Ereri : A beginner’s guide

The snk fandom is ever-expanding, and with new fans come new shippers. Maybe your’e one of them. No doubt you have plenty of questions about the ship and the shippers, I’m here to answer them; because not so long ago, these were my questions too. Honestly, I was afraid someone would think that my questions were silly, so I never really asked them. Google was basically my best friend there :’) but this simple Q and A compilation should get you covered. So let’s get started!

1. Why is it called ereri?

 This is a romantic relationship between Eren Jaeger and Levi Ackerman. Levi was initially mistranslated as Rivaille and that’s what stuck to the ship names.

Ereri is used to refer to both, though.

2. Why do people ship them?

A lot of reasons! Some enjoy the courtroom scene, where Levi kicked Eren to within an inch of his life (Personally squicks me out, can you tell?). Some people like the superior-subordinate dynamic. Others like the slow but strong platonic bond building between them. Some like the symbolic “humanity’s strongest’ and ‘Humanity’s last hope’ feel. 

Some just happened to stumble upon fanfictions (which, by the way, are excellent) and were instantly convinced. Ditto with fanart. And there are so many shippers whose stories I’m yet to hear!

3. So is it canon?

Romantically? No. But Eren and Levi share a strong bond fueled by mutual trust and respect (and a bit of awe). Currently, as per official sources, Levi is Eren’s mentor figure/vanguard.

4. The official art tends to suggest that ereri is canon… I’m confused.

Ah, the official art… aka the fuel to our fangirl-fire. It’s true! A lot of the official art does give off ship vibes between the two. Is it because the animators ship it? Is it to boost merchandise sales? Is it because Eren and Levi play an important role in each other’s lives?

Who knows? All we can do is be sob gratefully into the nearest soft thing.

However, no ship is canon unless explicitly stated by Isayama.

5. How popular is ereri among all snk ships?

It is extremely popular. I don’t have current statistics, but fanlore tells me that when snk was released, everyone and their mother shipped it. 

Last time I checked, ereri is the most popular ship of snk; (even appearing in the top 20 ships of 2015) and has a huge presence on ao3 as well. (Again, my stats are fuzzy currently but if someone can give them to me I’ll put them up!)

6. What are antis? Why are there so many about ereri?

Anti is short for anti-shipper. In short, people who are against a particular ship. And yes, an uncommonly large number of people are against ereri. Their main arguments are the large age gap between the two (which they incorrectly call pedophilia) and the courtroom scene I mentioned earlier (which they use to label the whole relationship as abusive).

 Their aim seems to be to stop shippers from shipping ereri and they do so by baiting and spamming shippers with hate, spamming the tag with hate or in extreme cases, suicide-baiting and rape/death threats.

7. What’s the community like?

So far, I have no complaints. My ereri family is so sweet and caring and supportive <3 However, I must warn you that there are some bad eggs. Some shippers crosstag, harass people for not liking ereri, harass their own friends for not liking ereri in the same way that they do, and basically you’d do better to stay away from.

Most of us aren’t like that, though! We are simply a bunch of content creators who use Tumblr as a platform for our ship and interact with each other quite happily. We support and comfort each other. We share each other’s ups and downs. We are decent human beings.

About Kuroshitsuji’s Chapter 134 & 135 ;

Here I am as usual! I’m late, I know... This past week has been quite awful. A member of my favourite Korean band passed away, so... But let’s talk about Kuroshitsuji now! I didn’t write a post about Chapter 134 because it was too short to write something interesting, so I’ve decided to wait for the next chapter. The result is that this will be a veeeery long post, because there is so much to talk about! Let’s start!

Nothing new in Chapter 134 ! We know that someone has intruded in the manor killing everybody, including Count Phantomhive and his wife. Our Ciel, poor little baby, found their dead bodies and it’s been a real shock. But look: Vincent’s ring disappeard. The main hypothesis was that Real Ciel found their parents before Our Ciel and took the ring with him. Now, thanks to Chapter 135, we know that this is exactly what happened. Let’s move on to Chapter 135. _______________________________________________________________________ 

Both the twins have been kidnapped: now they have a price, they both became some sort of merchandise or slaves. In XIX century, that was very common: kids weren’t “precious creatures” like nowadays: they used to work (and work a lot), and sometimes even noble children were kidnapped and sold as prostitutes or something like that. Just think about Victor Hugo, Charles Dickens and Giovanni Verga and you can understand the situation of young kids during XIX century: Yana Toboso showed that to us with Book Of Circus: that wasn’t fictional, that was reality.  _______________________________________________________________________

These are, in part, the same words of Chapter 131: Our Ciel always thought that Real Ciel was the strong one; now he realizes that in this case they are both powerless, because they are, afterall, just kids. It’s so sad, look at them... _______________________________________________________________________

Now we can finally understand the sentence “Who stole the candy from my tummy?” that Our Ciel discovered on the wall in Chapter 128. The Phantomhive ring was the “blue candy” that Our Ciel stole from Real Ciel, pretending to be the real one and the only count.  ______________________________________________________________________

Baron Kelvin again, remember Book Of Circus? We know very well that he had an important role in this part of the twins’ life. Now we can understand what exactly happened at that time: he bought the twins and brought them with him at his house. We know he was kind of obsessed with those two little children, they were precious to him, because he was so fascinated by the Phantomhives when he first met them at a party. He just can’t believe his eyes.

That was so shocking...  So, we don’t know yet who those people are and what they do in that place, we just can understand that it’s some sort of religion who venerate the devil or some kind of god anyway, and they live for pleasure, lust and human instincts. That was also common in the Victorian Age: people were obsessed with religion and purity. Sex, homosexuality, lust, desire, all these things were taboo. It was a world where even sexual relations between husband and wife must be pure and moderate, because they had to have sex only to procreate and not for their pleasure; it was a world where even the legs of the tables and furniture were covered, otherwise they would be too shameful and lustful. In a world like that, nobles and bourgeois must need a way to satisfy their human instincts. That’s why there were a lot of brothels in the first place, but also this kind of secret sects and cults, where women but most of all children were used by those people. 

Ps: the outfit of the twins are the same of Our Ciel’s dream in chapter 98, when we finally had a proof that he had a twin brother. Let’s just wait for the next chapter, maybe we’ll see Real Ciel’s death and we’ll finally understand what happened back then. I hope so!

i love them….i truly do! i am so happy and blessed that i was able to find and fall in love with such a beautiful group with such beautiful members. i wish all of them so so so much happiness in their lives, they deserve it so so much. they’ve been able to and still are giving me so many strong, happy and beautiful emotions and i thank them for that. i just…. they make me so happy, they make me cry, they make me laugh and they make me smile. i love shinee with my soul♡

Goodbye, Jonghyun... You were a special person, who always had the amazing strength to face a serious problem like depression. You always had a smile on your face, you let your songs speak for you and about you, about your bad experiences, because you wanted to help people like you. Despite the conservative Korean society you talked about mental illness and homosexuality. We ALL have to LEARN from you. You were and you'll always be a person to admire. I want to remember you with a picture of your smile, because it was the best and most beautiful smile in the world. A pure and kind smile. You were just too pure, sensitive and kind for this world. I'm so sad that even though your strength, in the end you gave up, because it was too much for you. I really hope for you to find the peace you deserve. I've always thought of you like an angel: now you really became one. We will never forget you. You and SHINee were always there to help us during bad moments. I don't know what to do now.
