aang & air nomad ty lee friendship things!

they meditate together every morning and evening

when they are together in the same location they do this side by side. when they're apart they keep the same set times, so they still always do it together

Ty lee teaches Aang all she knows about chi paths

Aang shows Ty Lee traditional airbending forms

(does Ty Lee ever gain airbending ability in this universe? honestly i havent decided. probably? but it's not a plot point of focus)

Aang can tell all of her sisters apart, he never loses track or who is who or messes up a name

the first few weeks when Aang first visits the family is a flurry of making traditional food

Aang & grandma like to compare their different recipies for the same dish so there is double of everything

the whole family is curious about Aang's experiences w the Spirits, so over dinner he tells them about Spirits he's met & the Spirit World

Ty Lee's grandma & Aang also bake together :)

their fruit pies are *chefs kiss* perfect

Aang & Nanna speak in full air nomad dialect w each other

out of the two of them, Aang is the one that talks like an old person

Nanna finds this hilarious

(his language hasnt changed in 100 yrs so he talks like Nanna's mother used to)

Ty Lee learns a lot of traditional air nomad games from Aang and the whole family will play these together

but Aang & Ty Lee also make up their own games w rules that only they can understand

like theres one that is a cross between I Spy + Tag + ....flips and cartwheels are good?

Ty Lee learns how to care for appa, brushing his fur, cleaning his feet, feeding him, and how to steer him

basically Ty Lee becomes best friends w appa

it's when visiting one of the remote island air nomad communities that Ty Lee sees a wild bison heard for the first time

she nearly died from how cute they all are. like the babies! they are small giant fluff balls!

but a thing about air bison is they only connect as companions w air nomads

so when the air nomads of the island offer Ty Lee the chance to find an air bison companion, shes both overjoyed and a little afraid

she is an air nomad. she knows this

but... what if the bison dont?

she didnt grow up in an air nomad community, what if the bison can tell?

her fears are unfounded

she bonds w a lil baby bison that kept licking her face and wouldnt leave her side *sobs* :')

and they're friends for life :)

It was the normal thing on this day. Children coming home to celebrate their fathers and father-figures, giving them due thanks for their hard work and love. But… Bumi was not a normal son.

an aang headcanon ~

- aang learned how to brade/twist string with monk gyatso

- he uses this knowledge to make tons of friendship bracelets, anklets or necklaces for his friends (as seen when he makes katara the necklace)

- he usually uses plant fibers/lost bits of string or rope

- most of the gaang are used to the small braided gifts of friendship except zuko

- the first time aang made him one after he joined them, zuko was surprised. it meant a lot to him though because the gift made him feel like aang was really his friend and he lowkey never takes it off his wrist

- aang also applied this skill to hair and it worked pretty well

- katara LOVES when aang braids her hair bc its so calming, plus it looks really pretty afterwords

- she especially loves when he braids flowers into her hair

i’ve started to notice a thing about the part of the Zutara fandom that explicitly has me disliking the ship and anything associated with it: the most vocal people who ship it also go out of their way to constantly criticize and hate Aang

essentially, its the difference between people who happen to like a certain ship, and those who see Zuko mocking Air Nomad teaching’s to Aang’s face, when his great-grandfather killed all the Air Nomads, and they say Zuko is in the right for saying that to him.

in a whole ‘hell yeah, THIS IS MATURITY AND REAL GROWN UP BEHAVIOR’

i’ve only watched two seasons of legend of korra so please don’t clown me if this ends up being wrong BUT i think the terribleness that is mako/korra is literally the writers being like “this is why zutara wouldn’t have worked” even though the characters aren’t the same the dynamic of the relationship… similar

okay but one issue i see a lot with z/tara analysies of the show is that they often cite Zuko and Katara’s romance as though they have a long and deep relationship of enemies through lovers throughout the entire series. you hear it a lot; people who ship it talk about their dynamic, or claim that their every interaction is full of romantic tension, and the problem with that is that they barely interact. At all.

ATLA has a 61 episode run, and Zuko and Katara only ever directly speak to each other for a handful of episodes, including fight scenes. Most of those, they barely exchange words, and when they do, it’s purely hostile and there’s no attempt from either of them to build a rapport or talk to one another as people. It’s exchanging barbs or making veiled threats; between Katara proclaiming she won’t ever let him hurt Aang and Zuko calling her a peasant, when he bothers to acknowledge her at all.

In season one? that whole ‘i’ll save you from the pirates’ is honestly delivered in a very threatening way, and he is openly baiting her with her mother’s necklace. which is very important to her; he’s not giving it to her as a gift, there’s a strong subtext of ‘do as i say, or you will never see this precious heirloom of your mother’s ever again’.

The contextual point here, though, is that besides them barely interacting, they have no connection. there’s no enemies to lovers vibe ther, because they’re not even really enemies; they don’t care about one another at that point, as foes or as anything more. And again, at this point? Zuko is a proud Fire Nation soldier, who has given little indication that he is willing to stop the Fire Nation’s colonial attacks on the Water Tribe. He’s just the same to Katara as the man who burned her mother alive, or kidnapped the waterbenders of her tribe, and have steadily raided her village until they’ve been reduced to a tiny, desperate village living in perpetual fear.

At this point, Zuko’s an imperialist. Katara is the native girl his empire will enslave or destroy. Neither of them are going to see the other as a romantic option.

now in season 2, KAtara DOES try to help Iroh, but Zuko attacks her in a panic,but this is mostly due to him being in a lot of turmoil; she’s willing to be open, but at this point, he’s too conflicted to do anything but mindlessly lash out at everyone. Their only real bonding moment is in the cave under ba sing se, and that’s them realizing they have more in common than they thought, and it serves as Zuko having a direct face for the horrors the Fire Nation has inflicted. And then he fucks that up by joining with Azula.

(Those whips aren’t making heart shapes because they’re in love, that’s just recoil physics and the two of them trying their best to beat the shit out of the other one to capture the last hope of an empire-free world or keep him free, respectively.)

And finally, in season 3, the two of them don’t really talk even while Zuko is a part of the team; Katara spends most of the time making death threats to him, constantly insulting or mocking him (again, because that’s how she gets hostile), and even when she forgives him, she doesn’t interact that much with him.

If you want z/tara content, you have to establish it in post-canon materials, because they barely talk enough to form a friendship, let alone a romantic relationship, and that’s not even getting into the complexities of a Fire Nation/Water Tribe romance given the extreme colonialism undertones at play.

Azula: crazy but she loves her (says she’s straight but azula is hot)

Zuko: ugly hair loves anyway

Iroh: funny uncle “why’s he’s so big tho?”

Aang: A baby can do no wrong in her eyes except when he yells at toph in the desert

Katara: she’s great. “Is she the one who’s obsessed with her mom?”

Toph: loves her she’s the coolest. Very cute

Sokka: funny but boring cuz he can’t bend.

Ty lee: calls her “Kai lee” a legend. Ships her with anyone. Especially azula.

Mai: a queen

Ozai: hates him

Appa: the best character

She’s a kataang shipper based solely on the library episode where katara shows aang something about his past lives. She said “we get it katara you like aang but you also don’t.” she’s already picking out meta moments.

Zukka Soulmate au? Me? Of course, sit down were going on a trip.

This is a vI sion one. Basically you only see variations of your soulmates eye color until you meet them and then you see every color.

Why this one? Because face is, there's hardly any blue in the firenation, there's the sky, the turtle duck pond and flowers. Then when Zuko travels hes surrounded by blue.

And how many gold items do you think are at the southpole? Hardly if any at all, he'd probably see the color of the fire but that would be about it. Then when Zuko lands at the south pole and they make eye contact all of a sudden he can see every color imaginable. And yes, they both froze in that moment because holy sh!t i can see color besides gold and yellow? Wtf I can see more than blue? Oh wow, you're kinda cute. But im here for the avatar so uh, where be this 112 year old man?

Then and slides in "lookin for me binch?"

Omg wait, let me add Kataang in here too, all he could see 100 years ago was blue, which sure there was alot of, but he still couldn't see the other colors. And all Katara could see was greys. But the moment Aang opens his eyes hes met with Kataras eyes and suddenly they both can see all the colors they never thought they'd see.
