HOW. COOL. IS. THIS?!?! SmarTea cups from @bloomiteas What?!?! So…in the pretty little box you get 10 cups and 10 lids. Are you ready for this? The tea is in the cup! Yep! It’s tucked neatly beneath a plant based fiber filter that is sealed in the cup (without adhesive, of course). Organic tea and botanicals steeped right in the cup. Convenient! I know you’re wondering (I was too) about oversteeping. It didn’t seem to be a problem at all. You add about 1/4 cup of hot water and swirl it around. You can see the tea leaves expand and they get pretty well compacted under the filter. Top it off and you’re ready to go. This selection is was a nice flavor combo. A little grassy and vegetal green tea with just a hint of rose. It was very fresh and I enjoyed the convenience, too. I’m pretty impressed with this innovation! Check out this Green Rose Matcha and more! #tea #teareview #teablog #teablogger #teabloggersofinstagram #teasofinstagram #teadrinkersofinstagram #teaambassador #teaenthusiast #teainfluencer #tealovers #teaqueen #teageek #teanerd #teafriends #teacommunity #teaconnection #teabrewing #teatime #teapeople #teavibesonly #teavibe #teajunkie #teacollector #teahoarder https://www.instagram.com/p/CoLmtehu8Oc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“I still remember the day they came back from the ambush. How worried we were - scratch that, how terrified we were that they wouldn’t come back. We’re all lucky they did.
We just wish we knew exactly what happened from that moment. Unfortunately for us... they couldn’t bring themself to speak much for a while afterwards.”

I need to stop dong these at like 10/11pm I stg
Anyways HEE HOO MORE ANGST BECAUSE GUESS WHO CANNOT GET ENOUGH :]
Wounded sweetie I’m sorry but. You are an official blorbo of mine. Therefore I must consistently put you through The Horrors™. Yeah it’s in the job description.
One of my more rushed pieces, I will admit, but I did this mainly to get the scene out of my head and onto something - and tbh I still like it enough to post it so hee hoo. Tumblr please if you’re not going to show some of my stuff in the tags again I’m gonna go apeshit /hj
(For context: This is set shortly if not right after the events shown in Wounded Warrior’s memory in-game :] Because this is meant to take place when all are still alive, behold - humanisation of sorts)

what is your exact fussy teabrewing way?
- loose leaf tea from somewhere where the harvest date is mentioned
- 227g (8oz) filtered water to 2g of tea (a teaspoon is wildly different amounts of tea depending on how fine the tea is! I do not use them)
- water boiled to temperature depending on the type of tea (212 F / 100 C for ‘plain’ black and herbal; 207 F for Darjeeling, Earl Grey, oolong and other types of black tea; 175 for jasmine and other green teas, or white tea)
- brewed in a metal sieve (not paper—absorbs too many oils) for an amount of time depending on the type of tea (2 min for black; 3 for specific blacks; 5 for green; 10-15 for white)
This is all a starting point, and then I adjust the time and temperature slightly as I work through a particular tin of tea and figure out the best way to brew it.
The timing is especially important. There’s nothing more heartbreaking than ordering jasmine somewhere, and smelling that it should be a really gorgeous, aromatic, complex tea, but they’ve just kind of left the tea in the whatever for however long so now you don’t get much other than bitterness. Sigh

I love rich black teas and Yunnan Sourcing has provided another great one. This brew is filled with smoky rich malt tones allowing it to pair with red meats.
The temp dropped a bit this week in Michigan, so my timing was perfect to review this rich brew from Yunnan Sourcing. Their Premium AA Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong is an incredible pine smoked black tea with amazing depth.
My initial thought was that this tea was one dimensional, but I was wrong. This tea has great acidity, body, and integrated smooth mouthfeel with rich flavors of smoked toasted malt, tobacco, and grilled/smoked meats.
Pairing this will be fun. I happened to just smoke some Canadian bacon and it was a perfect pairing. This tea will work with game meats like duck and ostrich but pair well with a steak or pork burnt ends.
Just know that this is a great value. It's like a meal in the glass. Head over to ArtofthePair.com to check out this review to consider purchasing this blend. It's truly worth it for the price.

Brewing Tea The Right Way???
Tumblr media
Almost daily I get asked, “How do I make loose leaf tea? Or What’s the best way to brew loose leaf?”
In my shoppe where we only offer western based teawares, answering this question is very simple. But when talking to people who have heard of gongfu or other brewing methods, and ask “what’s the best way?”, it becomes a little more difficult. As a major fan and practitioner of gongfu cha, I’m inclined to say that gongfu is the best. But is it? Well, the answer is yes... and no. I think the question can be answered based off two trains of thought. The first based off the tea itself and the other based off of the individual. More can be said about the tea itself then the individual, as this is much more subjective.
Tumblr media
A person can take a good quality tea and brew it in the most obscene way a connoisseur could think possible, and believe they are doing it the right way. For example, taking an expensive, spring green tea and dropping a few tablespoons of it in a pot of full boiling water for 10 minutes until it’s piss yellow, bitter and thick like syrup. To someone like me, this would be a completely wrong way to brew green tea, but to the individual, this is how they like it and therefore for them, it is “right”. Now whether or not there is someone out there who actually brews green tea like this, I’m not sure, but as much as I hope not, I’m sure there is!
Another person may take the same green tea, and brew it with a certain temperature water, with a weighed-out amount of leaf, for a strictly timed infusion, in a certain vessel. To someone like me, this would been seen as correct and to the individual would be seen as “right” as well, both because that’s how they like it and also because they may have taken something extra into consideration. That being the tea itself. Taking the tea itself into consideration will give a wealth of insight into how to brew a tea “right”. And this is where the much more technical side of modern day gongfu can come into play.
Tumblr media
A major part of gongfu in modern day, is the strict control of several variables, such as water temperature based on tea type. Ratio of leaf to water. Vessel size and material. And of course, infusion times based around number of infusions of a particular tea. And these variables, put together can create the best cup of tea, because the variable were based on the type of tea. However, does this mean gongfu works best for all teas? NO! For example, Japanese green teas such as Sencha and Gyokuro respond to and brew best when using a kyusu teapot. Why? Because these pots were made and designed specifically for brewing Japanese green teas, based on their specific characteristics. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that your Gyokuro didn’t hold up well being brewed with a gongfu tea set.
Tumblr media
Another great example would be black teas. While many Chinese black teas (hong cha) perform well using gongfu brewing, black teas from Sri Lanka, Kenya, and India, may not perform so well. The reason for this again, is based on the characteristics of the tea itself, and therefore should be brewed accordingly. Turkish tea is a great example of this. Turkish grown tea is processed to be made into a concentrate using a Turkish samovar or double teapot. This method is the traditional way of brewing tea in this part of the world and the tea leaves produced are meant for it. So, why should you expect Turkish tea to taste just as good because you brewed it with a gongfu tea set? You shouldn’t!
Tumblr media
But ultimately, I think what it comes down to is that there are two trains of thought, based of two types of tea drinkers. The person who “likes and drinks” tea, and the connoisseur. The person who likes tea will brew teas in the simplest method without very much thought beyond whether or not they like it. The connoisseur will brew their teas based not only on how they like it, but also based on the study of the tea itself. One side sees tea as a drink. A hot beverage made by throwing some leaves in hot water and calling it a day. The other sees tea as a way of life. A special plant that requires extra consideration and passion.  And who, quite often, will look at the everyday tea drinker and tell them they're doing it wrong. An opinion which is still subjective, just based off a little extra or a lot of extra thought.
But as a connoisseur, firmly believing, like anyone else, that my methods are “right”, should I be turning my nose up to people of the other mind? Should I be outright telling them they’re wrong? Or should I be taking all that time studying and tasting and put it towards educating them in a positive and progressive manner? Yes! Because there’s always room for improvement, and there’s always something new to learn, which is why for a connoisseur especially, tea journeys never end. And if you teach somebody, something new, who knows they may come back to tell you how much more they like their tea now and vice versa!
