HOW. COOL. IS. THIS?!?! SmarTea cups from @bloomiteas What?!?! So…in the pretty little box you get 10 cups and 10 lids. Are you ready for this? The tea is in the cup! Yep! It’s tucked neatly beneath a plant based fiber filter that is sealed in the cup (without adhesive, of course). Organic tea and botanicals steeped right in the cup. Convenient! I know you’re wondering (I was too) about oversteeping. It didn’t seem to be a problem at all. You add about 1/4 cup of hot water and swirl it around. You can see the tea leaves expand and they get pretty well compacted under the filter. Top it off and you’re ready to go. This selection is was a nice flavor combo. A little grassy and vegetal green tea with just a hint of rose. It was very fresh and I enjoyed the convenience, too. I’m pretty impressed with this innovation! When it comes to teas that recommend a pot and cooking/simmering, I usually break the rules and do it my way...just steep and sip just like I would any other loose tea. HOWEVER...I decided to follow the exact instructions that came with my @oonyall Kalavai tea to make my "chaya". This is a Nilgiri black tea and it is CTC style (crush, tear, curl). I normally steer clear of CTC, but the instructions for brewing had my attention and it sounded like a good cuppa to have on the rainy day we were having. So, I'm addicted. Immediately. This tea is so good! It's bold, creamy, sweet, and absolutely delicious. The black tea is a blend of multiple teas sourced from various tea gardens located in the Nilgiri Mountains. Nilgiri tea has a light and mildly floral flavor. I had fun with the little brewing session that was recommended on the package. Boil the milk and water, add the tea and simmer. The recipe actually calls for cardamom which, I was out of so I added cinnamon. Once this process is done, I strained it in to my cup and sweetened with brown sugar. This tea is so heavenly. It was absolutely what I needed with the cold and dreary weather. There is only one thing I would change about this tea: I would make it decaf so I could drink it all day! Grab a bag of this wonderful tea and have a little fun with a brew sesh. Opening this package of tea was like opening the box of a freshly baked cake that you just picked up from the bakery. A slight hint of almond aroma, a little floral, and a BIG dose of delicious buttercream icing. I am a very serious cake lover so, I'm not exaggerating when I tell you...it really smells like cake icing. @favatea never disappoints with their unique flavors and this Violet Buttercream blend is definitely no exception. The freeze dried yogurt and almonds in this tea give you the creamy taste and aroma that are reminiscent of the thick, sweet, and delicious icing that we all love. I'm not sure that I've ever had anything with a violet flavor, but the floral note in this tea is mild yet pleasing and compliments the other flavors well. The taste is very good on it's own, but a splash of milk and a little sweetener really enhanced the sweet and creamy flavors of this blend. Overall description: it's like drinking cake. I know, I know...it's "instant" tea, but hear me out. I don't know if you are a fan of milk tea, but I sure am. It can get pricey going out multiple time per week to get the creamy tea fix so, I was intrigued when I saw this mix for a milk tea by @drink.ohchaga . I'm also a fan of mushroom tea and all of the benefits that it offers so, how can this tea be a bad thing?!?! It's good! At least I think it is. It's an interesting combination of flavors though. The oolong tea flavor is apparent, but not super strong. The earthiness of the chaga is very noticeable which is a bonus for me because I actually love the flavor of it. I actually steep chaga by itself on occasion; it's amazing for your immune system and it also makes a great substitute for coffee. One packet dissolved in six ounces of warm water and poured over ice in my favorite tumbler...almost like getting milk tea fresh from the local shop! The best overall description I can give you is this: it's a combination of a regular milk tea and an earthy herbal tea. Make sense? Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! That's my review. LOL. If you love chocolate (honestly, who doesn't?), you will definitely love this Chocolate Macaron black tea blend from @favatea Chocolate chips, cocoa bits, cocoa peel, and white chocolate chips; this combination with Ceylon black tea delivers a slightly sweet and creamy brew that needs absolutely nothing added to it (although, it would probably make a delicious latte). Holy Log by @umlicious_me Nothing fancy here…just tea and spice BUT what a perfect balance of flavors. This is a great tea for the holidays. This blend includes allspice berries which I haven’t experienced much in a tea, but it reminds me of a peppery pumpkin pie spice blend. Spicy, but not so much that it takes away from the black tea. Serenity Tea by @natures_cup This tea is so PRETTY....I almost didn't want to brew it! This tea is loaded in big chunks of raspberry and orange and tons of chamomile. A little berry tartness, a little orange and lemon citrus, and there's just a hint of a cool, minty finish which I also love in my bedtime teas. I didn't notice much of the ginger spice and that's ok with me. Let’s talk about the @favatea Reindeer Collection! Special blends for the holidays! I haven’t tried them all yet, but I can tell you that just from the two I’ve tasted, these are magical! Prancer’s Perfect Lemon Custard is a lovely lemony treat! This yummy brew has yogurt granules that melt away while it steeps to create a creamy lemon flavor that is reminiscent of lemon cream pie or lemon sugar cookies. So delicious! It’s a great daytime tea for me, but if caffeine doesn’t bother you in the evening, this would make a perfect dessert tea. Cupid’s Chocolate Rum Cake! It’s chocolaty deliciousness. Period. Well, I tried this Enduring Wellness tea by @mind_body_and_tea_ several nights in a row. I think it just might help me sleep better! Due to my husbands schedule, I usually sleep alone. I can tell what kind of night's sleep I had each morning by the looks of my bed. Thanks to menopause, most mornings it looks like 14 kindergartners had a gymnastics lesson on my bed while I slept. So, what I've noticed after about a week of having this tea blend at night is this: when I wake up, my bed looks just like it did when I climbed into it....like I didn't move all night. I think that means I've been sleeping better! I can't prove that it's from drinking this tea, but it sure is coincidental! I do know that this blend relaxes me and I fall asleep easier and since I seemed to be rolled up in the same spot when I wake up in the morning, I'm guessing I haven't thrown the covers off during a bout of night sweats! I'll give the credit to the black cohosh in this blend for that! Oh, and it has a wonderful flavor, too. Herbal and earthy with a little bit of peach flavoring. I needed something without caffeine for a mid-morning brew since my 2 cups of coffee hadn't quite worn off yet. Herbal tea to the rescue! This is a nice blend by @leafylove . Not super complex, but a good balance of flavors. Tart hibuscus and rosehip, citrus twist from lemon and orange peel, with just a hint of rose for a mild floral note. I LOVE citrus peel and tend to steep them a little longer because I enjoy the bitterness so much. This sounds like a summer blend and is probably wonderful over ice, but I had mine hot with a little honey. . . I needed a little caffeine to get me past the afternoon slump so, I grabbed this oolong blend by @fridaytea . This blend, "Cancer" is part of their Zodiac collection. The base of this blend is one of my absolute favorite teas: milky oolong. Combined with marigold flowers and huge apple chunks, the flavor kind of reminds me of green apple Jolly Ranchers (on a much milder level, of course) with a bit of a creamy finish. If you're familiar with milky oolong, you know what I'm talking about: that natural creaminess and silky mouthfeel...mmmm. What I love about this blend is that the added ingredients are just enough to add a hint of flavor and aroma without taking away from the beauty of the milky oolong. I normally drink my milky oolong plain; no added flavors or sweeteners, but I gotta tell ya, a tiny bit of honey gave this just the right amount of sweetness to enhance the oolong AND the apple notes. This tea can also be steeped multiple times so, guess who's taking a second serving on the ride home today?!?! More to come from this brand soon. . . The Texas weather is starting to cool down (a little) and fall is in the air. This is the time of year when I like to get into my fall themed teas. Spicy teas and holiday dessert teas are some of my favorites! Cinnamon Apple with Chamomile by @serenityheritage_ht is a great way to get into your favorite fall flavors. It's a very mild blend and perfect for an evening or bedtime brew since it's caffeine free. The flavor and aroma are reminiscent of a warm apple pie and the chamomile is so relaxing. I steeped mine for about 7 minutes and enjoyed with a little honey for sweetness. I used two tea bags in about 12 ounces of water. Less water or an extra tea bag would have given this blend a little more strength. . . @himalkobybaballc @sandakphutearoom This tea is amazing. I chose this tea for my afternoon pick-me-up...I just wanted plain black tea today! Himalayan Hand Rolled is one of the most popular tea types in Nepal. The drying and oxidation process produces a medium bodied tea with a nutty and honey flavor with just a hint of caramel. I steeped 1.5 tablespoons for about 4 minutes in 8 oz of water. It was delicious, but I think I'll steep 5-6 minutes for a little more strength.
