down. “And the homes here aren’t the greatest.”
“Enough boy’s. We’ve come to see family not laugh at how he makes a living.” Rebekah says with a sigh. “Kol, Klaus, why don’t you get us more whiskey.”
“Why can’t-” Kol glares. “Kol.” Rebekah says in a tone that showed it was the final word. And she always did have the final word in any argument.
“Fine.” Kol snaps standing up with his brother. “We’ll be right by the door.” Klaus says looking at his twin.
“I know.” Bekah nods.
Elijah was surprised seeing his two brother listen to someone. Then again they all were there for one another when everything went to shit, and most certainly was not. And he’s regretted it ever since.
“How have you lot been?” Elijah asks not looking away from the woman in front of him. The last time he had seen her was before the war, sure they have exchanged letters but that was it. It wasn’t the same as it was before.
“Where haven’t I been, Lijah.” Rebekah laughs. “Russia, Italy, America… France.”
That last seemed to dampen the mood but Elijah looked over it. “With what money? The family betting shop was burned down years ago.”
Rebekah then laughs darkly at the mention of the old family business. “The Mikaelson name is a well respected name to people in high places. We do well on our own.”
“Why haven’t we heard of you?” The youngest of the men asks with a toothpick in his mouth. “Because darling, you lot don’t exactly scream power, like the people we do business with.” Rebekah smirks seeing the man glare down at her.
“For example, what do you think when you look at me?” Rebekah leans back in her seat, straightening her dress and taking off her coat. “Money? Class? Style? Education? Sexy? Power?”
“Then when people outside of Small Heath - also know as people you could be doing business with - look at you lot, they think. Poor, trashy, bitter, uneducated, shall I go on?” Rebekah says looking all the men in the room up and down. “I’d watch your tongue if I were your missy.” The eldest male says angrily.
“I’m just being honest, love. And it’s Miss Mikaelson to you.” Rebekah raises her hands in surrender. “There is a whole world out there to explore. And you lot just stick to being here in this shit hole? Where’s the fun in that? Where’s your sense of adventure?”
“And who do you do business with, sister?” Elijah asks changing the subject. He knew that Thomas was thinking about expansion, and all that his sister was saying was encouraging that thought.
“Who don’t I do business with, brother?” Bekah says with a scoffs, then answers seeing the look she was given. “A few businesses in London, some in Cambridge, Russia, Italy, America, and France. We’re working on the other neighboring countries. As we age the business does.”
“While you were build a life for yourself, Elijah. I was building an empire. With this empire we no longer have to live like the poor. But I see that’s just what you got for yourself.”
Elijah could tell the woman was angry but her eyes showed the sadness and confusion she felt. “I’m not poor, Rebekah.”
“Compared to your younger brothers and sister? You most certainly are. It’s quite sadly that your younger brothers and sister are far more successful than you are, Elijah.” Rebekah nods, then gets an idea. “I think you should have dinner with us. This friday. You can bring your new friends as well.”
The woman then stands, putting on her coat with Elijah helping like the gentleman he was. “Where do you reside?”
“Right.” Rebekah nods then takes out a card that was in her clutch. “Ask for Davina, she’ll tell you where we reside.”
“Off I go then gentlemen.” The woman nods with a tight smile. “I truly hope you can make it to the dinner. Bring the wifes while your at it.”
With that the woman left with her brothers.

Chapter Two// Sirius The Dog
Tumblr media
• • • • • •
It took a while for Niklaus to get used to the luxury life his sister has now given him, yet when he did get slightly used to it he loved it. He was royalty with his name and loved it, it was the complete opposite of what they grew up with.
“Mister Mikaelson.” A maid - Ms.Daisy - walks into his office. The woman was much older than the rest of the staff, and Rebekah absolutely adored the woman. “Yes, Ms.Daisy?” The man says not looking up from his papers.
“Miss Mikaelson wishes to have you in her office.” The woman says softly. She knew she held the female Mikaelson’s respect, yet she didn’t know about the males. “Very well.” Nik nods, putting down his pen.
“Ah, Nik’s here now, Bekah. Out with it will you I have a party to attend.” Kol says sitting on one of the sofas in the room.
Nik had just walked into the room seeing his brother drinking his whiskey, Davina and James his sister’s right hand man and woman sat on the sofa across from Kol, and his sister sitting at her desk with many papers in front of her. Just because she now had both her brother’s helping with the family business that does not mean she let them know everything.
It was still hers in the end, that was when she became selfish. She’d protect them with everything she has, but it was her pride the didn’t let the brother’s in on every little secret. It was rare seeing a woman in a mans world, and Rebekah took pride in seeing the men she doesn’t business with see it is a woman. She loved proving everyone wrong.
“Alright.” Bekah motions to the chair in front of her desk, which Nik sits in taking out his own cigarette. “Have any of you seen Elijah? Or heard from him?”
“No.” Klaus shakes his head highly confused. The last time he had seen his brother was a year ago when the soldiers that survived - physically - the war and got to go home. “Why do you ask?”
“She wishes to search for him.” Davina scoffs. “From what I’ve heard he left you three in the dirt.” James adds in his still strong Brooklyn accent.
“They’re not wrong. It’s a lost cause at this point.” Kol nods to the two. “He’s our brother.” Rebekah shakes her head, not believing the words coming from her brother.
“Elijah chose to leave us. He didn’t know our living situation when we came back. What if you didn’t have the money you had? We may have well been on the streets for god's sake.” Klaus says agreeing with the three.
Now that the three Mikaelson were once again together, and it meant everything to Rebekah. They have put their empire together, and then some. They now got allies. In car parts, rum and gin, and many other business deals. Yet, it wasn't enough. Rebekah wanted to share her newly found riches with her eldest brother.
Which is why she had Davina - the accountant and very close friend - find the man. Her just need to break the news to her brother’s of their findings.
“I already had Davina search for him.” Rebekah says downing her drink, ignoring all there reasons. “He resides in Small Heath, Birmingham. And he has since the war apparently.”
"What's he doing in that shit hole?" Klaus says, he knew a man by the name of Kimber wished to do business with them, yet his sister turned him down because he had no morals. "Scaring the Mikaelson name that's what." Kol scoffs lighting a cigarette.
“Ain’t that the truth.” James scoffs. He was a man from America, Brooklyn to be exact. He came to London to escape after the war when he had lost so much. And Rebekah became a close friend to the man.
"He's our brother. We always care for our own." Rebekah says sitting at the head of the table. "He chose not to come home, sister. Or have you forgotten-" Klaus tries to reason.
"I haven't forgotten that we are still family. But it seems you have, brother." Rebekah snaps at the man, making them all go quite. "What's the plan then, Bekah. Your business. Your call, no matter how terrible it may be to us." Nik sighs.
Rebekah looks outside her window in a thought. "We visit him in Small Heath, Birmingham. See where that leads… for now.”
• • • • • •
The following week the Mikaelson's, James, and Davina were on there way to Birmingham from London. Rebekah got a train cart to themselves, and everyone was scattered around the cart in the sofas that resided in it.
"What should we be aware of in Birmingham, Davina." Kol asks.
"Peaky Blinders - they own a small betting shop - they run Small Heath with the help of your brother." The woman says looking down at the papers in her hand. She truly was Rebekah’s glue to the business, and she just so happened to be her close friend.
"Elijah Mikaelson?" Kol questions getting a nod. "Our Elijah with gangsters?" Klaus asks again.
"Yes, gentlemen. I don’t stutter." Davina nods from her seat beside Rebekah. "Well, I'll be damned." Rebekah laughs highly amused.
"Perhaps, brother does have a bad bone in his body." Kol snickers getting laughs from his siblings. "We shall see." Rebekah smirks.
Rebekah had two cars sent to Birmingham. It was easy seeing as the Mikaelson's built the cars and car parts for a living. The woman wanted the best of the best for her brother's so she's worked to get it, and it has truly paid off.
As the sibling drove through the streets of Small Heath, they've gotten looks. Whether is was curiosity, lust, or disgust. It was suffocating being in Small Heath.
"Why would Elijah settle in such a town." Kol says from the back of the car. "I don't know. But that’s why we're here, Kol. To get answers." Rebekah sighs.
The Mikaelson's were never poor like Small Heath, but they weren't rich like London either. That was until, Rebekah made a name for them. So, it stumped her as to why her brother would settle here of all the places. James took Davina to the new Mikaelson Manor. Rebekah had a feeling the lot would be staying a while. Elijah was just as stubborn as they were when they wanted something.
The three Mikaelson's climb out of the car they stopped in front of a flower shop. Rebekah smiles softly seeing a few children running across the street towards them. Kol and Nik came to stand beside there sister, looking around them cautiously.
Rebekah was in her own world seeing the little shops around them, but then heard a cry come from the alleyway. The woman runs towards it seeing three boys kicking a crying figure.
"Hey!" Rebekah shouts. The three boys then run away seeing they have been caught. "Blasted children.”
Bekah and Nik bend down towards the boy that couldn't have been more that eight years old. He had blonde curls, and gorgeous blue eyes. They could almost beat the twins eyes.
"What's your name, love?" Rebekah says softly taking her coat off and wrapping it around the boy. "I don't have a name, miss." The boy says shyly looking down at his feet.
The Mikaelson's were all surprised by that. "Why don't you have a name?" Kol asks.
"Mama, won't give me one."
"Would you like a name?" Nik asks. "Very much, mister." The boy nods quickly.
"How about Sirius?" Rebekah asks with a smile. "It's a star. A dog to be exact, and also my favorite star in the entire sky, because it shines the brightest."
"I like it." The boy smiles. "What's your name, miss?"
"Rebekah. Rebekah Mikaelson." The woman smiles helping the boy stand. She then smiles see the boys cautiously looking at her brothers. "The blonde is Niklaus, and the other is Kol. My brothers."
"Pleasure, mister." The boy says softly to the two men.
Rebekah smiles down at the boy, helping him stand. "If you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation like that again I want you to ask for the Mikaelson's. Alright?"
"Yes, ma'am" The boy nods. "I hope to see you again, Sirius." Rebekah smiles softly.
The boy gave the coat back then runs towards what they believe to be his home. "He's not yours to worry about, Bekah." Kol says softly.
Bekah sighs. "I know."
The moment was then forgotten when the woman left the alley and walked towards the bar, Davina told her about. The Garrison. “How about a drink, boy’s?”
“Now you're talking.” Kol says smirking. She hadn’t told the two about the significance of the place but they would soon know.

Chapter One// The Mikaelson Family
Tumblr media
• • • • • •
The story of the Mikaelson’s was one of tragedy, love, betrayal, happy, and family. Yet, it was always about family.
The Mikaelson’s were a happy family, at least that’s what the mother and father wanted people to think. The father never liked Rebekah and Niklaus Mikaelson. So, much he beat them.
Yet, no one could stop there father from hurting the Mikaelson twins. They were a disgrace to the Mikaelson name.
Niklaus and Rebekah had each other when it came to needing to be healed. Kol - the youngest of the Mikaelson's - looked up to the two, and Elijah - the second eldest - cared very much about them.
Then there was Finn the eldest of the Mikaelson children. He absolutely loathe his siblings, he thought they were below him, and it didn’t help that there mother and father favored him over the others.
Then 1911 came around. The twins were sixteen and Rebekah found out she was pregnant with child. The father being a local baker’s son.
Rebekah’s mother and father couldn’t have that disgrace in the family name. So, they faked it. They lied to the poor girl until the child was born. That was when the worst happened.
“One more push, Miss Mikaelson.” The midwife says to the young soon to be mother. Rebekah’s screams filled the room. Kol and Niklaus on either side of the girl.
“Come on, Bekah. Soon you will have that beautiful child in your arms.” Niklaus says kissing his sister’s head. He to was very excited to see his niece or nephew. “It hurts Nik.” Rebekah cries.
“It’ll soon be over, Bekah. I promise.” Nik says softly. The girl nods and give one final push, and squeezed her two brother’s hands. But the boy’s pushed through that pain especially when they heard a beautiful cry of the child.
“It’s a boy.” The midwife smiles, handing the baby to the nurse to clean him off. “A boy.” Rebekah gasps with tears in her eyes. She saw this baby as a new beginning.
“What’s his name?” Kol asks. He was only fourteen, yet he act just like his older siblings. Very mature and childish at the same time. “Theseus. Theseus Mikaelson.” Rebekah smiles at her younger brother.
“Sounds like a king if I’ve ever heard one.” Nik smirks, happy to see a smile on his sister’s face. “May I hold him?” Rebekah asks softly.
“Of course, miss.” The nurse smiles. Then suddenly there were men in the room. Two holding Kol and two hold Nik, and one held Rebekah down on the bed.
The three Mikaelson’s yelled, struggling to get free and cried out questioning what was happening. Then they saw their mother taking the new born baby. “No.” Rebekah gasps getting her brother’s attention.
“You are not fit to be a mother.” The woman say to her daughter, as she held the baby and smiled down at him. “I haven’t even held him, mother. How do you know I will not be a fit mother?” Rebekah questions with tears in her eyes.
“You had him out of wedlock. He is a bastard child now. That was your first mistake.” The woman says then walks out the room. “No! Please, mother! Please!”
Screams filled the home from not just the child but Rebekah as well. Nik and Kol were let go and the midwife and nurse was rushed out of the room and the door was locked. Klaus and Kol were the only ones to comfort the girl. Elijah just stood outside the room in shock that there mother and father could do such a thing.
The following days the three younger Mikaelson’s didn’t leave the room, even when the door was unlocked. Kol only left to get food from Elijah. None of the three could face their mother and father without wishing to lash out.
“I want them dead, Nik.” Rebekah says with her head on his lap. “One day, sister. I promise you.” Nik says strongly. There hate towards their mother and father had increased since the birth of Theseus Mikaelson.
“Why not now?” Kol says coming into the room. Rebekah sits up. “You’re to young, Kol. To be thinking of such things.”
Kol makes a face of disgust when hearing that. “They have hurt you. I don’t care how young I am, Bekah. And what a should and shouldn’t be thinking about.”
“Well I care that you are so young, Kol.” Rebekah says pulling the boy to sit beside her on the bed “I care that you are supposed to be a child. Just because I had a child and had to grow up doesn’t mean you have to as well, brother.”
“They’ve hurt you, Rebekah. I can grow up and hate them all I want.”
This was the three Mikaelson’s reason or big bang if you will. The time they came together as one.
Rebekah shares a smirk with Klaus. “Off with their heads then, brothers.”
• • • • • •
It was 1914. Finn and Elijah were off helping with the war to please there father. The three younger Mikaelson’s began to please their parents while semi-replacing their older brothers. Even going as far as to help the family betting shop.
One day, Kol came across a couple papers when he was working in his father's office. They were the twins birth papers. They didn’t have their father’s name on the documents like the others. Only there mother’s signature.
“Kol. Are you done? It’s time to go home.” Rebekah says knocking on the door. “Bekah.” Kol says in shock, still not looking up from the papers.
Rebekah moves towards her brother. “What is it?”
“Here.” Kol hands the girl the papers.
The blonde takes the papers thinking he just had a question about something then notices that it was her birth papers along with Nik’s. “Why isn’t father’s name on here?”
“I don’t know, Bekah.” Kol shakes his head. Suddenly the doors to the office slam open. “What’s going on in here?” There father says angily.
“What is this?” Rebekah says with teary eyes. Nik stood behind there father, then walked towards his sister and brother seeing the papers.
“I thought it was obvious you weren’t mine.” The man says lighting a cigar. “Then why torture us?” Rebekah says with a broken sob.
“Those around us couldn’t know your mother was a harlot and the two of you were bastards. Bad for business.”
“All to please those around us?” Nik says looking at the man with disgust. “Where’s our real father?” Rebekah says holding her twins hand.
“Six feet under.” The man grunts. “Why?” Bekah gasps.
“A waste of space really.”
“You bastard.” Bekah says with disgust.
The twins glare at the man with disgust as Kol was still trying to wrap his head around the entire situation. Everything was happening so fast, his father threw Rebekah to the ground a gunshot following.
Rebekah was in shock seeing her father’s falls to the ground in front of her; dead, and Nik holding the gun with shaky hands.
“Nik.” Rebekah stands pushing the gun to the ground. “He was going to hurt you, Rebekah.” Nik says with teary eyes.
“I know. You saved me. You saved me, Nik. It’s alright.” Rebekah hugs the man. “Mother’s next.” Kol says glaring at the man they called a father.
“In time, Kol.” Rebekah whispers.
In time, indeed. There mother was found dead the following morning by the hands of Rebekah. And soon the family betting shop was burned down by Kol.
Nik, followed his brother’s in fighting in the war. Rebekah and Kol stayed behind taking care of any loose ends when it came to their parents deaths. During the war, Rebekah made the Mikaelson one to fear.
The name Rebekah Mikaelson was held respect in all the right places. She loved the feeling of men and woman fearing her. At least those that stayed during the war.
Then came a telegram bearing news.
Rebekah and Kol got news of Finn's death, yet they didn't feel grief only relief. She could have cared less, really. But when she got the news that Niklaus and Elijah were coming home she was overjoyed as was Kol. What a man he has become while his brother’s were gone. Taking care of Rebekah as his brothers ask even though she didn’t need taking care of.
"Nik!" Rebekah yells to the man. She and Kol were at the train station waiting for there brothers. "How I've missed you." Nik sighs hugging his sister, then Kol.
"And Lijah?" Kol asks. "He doesn't wish to come home. Perhaps he's not ready." Nik sighs.
"Not ready? What about family?" Rebekah asks with wide eyes. Before Niklaus could say a thing a man called out to them. "Miss Mikaelson."
"Yes, James?" Rebekah turns to the soldier. "Your cab is here."
"Right. Take his bag will you, James?" Rebekah motions to the bag Nik held. The man does as told taking Nik be surprise. But Rebekah just leads her brothers towards the cab that would take them to the new home Rebekah had built.
That was when Niklaus notice the clothes the two wore. They were very flashy, clean, and classy something the man could only hope to wear. "Who's he?"
Rebekah smirks. "He works for me, Nik. I made you a promise when you left and I intended on keeping that promise."
"Since when?" Nik asks, and his brother chuckles answering the blonde man. "You've been at war for almost four years, brother. We had to do something to not only survive but to amuse ourselves."
"I've created an empire, brother. And with the help of you and Kol we can make it an even larger one." Rebekah smiles. James opened the door for the Mikaelson's, letting them into the cab.
"So, what do you say, brother? Care to join in on the fun?" Rebekah asks. "When do I start?" Klaus smirks.
