The silence of the Wangshu inn is deafening.
How strange, usually you can hear the voices of others outside your windows regardless of what time of day it is, but today? Why is the world so silent?
Or are you the one shutting the world away?
Tomo stumbled backwards the moment you unfroze time. When he lifted his chin to meet your gaze, you noticed he only had pure rage in his expression.
“You met Kazuha? Why… Why didn’t you tell me!? What did he say?!”
How should you respond? It’s true you were trying to keep them away from each other for your own convenience. You just wanted to make sure that your toy wouldn’t break without your permission.
With unstable footing, Tomo ran closer to you to grab you by your shoulders.
“I told you, didn't I?! I said I was looking for my best friend! You knew about it and yet…! And what did they mean when you said you bullied him…?!”
You continued to look up at Tomo with a blank expression. What is this feeling? It’s not guilt, but it’s not annoyance, either… No, this is probably…
You lifted your hands and tilted your body forward, covering your face with your fingers as your shoulders started to tremble. You immediately noticed Tomo pulling his hands away from you, and through your darkened vision, you could imagine his panicked expression.
“I….” You gasped for air, “I’m sorry.” Letting out a small sob between the words, that was all the words that managed to escape your exasperated lungs.
“G-Gravity…?” Tomo placed his hand on your shoulders again, this time gently.
“I… thought you would leave me… If you met him… So I got defensive… and acted rudely towards Kazuha… And couldn’t even tell you…”
You desperately wiped away the tears that fell down your face. Now that you weren’t covering your eyes, you were able to see Tomo. He looked shocked, horrified even, as he clasped his hand on your cheek to wipe away your tears.
“Oh no, no… Gravity, I’m sorry. Please don’t cry. I didn’t mean to…”
“I-I-I’m sorry…” You placed your hand on top of his, “B-But… Don’t leave me… I’m scared… I can’t survive without you…”
Despite your strength, you’re still an outsider to this world. The common sense you learned and lived with in your previous world won’t help you here. Without Tomo, your mistakes could accumulate, until it goes out of hand.
Your entire life, you needed someone to hold down your leash. You couldn’t imagine living without one.
Tomo pulled you into an embrace. He held your head against his shoulder and squeezed you tightly against his body, “I’m sorry… I’m sorry… I won’t leave.”
You sniffled, “Really?”
“Really.”
“You promise?”
“I promise.” Tomo stroked your hair and continued, “But, I need to talk to Kazuha. I still have things I need to tell him.”
You fell silent for a moment before nodding, “I understand… But please don’t leave me for him…”
“I won’t.” Tomo let go of you but continued to hold your hand, then smiled softly, “Let me go get you some tea to calm down.”
When he tried to leave, you refused to let go of his hand for a little moment before giving up and allowing his fingers to slip away from yours. He gave you a final smile before leaving the room and closing the door behind him. Few seconds later, you flopped on the bed and let out a deep sigh.
From what he said the other day, I could have sworn he knew about my true nature, but to think it would be this easy to deceive him.
The thought made it feel like a needle through your heart, you clicked your tongue and rolled onto your side.
How long has it been since I used fake tears like that?
First came annoyance, but that emotion slowly morphed into something else. Something inside of you kept on tangling, tangling, tangling… Folding in on itself and collapsing into one like the singularity of a blackhole, and a dried up chuckle escaped your lips.
Chuckling… To giggling… To laughing.
To think he’d fall for a theatrical trick like that…!
Nothing was funny to you. Everything hurt like Hell. But you couldn’t help but laugh.
You needed Tomo. You needed to keep him next to you. When you first met him, you swear it was out of necessity. A form of survival instinct. And now? What the heck is going on with your head? You want to keep him because you like his company? Because you care about him?
Don’t make me fucking laugh Gravity! You sneered at yourself, That’s way too funny! You’ve lied so much in your life and that one is the worst lie you’ve told yourself!
You laughed, and laughed, and laughed…? How strange. Then why did it sound like you’re sobbing?
To think I’ll have to act like that ever again.
You were used to deceiving people.
You were used to pretending.
You were used to acting like a ‘normal human being.’
And for a little while after you met Strong, Weak, and EM, you felt as if all these irregularities about you were forgiven. Finally, you were a normal human.
But it’s times like this where you realize that those dreams were just a lie you told yourself to keep you sane.
You couldn’t help but cry. Or maybe you were laughing. You couldn’t tell anymore.
*****
“Yoyoyoyoooo!!”
After dragging me across the entire university, that boy brought me to a small room on top of the physics tower. Before going inside, I traced the words on the plaque on the door with my gaze.
Physics Tea Time
I was yanked into the other side of the door by my lab partner, and so I looked inside. There was another boy by the window staring at the equations written on the chalkboard, and a girl on the other side of the room pouring hot water into a teapot.
“Can’t you at least enter the room quietly, Ve–” The boy by the chalkboard pulled his sight away from the equations to face us. Our eyes met. “Who in the–”
“This is Harper!!” My lab partner exclaimed, “Can we keep her? Please?!”
“You talk about club members like they’re cats.” The other boy snapped. My lab partner pouted at him and the two started to have an argument.
“They have a tendency to get into fights a lot.” The girl holding a teapot approached me. “Don’t worry though, they’re actually pretty close.”
We watched the two fight for a little while, and in the end they decided to have a ‘physics duel’ where they would give each other physics problems to see who could solve them quicker. Around the time they started their battle, the girl asked me, “Harper, right? I believe we’re in calculus together.”
I jolted. I do remember her, but I don’t really remember her name. After fidgeting with my fingers a bit out of nervousness, it seemed that she understood my situation and poured me a cup of tea.
“I’m terribly sorry.” She smiled, “Our club leader tends to run like a bulldozer. But trust me when I say that he’s the most wonderful person you could ever meet.”
The girl sat down and went back to watching the two and their duel. I decided to sit next to her in front of the teacup she placed on the table for me. Picking up the teacup and blowing on it to cool it down, I placed it on my lips and took a sip from the amber colored liquid.
“! It’s good.”
The aroma of bergamot and orange filled up my mouth and I let out an air of relief. How long has it been since I relaxed like this?
“I’m glad.” The girl whispered, and then she chuckled as she went back to watching the other two.
“Aaaaggggghhhhhhhuuuu!! I lost again!!!”
“How many times are we gonna do this before you realize you can’t win?”
“If you think I’m gonna give up, then you’re wrong! Someday, I will beat you!!”
“Sure you will.”
It seems the two finished their duel, and my lab partner was the one who lost. While mumbling under his breath about how he’ll win next time, he started digging through the cabinet on the corner of the room and pulled out a rolled up piece of paper.
“Anyways, now that Harper is here, I think we should have an official club activity!!”
The girl started to pour two more cups of tea as my lab partner and the other boy started to make their way towards the table.
“Club activities?” I asked them. To tell the truth, I wanted to ask them more about why I’m participating in an activity when I’m not even a member, but because that’s all that came out, my lab partner probably thought I was asking what the activity was.
With a confident grin, he spread the paper onto the table. This was the first time in my life I saw a blueprint.
“We’re gonna build a robot dinosaur!!”
******
Xiao looked so embarrassed while we walked around Liyue with our Rex Lapis plushie. But considering that he hasn’t let go of it, I doubt he minds it whatsoever.
“It’s getting late, huh?” The sky was already in multiple shades of orange. “I bet Gravity and Tomo are waiting for me in the inn by now!”
Xiao looked at me, “Gravity?”
“Mhm! She’s my friend!!” I grinned.
Gravity. The first time I met her with her little teapot in the club room, I never expected her to be so strange and different. But I personally think it’s her uniqueness that makes her so endearing.
“Her name… Is it a nickname like yours?”
“Oh, yeah. There’s also Strong and Weak… Oh, but they’re in Inazuma right now! If you see a girl with a black dress and a bunch of stars, it’s probably gravity! I made that dress with Strong you know?!”
Xiao started to trail off, it looked like he was in his serious mode. Whoa, scary.
Weak had similar expressions from time to time, and when he did, it meant that he was thinking hard about something important, and that I shouldn’t bother him. So like I do with Weak, I decided to not say a single word while I walked alongside Xiao.
It’s almost dinner time. Oh, that also means it’s almost time for my medication.
I pulled the orange pillbox out of my pocket and shook it inside my hand. I’m running out, but how am I supposed to get pills in a fantasy world?
Xiao snapped away from his thoughts to look at me, “What is that?”
“Huh? It’s my medication.” I used to hate telling people about my pills, but lately, I’ve learned to accept my condition a bit more. Thanks to that, I feel much happier about myself than ever.
“Medication?” Xiao instantly looked worried, it’s kind of funny when he’s so worried, “What happens if you don’t take it?”
If I don’t take it? I’ll start having withdrawal symptoms so…
“Well, I’d probably have headaches and throw up…”
“....!”
“I think dizziness and tiredness are also a symptom… Not to mention I might start having an anxiety attack and depression again.”
“What…?”
Speaking of which, how many pills do I have left? I know it’s not a lot…
I opened my pill box to check, “Ah shoot! I barely have any!!”
“?!?!?”
Maybe I should ask Strong to replicate it? I’ll talk to Gravity tonight when I go back to the inn to see if we can go back to the HQ for a bit. I’m sure she’ll be fine with it, especially if I explained my situation.
…So why do I feel like I’m in the air? Oh, Xiao picked me up.
…Huh?!
“X-X-X-Xiao?! Ah! Gah! Guah!! Why are we in the air?!?”
We’re 20 ft in the air! Maybe more! I quickly clung onto Xiao in panic.
“Hold on.” Xiao snapped at me and continued to jump from building to building. I’m starting to think that Xiao isn’t normal!! There were a lot of red flags before, but now I have my confirmation!!
“Okay! Okay! I’ll hold on!! Where are we going?!”
Xiao didn’t answer. Oh, I’m being kidnapped, great!
When we finally arrived… Somewhere? Some sort of shop on top of a bunch of stairs, he held me up and showed me to a green haired man who was running the shop.
“Make her medication.”
The green haired man just smiled nervously in confusion, so I smiled back at him.
“Xiao– Adeptus Xiao?” Xiao turned towards the mysterious voice, swinging me around in his arm in the process. Gah?! Xiao! How are you so strong when you’re so short?!
“Rex–! …Mister Zhongli.”
Rex?? Zhongli?? I looked up at the man in question, his golden eyes were staring at the both of us.
Hm….
This….
I think…
….Nah, I don’t think I ship them.

Thankfully, I never had trouble making friends.
Though, I never really considered them real friends. People you hang out with at school, sometimes outside of it, but never someone I could talk with heart to heart.
People I became friends with, they always talked about how lucky I was to have a father who was the beloved town doctor. When I was young, I learned that my father was only strict with me, and was friendly with people who weren’t his family. I really didn’t know how to feel about it, but I just kept smiling like I always do whenever my friends sang praises about my father. I wasn’t sad about it, but I remember not being particularly happy about it either.
So the friends I made in my first semester of college were no different. People who I never allowed myself to open up to, people who kept telling me how lucky I was to be a daughter of a doctor, how lucky I was to be born into a rich family, how lucky I was to have photographic memory. Life must be easy for me, right?
Life should be easy for me. I shouldn’t be having any problems. I’m the most fortunate person I know of.
But I still felt empty inside.
The only problem I knew of in my university was my physics lab partner. He was a social butterfly like me, but there was something different about how he looked at me compared to everyone else.
Whenever he looked at me, it felt as if he saw through my soul, like he was observing every inch of me, my every movement, every aspect of my life… And sometimes, after it looked like he finished observing me, he would give me a sad smile, before going back to talking to another classmate with that bouncy voice of his.
In all romance novels, this is the beginning of a beautiful love story. A girl meets a mysterious boy from their class who looks at them in a particular way. A lot of times, it's because the boy has some sort of temptation towards the girl, like being a vampire or something.  But somehow, I couldn’t help but notice that’s not how it was. He seemed nervous, almost like he was worried about me.
It wasn’t until a few weeks after the semester started that I finally learned why he always looked at me like that.
One day, the two of us got left behind alone in the lab room. Everyone else finished the lab, and the TA told us they had to leave the room for a little bit to get some supplies for the next lab. As soon as the TA left, the boy looked at me.
“Doesn’t it get tiring to act like that all the time?”
I dropped my pencil that I was holding out of shock. Acting? Like what? What does he mean?
“What are you talking about?” I gave him a bright smile that I always do.
“I mean, you know? Smiling when you don’t really want to?”
I do that a lot, but how does he know? No one ever noticed before him, I made it so that no one could notice. I acted perfectly up until now, did I slip somehow?
“Hm~? That’s not true! I’m really happy with my life, you know?” I tried to say it as normally as I could, but to be honest, I was so scared that he’d notice my lies that I didn’t know if I was able to act naturally.
He stared at me for a few moments before asking in a low voice, “....Are you really?”
I really am. I promise! I’m so happy!
I need to say that. I need to… I need to act like how I usually do so that I don’t trouble him. If he finds out I’m unhappy with my life, he’ll think I’m a spoiled brat for wanting more when I’m already so fortunate. So then, why? Why can’t I say it?
My throat hurts. It feels so tight. I can’t breathe. My eyes feel as if they’re being squeezed out of my socket, and I felt something fall onto my lap. Are these tears? If I keep up my smile, would he still believe me if I said I was fine? But my lips are shivering.
“I really… am…”
My voice sounds so weak, and now that I’ve spoken, my throat feels even tighter. Looking at him with my blurred vision, I can tell that he’s panicking. I’ve troubled him. How could I?
“Agh! I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to make you cry!”
No that’s not it.
“It’s just, you reminded me of someone, so I couldn’t help but notice…”
You don’t need to apologize.
“Er… Please forget what I said.”
Yeah, forget it. I’m fine. I’m happy. I’m supposed to be happy. I need to tell him. I need to tell him that I’m the most fortunate, happiest person alive.
“I’m… not happy…”
But my voice didn’t listen.
“Huh?”
“I’m not happy… I feel so empty inside. I have everything I could ask for, but I still manage to mess everything up. And now I’m troubling you. I’m sorry.”
I’m sorry I’m not happy.
I’m sorry you noticed.
I’m sorry I’m spoiled.
I’m sorry I can’t succeed even with all the blessings I was given.
I’m sorry I can’t use my talent to the fullest.
I’m sorry I don’t want to be a doctor.
I’m sorry I was born.
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorryimsorry
I felt a tug.
He was pulling me by my hand. It didn’t feel forceful though. It was like he was guiding me. When he noticed I was looking up at him, he grinned at me and kept walking without saying anything. I didn’t understand, but after a few minutes, I managed to let out a shriveled up voice.
“Where are we going…?”
He gave a comforting laugh, “To the club room!”
*******
“Xiao!! Look! Look! They’re selling food! Do you think they’ll have sweet things?”
“I have no interest in mortal food.”
“Says the guy who likes almond tofu.”
“It’s the only thing I can stomach.”
“You sound like an old man.”
“Ulg.”
It seems my mission of becoming friends with Xiao isn’t going as I hoped it would. My hopes and dreams were that we could get excited about the things in Liyue together, and he’d show me around places that he likes! But it almost seems as if he doesn’t really like anything… Oh, I’m doing my job to try and find an adepti too! This is an important part of research: friendship with the locals! Xiao is a local, at least he dresses as one.
“Xiao, do you not like Liyue?” At this point, asking him directly is the best option.
He gave me a strange look as a response, “It is something I am to protect.”
“Are you a soldier or something?”
“Hmph, I suppose that’s similar.”
Xiao is kinda weird, but I like that about him. Though, it’s concerning that he doesn’t like the city he lives in. Oh, maybe if I get him into something I like, we could have a mutual hobby, and our friendship will flourish more than it already is! …More than it already is? Or, at least a bit more than whatever we have right now.
But what should I get him into? I have a feeling he’s not the type to read romance novels. Unless he has someone he likes…?! …Nah, even then I don’t think he’ll like it. Physics? Hmmm…. I get the feeling he wouldn’t like that either. Same thing with engineering. But then, that leaves…
I looked around the area to see if I could somehow connect it to the topic I wanna talk about. It’s a bit of a niche topic, but there has to be something…!
And I found it.
“Xiao! This way!!” I took his hand and started dragging him towards a store nearby. He seemed really surprised, but I kept going despite his protest.
“Wh-What are you..?!”
“Xiao! Look! Look!”
I held up a brown dragon plushie from the table and brought it near his face, “It’s a dinosaur!!”
Xiao stared at the plushie for a bit before pointing out to me, “....That is Morax.”
“Morax?” I blinked, “It’s not a dinosaur?”
“Morax.” Xiao snapped, “The geo archon and the one who found Liyue. Do not speak ill of his name–”
“Whoa~! Liyue was founded by a dinosaur? I think I love Liyue even more now!” I gave the plushie a hug. I didn’t think I could add to my dinosaur plushie collection today, but here we are.
“Are you listening–”
“Excuse me~! How much is this plushie?”
“Hah, whatever. Anyway, that is a figure of the great geo archon Morax who founded Liyue, I will not allow you to speak ill of his name.”
“Does that mean you’ll get one too?” When I asked him that, he froze at me with a really funny expression. I grinned mischievously at him before picking up another plushie and paying the store owner for both plushies. I held one out to Xiao, “Here you go!”
“I-I don’t need such a thing–”
“But you like Morax right? I can tell from how you talk about him. Plus, I already paid for it.”
It seems that was enough to convince him, because he took the plushie and held it in his arms without looking at me in the eyes.
*******
You really didn’t know what Tomo was worried about. Seriously, what was the point of that conversation you had with him a few minutes ago.
“Then what?! Then what happened!?”
“Uhm… Well, I got Toma away from Raiden, and Ayaka told me that I could try asking the rebellion for help.”
You silently looked at Tomo sitting next to you, eyes sparkling with excitement and breathing heavily. He reminds you of a child meeting his favorite superhero at a theme park. You glanced over at Xingqiu, who ended up reading a book next to Aether while eating his meal. He noticed you staring at him, and gave you a nervous smile.
Though, Tomo’s reaction isn’t the thing that’s making me uncomfortable.
“Uhm, what was the rebellion like?”
“...”
“Were they strong!? I’ve known about them, but I never got to meet those on the rebel side!”
“Well, they were strong, but I realized quickly that they wouldn’t be able to go against Raiden.”
You’ve noticed rather quickly that Aether was ignoring you. Tomo didn’t seem to notice because he was too excited to pay attention, but Paimon and Xingqiu definitely did. Every time he ignored you, they gave you a panicked yet apologetic look, trying to convey that he wasn’t usually like this.
But whether he was always like this or not didn’t bother you. What bothered you was the fact that you tried to be friendly with him from the moment he walked into this restaurant, and yet he still had the audacity to be rude to you. And because of that, you were becoming wary of this traveler, a man with large power and stellar reputation, might turn against you when the time comes.
You cleared your throat to get everyone’s attention before glaring at Aether, who happened to glare back at you.
“Excuse me, but may I ask if I have offended you somehow? I couldn’t help but notice you ignoring me.”
Tomo snapped out of his excitement to look at you quizzically, and you sighed in disbelief to realize that he really didn’t notice what was going on.
“Paimon was wondering that too!” The little fairy exclaimed, “It’s rude to ignore people! Is something wrong?”
Aether sighed loudly before looking at you again, “I wanted to get all the other conversation out of the way before I brought it up, but you said your name was Gravity?”
You did introduce yourself to him when you met, but what did that have anything to do with it?
You couldn’t even imagine, until one possibility sprouted inside your mind, and you felt like your blood was sucked out of your body.
“Does the name Kaedehara Kazuha sound familiar?”
….Fucking Hell.
You didn’t know what to do. Was it pride? Stupidity? Why didn’t the possibility that Aether knew Kazuha ever cross your mind? You just kept staring at Aether in horror while your brain tried to think of a way out of this situation, but alas, nothing came up. You drew a blank.
Of course, the one who immediately responded was Tomo, “Kazuha? You know Kazuha? Both of you…?”
You snapped your head toward Tomo to try and explain yourself, but before you could, Paimon shrieked with a voice too high pitched for your liking, “Wait a minute! Paimon remembers now! The girl who bullied Kazuha was also named Gravity!”
Xingqiu looked at all of you in confusion. It seems this conversation was more entertaining than the book he was reading. Tomo looked back and forth between you and Aether before mumbling, his voice sounded like he was shivering to you.
“What’s going on…?”
“Tomo! Kazuha’s been looking for you–”
“Shut up!” You screamed at the top of your lungs, and closed your eyes shut to reject the reality in front of you.
You imagined Tomo standing next to Kazuha, he looked so happy next to his best friend. The thought that Tomo would leave you to be by his friend’s side… It made you want to throw up.
Tomo’s mine. Whether it be his death or life or who he stands next to, I will decide all of it.
You couldn’t help but notice how the world went quiet. You opened your eyes to realize that time had stopped around you. Above your head was a blackhole.
I must have stopped time around me without realizing.
It’s unlike you to act so emotionally. Or is it? You don’t even know anymore. You gave up on trying to dissect your logic years ago.
You grabbed a UAC out of your bag and started to teleport you and Tomo out of the restaurant.
How am I supposed to explain everything to Tomo? …Or, should I be more worried about the fact that I made an enemy with possibly the strongest person in Teyvat?
You sighed loudly as your body warped to the Wangshu Inn.

I just couldn’t put down those letters.
Biology, psychology, biomedicine… I wondered if these disciplines would turn me into my father, and the thought made my spine shiver. I knew that there’s nothing wrong with these fields of study, but familiarity can sometimes be a frightening thing. I sat in front of the screen for hours on end, staring at the university’s major selection webpage. But no matter how much I tried, no matter how much I tried to give up my own free will, my brain refused all majors that could help me get into med school.
But, if my father found out I went into a major that had nothing to do with medicine, he would definitely reverse that decision and force me down the path he sees fit.
That’s why, I decided to go into university undeclared. I convinced my father that I wanted to be careful when choosing a major, that I wanted to find out more about each field so that I can increase my chances of getting into med school. Somehow, he believed me. Or, maybe not fully. I think he assumed I’ll listen to what he tells me eventually, just like I always have.
But the next large challenge was class selection. All first years were required to take a hard science class with a lab. Even then, I couldn’t force myself to choose biology. Scrolling through the list of classes, I kept searching for something… Anything that I would be happy to take. Something not quite medicine related, but close enough as to convince my father…
And then, I finally found it: Introductory physics.
I’ve never taken a physics class before, but fields like biophysics do exist. And yet, in my mind at least, physics was far away enough from medicine that it didn’t trigger my prejudice.
And so, I submitted my class request.
And that was how my life turned upside down.
*****
“Xiao~!! Xiao~!!!”
I ran around Liyue harbor for a couple of hours, but in the end I couldn’t find Xiao. Maybe I should have just asked him if he lives at the Wangshu inn or something. If that was the case, I’d feel like a stupid idiot for wasting so much time looking for someone who isn’t even here.
But I haven’t given up yet, and that’s why, I’m screaming my head off in the middle of this city! People are staring at me funny, but you know what? Who cares?!
“Xiao~~!?!?!?!?! Xiaoxiaoxiaoxiaoxiao!!!!”
It seems that god or archons or the flying spaghetti monster haven’t given up on me yet! Because that was when I heard the familiar voice.
“You’re being too loud.”
I turned around to see Xiao standing behind me, crossing his arms with an annoyed look on his face.
“Xiao! There you are! I’ve been looking all morning for you!”
I tried to grab his hand but he pulled away before I could. I thought about pouting just to annoy him, but I figured that might be too mean.
“Yes, I know you’ve been calling for me for a while now.”
“Huh?! You did? And you didn’t come? Xiao, that’s no way to treat a friend.”
“We’re not friends.”
“Well, I consider you a friend, so we’re friends now.”
It seems that Xiao is a bit of a tsundere just like Weak. Even after denying our friendship, I can see that he’s not fully rejecting me. Gotta make sure I don’t push him too much so that I can keep his friendship!! Or gain it I guess? Whatever.
“...So why exactly were you calling for me?”
“Oh, right! Xiao! Would you mind walking around the harbor with me?!”
The way he widened his eyes at that request was kind of hilarious. I wonder if he doesn’t have any friends besides me. Or, could it be that he hates the idea of walking around with me that much?
“...Why?”
“I’m not used to this place, so it’d be really nice if there was someone who’s familiar with Liyue to chaperone me so that I don’t do anything stupid!”
Xiao’s eyes twitched, but from his expression, I could tell that he was more inclined to follow me around now. Oh… Ooooh! I see! He’s worried about me isn’t he? Or, could it be that he’s just worried I’ll do something to the people of this harbor? Really, all I can do is make electric and magnetic fields so strong that it kills people!
…Oh god, I could kill people…
“Fine.” Xiao gave me a deep sigh and I couldn’t help but to pump my fist in excitement.
“Yaaaay! Xiao, you’re the best! And don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten our promise of the ultimate almond tofu!!”
“....Ultimate almond tofu.”
I decided not to comment on the childish excitement that momentarily peeked through his eyes.
*******
You shuffled in your seat nervously as you glanced over towards Tomo sitting next to you. After agreeing to meet the ‘traveler,’ Xingqiu invited you two to a fancy restaurant saying that he’ll arrive with the man very shortly.
Usually, Tomo notices when you’re feeling uncomfortable. Slight shuffling, change of breathing, wandering eyes… Tomo tends to catch everything no matter how much you try to be subtle about it. But right now? Tomo isn’t even looking at you, his eyes are directed down at the table. His usual cheerfulness and unwavering strength couldn’t be seen, instead, it seemed that he was filled with hope and worry, with a little bit of fear mixed in there as well.
You couldn’t stand the deafening silence, “T-Tomo?”
You couldn’t get his attention the first time, so you started shaking his arm while calling his name again. After being shaken a couple of times, he finally moved his gaze towards you.
“What?” You jolted. You knew that the coldness of his voice was the result of his nervousness, but nonetheless, it was the first time Tomo snapped at you. And Tomo himself seemed to have realized this too, with a surprised expression, he faced his body towards you. “Oh, no. S-Sorry, I guess I’m kind of on the edge right now, did I scare you?”
“N-No…” You looked away. To think there would come a day where you couldn’t commit to a lie this much. Glancing back at Tomo again, you noticed his surprised expression changed to that of guilt and regret.
“I’m really sorry.” He placed his hand on your head, as if to comfort a child.
You tried to say it was fine, but different words spilled out of your mouth instead, “Tomo, why are you so on edge?”
“What?”
“You look so worried, and yet you look so hopeful at the same time.” You’ve seen similar expressions in the students at your university before, and you just couldn’t figure out why they could look that way. How could someone be hopeful, yet so worried?
Tomo smiled sheepishly, was it out of guilt? Or embarrassment? You really couldn’t tell, “I’m… I’m thinking about what kind of a person this traveler could be.” He looked at you as if he was waiting for you to comment, but seeing that you weren’t going to speak until he explained himself, he let out a deep sigh and continued, “I… I wanted nothing more than to be the hero who accomplished the impossible. The one who took the musou no hitotachi from the shogun, and lived to tell the tale. The one who saved Inazuma from the vision hunt decree. …But, I wasn’ strong enough back then. I’m not even strong enough now.” You saw him clench his fist, “But now, there’s someone who accomplished what I longed for with all my life. What if… He’s someone I can’t respect? Someone I wish to deny with my entire being? What would happen? Even if I can respect the guy, can I really accept his fate… My fate, without denying my wish?”
Tomo tries to act relaxed around you, but he’s still human. So many emotions swirl inside him, and of course some of them won’t be as favorable as others. It’s human nature to reject those negative emotions, especially if you are a samurai who follows a specific honor code. Jealousy and hatred… these go against every honor code a human is given, and perhaps even that of a warrior. This dissonance, discord, and confusion… How much did it hurt Tomo? How many people did it hurt?
You stared into Tomo’s eyes, it was filled with so many things that you couldn’t look away.
I see. You were a human all along.
Tomo stared back at you for a couple seconds, before looking away with a smile on his face, “Ha-Haha! Sorry! I said something weird didn’t I? Anyway, they said we should wait here, but do you think we’re allowed to order something–”
You placed your hands on his, and he froze. He slowly lifted his gaze to meet yours once again.
And he saw the best smile you have ever given him.
“Don’t worry.” You whispered, “Even if what you feel towards this man is rejection… Even if what you feel is affection… Even if it’s jealousy, it would never lower your value as a person.”
Even that mysterious north star who dragged you out of the dark shows a hint of darkness himself from time to time. But he shines so brightly with a smile on his face. And that is why you love the place he has given you. And that is why…
“Every star worries that they’ll be outshined, but their luminosity depends on the ability to fight against their own turmoil, not from the luminosity of other stars.”
That is why I find them… and you… so beautiful.
“So, don’t think you have to feel a certain way at any point in your life, okay?”
After a couple moments of silence however, the logical side of your brain realized how embarrassing the thing you said was, and you felt your face turn bright red.
“O-Or that’s what Strong always said! Uhm, no, maybe it wasn’t… B-But…”
You felt arms wrapping your body and your vision went dark. Sudden warmth, soft chuckling above your head… It took a while for you to process the fact that Tomo was hugging you.
“I don’t really get what you mean…” Tomo laughed,  “But you’re trying to cheer me up, right? Thank you.”
You curled up a little in embarrassment, but also because you could tell that he wasn’t fully convinced with what you said. You were never good at cheering people up, to think that’ll come to hit you in the back of your head at a time like this…
At that moment, you heard the door open behind you two and you pushed Tomo away out of panic. Why do people have to come in at your most embarrassing moments? You and Tomo turned your heads towards the entrance, to find Xingqiu with a man and a… Strange white fairy.
“It’s been a while since Paimon ate at the Liuli pavilion! Xingqiu, we can eat as much as we want, right?”
“Paimon, don’t eat too much, okay? We’re here to meet people.”
There he is.
You and Tomo both faced the blond haired man entering the restaurant. For a moment, you thought he shot you a sour look, but it immediately turned back into a soft smile.
“Hey, I’m Aether. This is my partner, Paimon. Xingqiu said you two wanted to meet me?”

I’m kind of going through a lot and ended up going into a depressive episode because of it.
Hopefully once everything sorts itself out, I’ll be able to stick to a darn schedule.
Here’s the new chapter, ahhhhh!

”You guys took longer than I thought, did something happen?”
You couldn’t help but look away at EM’s question. Even though you thought you accepted your fate, it seems you still feel guilty about what happened. Why did you have to hide anyway? Because you were embarrassed and didn’t want Strong and Weak to see you like that? That’s not a good reason to snoop around them.
“It’s nothing.” Tomo replied for you and you held out the orange pill box to EM. She sparkled and smiled brightly at you.
“Thanks you two!”
You nod slightly as EM twirled into her room, “Oh! Oh! I got us desserts! Almond Tofu! I bought 3, but I ate 2. Uh… Hehe!”
She was lying. You don’t know about what, but you knew she was lying. Though, from how she was acting, it didn’t look like she was lying about anything big, so you decided not to pry any further.
“In that case, Tomo, you can have the last plate.” You suggested.
Tomo started to ruffle your hair and gave an energetic laugh, “We can share one plate, you know?”
Share… The thought made you build up heat on your cheeks. You couldn’t tell why, but you didn’t mind it either. Usually you would turn down such an offer and allow Tomo to take the dessert, however…
“It’s really good! You both should try it!” You really couldn’t reject EM’s enthusiasm either.
“Alright.” You agreed, and sat down by the table inside EM’s room as Tomo sat next to you. EM took her seat across from you two in anticipation. You scooped up the almond tofu with your spoon and brought it into your mouth. It’s good. Though, you thought Weak could make it better.
“It’s delicious.” Tomo nodded as he finished half of the plate in the matter of seconds, “Ah, darn. I already ate too much. Gravity, you have the rest.”
You couldn’t help but chuckle, what is with this guy anyway? To you, he felt free, honest to his own wishes and desires. Yet, he also possessed enough composure and strength to care about others. In that sense, Tomo was completely different from you, but you didn’t mind that.
In the corner of your eyes, you saw EM grinning from ear to ear. As a romance story lover, she admitted that she likes watching real life romantic relationships as much as fictional ones. “But if you fangirl about real life relationships, then you put pressure on the couple.” That’s what she told you when you asked her about it long ago. “So I don’t do it. But I still love watching it.”
You assumed a similar thing was happening right now with you and Tomo. You coughed a bit before shifting the conversation, “By the way, for tomorrow…”
“I want to go look around alone!” You froze for a moment. You couldn’t believe your ears, so you relied on your sight for the truth, only to learn your ears did not deceive you. EM was raising her hand with an excited look on her face.
“You?” You questioned, “Alone? Why?”
“That’s because… Uh…” Her eyes swam around for an excuse. Eventually she thought of one and exclaimed, “I wanna go on a secret mission!”
“Is it a secret mission if you tell us you’re going on a secret mission?” Tomo chuckled.
“Well, that’s… You know! A secret!” You observed EM and thought of a couple different possibilities as to why she’s suddenly wanting to work alone. After all, EM hated being by herself. So much so that for the first few weeks after you started living with her, she asked to sleep in your room just because she couldn’t bear to sleep on her own. Even now she tends to become restless when there’s no one nearby to talk to. Long story short, it’s very unlike her to ask to be left by herself. Which could only mean one thing…
She found a friend here?
You thought to yourself and you couldn’t help but smile. Leave it to EM and Strong to make friends out of someone they barely know.
“Alright, then I’ll go around Liyue with Tomo then.” You agreed. Tomo looked surprised and confused, but it seems he decided to value you and EM’s decision. “Hm… Then… Want to meet up by the harbor at noon? Just to make sure that we’re okay? Huh, not having a phone is a bit annoying, isn’t it?”
“I know right? I wanna read romance novels again…” EM complained. You smiled nervously before finishing up your almond tofu.
******
“I never got a grade like this when I was a student.”
I tried my best. But what is that worth when the person you’re trying to impress doesn’t care about your hard work? Society only cares about the final product, and my father wasn't an exception.
“I expected better from you, Harper.” I winced, but still kept up my smile. I needed to smile. If I don’t smile, people will leave me. No one will love you if you’re sad all the time.
Ignore those sirens inside your head.
Ignore those cries for help inside your head.
Ignore it.
Ignore it.
Ignore it…
“I’m sorry father, I’ll work harder next time.” I smiled as he threw my calculus test at me.
89%. I tried my best. But it seems my best isn't 100%.
“Go to your room and study until your mother makes dinner.” My father went back to reading the news on his laptop. A beloved doctor who everyone relies on. I understand that my father wants me to be as successful as he is when I’m older, but the pressure is starting to suffocate me. “Honestly, I thought you would be better with that photographic memory you have.”
Photographic memory doesn’t do anything in math. In math, everything could come crumbling down just because you forgot to carry the 2. Memorizing the theorems really doesn’t do anything for you. Why can’t my father understand that…?
I climbed the stairs that lead to my room and collapsed on my bed. The sirens are getting louder, louder, louder. I should be studying, I really should be. But my brain wouldn’t listen, it wouldn’t let me lift a muscle.
Harper Gibson, daughter in the household full of doctors, student council president of her highschool, accepted into an Ivy league school that her father went to. On top of that, she has photographic memory. A girl with everything anyone could wish for. Privileged, smart, and always surrounded by friends. A girl whose life is on easy mode. That’s who I am supposed to be. I don’t deserve to be upset about anything.
So then why?
Why do I keep having terrible, terrible thoughts inside my head?
I needed to do something or else I thought I’d go insane, so I picked up a romance novel. A trashy romance novel where a privileged girl finds a love interest, and instantly her life is perfect. You can do anything with love, every problem becomes insignificant with love, because love conquers all.
They make it look so easy. You find someone and immediately, all your problems go away. My father would accept me. My mother would praise me. My friends would actually care about me.
But I’ll never find someone like that. Because my life is already supposed to be perfect as it is.
*****
“Do you think EM is okay?” You expected Tomo to be worried as you parted ways with EM. So you really weren’t surprised when that was the first thing he said as you two started your investigation through Liyue harbor.
It would be a lie to say you weren’t worried about EM. But at the same time, you didn’t want her to feel like you were babying her. You wanted to show her that you trusted her, and that despite what her head might tell her, she genuinely grew as a person.
“She’ll be alright.” You told him with a slight smile and held his hand, “I heard there’s a bookstore nearby, so let’s investigate there.”
You started to pull Tomo by his hand and walked around the city. Though admittedly, you had no clue where this bookstore was supposed to be. You knew it was supposed to be up stairs somewhere, but there were so many things that you couldn’t keep track of everything.
Not to mention, you were also on edge because you knew that Kazuha could be nearby. If Tomo finds Kazuha, would he leave you? Of course he would, he said as much when you first met him…
“Gravity?” Tomo waved his hand in front of your eyes, which made you jolt in surprise.
“Wh-What?”
“Are you alright? I’ve been calling you for a little while now.”
“Oh, sorry.” You smiled nervously before you looked up above Tomo’s head, “Oh, I think that’s where the bookstore is.”
Tomo stared at you before chuckling, “Yeah, that’s why I was trying to get your attention.”
You tried to apologize, but before you could, he pulled you up the stairs to the open market bookstore. Exactly what you wanted: plenty of books. You were only allowed to look around aimlessly for a few minutes before the store clerk coughed in annoyance, trying to rush you. You decided to pick up the closest history book you saw and started flipping through it.
“Yaku…shas?” You weren’t familiar with the term, but as you read along, you were able to put together that they were some sort of magical species with elevated powers. If you could get your hands on one of them, then you could finish your goal rather quickly. …But from how the book wrote about them, you assumed they were hard to find.
“If you’re interested in the history of Liyue, I suggest this book instead.”
You snapped your eyes away from the book and towards the voice that spoke to you. A young man with an odd hair style, and you were already used to how people in this world could casually have dark blue hair.
You glanced at the book the young man was holding, and reached towards it with hesitation. Flipping through it, it seemed to be a book about the general history of Liyue.
“Thank you.” You forced a smile. To be honest, the yakusha book helped you more with your goal, but seeing as god-like beings are tied directly to this region’s history, you decided it’s not the worst book to start out with. Perhaps it’ll go more in depth than the lady at the inn.
“You don’t seem to be from around here.” The young man noted, “What’s your name?”
Would it really be wise to give your name to this person? Though, you decided that not giving your name would be more suspicious.
“It’s Gravity.” You replied and looked towards Tomo, “And that is my friend, Tomoaki. Tomo for short.”
Tomo lifted his head away from the book he was reading and grinned towards you two, “Or Dark Energy.”
You chuckled and nodded. Maybe you should start calling him Dark Energy, though you liked the name Tomo better.
“Tomo and Gravity huh? Interesting.” You didn’t know why the young man had such a sly smile on his face, but you didn’t like it. “Oh, I apologize. I should have given my name first. It’s Xingqiu.”
“Xingqiu, it’s very nice to meet you.” You nodded, “Uhm, are you from Liyue?”
“I am.” Xingqiu tilted his head, “Why do you ask?”
“Have you ever seen a yakusha?” There, now you sound like any curious visitor who is asking about a book she once read. Pretending like you’re an idiot is the best way to ask for information. At the very least, that is what you believe in this particular situation.
“I have, actually.” You froze. You asked just because it was a good way to start a conversation, but you never expected him to actually say yes. “He’s a friend of a friend. But he never shows up unless Aether calls for him.”
“Aether?” You questioned. You assumed it was a name, not the fake material that people theorized about decades ago.
“Indeed.” Xingqiu grinned, “You must know about the famous traveler, right?” You shook your head and you saw the look of shock on Xingqiu’s face. You looked to Tomo for help, but he shook his head, indicating that he wasn’t aware of the rumor either. This made Xingqiu more shocked, “Really? That’s surprising. I thought everyone in Teyvat knew of the traveler.”
“Why is that?” Tomo questions Xingqiu. You really didn’t like where this was going.
“Well, he’s just so strange. He can control the elements without a vision, defeated a dragon, saved Liyue from the Fatui and an evil god, abolished the vision hunting decree in Inazuma, then saved the dendro archon in Sumeru.”
“The vision hunting decree?” Tomo paused.
“Mhm.” Xingqiu smiled, “All thanks to the traveler.”
Tomo went silent as he looked down at the ground with a serious look. You really, really didn’t like where this was going. You watched him with Xingqiu until he finally spoke up with determination, “I need to go meet him.”
“Oh, you want to meet the traveler? I can help with that.” Xingqiu suggested before shifting his gaze from him to you, “I can assume you also want to meet him?”
Do I want to meet him? A famous traveler with enormous power. Whether he can become a friend or a foe could have a massive impact on your journey ahead. Though, acting on your own couldn’t be the best option. At the very least, you wanted Strong, Weak, and EM to know about this too. Better yet, if you could meet the traveler with the three of them, Strong and EM would definitely win his heart, and he could become an ally. You were good at manipulation, but manipulation could come out with a sour result when used on a person with great power. Yes, at this very moment, the risks outweigh the benefits.
So the best course of action is to deny the offer. Yes, that would be the best… And yet…
You couldn’t help the look in Tomo’s eyes. Shock mixed with determination and aspiration. If you said no, would he follow your lead? Would he regret it?
This is so illogical.
“Well, if I’m allowed that honor.” You couldn’t believe what you had just agreed to.

Chapter 12: Feynman Diagram
So... Whenever I make original characters, it feels like they end up with a personality of their own. That is basically what this chapter is. Some of my ocs decided they wanted to do stuff. Hope you enjoy it at least? If not... Well, it's my story, so meh.

Going through the hidden door, past the living room, you walked through the long hallway to the very end of it. That was where the door to the lab was located.
Since the five of you started living here, you all slowly modified the cave to make it look like the house you all used to live in back in your original world. It wasn’t that difficult given your powers, and you even managed to add some stuff that wasn’t in your previous home, Tomo’s new room right next to yours was one such example.
The other example was this lab.
“EM said her pill box was on the table… Oh, there it is.” You approached the science table in the middle of the room, and as EM mentioned, the neon orange pill box was sitting right next to some scrap metal parts, loose wires, and some theoretical calculations that Weak must have done.
You placed the pill box inside your large bag and began looking around the room. You didn’t see Strong or Weak when you came into the house, so you assumed they were in here, but the only one you found was Tama sleeping on the couch, who Tomo was already petting.
“Strange, I wonder if they went to gather fruit or something…” You whispered. Suddenly you were worried about whether they had enough food before you, EM, and Tomo left. You figured Strong could find food for himself, but it might prove to be a challenge for Weak… You remembered the tired look he gave when he went to gather food with you and Tomo the other day.
“Worried?” Tomo asked, without looking away from Tama. You turned towards him and let out a nervous chuckle.
“I suppose you can put it that way. I really wanted to see them too…”
Admittedly, you knew it was rather unhealthy to rely on someone so much that you started missing them even before you left for Liyue. You made a mental note to tell Strong and the others about it later. Perhaps there’s something the four of you could do about it. Or maybe you all will come to the conclusion that it’s normal because you four are basically family. A rather messed up family. Either way, nothing bad can come if you communicate enough.
“You really like them, don’t you?” You were caught off guard by Tomo’s question. Perhaps it was his tone of voice? He’s been upset for a while now, and you really didn’t understand why. But an unhappy tool could cause trouble later down the line. Perhaps you’ll humour him a little.
“I really do.” You agreed. “I would give them anything. If they told me they wanted the world, I would take over it and give it to them.”
When you first met him you weren’t sure what to make of Strong. The cheerful optimist was the opposite of who you used to be, and certainly not the type of person who you would usually befriend. Then again, you never really befriended anyone before Strong. But ever since he came into your life, he became a constant, a person you could go to so that you can center yourself.
“He is my North star.” You concluded. It seems that your thoughts were so strong that it fell out of your lips. Tomo snapped his head towards you, surprised. “Strong, I mean. He’s the person I find the most comfort in, whenever I feel lost I come to him.”
Admittedly, everyone in your group probably felt that same way. He is the glue that keeps the four of you together. And Weak is usually the logical one making sure you guys didn’t do anything too stupid. EM is the mood maker who lifted the morals in the group. While you are the cunning one who made sure that no threat came in the way of your family. Yes, together there is nothing that could stop the four of you. Not even the end of the world apparently.
You were lost in your daydreams until you felt someone stand behind you. When you turned around, you saw that it was Tomo who had stopped petting Tama and was looking at you with a pained expression.
“Tomo?”
“You like him? Strong, I mean.”
What is this man talking about? Of course you like Strong. You made it clear as such, at least you thought you did. “Of course I like him.”
“Does he like you?” Tomo asked.
“I’d hope so?” You tilted your head.
Tomo looked like he was hesitating for a second before looking straight at you. You almost felt as if you were going to get sucked into his purple eyes. “Gravity, I know what you think of me.” What he said made you flinch. Does he know that you only see him as a tool? No, it can’t be… You were sure that you hid your intentions well. “And, I don’t like it… But there’s a reason I still stick around.” He held out his hand towards you in a gesture which you assumed suggested that he wanted you to hold it. You stared at it for a little while before you placed your hand into his palm. Tomo  gently squeezed your hand and started interwinding his fingers with yours. You looked up at him in surprise, “I just… I can’t stay away from you.”
This is strange.
Your heart is pounding.
Why is your heart pounding?
Why can’t you look away?
It’s as if the room became 10 times warmer…
“Gravity, I think I’m in–”
Your lonely world was interrupted by the sound of door slamming in the distance. It sounded like the front door. Strong and Weak must have come home. You looked towards the entrance of the lab with a horrified expression, as you listened to their footsteps and voices becoming louder, louder, louder by the second. Beyond this door is Strong and Weak, likely making their way towards the lab. And they’re going to walk in on you and Tomo? Interwinding hands? And with the both of you blushing so loudly?
You didn’t even think about your actions before you pushed Tomo into a nearby closet before entering it yourself and closing the door behind you. Tomo blushed louder and opened his mouth to protest before you covered his lips with your hands. You couldn’t even tell why you were hiding. Embarrassment? Confusion? All you knew was that you didn’t want Strong and Weak to see you in this sorry state. You desperately looked at Tomo, trying to communicate to him in every silent way as possible to stay quiet. You felt his face get hotter before he nodded, and you slowly pulled your hand away from his lips.
And the door slammed open, “No! We are NOT doing an experiment that’s essentially the Manhattan project!” The first voice you heard immediately after was Weak’s. He sounds rather annoyed. Then again, you realized that was how he was 90% of the time. Or at least pretending he’s annoyed while being all happy without trying to show it. That didn’t seem to be the case this time though.
“I’m not saying we should make a bomb!” You heard Strong’s voice this time. Curios, you started peeking through the keyhole of the closet and Tomo joined you on it. Beyond the keyhole was Strong and Weak as you suspected. Weak was staring at Strong in disbelief while Strong was overflowing with excitement. “But it’ll be cool y’know?! It would shed light to soooo much physics of this world! We won’t use it for anything bad!”
“That’s what a lot of scientists say.” Weak snapped, “Strong, there are no scientists in our world who woke up one day and said ‘you know what would be fun? A massacre.’ It just ended up that way because they didn’t think about the consequences of their research.”
“Oh come on! Most of the time it's the politician's fault for stuff like that. See, a politician’s job is to claim to fix this world’s problem, and a scientist’s job is to actually solve the problem while the politicians take the credit for it.” That argument almost made you chuckle before you realized you were still hiding.
“No! No no no!” Weak shook his head, “This isn’t about politics. It’s about responsibility. Apparently something you’ve never considered.”
“Why you…!”
Their fighting might be getting out of hand. How strange, it’s normal for them to fight, but they never do it to actually make the other upset. It was more of a playful argument if anything. But it looked like they were getting heated right now. Perhaps hiding in this closet was less important, and you should intervene? You decided to reach towards the doorknob.
…That was when you saw Weak lean in to kiss Strong.
You froze in place as your mind felt like it crashed. Is this what a blue screen is like for your brain? You stared at the situation in front of you, blinking once, then twice, until suddenly your head started to fully process what was going on and you felt your face burn up. Tomo seemed to be just as confused as his jaw dropped open as he stared into the keyhole.
After a while of kissing, Strong and Weak pulled away, staring at one another. The first one to break the silence was Strong, “What was that for?”
Weak looked away, his cheeks flushed, “You looked upset… I don’t like seeing you upset. …I wanted to cool down before we continued this conversation, but I didn’t know how… S-Sorry if that was too forceful.”
“...” Strong looked away as well, “Pancakes.”
“Huh?”
Strong grinned, “You’re right, I wasn’t thinking about the potential consequences of such a big research project, sorry I tried to strong arm you into it. I still want to do it though, in a responsible way. So, why don’t we talk about the rest over pancakes or something?”
Weak stared at him, flabbergasted, before rubbing the back of his head, “Well, no, I should have at least heard your side before rejecting the idea immediately. Sorry. I don’t mind talking this over, but I’m making the pancakes. You’re terrible at cooking.”
“Whaaaat?!” As Weak started out of the room, Strong followed behind him, “I can at least help! I can cut the fruit to go with the pancakes!”
“Fine, I’ll teach you how to hold a cooking knife first though–”
“I know how to hold a cooking knife–! I don’t know how to hold a cooking knife, yeah, teach me–”
You listened to their fading voices as the doors closed behind them, and after a few seconds, you collapsed on your knees and covered your cheeks. Weak kissed Strong, and from how they were talking, not for the first time either. But then that would mean that… What would it mean?
“Uh… Strong… Weak… Kiss…” You felt as if the world was spinning around you. Tomo, who finally came out of his trance, waved his hand in front of yours to try and get your attention.
“G-Gravity? You alright? …Gravity?”
“Kiss… My two family members… Kissed… Then flirted… Kiss…”
“G-Gravity?”
“What does this mean?!” You panicked. Tomo, realizing your panicked state, started shuffling inside your bag, “A-A-A-A-Are they dating?! What are they gonna do then? Get married?! Do people get married now?! Wait no, maybe they’re just flirting. S-Strong and Weak were flirting and I just didn’t realize? What’s going on…?!”
Tomo pulled out the UAC which contained your teleportation powers. He activated it and the two of you found yourselves in a field of Liyue. He picked you up and sat you down on the grass and proceeded to pat your back, “You alright…?”
“S-Strong… Weak… Aaaaaaah….” You shivered. Tomo panicked a little and decided to try and give you some words of encouragement.
“G-Gravity, I know it’s shocking to see Strong love someone else, but… Uh… Darn, sorry. I really don’t know what to say in these situations.”
“Huh?” You froze and turned your head towards Tomo, mechanically, “What do you mean…?”
“That’s why you’re shocked right?” Tomo looked away, “Because you like Strong?”
You paused as the thought flowed through your head and shivered in disgust, “No!”
“Huh?” Tomo looked at you in surprise.
“I love Strong! But as a family! He’s like a brother to me!” You didn’t know why you were getting so worked up. Perhaps the thought of falling in love with someone you saw as a brother sent shivers up your spine, “There is no way that I’m falling in love with him! Ever! And he would say the same about me!”
“Then why are you so upset?” To Tomo, it was a genuine question, but it made you pause. Why are you so shocked by it? Are you in love with Strong? No, that is definitely not it. Do you think Strong and Weak would make a bad couple? Not at all. They might seem like they’re fighting all the time, but you know how much they make each other happy. If anything their play fights reminded you of an old couple. The ones in EM’s favorite stories who bicker at each other while saying ‘I love you.’  No… The reason you are so upset must be because…
“I feel… Like I betrayed them.” You slowly looked up at the sky above you. The sun was starting to set, and the world was stained in a purplish hue. “...There must have been a reason they haven’t told us. But now, I know their secret.”
‘Families don’t keep secrets.’ This is a fantasy that you realized was a fantasy long ago when you started living with your friends. Yes, keeping secrets that could harm others is not okay. But, sometimes you have secrets that you just want to keep to yourself. Not out of malice, or from a delusion of protecting the other person, but… Just because. No one is obligated to know every detail about someone just because they love them.
You knew Strong was bisexual, he mentioned that he was during a conversation you had with him about a year ago. But, Weak never actually told you about his sexuality, so you never really paid any mind to it. It wasn’t your business after all. But now, after you saw what you saw, what’s the difference between this and forcefully outing him? And what were you supposed to do now?
“I feel guilty.” You admitted as you hung your head in defeat. Guilt, it’s an emotion you never felt towards anyone except towards the people you love.  “I feel like I just saw a secret I shouldn’t have seen. I mean, what would they do if they found out I saw? What should I do now?”
Tomo stared at you before placing his hand on your head, “...What do you want to do?”
You paused. What should you do? The only two options, you felt, were to admit to them of what you saw, or to pretend like nothing happened. If you confront them, they might feel embarrassed. But if you don’t say anything, that feels rather cruel too. To know exactly what was going on behind your back when Strong and Weak were likely trying to keep this their secret.
All you can do in this situation, you thought, was to choose the lesser of two evils.
“I think… I’ll pretend not to know.” You mumbled, “I feel like… They’ll tell me when they feel the time is right.”
Tomo smiled, “So that’s what you think is the right thing to do huh?”
You nodded to him, “I don’t want to force them into anything. I want them to be as happy as they could be. Although…” Perhaps it’s because you have finished processing your emotions. Suddenly, all the shock and confusion drifted away from your mind, and only pure happiness remained, “I think they’re perfect for each other. If the others’ existence is making them happy, then I couldn’t ask for anything more. Though, it’ll be annoying if they break up and get sad about it…”
“We don’t even know if they’re actually dating.” Tomo pointed out.
“I suppose. But they did make it sound like it. …No, I shouldn’t be assuming things. I’ll just wait for them to tell me first.” Relationships are difficult. Especially since you never had too much exposure to them. After all, your friends were always struggling with school work and research, you didn’t think they had enough time to look for romance. The closest that you got to it was EM’s love for romance stories, but even those were an idealized version of it.
Maybe EM would know how to handle this situation better? …No, I can’t tell her about this. It would be disrespectful to Strong and Weak.
Tomo, who was staring at you while you were thinking, suddenly started chuckling, “You really love them, don’t you?”
Suddenly, your mind rewinded back to what happened back in the lab, “Tomo, were you trying to say something to be back there?”
“I’ll tell you later.” Tomo stood up and started back towards Wangshuu inn. “We need to deliver EM her medicine, don’t we?”
You couldn’t say anything back. He is right. EM needs her medication as soon as possible. So then, why do you feel so… strange?
“I suppose.” You ran to catch up to Tomo. Not to show him affection like usual, but rather because you wanted to walk besides him.

Wangshu inn was much more pleasant than you thought it would be. Of course, it was more expensive than you thought it would be as well. The only reason the three of you decided to stay here was because you wanted to get away from Liyue harbor.
Kaedehar Kazuha is here. You thought, I need to investigate the geo archon and adepti, but I need to make sure we don’t come across Kazuha if possible…
You felt a hand being placed on your forehead, and you looked up to see Tomo looking at you, worried. Somehow the warmth made you calm down a bit, how strange. “Are you alright? You’ve been on edge since we got here.” He asked you.
“Yeah, I’m alright.” You forced a smile. To your surprise, Tomo seemed even more worried now.
“What you need is some tasty food!” EM chimed in from the other side of you. The three of you were currently sitting at a table for the inn’s restaurant. Since you couldn’t get any food while at Liyue harbor, EM decided that she’s held back enough and invited you and Tomo for lunch. “It might not be as good as Weak’s cooking, but everyone here has been telling us about how the food of Wangshu inn is amazing!”
You smiled in agreement as the dishes started flowing into the table. Tomo and EM both sparkled in excitement, while you examined the server. She was a young woman, around the age of 20 or so, with a sweet smile across her lips. Customer service smile, as you called it. Perhaps she would be the best person to start with? “Thank you, before you leave, may I ask you about Liyue? You see, we are travelers from afar and are not accustomed to the culture.” You saw from the corner of your eyes how Tomo and EM had already started eating.
The young server agreed and started to explain the culture and legends of Liyue in depth. The archon war, the creation of Liyue harbor, the geo archon who is known to his people as Rex Lapis… She must get these questions a lot from tourists, she explained with such flow and detail that even EM couldn’t help but pay attention, although she never stopped eating her meal.
“The first mora was created by Rex Lapis, as you all may know.” The young woman smiled, “And the golden house mints all the mora in Teyvat. Or, at least it used to…” Suddenly, her expression turned dark, “That is, until Rex Lapis died…”
“The geo archon died?!” Tomo dropped his chopsticks in surprise, his loud voice making you jump in surprise. You picked up the chopstick for him and looked towards the server to see if she was willing to replace it. You saw that her expression had gone sour.
“...Yes. Rex Lapis died.” She answered, emphasizing ‘Rex Lapis.’ You handed her the chopsticks and she showed her customer service smile once again, “I shall be back with another set of chopsticks. Please enjoy your stay.” She walked away from your table.
“So… The archon of this land is dead?” EM asked as she put down her empty plate. That was fast.
“It seems so.” You nodded, “But… From what she said, the only person who can create mora should have been the geo archon, right?”
Tomo sighed, “That’s why I was surprised when you guys said you made mora…” He rubbed the back of his neck, “But… The geo archon died, huh? …As someone from Inazuma, it shouldn’t concern me… But it’s still weird…”
“It’s not that weird!” EM grinned, “In our world, this really old queen from another country died! But we were still kinda sad since she was alway there since we were born. I bet it’s the same for you guys!”
Tomo paused and grinned happily, “I guess. Thanks!”
“Anyway, her stories also mentioned the adepti.” You commented. They are what you three are here for, so Tomo and EM put on a serious look when you mentioned them, “From what she said, it seems that it’s hard for us to meet them however…”
“I mean, if we could meet someone who made a contract with the geo-archon that easily, I’d be worried.” Tomo laughed.
“Welp, from what she said…” EM picked up her spoon and scooped up a spoonful of your oncidian tofu, making her movement dramatic so that you had enough time to stop her, which you didn’t. “It sounds like there are a bunch of adepti, all with different shapes, sizes, and personalities. So maybe our first step is to research the different adeptus?”
“I believe that would be the best option.” You agreed. You need to find the adepti and learn about them before you extract their energies.
After finishing her meal (and eating some of yours), EM started reaching inside her bag, “I was thinking, we should order desserts too! I was looking at the menu, and apparently there’s a dessert called almond tofu and…” EM tilted her head to one side as she started laying out the contents inside her bag onto the table. With every item, an expression of worry became more prevalent. Though, the people around you seemed more worried than EM when she brought out wrenches, lightbulbs, and even her railgun onto the table. Eventually, she showed slight panic as she turned to you, “G-Gravity, I think I forgot my medication.”
You paused in terror. You don’t know if you fully understood how much EM depended on her medication, but from what you heard from your environment, skipping medications could have drastic effects on the person.  “L-Let’s go get it! Without those you–”
“Whoa! Whoa! It’s not that bad!” EM laughed nervously, “Well, no, it is bad, but uh… Yeah, I do need them.”
“If you don’t feel comfortable, Tomo and I could get them for you.” You suggested, although it would be easier for EM to come with you, you didn’t want to stress her by having her move location so much in such a short period, “I have some UACs, and we know that we can put our powers into it.” You and EM decided to play around with your teleportation powers a few days earlier, and one of the things you two learned was that you could store teleportation into the UAC to use it later.
“Oooh! Thank you so much!!” EM sparkled, “Alright, in that case, I’ll ask the servers to bring our food up to our room. After all, Gravity, you haven’t taken a single bite of your food! It’s a waste, so let’s eat it together in our room with some almond tofu!”
You looked back at the dishes you ordered, which only EM had touched so far, you smiled in embarrassment while you pulled a UAC out from your bag. It felt weird at first to carry around what was essentially a quantum blackhole into your bag, but you never thought it’ll come in handy like this.
“It’s probably on top of the desk in the work room.” EM smiled as the two of you stored your powers into the UAC, “The orange pill box, you know what I’m talking about!”
“I do.” You smiled and turned to Tomo, you couldn’t hide the excitement in your eyes as you realized that you might see Strong and Weak. If only EM could come along... “So Tomo, we’re going back to our place and picking something up, is that okay with you?”
Tomo looked conflicted about something, which made you confused, but eventually he nodded, “Yeah, that’s fine.”
“Alright! Say hello to Strong and Weak for me then!” EM waved. You nodded and the two of you held your hands. You closed your eyes to channel your energy, and the next moment you felt the air around you become heavier. You opened your eyes to see the ocean, you were back in Inazuma.
“Hey, Gravity?” Tomo called out to you, so you just turned your head towards him, but not your body, “What is this medication for EM?”
You thought about it. Should he know? Well, if she wants him to know, she’d tell him herself. So instead you smiled innocently to him, “You should ask her.”
Tomo looked embarrassed and averted his gaze away from you, “R-Right, sorry.”
You stared at him. He’s been acting rather strange lately. You held his hand to see if he cheers up with that, but instead it looked like he was even more upset. And yet, when you tried to let go, he squeezed your hand in protest.
How strange, oh well, I shouldn’t pry into it too much.
So you pulled Tomo’s hand towards your home.
****
They make it look so easy.
First, the princess meets a prince, or maybe a friend, or anything to support her. And all her problems are solved in a matter of seconds. That’s why, when I met them, I thought it would be the same for me.
But it wasn’t. I still had to go to counseling, I still had to take medication, I still had to be careful of what my brain told me.
That doesn’t mean I’m not thankful for them though. I feel the happiest when I talk to them. They accept me, both my strengths and flaws. I love them, they’re family that I finally found. But unlike the fairytales, just because you found your new family doesn’t mean the harm caused by your previous ones will be forgotten.
This isn’t good, am I having withdrawal symptoms? I can’t be, at least not this early. Then again, Gravity, Weak, and Strong always reminded me whenever I needed to take my medication. So I don’t know what withdrawal symptoms look like, or when they start up.
“What I need is some dessert!” I ordered some desserts after Gravity and Tomo left.  I wanted to eat it with them, but I am a weak human… I cannot resist the three plates full of temptations sitting in front of me…!
White gel-like structure that’s reflecting the lights, almond flakes and mint to add colors… That temptation’s name… Is almond tofu!!
“I couldn’t help but wonder what it tastes like since I’ve never tried it before… But…!” I scoop up an almond tofu using my spoon, the way it wiggles looks so tasty…! I bring the spoon into my mouth and…!
“Delicious!” The way the scent of almonds spread inside my mouth…! It fits so well with the jelly-like texture! It’s sweet, but not so sweet that it’s overwhelming, and the milk balances out the whole dessert. I could get addicted to this…!
“I should buy one for Weak before I leave Liyue~.” He would eat it, then understand what it’s made of, and then… “He would make us the ultimate almond tofu that beats any almond tofu in this world!”
“Ultimate almond tofu?”
…I didn’t say that. That voice sounded too deep to be mine too, so I couldn’t have even said it accidentally. Though, it doesn’t sound like Gravity or Tomo’s voice either. When I looked around the room to check if anyone else was here, I saw someone standing by the window. Whoa, nice hair. How did he get such pretty green colors like that?
“What exactly is the ultimate almond tofu?” It’s a boy that’s a bit younger than me, at least I think? What did he ask? Oh, the ultimate almond tofu.
“My friend is a master chef! He turns any dish into the ultimate dish! That’s why everything he cooks is ultimate!” Weak will deny it if I tell him that, but I bet he’d still have that embarrassed look on his face, the one you show when you wanna act cool after being praised.
The young boy looked curious. Could it be that he’s a fellow almond tofu lover?! Welp, Gravity, Tomo, it’s your fault for taking so long~. …I’ll buy them a new one later. But since I have two more plates of almond tofu… I’ll give one to this young boy!
When I held out the plate to him, he looked a bit surprised, “Eat up! It’s delicious!”
He seemed hesitant at first, but slowly took the plate and started to eat. Aaah! This thing is reminding me of a cat! I wonder how Tama is doing back at our home!
“I’m EM by the way!” I must make a friend out of this almond tofu loving cat! He didn’t respond to me though, so I just stared at him and waited. Maybe if I make him feel awkward enough, he’ll give me his name too?
Stare.
Stare.
Stare…
“Xiao.” Oh, it worked. Xiao… Yup, I’ve memorized it.
“Hey Xiao! Hey, hey! Wanna be almond tofu friends?” Xiao finished his plate of almond tofu then put the plate down on the table.
“The offering wasn’t bad, but I have no intentions of becoming close to a mortal.”
“That’s what they all say. I mean, just look at Gravity and Weak. Strong told me that they hated talking to people before, but now they’re my best friends! So I bet we’ll be good friends too!”
Xiao looks annoyed at me, no… I can’t lose now…!
“So, friends?” I held out my hand, but Xiao just stared at it for a second, then turned away.
“I suggest you stay away from me.”
Voosh.
Oh wow! He disappeared! Hmph, he came to me for almond tofu, and yet he has the audacity to tell me to stay away?
Alright! I accept your challenge. I shall become friends with you, Xiao! No matter what obstacles stand in my way…!

Chapter 10: Lenz's law
I. Hate. Exams.
I also hate how your professors think it's okay to make exams that are freakishly hard so that they can give students with exam anxiety a heart attack, making them do worse than the rest of the class.
Sorry for missing an update last week, on top of my exam studies, I also had a bunch of terrible things happening at once.
I'll try to get back at a weekly update!

“Did you get everything? Change of clothes, toothbrush, materials for research–”
“Yes mom, for the last time we got everything!”
“Mom?! Last time I was dad, and now I’m mom…?!”
“Nooo~! Don’t put me in the timeout corner!”
“EM…! You little rascal…!”
You blankly watched Weak and EM playfully argue with each other. Although you were in the middle of packing, their banter made you stop in your tracks as a smile crept up onto your face. At the same time, it made you realize that you likely won’t be able to see their play fights for a few days, and it made your heart drop.
“Hey, Strong?” When you turned towards him, you saw that he had managed to get himself tangled up in electrical cables. You paused and started helping him before continuing your question, “Do we really have to spend a few nights there?”
“Of course!” Strong grinned, aggressively pulling the cords away from his body, “We need every little detail! What if the town is eaten by a sea monster every night before everyone goes to bed, just to come back the next morning…?!”
“I don’t think something like that would happen,” You laughed nervously, you tried to keep up a cheerful act, but perhaps it was too on the nose? “But I guess it’s true something might happen during the night.” Not only that, you figured that Kazuha is likely still in Inazuma looking for Tomo. As long as you left the country for a few days, there’s a chance that Kazuha would give up and stop looking, or at least go somewhere else to look for Tomo.
Strong stared at your sad face, he stopped trying to escape the grips of the electric cables for a moment before ruffling your hair. The act made you pause, but you didn’t mind it, so you stayed put, “Of course, if you get lonely, you can always come back here to see us! I bet Weak’ll even make you cookies!”
You were about to respond when you felt a pair of arms pick you up. Instead of carrying you however, the person in question put you down on your feet a little ways away from Strong. You only knew of one person who might do this. You turned around to look at Tomo, his expression suggested that he wasn’t happy about something. “I’ll stay with you, so you won’t get lonely. EM is coming too after all.”
There was one thing you were wondering about ever since you started spending time with Tomo. “Tomo, you like to show affection through physical contact, don’t you?”
Tomo paused and looked at you, worried, “Sorry, did you not like it?”
“Oh no, I like it.” You smiled. In reality, you felt indifferent towards it, but it was convenient if it meant Tomo could delude himself into liking you.
At your affirmation, Tomo’s face lit up in joy and relief. You kept smiling in response when you heard a large thud from behind. Looking towards the sound, you found that Strong had somehow managed to get more tangled up in the electric cables and were looking at you two pitifully, “A little help here?”
“Jesus Christ…” Weak sighed as he approached the three of you, EM following right behind him. It seems they finished arguing about… Whatever they were arguing about now. “Leave this idiot to me, I’ll make sure I get him out of this mess. You three go on ahead towards Liyue.”
“Oh! Before that!” Strong sparkled as he tried to get up, leading him to fall flat on his face due to the cables. Instead he lifted his head up and used it to motion towards a table nearby, “Me and EM made you guys something! I think it’ll be useful!”
“Oooh! That’s right!” EM cheerfully ran over to the table to pick up three cloth bags, throwing two of them towards you and Tomo. Tomo managed to catch his without problem, while you fumbled a bit. At least you caught it without it hitting the ground.
You opened the bag and saw golden coins stuffed inside. You noticed a strange sensation flowing through your body when you touched it. Picking one up between your thumb and your pointing finger, you rotated it to inspect its features. “This is…”
“Mora?!” Tomo panicked as he opened his own bag.
“Yeah! That’s the currency of this world right?” EM grinned, “No matter what we do, we need money! Eating fish, having dinner by a riverside, buying ingredients for Weak so he can cook us food…”
“Why is it all food related?” Weak flattened his eyes.
You looked towards EM and Strong, “Did you guys make these with your visions?”
“Yup!” Strong grinned as he sat on the ground, still tangled in cables. The way he lifted his body seemed so awkward that it made you chuckle. “With our powers, we can do whatever we want! Wanna build a skyscraper right next to Tenshukaku?! Just say the word and we shall do it!!”
“We are not building a skyscraper in Teyvat.” Weak snapped. Strong grumbled in dissatisfaction before smiling to you, EM, and Tomo.
“Anyway, good luck! I expect many great things from you guys!”
“I feel like the mood is ruined but… Yeah, good luck guys. If anything pops up, come back straight to this cave.”
Oh how you wished you could stay here with everyone, but at least you’ll have EM to keep you company, and maybe Tomo too. In fact, imagining EM enjoying herself on a trip does make you a little excited. The three of you waved Strong and Weak goodbye before you held hands with EM and activated your vision. You were already informed of the location of Liyue harbor on a map, all you had to do now was to focus on your vision. Focus… Focus… And you felt the air change around you. You opened your eyes to see the red gate welcoming you three into the vibrant city.
“Whoa! We did it Gravity! You’re the best!” EM smiled as she squeezed your hands in excitement. You were about to reply to her when EM focused her gaze to something inside the city, and she untangled her hands from yours as she ran towards it, “Gravity! Look! Look! What’s that?!”
You watched her as she made herself towards the red gate, and you whispered quiety, “She really is like a quasar.”
“Quasar?” Tomo questioned.
“Yes.” You replied, “It’s a type of active galaxy that emits a lot of energy. Don’t you think it fits her?”
Tomo looked towards EM and nodded, “....I can see that.”
“What’s wrong guys?” EM called out to you two as she waved her arms above her head, “Come on! Let’s scout the city!!”
You smiled nervously as you pulled Tomo by his hand and walked towards EM.
You pretended not to notice the blush on his cheeks and the sad look in his eyes.
*****
As you expected, Liyue harbor looked a lot like ancient China, or at least the fantasy version of it. The vibrant colors, children playing, and the vendors calling for customers… It almost felt too stereotypical of a fantasy town.
At least EM seemed to be having fun. She gasped and cheered at every little thing she saw, striking up a conversation with everyone she passed by, and stopping by every restaurant to drool at the smell.
She’s so different from when we first met. You thought to yourself. Even though you’ve known EM as the cheerful quasar for a while now, you still get caught off guard from how much she has changed. You distinctly remember the fake smile she put up when you first met her. You couldn’t tell if you were the only one who noticed, or if it was common knowledge between her peers, but her smile made you feel uneasy. At the very least, Weak and Strong must have also known, or else they wouldn’t have introduced her to you.
You were glad it didn’t take her too long to come out of her shell, her happy smile right now fits her much better than whatever she had before.
“Gravity! Tomo!” She called, “Do you guys wanna eat here? At this… Wan… min… Wanmin restaurant! They sell kabobs!”
“I don’t think it’s kabobs.” You laughed nervously as you started walking towards EM, Tomo following behind you. But what you saw behind EM, far away in the distance, made you stop.
“Gravity? What’s wrong?” Tomo leaned in to look into your eyes, then tried to follow your gaze to what was up ahead. You touched his cheek and made him look at your eyes.
“Actually, before we eat.” You smiled softly towards EM and Tomo, “Maybe we should find an inn so we can put our stuff down?”
“Oh! Ooooooh! You’re smart!!” EM sparkled, “In that case, one of the townspeople mentioned a beautiful inn outside the harbor! I asked for directions too! This way!” And she started bolting away from the harbor. You interlocked hands with Tomo, distracting him from the person you were looking at.
Why is he here…?! The whole reason you agreed to leave Inazuma was because you thought he would be there. To get away from him and keep Tomo for yourself. Shouldn’t he be looking for Tomo right now? Why did he leave Inazuma?
Kaedehara Kazuha… You really want to make me your enemy, don’t you?
****
“Kaedehara kid! Beidou too! Long time no see!” Paimon waved her arm towards Kazuha, who had started unboarding the ship alongside Beidou.
“Hey Beidou. And Kazuha, we were really surprised when you sent us a message saying you wanted to meet us in Liyue harbor. Weren’t you taking a little break from the Crux fleet to go visit your friend’s grave?”
Aether looked closely at Kazuha, and immediately realized that something was wrong. The usual calm smile of the anemo user was replaced with a worried frown. He was looking towards the ground rather than towards Aether, with the air around him being much heavier than Aether remembered.
“W-What’s wrong Kazuha? You don’t look too happy.”
“...Ah, I apologize. I was just… Thinking. In fact, what I am thinking about is exactly what I wished to discuss with you three.” Kazuha tried to stay calm, but Aether didn’t miss him clenching his fist.
“Finally gonna tell me what’s been bothering you, huh?” Beidou sighed, “I was worried you wouldn’t tell me. I’ve never seen you this upset, even when I first picked you up from Inazuma.”
“What can we help you with?” Aether asked eagerly. What exactly could upset such a composed sword user?
Kazuha took a deep breath and looked at the three apologetically, “I apologize for my behavior. Allow me to explain what happened.”
*****
“You’re telling us that your friend who died during the vision hunt decree came back to life? And this girl is keeping you away from him?” Paimon held up her arms on the side, looking at Kazuha skeptically. After all, everything Kazuha had told her seemed unrealistic, if she didn’t know any better, she would have assumed that the samurai had hallucinated the event due to the immense grief of his dead friend.
“I don’t know too much about your friend…” Beidou trailed off, “But I did hear about 5 kids picking a fight with the Raiden Shogun. It was all anyone was talking about in Inazuma.”
“Someone who could go against Ei and survive…” Aether mumbled, closing his eyes and bringing his hand towards his face, “If that’s true, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have some sort of power to bring back the dead.”
“Are you sure he wasn’t just a look alike?” Paimon asked. Kazuha shook his head solemnly.
“I wish to believe that is the case… But his scent… I would never mistake it. It belonged to my friend. However, I do agree that it’s unlikely to bring back the dead that easily… Perhaps it was just my mistake… If it is, how wonderful that would be…”
“Well, it wouldn’t hurt to check!” Paimon exclaimed, “We can leave for Inazuma starting tomorrow, right?”
“Actually.” Kazuha paused, “Would it be alright if we stayed in Liyue for a little while?”
“Huh?” Paimon paused, giving Kazuha a puzzled look, “B-But, they were last spotted in Inazuma, right? Shouldn’t we go back to Inazuma then?”
“I would have agreed with you just a few seconds ago,” Kazuha mumbled, “But the most forgotten place on a moonless night is the street under the lantern lights…”
Paimon flattened her eyes, “Huh?”
Kazuha looked at them, “The wind had brought their scent, it’s likely they’re here.”

The smell of bacon and eggs filled up the room as you stared at the colorful plate sitting in front of you. French grated carrot salad, potato salad, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, sunsettia slices… You even got french onion soup as a side. The sight of it all made your mouth water. You slowly scooped up a spoon full of the potato salad and brought it into your mouth, the aroma of black pepper and salty flavor mixed with the soft texture of the potatoes filled your body, and you couldn’t help but tremble in euphoria.
Weak’s cooking…! Now that you’ve taken time to enjoy your first bite, you couldn’t help but speed up your hand and mouth, So good! So good!
“Gravity, you’re going to choke if you eat that quickly–” EM warned you a little too late as you started coughing. Something went down the wrong hole.
“Haha! Gravity! You’re so childish– *cough* *cough*” Strong, who started laughing at you, also started coughing, likely for the same reason as you.
Weak gave you a strange look as he slid two cups of water towards you and Stong. Without a second thought, you both reached for it and started gulping down the contents inside the glass. Sighing, and realizing you were no longer in pain, you went back to eating your breakfast. Puffing your cheeks a little from how much food you were stuffing in.
After a little while however, you noticed that Tomo was staring at you with a serious look on his face. Gulping down whatever you were chewing at the moment, you tilted your head at him, “What’s wrong?”
“...” Tomo hid his face with his hand, “...So cute.”
“Huh?” You tried to ask him what he meant when you heard another coughing fit from the other side of the table. It was Strong choking on his breakfast again.
“Stop eating so quickly.” Weak hissed, annoyed, as he gave Strong another glass of water.
EM laughed, “I do admit that Weak’s cooking is the best though!! It’s been a while since we were able to eat this well too!”
Back in your previous world, the four of you lived under the same roof as roommates. Although you four split your chores equally, cooking was always Weak’s job as he was the best at it. Now that the cave you lived in had actual kitchens and furniture (created by EM and Strong), Weak was finally able to make some proper meals for all of you. And you just couldn’t thank him enough.
“Thank you Weak.” You smiled, “It’s delicious.”
“Yeah! No one can rival Weak’s cooking!!” Strong grinned.
Tomo nodded, “It’s really good.”
The way Weak blushed in embarrassment made you chuckle. He clapped his hand like a school teacher trying to get his student’s attention, “We’re not here to discuss my cooking. We’re here to discuss some important plans going forward.”
“You said you analyzed Raiden Shogun’s powers?” You asked. Weak nodded in response.
“Yeah, and just as you thought, I was able to reverse engineer some physical laws of this universe from the data.” He looked down, furrowing his brows, “...But.”
“But?!” Strong braced himself for whatever Weak was about to say next.
“...Something’s wrong. It’s inconsistent.” Weak thought, “On top of that, I don’t understand what kind of energy it is. It’s not potential energy, but it’s not electromagnetic energy either.”
“But it’s the power of the lightning archon?!” EM panicked.
You thought about the implications of what Weak said. If Weak couldn’t categorize the type of energy it was, then it’s possible that energy in this world takes different forms than in your original world.
Tomo, who finished shoving everything on his plate down his mouth, asked the group, “So what do you mean ‘what kind of energy’? Isn’t energy just energy?”
Weak thought for a little before putting up his index finger, twirling it a little, “Not quite… Well, yes, energy is just energy. But there are different types of energy. Gravitational potential energy, electric potential energy, kinetic energy… Even mass can be considered energy.” He stood up from his chair to go to the blackboard set up nearby. He drew what looked like Earth, as well as a satellite orbiting it, “Let’s say that we have a satellite here. …Oh, uh, a satellite means something that orbits the planet. But, let’s say that something causes it to fall towards Earth. If we set an initial condition saying it’s stationary at t=0, we can say that the only type of energy they have is kinetic energy. As it falls down towards Earth, it slowly gains speed, converting its potential energy into kinetic energy, until eventually, all of its energy has been converted to kinetic energy.” Weak turned towards Tomo to see if he was following along. Tomo’s eyes were glazed over, staring at the board blankly with confusion written on his face. Weak sighed and stated flatly, “Basically, energy can be converted to different types of energy.”
Strong raised his hand, which held his fork with an apple slice stuck on it, “So I talked with Weak earlier! And we thought we should try collecting energy from another source! Something that’s like an archon but not an archon!”
Weak nodded, “I want more samples. It’s likely this world has different types of energy than our own… We’ll call it ‘Divine Energy’ for now. But I want to see if there are multiple types of divine energies, or if they can all be considered a single category.”
EM sparkled, “Something that’s not an archon, but similar to one…! Ooooh, I am loving the fantasy aesthetics of this world! But what exactly should we make into a target?”
You glanced over to Tomo, who in turn looked at you, “Tomo, have any ideas?”
He brought his hand by his chin, searching through his memories for anything similar to what Weak had just described. He paused and looked back at you, “Yeah, actually.”
“Whoa!” Strong jumped on Tomo and shook him, “Tell us! Tell us!”
“Alright! Alright!” Tomo laughed. “You see, there’s this nation called Liyue across the ocean. I’ve heard multiple stories about it in Ritou, where ships from Liyue docks. Apparently there are these beings called ‘adepti’ that serve the Geo archon of that nation. They hold divine powers, but aren’t exactly archons.”
A nation across the ocean. You remember how Japan in your world was an island nation just like Inazuma. With so many similarities, you wondered if there’s some sort of connection between this world and yours. Perhaps this is a parallel world? But the laws of physics are completely different. Then, an anti-universe? You’d be torn into shreds by now if that was it…
You let your thoughts wander as your friends and Tomo talked more about Liyue. From what you picked up in their conversation, it sounded like Liyue was similar to China.
“Alright then!” Strong stood up from his chair and announced, “Our next mission is Liyue! Let’s collect energy from an adepti to see what type of energy they have!!”
EM sparkled, “And for that, we first need some information! Therefore~!” She hugged your arm, which made you snap out of your dazed state immediately, “Gravity! Wanna go spy on Liyue together?!”
“Huh?! Oh.” You chuckled, EM probably wanted to use the new teleportation skill the two of you had mastered. Admittedly you wanted to try it out too. Perhaps this would be a good opportunity. Plus, you’d get to see EM’s happy face, “Yeah, I’d love that.”
“Bring Tomo with you.” Weak commented, “Even if he’s never been in Liyue, it’ll be a good idea to have someone from this world around for the sake of safety.”
“I wanna go!” Strong paused, “I wanna go too! China! Fantasy China! I wanna go see what’s up there!”
Weak brought his fingers to Strong’s forehead and flicked it, “The two of us have important work, remember?”
Strong winced in pain and rubbed his forehead, “Important work?” He thinks about it for a second before his expression lights up in excitement, “Oh right! The smart–”
“Anyway.” Weak cut him off, “Can we ask the three of you to go collect some information on Liyue and their adepti for us?”
Strong grinned, “We’ll exchange information in two… No, three days!”
EM playfully salutes to Strong, “Yes sir!” You chuckle and copy EM, then Tomo, with a confused look on his face, copies you.
******
Kazuha clenched his fist against the fences of the deck. While his crewmates on the Crux were busy preparing to dock the ship, Kazuha couldn’t bring himself to do any work from the amount of distraction inside his head.
Your face flashed behind his eyelids: your hollow eyes as you held Tomo against your body, the lump of darkness you shot towards him. There was no love nor care in your actions towards him. Only selfish desires and manipulation.
To think I allowed her in my heart for even a second. Kazuha hit his fist against the fence. It was unlike him to lose his composure like this, and perhaps that was one of the reasons why his crewmates left him alone throughout the whole trip. He didn’t understand what was going on. He didn’t understand why Tomo was alive and what you had to do with it. All he knew was that you were the one who took Tomo away from him, preventing him from seeing his best friend one more time.
No, perhaps I am jumping to conclusions. Kazuha knew that the figure he saw by you and the Raiden Shogun that day was indeed Tomoaki, there was no way he would mistake his best friend for someone else. But is that really the truth? Perhaps that man is someone wearing the face of his best friend? Which is more likely: A complete stranger that looks like his dead friend, or his friend coming back from the dead. The answer was clear as day, and yet, Kazuha couldn’t help but think… Hope, that the figure he saw that day was indeed Tomo. But that would mean that his first love was…
Kazuha hits the fence yet again. No, a manipulative and destructive woman like that couldn’t be his first love. At most, it was just a passing fancy. His body reacting to the sudden wind that came his way. Regardless of if that man was indeed Tomoaki, it’s no doubt that you were Kazuha’s enemy.
“You’re riled up today aren’t ya?” Kazuha looked up at the familiar voice, Beidou was standing next to him with a gourd of alcohol, “We’re almost there you know?”
“Beidou.” Kazuha paused before looking towards the ocean, embarrassment spreading across his face, “I apologize for my lack of help during this trip.”
“It’s fine.” Beidou laughed, “But I gotta say, this is the most I’ve seen you distracted. Are you gonna tell me what happened?”
When Kazuha came back to the Crux with a frantic look, Beidou didn’t ask him questions, she simply let him on board. That didn’t mean she wasn’t curious however, she hoped that Kazuha would regain his composure soon, but after realizing he was still upset on their last day, she finally decided to bring up the conversation.
Kazuha looked towards the land the ship was sailing towards, “...I will tell you later. I figured that it would be easier for me to explain to both of you at the same time.”
On the deck of Liyue harbor were Aether and Paimon, both raising their arms up high to wave to the Crux.

Chapter 8: General Relativity
Gravity is becoming more and more unhinged...

The sounds of two footsteps sounded like the second hand of a clock during a boring lecture. So boring, so annoying, every second you had to spend with this man was nothing but torture. Though, perhaps it was because you were so good at hiding your true emotions, Kazuha didn’t seem to notice your disdain towards him. In fact, he seemed like he was enjoying himself on this walk.
“You seem quite happy.” You commented. Kazuha stopped in his tracks before his face turned bright red like a maple leaf.
“Do I? …Actually I just had an idea for a new poem. I suppose that’s helping my mood.”
You hummed in response, but nothing else. Kazuha smiled sadly at your lack of interest and continued on the walk, “I take it that you are not very fond of poetry?”
“Not really.” You responded, “I prefer things with set answers, a definite solution. …Though, I suppose that even in science, it’s never that cut and dry.”
Kazuha looked at you, “Are you a scientist?”
You chuckled and looked up at him with a sweet smile, “In training. So I still have a lot to learn.”
“I admire people like you.” Kazuha chuckled, “I admit that I do not have the patience… nor the talent to work towards becoming a scientist.”
You looked up at him before looking ahead at the cherry blossom trees. There was something you heard from Strong about this situation. Yes… He said something like…
“I don’t know too much about patience, however…” You followed your train of memory, regardless of why Strong felt the need to say these things to others, if this was what he believed in, then you’ll repeat it over and over again, “Learning… Is not really about talent.”
Kazuha tilted his head, “Pardon?”
“At first, it might seem like you need talent to learn difficult things, but…” You paused, wondering if you sounded sincere enough, “...In reality, all you’re doing is playing cat and mouse with the universe… You’re the cat who’s trying to catch the mouse, or the universe. Someday, the universe will get tired, and you’ll be able to learn a little bit more about it. …The last one standing will win someday, so it’d be a shame if you use ‘lack of talent’ as a reason for giving up….” You smiled up to Kazuha nervously, “...At least that’s what my friend would say.”
Strong is a genius, there is no doubt in your mind about that. But the truth is, while the four of you were called ‘geniuses,’ that doesn’t mean that all of you were geniuses of science. Strong was actually the genius of leadership and human interaction. There was something about him that, when he was the one cheering you up, you couldn’t help but feel this wave of motivation and hope hitting you. You’d always hear him encourage your classmates whenever they felt like they weren’t good enough to pursue a physics degree, and what you told Kazuha was just one of the things he would tell those people.
You never needed this kind of encouragement, but he did give you another encouragement in the past.
And that was the day you became who you are today.
“That’s admirable.” Kazuha smiled, “...You must really like your friend.”
You chuckled lightly and responded, “I do. Actually now that you mention it… Did you ever find your friend’s vision?”
In a single moment, Kazuha’s happy expression turned into a frown, and he lowered his gaze at the ground in shame, “...No, not yet.”
Something about how he acted made your heart pound in excitement. The best friend he’s so concerned about, the one he thinks is out of his grasp for eternity, is wrapped around your little fingers, so much so that you were able to convince him to relive the day of his death! Kazuha’s pain? His turmoil? His confusion? Serves him right for trying to get in your way.
“I have not… No matter who I ask, they have no information that pertains to my friend’s vision.” Perhaps you should kill him now? “I’m so… Frustrated… At myself… To think I would let something so important go missing…” There are fewer witnesses here… “Ah, I apologize for going on about myself.” But it’s not like he did anything yet… “There’s just something about you that calms my thoughts.” And killing him would undermine that ‘promise’ you made with Strong that day… “Perhaps it’s because… You carry a similar scent as my friend…”
Kazuha widened his eyes at the sudden realization and he snapped his head towards you. You could have cared less about the sudden aggression he was showing you, however. you were too lost in your own thoughts, “...Actually, you carry his scent a bit too strongly… But… Why…? How…?”
I guess I’ll keep him alive for now. I’ll kill him if it gets too much.
“I apologize Kazuha, but…” You summoned a blackhole, “You’re kind of boring.”
At that moment the world went dark. Every light wave, sound waves, people, wind and life stopped in its tracks. You looked closely at the darkness surrounding you, and as you had assumed, everything around you was becoming thinner, and smaller.
“General relativity is quite useful.” You glanced back at the frozen Kazuha one last time before you started towards Tenshukaku, “Be glad Strong is such a nice person.”
*****
It all happened last night.
“Tomo, can I ask you a favor?”
Tomo couldn’t tell what your intentions were. You brought him back from the dead and you’ve always acted kindly towards him, but he didn’t miss the hint of insanity that flashed inside your eyes from time to time. And yet, everytime you came close to him, everytime you smiled so sweetly to him, he felt his heart skip a beat. This time was no exception, he felt the sudden warmth spread onto his body from the hand on his arm, “Wh-What is it?”
You sighed in relief before you responded, “I want you to challenge the Raiden Shogun.”
“What?!” The surprised voice didn’t come from Tomo, but rather from EM. She looked frantic at the idea and confronted you, “Gravity! Are you telling him to die?!”
“Of course not.” You blinked, “I won’t allow him to get hurt this time, no matter what. I just… Really need to see Raiden Shogun’s power.”
Weak stared at you, “Do you have some sort of a plan.”
You smiled, “I do.”
Strong twitched, “Well? Tell us!”
You shot a glance at Tomo and shook your head, “I can’t let Tomo hear the plan.”
It would be a lie if Tomo said he didn’t feel betrayed at this moment, he figured that you were trying to get rid of him in exchange for something from the Raiden Shogun. He didn’t mind though. It was a life that was supposed to stay dead, he couldn’t thank you enough for bringing him back to experience the world again, even if it was just for a brief moment. And if he can die yet again by the light he dreamt of pursuing, then there was nothing more he could ask for.
It seemed that you realized what he was thinking about, because you took his hands and gripped on them firmly, “I’ll protect you.” You looked into his eyes with a defiant look, “I promise.”
Even if it was a lie, even if it was to get him to listen to you, Tomo couldn’t help but hold onto that pitiful promise.
Gravity, you lier.
And just like last time, Tomo lost to Kujour Sara. There was hesitation in both of their blades. Sara’s from the fact that she was fighting a man she thought was dead, and Tomo’s from the fact that if he wins, then the Shogun wouldn’t carry divine punishment to him, which he knew was what you wanted. Everyone was confused at Tomo’s arrival, with some begging the Shogun to postpone the duel so that they could question him about what happened. But the Shogun’s response wouldn’t change.
“The best we can do is to honor a warrior’s decision.”
And now she stood before him with her blade, the purple thunder surrounding it reminded him of the day of his death. And today, he’ll die by the same hand, forced to live through that pain yet again.
But that is what a samurai is for.
Tomo stood his ground to face it, refusing to look away. Don’t dare to look away. With a smirk on his face, he faced musou-no-hitotachi with pride, and waited for his death.
But the blow never came.
Instead, what appeared before him was a black orb with indescribable geometry. Instead of Tomo, the Shogun’s blade hit against the black orb, with the orb slowly sucking the energy out of her blade. Tomo has seen this before, he remembered you calling it…
“UAC.” You whispered as you walked past Tomo and towards the Raiden Shogun. She looked at you and the orb, wide eyed and confused. You chuckled a bit before continuing on, “‘Ultimate Amazing Capacitor’...Or was it ‘Ultimate Awesome Capacitor?’ Either way, it’s a creation between me and Strong, and it stores every single type of energy there is in this universe. Whether it be kinetic energy, gravitational potential energy… Even mass, it can be stored inside it. Since it’s a product of gravity and the strong force, it might be the closest solution we have to string theory thus far…” With hollow-eyes, you looked up at the Shogun, “...It seems you’ve been playing with my treasure, dear Shogun. Thank you for taking such good care of him, shall we return the favor?” You sneered.
“Gra….vity…” Tomo didn’t mean to say anything, but the voice slipped out of his mouth without his control. You turned your head towards him and smiled, happily.
“I promised I’ll protect you, didn’t I?”
And at that, another pair of footsteps were heard, running from between the crowds of people behind them and towards you and Tomo, “Whoooo! Yeah!! Gravity, that was awesome! Definitely hero material!!” Tomo quickly recognized the voice, as Strong ran in front of him and made a strange pose, “Raiden Shogun! Your days of tyranny ends here! Nuclear Strong Force, the leader of the Fundamentals, is here to stop your terror onto our newest member, Dark Energy!”
You tilted your head towards Strong, “Fundamentals…? Dark Energy…?”
Strong grinned, “We decided on it while you were gone! ‘Fundamentals’ is our group name, isn’t it cool?! And Tomo is Dark Energy since there are new theories out there saying that Dark Energy might be the 5th force of nature!”
While Strong described the new names to you, Raiden Shogun managed to pull her blade away from the UAC, and she charged her blade yet again to swing at the three of you. That was until a sound similar to an explosion was heard in the distance, and a bullet hit the Raiden Shogun’s blade. Raiden stumbled back as the blade lost the thunder surrounding it, until it’s power dwindled away.
“Hehe! It seems my power is enough to overpower that of an ‘archon’” EM chimed in as she approached the crowd, “Hello~! Fundamentals, member No. 4, Electromagnetism here! You all can call me EM for short!”
“What did you just shoot at her…?” You asked.
“Oooh, this? It’s a railgun! I built it last night when I learned we’re gonna go up against what’s essentially a god of this universe, so I had to make something to protect myself. Ah! Being able to control Electromagnetic waves is so much fun!”
She showed off the small railgun inside her hand before pointing it towards Raident, “I’m glad I made it! Shogun! I won’t allow you to hurt my friends! Hmph!”
At this moment, the tenryo-commission finally snapped out of their surprise to pursue the group, but just as they were about to approach the criminals threatening their archon, the ground collapsed below them, creating a separation between them and the Raiden Shogun. At the same time, the statue of the Raiden Shogun began to collapse, disintegrating into nothing but a pile of dust.
“We got the sample, can we leave now?” Weak grumbled as he stepped over the crumbled statue.
“Weak! You gotta do the intro! Hero intro, we agreed on this!” Strong complained.
Weak looked away, “No way am I saying something that embarrassing.”
Raiden glared at the five of you, “...I see. It seems all of you are an enemy of eternity. What are you thinking? Causing this much of a ruckus?”
Strong smirked yet again, “Glad you asked! We are the saviors, the hero of our world! The one that will spread hope to the universe we belong in! The super awesome OP isekaied heroes who will stop at nothing to protect those we loved. Blessed by science and the fundamental forces! We are: The Fundamentals!”
Raiden looked shocked at the audacity of this man to spout such nonsense at her. Realizing that her musou-no-hitotachi could be neutralized easily by EM, she used her swordsmanship to cast punishment onto the five of you. You respond by summoning a blackhole and slowing down her movement, and EM shot her railgun at Raiden one more time. However, she was able to deflect the bullet using her blade, making EM panicked.
“Waaaah! She deflected my bullet!!”
“Don’t let your guard down EM!” Weak tried to use radioactive decay on the ground Raiden stood on, which she managed to jump to the next platform everytime the ground beneath her decayed. Using her momentum she slashed at EM, and you reacted as you changed the path of the blade using gravity, and EM jumped out of the way. Yet, even with all your power and EM stepping away, Raiden managed to slice the edge of EM’s face.
I have to think of something. You trembled, Or else we’ll lose…!
“Tomo!!” And now your worst nightmare. You turned around to see Kazuha shuffling between the crowd, looking at you from beyond the canyon Weak created earlier. You quickly pulled Tomo close and pressed your body against his, holding his head down against your shoulder so that he couldn’t look at Kazuha.
“Gravity?” Tomo paused, but you paid no attention to him. You shot a blackhole towards Kazuha, hoping that the spaghettification would be enough to shut him up, if not outright kill him.
What you didn’t account for, was EM spotting this man looking frantic and angry at you, his hand on his sword and ready to jump over the canyon. Without a second thought, she shot her railgun towards Kazuha, and that was when her bullet and your blackhole collided. A flash of light followed by a large crackling sound bursted from the blackhold and your vision turned white. When everything finally cleared up, you realized that you and your friends were in a field. You looked around, trying to piece together what happened, and that was when you saw tenshukaku in the distance.
“What the…?” Strong looked towards tenshukaku, “Weren’t we just there?”
Weak, after checking the surroundings, thought for a moment, then nodded to himself in satisfaction, “I see… I think I understand now.”
EM sparkled, “Ooooh! As always, you’re such a smarty-pants Weak! What is it?”
Weak sighed, “Gravity and Strong’s power together leads to UAC. EM and Strong’s power leads to creation of matter. Then, EM and Gravity’s powers together… must equal teleportation.”
You thought about the implication of gravity and electromagnetism together. Gravity, that can distort and warp spacetime, and photon, a particle that can travel at a speed of light, making its own time and space infinitely small. It would make sense that when these two forces come together, you achieve teleportation.
“That’s amazing Gravity!” EM tackled hugged you and cheered, “We can teleport anywhere we want together! Oooh! We should go on a vacation!” She gasped.
You smiled slightly to EM before shifting towards Tomo, “Yeah, but before that…”
Tomo just stared at you. You couldn’t tell if he was surprised, scared, or in awe. Perhaps a little bit of everything. You tilted your head quizzically and waited for a response from him, then he pulled you into an embrace, burying his face into your shoulder. You felt his body tremble against yours.
“....I doubted you.” You paused as you continued to listen to his words, “I seriously thought that you wouldn’t come back… I-I’m sorry I doubted you.”
He didn’t hear Kazuha. You sighed in relief as you hugged him back, “....I told you that I’ll protect you, didn’t I.”
And you two stayed like that for a few moments before Strong coughed to get your attention, “So, uh…” He laughed, “How do we get back?”
The five of you paused and looked around the area. It was obvious that you were quite a ways away from your comfy cave.
After a couple of suggestions, you and EM decided to master the teleportation skill to teleport the team back to your camp.

“So that’s my plan.” You whispered to your three friends in the field overlooking Inazuma city. Their confused look had diffused into that of satisfaction the more you went on with your explanation, and now they seemed fully convinced to follow your lead.
Except when it came to one thing.
“So, I get the importance, and I think this information would be valuable to us.” Weak looked you in the eyes, “But, you realize that a single mistake could kill Tomo, right?”
“Huh? I’m aware.” You tilted your head quizzically at Weak, “But why does that matter?”
EM cut into the conversation before Weak could answer, “Huh?! I thought you were pretty good friends with Tomo!”
Her innocence made you chuckle. Seriously, she’s known you for a while now, and yet she still believes that you have some humanity inside of you, “Oh, yes. But I don’t care if he dies. It’d be inconvenient, but this is much more important. Plus, this plan won’t fail, you all know that.”
Strong rubbed the back of his head, a nervous smile plastered on his face, “You never fail to scare me… Is that why you didn’t tell Tomo the specifics?”
“Hm, that’s one reason.” You hummed, “But there’s another…”
Weak stared at you, “...Pavlov’s dog, right?”
You nod in response, “If he learns that he can still be safe even without learning about the details of our plans, it’d be easier to send him on a suicide mission someday.”
A burst of nervous laughter came from Strong’s direction. It was obvious that he wasn’t fully on board with this, making you feel a sting in your heart. “Jeez, I don’t ever want you as an enemy, Gravity!” He brushed his nervousness off with a happy smile. After all, it’s a well-known fact among your friends that this is who you are. And they never tried to change you.
That’s why you love them.
“But y’know?” Strong twirled his finger with a smirk on his face, “This plan could use a bit more… Boom.”
“Boom?” Weak flattened his eyes before questioning Strong. EM, on the other hand, clapped her hands like a child who found a new toy.
“I get it! We need more theatrics, don’t we?”
“Eeeexactly!” Strong grinned and waved his hands around, making sure to exaggerate his performance like he was the main character of some sort of play, “We’re the isekaied heroes, saving our dear friend from the hands of a tyrant! So, I vote to put on a little show while we act on this plan!”
“Good-grief.” Weak sighed and brought his hand to his forehead. You wondered how many times he does that pose in a day, “Strong, for the love of all things science, we can’t play around. This is serious. This world isn’t our playground!”
“Huh? But I like the idea!” EM sparkled, “We got ourselves the outfit for the occasion.”
You glanced at your three friends and their new attires. Instead of the modern clothing the four of you found yourself with when you came to this world, each of them wore fancier outfits that fit well with their specialization and personality. ‘Anime main character clothing’ as Strong put it, in fact he and Electromagnetism were the ones who designed and created the fancy clothes for the four of you to wear. The three of them looked amazing, more amazing then they usually do! At least that’s what you noted to yourself. So you’re definitely on board with this whole anime-aesthetics, however…
“...Did I have to participate in this wardrobe change…?”
The clothing EM and Strong designed for you was a Victorian style black dress with astronomy motifs. Admittedly, it looked pretty nice. But when your three friends yelled “Not dressed like that you aren’t!” This morning when you tried to leave the cave, followed by a shove into a closet with EM to get dressed into your current outfit, you were very confused to say the least. You were happy enough to see your friends dress up, that you never considered the possibility of them dressing you up too.
“Of course!” EM pouted, trying to get a reaction out of you, “The three of us got a wardrobe change, so you do too!”
“Okay, but I didn’t expect Weak to be so into this too…” You slowly moved your gaze towards Weak, who was smiling proudly at himself for some reason.
“There’s just something about watching your friend dress up like a million-dollars that makes me happy, you know? Same goes for Strong and EM.”
“Of course! I designed it after all!” Strong grinned, “But that’s one more reason to make this mission as awesome as our new main-character clothes! We need this world to know about us! To love us! Just going in there and saving Tomo won’t be enough!!”
Weak flattened his eyes, “Yeah yeah, sure. So, Gravity. Should we get ready?”
“Yeah…” You blankly looked ahead towards the Inazuma castle. The statue right in front of it, now that you knew what it really was, made you sick to your stomach, “According to Tomo’s story, he’ll probably challenge her somewhere around there–”
You only looked away from the castle for a second. You weren’t even trying to pay attention to the people on the streets. It’s not like you could see their individual faces anyway. But that one face in the crowd made you freeze. You knew him. Even if he was miles away, you’d be able to identify him. The man who you were wary of, the one who could take Tomo away from you…
“Gravity?” Strong called towards you, which made you snap your head in his direction, “Something wrong?”
“Huh?” You stared at him, flustered. What were you supposed to say in situations like this? “...Uh, yeah. Uhm, I’ll be right back.”
“Be right back?!” EM panicked, “But the plan requires us to be close to the castle!”
“I’ll be back!” You yelled before bolting towards the city, “Go ahead without me! I’ll catch up!”
Your three friends watched you disappear into the city, confused and annoyed, but not without trust.
*****
Kazuha walked down the streets he was exiled from a few months ago. The smell of the food carts, the vibrant conversation of those passing by, falling cherry blossom petals, they are just as he remembered them.
Beidou had given him a few days' break away from the Crux fleet to look for his friend’s vision. It had only been a few months since he traveled around Teyvat to awaken the vision, and to think now he is actually trying to find it. Even a man as composed as Kazuha could not help but despair at the loss of one of the only possessions Tomo had left behind.
Kazuha tried to think of a haiku as he walked down the streets. Perhaps poetry would help calm his heart. Actually, he had thought of some great lines this morning, though he has yet to think of the last line.
Angered ocean storm
Yet the sailors do not fret
No matter how many times he tried to finish the poem, Kazuha’s mind would always wander back to Tomo’s vision. Where could it be now? Did someone take it? If they did, would he ever be able to find it again…? It wasn’t just his vision that was lost, his blade that stood as proof of his courage was nowhere to be seen either. If the thief had awakened the vision, Kazuha would have understood, but to take Tomo’s blade with them? This he could not forgive. As a fellow samurai, he had vowed to uphold Tomo’s honor by returning the blade to its rightful place.
…And here he was again, his mind drifting to Tomo. It seems that even poetry was not enough to soothe his soul. If only there was some sort of inspiration… Something that would help him finish the poem…
“Kazuha!”
A vaguely familiar voice, Kazuha looked back towards where it came from. You ran after him as soon as you parted ways from your best friends, though you didn’t expect him to stop so suddenly. Momentum forced your body forward even though you tried to stop, which Kazuha quickly responded to by positioning himself in a way to catch you in his arms, allowing your body to press against his. His arms wrapped around your shoulders to stabilize you, as his mind tried to figure out who this young woman was.
Then it hit him. You were the one he spoke to at Tomo’s grave.
You looked up to meet his gaze, though you didn’t realize how close his face was. So much that an outsider might mistake you two as a couple, which made you regret running at full force.
Angered ocean storm
Yet the sailors do not fret
Stars between the clouds
It almost felt as if the last line he was looking for had fallen into his arms. Mesmerized by your sudden appearance, your beauty, he didn’t notice the awkward position he had put you in. You were the first to act as you wiggled your way out of his arms, “I apologize. Are you alright?”
Kazuha paused before stepping away from you, the realization of what happened slowly settling into his mind, making him flustered, “Y-Yes. I apologize for my behavior.”
“I was the one who ran into you.” You smiled softly. If possible, you wanted to kill this man where he stood, though there are too many witnesses for that here. You’ll have to be a bit more careful, you don’t want to spoil Strong’s fun by being labeled a criminal by the locals. “Kazuha, right? We met before.”
“I remember.” He smiled. He lowered his guard, good. “Though, I realized. I never asked for your name.”
“Oh, uh…” You wondered if you should give a fake name, but decided he’ll figure it out eventually, “...My friends call me Gravity.”
“Gravity?” Kazuha lifted his eyebrows in surprise, “What a strange name.”
“It’s a nickname.” You chuckled, “It’s a rather funny nickname, isn’t it? But I’m fond of it. Uhm, I was taking a walk when I saw you up ahead, so I started running to try and catch you. Uh, I must have run too hard.”
“It’s alright.” Kazuha chuckled, finding your actions rather cute, “Did you need me?”
“Oh no!” You shook your head frantically, “I was just saying hello. I’m sorry if I scared you.”
“Oh…” Kazuha noticed the disappointment he felt when you had nothing else to say to him. Because of the situation, he was wary of you when he first met you, but looking at you now, there was something about you that fascinated him. Perhaps it was because you’re all dressed up? Or is it because you gave him the inspiration he needed to finish his haiku? Or perhaps it was the fact that you went so far just to say hello to him?
The last thought made his heart skip a beat. He brought his hand by his chest to try and calm it down, and he sighed in relief when it didn’t take long for his heart to slow down. Yet… He didn’t want to leave it at that. In that single moment, he was in a state of euphoria, the world seemed more vibrant than it usually was. He didn’t want to jump to conclusions, after all, he had only met you twice. He didn’t even know if he could trust you! But… If the archons allow him to indulge in this impulse for a little bit… Just a little bit… Then… Then…
“Mind if I join you on your walk, Lady Gravity?”
You almost let the sadistic smirk escape onto your lips. This was way easier than you thought it was going to be.
“Of course!”

Chapter 6: First Postulate of Special Relativity
So some of you might be wondering: It's not Saturday, why are you updating?
So... I have Covid. And an ear infection. And my mind have been too foggy because of the prior two, that I'm not really in a state to think about quantum mechanics and gyrocenters. So instead, I decided to write and update the chapter. Plus, with everything I went through, I get to do stuff I'm having fun with darn it!!
So, enjoy an early update!!

“You ready Gravity?”
“I’m ready.” You smiled softly to Strong as you held up your hands in front of you, creating a small black hole. Strong held up his hand towards the black hole, using his Vision to distort its geometry. It starts flashing, warping its shape and the space-time fabric around it, until it eventually bursts with bright light, and then everything is calm. You widened your eyes, after countless hours of trial and error, you and Strong finally managed to achieve your goal.
The two of you were staring at your creation in awe, until Weak came up and chopped Strong’s head lightly, “What are you two planning?”
Strong held his head and looked up at Weak, “Oh hey! Guess what! Me and Gravity made UAC!!”
“UAC…?” Weak narrowed his eyes then looked towards you for explanation. You smiled nervously.
“It stands for ‘Ultimate Awesome Capacitor.’”
“Strong thought of that name didn’t he?” Weak sighed.
Strong nodded proudly next to you, “Pretty cool huh?”
Tomo, who was helping Electromagnetism build a large machine, looked over to you three while carrying a large cylindrical metal object, “What’s a capacitor?”
Electromagnetism chimed while connecting some wires, “It’s a contraption to store energy! The thing you’re holding right now is an example of one!”
“Wait, seriously?” Tomo paused and examined the object in hand closely. Electromagnetism giggled at his response. After she finished up the wires, she stood up and walked towards Tomo, lifting the capacitor away from his hands.
“It goes into circuits and holds charge in a way that causes an electric field to form between the parallel plates. Though, capacitors are almost always metal, so I’m not sure if we can call Strong and Gravity’s creation a capacitor… Speaking of which.” She turned to the three of you, grinning from ear to ear, “Extra pairs of hands would be nice!”
You, Weak and Strong all paused before rushing over to the machine, picking up tools to work on different components. You glanced up at the machine in question, the replica of the one that sent you to this world.
Because of Strong and Electromagnetism’s ability to create objects, the four of you decided to recreate your time machine, but altering just slightly so that you could leave this world and go back to your own. Of course, this time the four of you had hoped that it would actually send you to where you wanted to be: back in time before your world started falling apart.
Truth be told, you could have cared less about the previous world, there were some back there who you cared for, but the world itself and everyone else? Who cares if they suffered or died? The only reason you were so adamant about saving your world is because of Strong. The kind hearted social butterfly wanted to save everyone, and as he is the unofficial leader of your friend group, the three of you followed in his footsteps. At the very least, you assumed Weak and Electromagnetism also wished to save the world, but you were just happy Strong considered you in this project.
With the final screw placed on the machine, Electromagnetism sparkled, “Alright! That should be it!!”
Tomo scratched the back of his head, “To think we’d be separated when we just met… Even though it was a short while, I’ll miss you guys.”
“You sure you don’t wanna come along?” Strong grinned, “Our world is pretty cool! People like you are always welcomed in our super awesome genius club!”
Tomo laughed, but he shook his head solemnly, “Sorry bud, but I have stuff I gotta do here. People I need to find, things I need to say…”
You assumed he was talking about Kazuha, and although this annoyed you a bit, it wouldn’t matter anymore. Afterall, you four were going to leave this world behind. You won’t need a bodyguard anymore.
“I wish you good luck.” Weak smiled. Although he was disapproving of Tomo at first, it seems he came to trust him after all. What a shame, Tomo really could have been a fun addition to this strange group of friends.
“Alright! See ya!” Strong turned on the machine. Just like last time, loud noises and colorful bright lights filled up the area. You closed your eyes and braced yourself for the impact, the sound of machinery turning into background noise. Admittedly, it wasn’t too bad in this world. You had bad moments, but some goods too. You probably won’t miss it, as there is nothing to hold you down here. It’ll just be a fleeting dream that you might remember over a cup of tea.
At least that’s what you had imagined, that was until the whitenoise ringing inside your head drifted into silence, and the bright light you could sense behind your eyelids dwindled down, filling the world with darkness. You paused and opened your eyes. The machine had suddenly stopped working.
“What the…?” Strong paused, clicking on the ‘on’ button a couple of times. But no matter how much he tried, the machine would not respond. He shivered and looked back towards the three of you, who returned the same look of confusion back.
“What’s going on?” Electromagentism asked, “I’m pretty sure everything was correct. I triple checked the blue prints and everything…”
“The calculations should be correct too.” Weak muttered as he pulled out a small notebook from his pocket, flipping through the pages filled with numbers and equations, “We found the mistake in geodesics, and altered the numbers accordingly.”
You watched in silence as your three friends tried to figure out what was wrong. Going over to the machine to check it, checking the numbers and calculations, and sometimes just scratching their heads in frustrastration. Tomo, who didn’t quite understand what was going on, seemed to be on edge, swaying back and forth with confusion and frustration. It was the first time he had seen you all in such a panicked state.
You put your hand by your mouth, looking at the ground as you tried to figure out what could be wrong. There must be something… Anything! Anything that the four of you forgot!
Then it hit you, and you paused, “The first postulate of special relativity…”
Weak froze in terror, “...Fuck.”
On the other hand, Strong and Electromagnetism still looked lost. “‘The laws of physics are the same in all inertial frames’? What about it?” Strong asked the group. This caused Electromagnetism to catch on as well, and an expression of dread spread on her face.
“Laws of physics are the same in all inertial reference frames… In our universe.”
Strong froze and mumbled, “Are you seriously telling me, our machine isn’t working because the laws of physics are different in this world? B-But, the gravitational force and everything should be the same shouldn’t it?”
“Not necessarily.” You pointed out, “Well, yes, the laws of gravity seem to work in a similar way as our own world… But we are also talking about a world with gods and visions.”
“I should have thought of it.” Weak held his head, sighing, “How could I forget such a trivial fact? We’re in a world where a human can create current because a god said they can. Of course recreating the machine with the physics we knew of wouldn’t work. Fucking Hell…” He slowly lowered his body and sat on the ground, his arms limp.
Strong looked at him frantically, “Then the only way to go back is to re-learn physics?! Are you kidding me?!”
Electromagnetism looked down with worry, “...How long do you think that will take…?”
The four of you stared at the ground, it seems you won’t be able to go home that easily, and with this new found epiphany, how long would it take for the four of you to figure out the correct physics to use for the time machine? You couldn’t bear to look at the faces of your friends. If only you could help in some way. But in this particular situation, you couldn’t even find the comforting words to give them.
They were stuck in a world where the laws they gave their life to were stripped away from them, how were you supposed to encourage them like that….?
*****
Weak cooked up some fish for all of you to eat. For the past hour now, the five of you have just been staring at the small fire. The scenery reminded you of your first night here, when all of you surrounded the flame much like this one with the worry of arriving at a new world.
No one except you and Tomo had the will or energy to speak, just blankly staring into the wavering fire, with occasional disturbance being caused by Weak and the fishes. Perhaps this was the first time they were forced to confront the reality of being in another world, separated by the familiar scenery that they have grown to love. Up until this point, it was as if the four of you treated this whole ordeal like a field trip. A minor inconvenience that could be fixed with minimal effort. After all, that’s how the four of you treated most problems. You four were geniuses, people with enough power to build a time machine to stop an undying world. To confront a problem without a clear solution must be tiring for people like that.
Tomo was sitting next to you awkwardly, as if trying to find the uplifting words to give the four of you, but alas nothing came out. He clenched his fist against his knee in frustration before you put your hand on top of it. He paused and glanced over to you, and you gave him a small, yet comforting smile. A tint of pink spread on his cheeks before looking away, and he intertwined his fingers with yours as he squeezed your hand back.
You need him to build an association with you and comfort. …To think that even at times like this, you are thinking about manipulating someone into becoming your toy. As your friends are tormented by cruel reality, you use someone’s emotion against them to get what you want. The thought made you sick in your stomach.
But it seems that this small action of yours had built up enough courage inside Tomo to finally say something in the deafening silence, “Well, at least I get to spend more time with you guys right?”
No one answered, they didn’t even bother to look in his direction. Tomo laughed nervously a couple of times before holding his head with his free hand, “Oh god who am I kidding? Sorry, I’m not a wordsmith like Kazuha.” Again, no response. You tightened your grip on Tomo’s hand when he mentioned his friend’s name, but it seems he didn’t notice as he kept going with his self loathing, “...I wonder if this is how he was like when I died.”
At this, three heads turned towards the two of you and you silently cursed Tomo. Tomo also noticed the sudden attention he was getting and let out a small “Darn it” before lifting his head up in dismay.
“Died? What do you mean?”
“Didn’t you say you were a traveler that Gravity happened to come across?”
“...Ah, now that I think about it, that memorial with a blade…”
The three pairs of eyes slowly turned towards you, making you look away out of panic and embarrassment.
Weak was the first one to speak, his tone sounded kind, but you could definitely sense the anger that was building up inside of him, “Gravity, is there something you’re not telling us?”
“Uhm, well…” Your protests came out as whispers, but you refused to stop, “I-I was gonna tell you guys, but, I lost the timing and… you know…?”
“So you brought back the dead?” Weak questioned, you could tell from your peripheral vision that he was smiling, but something about that smile was… threatening.
“...Uh… It would be wrong to say no… But to say yes is… Well… Jumping to conclusions…? Haha… ha…”
At this Weak sighed, and after a few seconds or so, he glared at you, “Graaaaviiiityyyyy!!”
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” You held up your hands as you tried to think of an excuse, “I meant to tell you guys I really did! But then stuff happened and I just couldn’t…!”
“You. Could. Have. Told. Us. At. The. Beginning!” Weak reached his hand and pressed down on your head, not enough to hurt you, but it was definitely uncomfortable.
“Weak… No squeezing… I’m gonna shrink…” You protested.
“She’s right, Weak. Don’t squeeze her like that.” Electromagnetism pulled his hand away from you before smiling innocently, “We gotta interrogate her more before the punishments!”
“EM! I thought you were on my side?!” You shivered. Electromagnetism winked towards you.
“I am! This is just a… Good cop-bad cop situation, you know?”
Tomo lifted you in his arms before running a little ways away from Electromagnetism and Weak, “Oh no you don’t! You’re not gonna interrogate my partner in crime!” You saw the playful smiles spread between the four of you, making you smile in relief. It seems that they were able to cheer up, even if it was just for a little bit.
You glanced over towards Strong while Weak, EM and Tomo were still joking around. Why isn’t he joining in on the fun? He looked like he was lost in thought about something, and worry bubbled up inside you again, “Strong?”
He paused and looked up at the four of you, “Huh? Oh, yeah. As the sheriff of this small cave, I authorize the squeezing of Gravity! Let’s make her shorter!”
“Noooo!” You clung onto Tomo as he started to run in circles around the cave, making the three of them spin in circles after him. After a while, the three chasers became fatigued and collapsed on the ground, giggling and smiling.
“Jeez, you guys are so out of shape.” Tomo grinned, as he triumphantly stood in front of them with you in his arms.
Strong sat up, still giggling, “God, but Gravity, you brought him back? Tomo, how did you die anyway?”
Tomo put you down as he sat in the ground in front of Strong, “I challenged Kujou Sara to a duel. Because I lost, I was forced to take divine punishment.”
The four of you stared at him in confusion and he elaborated further. The divine punishment ‘Musou-no-hitotachi,’ the proof of ultimate power held by the god of thunder in Inazuma, and how he had wished to challenge it. After listening to his explanation, EM laughed nervously at Tomo, “You’re insane… Why would you even want that?”
“Because.” Tomo gave you four a confident smirk, “There will always be those who dare to brave the lightning's glow.”
“Reckless.”
“Prideful.”
“Idiot.”
“Tomo, there are these things called a human limit…” The four of you stared at Tomo in pity and disbelief and he twitched in annoyance.
“Hey, I know what my limits are. …If I die seeing the ultimate power I dreamt of, then so be it.”
“But now you’re back to life.” EM smiled.
Tomo paused and smiled back, “...Yeah… I guess I am.”
This was when an idea sprung inside your head. Yes, an idea that could help your friends escape this predicament you found yourselves in. Something that Tomo could help you with, and a mission a tool like Tomo would be worthy of.
You grabbed Tomo by his arm and leaned towards him, bringing your face close to his, making him blush, “Tomo, can I ask you a favor…?”
****
It was a normal day at the Tenryo commission, too normal for the likes of the genius detective Shikanoin Heizou. Swinging his legs while sitting on a bench, he sighs in boredom, watching the birds fly above his head.
“No crimes, no mysteries, nothing interesting. Jeez, won’t something… Anything! Come and cause some havoc so I have some fun?”
Kujou Sara approached the detective from behind and placed official documents on his head, “May I remind you that you have official duties waiting to get done?”
“But those are boring.” Heizou sighed, “I want something with more excitement, something that would challenge my investigation skills, something that–”
At this moment, Heizou froze, staring at the distance with widened eyes and confusion. Sara called his name a couple of times before realizing that something was wrong. This detective, the one who never gets shaken by anything that is thrown his way, was now so caught off guard that he couldn’t even hear Sara calling for him. Sara felt chills up her spine before slowly following Heizou’s gaze, and she choked in surprise.
No, it can’t be… It just can’t be! The man she has defeated, the man whose death she watched with her own eyes, how… How could he…?
“Kujou Sara.” The man with purple eyes and golden ponytail looked straight towards her, “I challenge you to a duel.”

Chapter 5: Lane-Emden Equation

You trembled at the sight of the hideous monsters. They were ugly… Disgusting! Yet somehow, even they were more bearable than some humans out there.
You felt Weak’s hand rest on your shoulder, “I-I-I-It’s o-okay G-G-G-G-Gravity… I-I-I’ll m-make s-sure those th-th-th-things won’t lay a finger o-o-o-on you…!” His hand was shaking uncontrollably, and when you looked up at his figure, his face was pale as a ghost. His eyes weren’t in focus and you could hear his teeth cluttering against each other. His entire body was trembling as he stared at the group of strange monsters in the distance. As someone who already understands the surrounding universe, his mind must be going into melt down after seeing something that he doesn’t understand.
…Honestly, he’s more afraid than you are, and yet he’s going on about how he’ll be the one to protect you? You understand you were probably the weakest of the group, but to see him trying to comfort you while shivering like a newborn fawn made you chuckle, though you dared not to let Weak notice.
But that’s why you wanted a guardian. You looked up at Tomoaki, who up to this point was watching you two freak out at the monsters’ existence in amusement, “What are they?”
“Hilichurs.” He hummed, “They’re not that strong, but they tend to attack people who pass by. Sometimes, they carry food and supplies too.”
“You’re not suggesting we steal from those things, are you?” Weak glared at Tomoaki. Though his voice had calmed down, his body was still shivering uncontrollably, “What if they carry disease?! Do they even know how to properly store food?! I bet most of the things they have are rotten already!”
“Relax.” Tomoaki smirked. “They’re actually pretty good about those kinds of things. Gravity, want to join me fighting them? Seems Weak is too frightened to join us.” He held out his hand for you to hold, but Weak stopped you before you took it.
“Oh, no you don’t!” Weak glared at you. “Gravity, they have weapons. It’s dangerous.”
You blinked at him a couple of times before giving Tomoaki a sweet smile, “Don’t worry, Tomoaki will protect me. Won’t you?”
Tomoaki blushed, and he hid his face with his purple scarf once again, “Y-Yeah! You bet!”
“Plus, Weak.” You smiled teasingly at him, “Just because you’re scared doesn’t mean I am. I can handle this.”
“What?!” He paused, “I’m not scared! I’m just–”
“It’s settled then, come on Gravity!” Tomoaki took your hand and pulled you towards the hilichurl camp, ignoring Weak’s protests. As soon as the hilichurs noticed you two, they showed aggression and started charging at you with their weapons. None of them could get to you however, as Tomoaki cut them down as soon as they were within a 5 ft radius from you. You decided that you’d help by increasing the gravitational force in certain areas to clump the hilichurs together so that Tomoaki could cut them all down in just one swing.
Not even a minute later, you and Tomoaki defeated all the hilichurs. He grinned at you, “Not bad.”
You smiled back, “And your swordsmanship is something to marvel at.” You turned to check on Weak, who was staring at you two in surprise. “Are you okay Weak?”
“... Yeah, sorry. I really was overreacting, wasn’t I?” Weak walked towards you two, hanging his head in shame, “... And I doubted you, sorry.”
“Huh? Oh, don’t worry about it.” You smiled, “I mean, I just helped. Tomoaki was the one who actually did all the work. It’s true that if it were just the two of us, we probably would have been killed.”
Weak smiled at you, weakly, “I guess. I still don’t trust him, but I guess.”
“Huh?! Why not?!” Tomoaki panicked. You wondered if he’d continue protesting, but then the three of you spotted a wild boar in the distance.
After staring at it for a few seconds, Weak nodded with determination, “I’m going to go after it.”
Tomoaki whistled, “Those guys can be difficult. Need any help?”
“No, I need to redeem myself after all of that.” He took a crossbow from one of the dead hilichurs and approached the boar.
You and Tomoaki watched him in silence, but when you saw that there was a substantial distance between the two of you and Weak, you whispered towards Tomoaki, “Can I ask you something?”
“What is it, doll?”
This made the corner of your mouth twitch, “... First of all, please don’t call me a doll. Second… Were you the person who that memorial was dedicated to…?”
Tomoaki glanced at you before looking back up towards Weak again, “... Yeah, I was honestly surprised to find myself with my body again. Pretty sure it was incinerated that day…”
You figured he meant the day he died, but you didn’t want to pry any further. “Well, have any idea how you came back to life?”
“No.” He paused and looked at you, “I thought you did that.”
“I think so too… But…” You looked down at your vision, “...I don’t know how I did it. Gravity isn’t really associated with bringing back the dead… Unless I altered space and time so much that you somehow popped back into existence… But that would take all the energy from the entire universe…”
Tomoaki flattened his eyes at you, “...What does that mean?”
You smiled at him, “It means it should have been impossible. Though, I’m glad I got to meet you.” Though not really for any pure reasons.
Tomoaki blushed, “Ah, thanks…”
“But I have another question.” You smiled, “Why did you decide to stay?”
“Hmmm….” Tomoaki thought about it for a bit before smirking mischievously, “Love at first sight?”
You paused and chuckled nervously, “...Thank you.”
Tomoaki looked dissatisfied at your lack of reaction. He opened his mouth to retaliate when a large Thump! Was heard nearby. Looking up from your conversation, you saw a slayn boar and a satisfied Weak grinning in front of you, “Got it.”
“That’s amazing Weak!” You sparkled, and he seemed even more proud of himself after receiving the encouraging words. Tomoaki also nodded in acknowledgement.
“Not bad. Shall we try fishing now?”
“Oh, yeah.” You agreed. “EM likes seafood more than meat. Speaking of which, if we can find some fruits for Strong since he likes sweet things…”
On the other hand, Weak looked shocked in the background after learning you three had more work to do.
*****
You couldn’t deny that you felt really bad for Weak, watching him struggle to drag the bag of food you three had managed to collect for the day. You were being carried by Tomoaki while he also carried the bucket full of fish too. You could feel your body burning in embarrassment, how could you let someone carry you while your friend looks like he’s having the worst time of his life?
“T-Tomoaki, I can walk. I really can.”
“No, you gotta take it easy, so just let me do this alright?” Tomoaki laughed, though his tone sounded like he was trying to calm down a child, which made you feel even more embarrassed.
“Y-Yeah.” Weak called out to you mid-pant, “W-We’ll do something about your injuries back in the cave. D-Don’t… Worry… about me…”
While you three were collecting fruits, you had managed to fall off the tree you were climbing on, and you hit the ground at fall force. Although you could tell nothing was broken, you were bleeding pretty badly from your legs and arms. The three of you decided to go back, but Tomoaki insisted on carrying you, refusing to take ‘no’ for an answer. Weak agreed with his decision, saying that your injuries could get infected if you aren’t careful.
You kept staring at Weak over Tomoaki’s shoulder, worried that he’d hurt himself. You clenched your fist in frustration. If you didn’t hurt yourself, you could have helped him carry the supplies back to the cave, and Tomoaki would have had an extra pair of hands to carry a bit more. If only you were a bit stronger, then perhaps…
Perhaps Tomoaki felt the distress coming from you, or maybe he just noticed the tightening grip on his shoulder, he looked at you who had your eyes glued to Weak, then brought his lips close to your ear and whispered, “Plus, I like having you close like this. It’s cute.”
You felt your body temperature rise immediately and you glared, “Tomoaki!! Wh-What are you–?!”
“What?! What did you do?! What did he do?!” Weak picked up his pace to match with Tomoaki’s.
While receiving the sharp glare from Weak, Tomoaki laughed mischievously, “Nothing Dad~”
“Dad…?! Oh you’ve done it now…! I swear, sometimes you’re more intolerable than Strong…!”
You blinked in confusion, “But Weak, when Strong broke his leg last year, you were the first to rush to the hospital with him then refused to leave his hospital room until–”
“We don’t talk about that!” Weak glared at you now and you laughed nervously in response. Tomoaki raised his eyebrows at you two but continued going while humming a comforting tune. You glanced up at him, but he refused to meet your gaze.
Did he do that to comfort me…?
You shook the thought out of your head, thoughts like those are dangerous as it could lead to attachment. You looked ahead towards where you were going, fearing that looking at Tomoaki could cause unneeded distractions, when you noticed something strange about the scenery.
“We should be able to see the cave by now, right?”
Your comment made the two males pause, and Weak put down the back of food before rushing ahead of you two. “...That can’t be right, the entrance to the cave should have been here–”
A hand popped out from the stone on the cliffside and grabbed Weak, and all you heard was his frantic scream as he disappeared into nowhere. You and Tomoaki froze in confusion as he slowly approached the cliff side. The two of you examined the stone, when a head popped out of it, making Tomoaki jump in surprise.
It was Electromagnetism, “Hehe! Did that scare you guys? Strong and Weak started wrestling each other inside, so I thought I’ll welcome you two.”
“Electromagnetism! Wh-What’s going on?” You asked her, and with that her entire body came out of the cliff and she clapped her hands together. As if that was the secret signal, the cliffside disappeared to reveal the cave you were looking for, along with Strong and Weak wrestling each other in what you assumed were playful fighting. But you noticed that the cave had a couple of… extra stuff than how you left it.
The walls were covered in computer monitors and the breadboards, motherboards, wires and fuses were scattered across the ground. You widened your eyes in surprise while Tomoaki blankly looked at the scenery in confusion..
“Awesome, right?” Electromagnetism asked, “We were goofing off with our vision while we waited for you guys, when we learned that me and Strong’s powers combined had the ability to make anything we wanted as long as we knew their composition! So we started making a security system for our cave, starting with some security cameras!”
Indeed, after closer inspection on the images on the monitors, you find that it showed the areas outside of the cave. Weak pulled Strong off of him and called out, “Couldn’t you have made desks, or beds, or literally something a bit more useful?”
“Those darn soldiers can come at us anytime you know!” Strong exclaimed as he jumped on Weak, pinning him to the ground. “We gotta be careful!” Weak responded by pushing Strong and flipping him to his back, pinning him to the ground instead. They started to flip each other on their back in a way that made them look like a wheel.
“Guys! Watch out!” You shrieked, but before they listened to you, the two of them hit the stone wall and held their heads in pain.
Tomoaki and Electromagnetism ignored the two, “So how did you hide the entrance to the cave?”
Electromagnetism grinned, “Oh! I used my own vision for that! See, I made these laser and mirror contraption that I placed by the entrance, then using electromagnetism, I placed the photons juuuuust right to make it look like just another wall rather than an entrance to the cave.”
You ran towards Strong and Weak, making sure they didn’t hurt themselves too much. You helped the two up, and when you did, Strong exclaimed enthusiastically, “Next up! I vote to make a mixing station so we can have some cocktails!”
“You gotta be kidding me.” Weak held his head, this time out of disbelief rather than pain.
“Oh, also! We found a kitty! Can we keep him? Huh? Huh?” Electromagnetism held up a white cat towards you and Weak. Weak jumped at what he assumed was a surprise attack, while you stared at the small creature with curiosity.
“Where did you find him…?” You asked.
“Actually, he came to us!” Electromagnetism grinned, “We can keep him, right? Right? Pleaaaase?”
A pair of hands swooped the white cat away from Electromagnetism and the four of you paused in surprise. Tomoaki cradled the cat in his arm, then placed him inside his kimono by his chest, and then smiled to the four of you, “I’ll take care of him, so can we keep him?”
Strong held his hand up, “I vote we keep the cat! And I’m the leader so my vote is final!”
“It’s not like I was against the idea but…” Weak twitched, “...You know what? Whatever. Fine. Keep the stupid cat.”
Tomoaki laughed and scratched the cat under his chin, “Hear that Tama? You can stay too.”
Strong nodded, “Tama? Oh, I love it! Tomo and Tama!”
Tomoaki paused, “Tomo?”
“Yeah, short for Tomoaki. Do you like it?” Strong sparkled. Tomoaki blinked a couple of times before giving an endearing smile, as if he remembered a fond memory.
“Yeah, I like that.”

Tumblr media
You were the first to wake up after the massive party the five of you ended up having.
Glancing outside the cave you all slept in for the night, you saw the sun peeking out from the horizon, shining the ocean below like stars in the night sky. It was still relatively dark, but you assumed it’ll get brighter in an hour or so, then your friends will likely wake up as well.
But what should you do until then? Your mind immediately shifted to your clothing. You felt gross to say the least. After all, yesterday you woke up in a grassy field, sweat from the excessive running, and then collapsed on the sandy beach. Of course your body and clothes were dirty. Perhaps you can find a lake to wash yourself up in, and when everyone else wakes up, you can inform them of the said lake, then perhaps they’ll praise you for the good work you did!
Before you left the cave however, you wanted to check on your three friends plus the new toy stranger you met. If they woke up before you came back, they’ll likely panic and try to find you, and you didn’t want them to waste their energy or make them worry about you like that. Likely for you, they were still sleeping like a rock, and you concluded that they’ll likely stay that way for a long while. After you got the confirmation you wanted, you walked out of the cave to find clean water.
You decided to go towards the direction of where Tomoaki’s memorial was. Truthfully, you wanted to go back towards the city, since you figured you had a better chance of finding supplies there. But not only were you still worried about the soldiers, you did not have the time or the energy to climb up the massive cliff that stood between you and the city. Maybe later on you could find an easier climbing area, or better yet, somewhere the cliff wasn’t obstructing your path. Sadly though, now is not that time.
When you came closer to where Tomoaki’s memorial used to be however, you froze in surprise, and you immediately wanted to run back towards the cave. Right where you met Tomoaki stood a white haired man wearing a kimono with maple prints, he seemed frantic about something, as if he lost something extremely important. You immediately turned on your heel and started walking away quietly, but you were stopped by the voice that the wind carried.
“Who goes there?” The figure called out, and you begrudgingly turned to face him.
“A…. A random traveler.” You replied back, raising your voice just a little to make sure the man in the distance heard you.
The man turned towards you, his red eyes meeting yours. You fidgeted uncomfortably before making your way towards him. It would look suspicious if you ran away now, and if your theory was correct on what this man was doing, then you really didn’t want him to remember you as a threat.
“Can I help you?” You asked with the sweetest smile you could muster up at the moment. This person has the potential to ruin your plans, so you’ll have to make sure he won't get in the way. The best way to do that is to make him believe that you weren’t a threat, or at least you had hoped that would at least mitigate the situation at hand.
“I…” The man paused, realizing that he may have come off aggressive towards you. He took a few deep breaths, calming himself down from his frantic state, and stared at you once more, but this time with composure and dignity, “I apologize for my behavior. I am Kaedehara Kazuha, a wandering samurai. May I ask you something?”
Here it comes. You breathe in a little to prepare yourself, then tilt your head innocently and asked, “What is it?”
“There used to be a… grave… here.” Kazuha looks at the boulder he was standing by, a small panic spreading across his face once again, “With a blade… And an empty vision… But it’s no longer here. Do you know where it might be?”
“Hm.” You hummed, you wanted to at least pretend that you gave him your condolences, “I don’t believe I do… I’m actually quite new to this area.”
The last part was technically not a lie, you came here only yesterday after all. Kazuha looked down in disappointment. After watching his reaction, you assumed he doesn’t suspect you anymore, and you gave a small sigh of relief. But that was when his eyebrow twitched slightly, then it furrowed as he looked directly at you yet again, this time, as if he was staring into your soul.
“...Are you telling the truth? Your breathing changed.”
My breathing? Admittedly, you were caught off guard. To think someone would use your breathing patterns as a way of looking through your lies. You didn’t think that small sigh was enough to give it away, you didn’t think he even heard it! But losing this argument would mean potentially losing the new tool you found, and so you immediately regained composure.
“Well… It’s kind of frightening to think someone touched a grave, don’t you think?” You gave him a sympathetic smile, “...Were they close with you? A friend? Lover?”  You just wanted to change the subject.
“My best friend.” He replies, “That is why I cannot allow someone to defile his grave. I ask you again, you truly do not know anything?”
He swung that conservation back where he wanted… Your heart sighed at your failed attempt but you kept your fake smile up, “I really don’t, I’m sorry… I’ll make sure to keep an eye out for it however.”
Kazuha continueed to stare at you, but after a few moments of silence, he looked away in defeat, “Thank you…” He glanced back at you, this time not at your eyes, but at the gem you had around your neck, “...Your vision, it’s rather interesting.”
You assumed ‘vision’ referred to the gem in question, and now that he mentioned it, he had a bluish-green one hanging off his shoulder, “Oh, yes.” You smiled nervously, “Uhm, I’d rather not talk about it, I’m sorry.” As much as you wanted more information on these ‘visions,’ you figured you could ask Tomoaki later. It would be worse if you slipped up mid-conversation and he starts to question you.
Kazuha looked disappointed, but smiled nervously and whispered “I apologize” before placing the grass hat on his head and walking away, refusing to look you in the eye.
“What will you do now?” You asked without turning towards him, you didn’t want to look him in the eye either.
“I shall try and find my friend’s vision and blade.” He continued walking, “Until we meet again.”
You froze in place for a little while until you were sure that he was no longer in the area, in which afterwards you decided you should go search for water supplies with Electromagnetism and Tomoaki rather than by yourself.
****
As you had hoped, no one was awake when you returned to the cave, so you went ahead and started a fire while also cooking the purple fruit (which Tomoaki told you was called lavender melons last night). Once the warm smell of the fruit filled the cave, one by one they opened their eyes and gathered around you begging for food.
“Tomoaki! So what exactly are these things?” Half way through your nice breakfast with the others, Strong started flicking the vision around his neck with his left pointer finger, while his right hand held the lavender melon he was in the middle of eating.
Tomoaki looked at Strong in confusion, then to the rest of the group including you. You haven’t told them that the gem was called a vision, since you knew you’d never hear the end of Weak’s lectures about how you shouldn’t be acting alone when you don’t even know the potential dangers of this world if he ever learned you left the cave.
“You seriously don’t know what visions are?” Tomoaki asked in surprise.
“Vision? Is that what this thing is called?” Weak asked, holding up his own. Tomoaki examines Strong and Weak’s visions, and his already confused face is filled with even more confusion.
“That’s weird, your visions look… odd…”
“Odd?” Weak questions. Tomoaki took out his vision which he kept on his ponytail, and then showed it to the four of you.
“Whoa! It looks like electricity!” Electromagnetism sparkled.
Tomoaki nodded and he started to tell you four all about visions: where it comes from, the 7 elements associated with it, and the dream that must glow brightly inside you for you to gain one. For multiple times, Strong and Electromagnetism looked like they wanted to interject, but realizing that may come off as rude, they kept their mouth shut. Instead they kept fidgeting with their clothes and fingers impatiently, looking like they were dying to ask him more questions.
“So, what you’re saying is…” You glanced at your own vision, which was emitting darkness as per usual, “Our visions don’t follow the law of this world…”
Tomoaki nodded, “I’ve never seen visions like yours before. They’re supposed to be given by the archons… But at the very least, I’ve never heard of an archon of gravity…”
“And it requires that a god… Or an archon I guess, to give one to the user…” Weak muttered, his eyes staring at his own vision with scrutiny, “As someone from a different world, we shouldn’t have gotten one in the first place.”
“You think so?” Electromagnetism paused, “I mean, if I was a god and some random college students teleports to my world from another, then I’d be like ‘that’s pretty cool!’”
“Maybe it’s because we’re isekaied heroes!” Strong grinned, “So we have to be special! Maybe the gods of our world decided to give us a vision based on the four fundamental forces!!”
Weak held his head, “Ulg, regardless, we’re going to have to look into these visions a bit more. We saw what their potentials were yesterday, but we need to master these powers if we want to get back to our world.”
You smiled, “If we harness the powers of the four fundamental forces, then we’ll literally be able to do anything…! Our goal of salvation might not be far away at all.”
Tomoaki just watched you four blankly, though he didn’t understand half of the stuff all of you were saying, he felt like he would interrupt a moment if he spoke up about it. Instead, after finding a good place to cut you all off, he let out a small cough to catch you all’s attentions, “Well, putting that aside, what should I do? I ended up joining your group for the night, but…”
“Yeah! What should you do?” Strong pauses, “You just kinda came into our life! You’re super helpful though!”
Tomoaki glanced at you, his eyes asking for your help, you smiled and suggested to your friends, “Why don’t we beg him to stay with us? It’ll be nice to have someone who could show us the ropes around here.”
Electromagnetism stared at Tomoaki before clasping her hands together and looking at Tomoaki with puppy eyes, “Pweeeeaaase?”
Strong copied Electromagnetism, “Pweeeeeaaase?”
The two of them looked at you expectantly, and you realized you just set yourself up for embarrassment. Begrudgingly, and with flushed cheeks, you slowly clasp your hands together and looked at Tomoaki, “P-Please?”
Then the three of you looked towards Weak, who gave a quiet “No.” followed by a death glare. You all jolted and glanced away apologetically.
Tomoaki burst out in laughter, wiping the tears off his eyes, “Alright! Alright! I’ll stay! But only until I find someone!”
“Find someone!? Are you in love!?” The one who got overly excited about his proclamation was Electromagnetism. You remembered that she always loved romance novels and movies, and how people in your college always went up to her for romantic advice. Actually, listening to her talk about her favorite ship from a romance novel or her favorite romance movie tropes made you want to date multiple times, but you shot down the idea whenever you realized you hated everyone who weren’t your three friends.
“Oh no.” Tomoaki shakes his head, and although Electromagnetism looked mildly disappointed at this, she still seemed eager to hear about this mysterious person he was looking for. Taking note of her curiosity, Tomoaki continued, “It’s my best friend, we traveled together, though only for a short moment. Heh, he’s probably crying right now because I’m gone, and I wanna cheer him up.”
The image of the albino samurai invades your mind and you tense up. If Tomoaki crosses paths with him, will he leave you? Leave you and your friends in this vulnerable state, without protection? Your tool, your toy, your hope for your friends’ safety…
1   c a n n 0 t   a 1 1 0 w   1 t…
“But anyway, I think the first thing I should be teaching you guys is how to survive in the wilderness!” Tomoaki’s exclamation snapped you back to reality, realizing you were probably lost in thought the whole time Electromagnetism was fangirling about the beautiful friendship Tomoaki and his best friend had (and how she potentially ships them). Though you loved hearing her rant, this time in particular, you were glad you weren’t listening, “Here, why don’t I take two people out to go gather food?”
“Then I’ll come.” Weak stood up from the stone he was sitting on, and Strong looked at him in surprise.
“You? Seriously? Weak, you can’t even walk to the other side of campus without running out of breath.”
“Strong, we don’t talk about that.” Weak coughed in embarrassment, “I believe I should learn how to gather food first since I’m the second fastest learner in the group.”
“The fastest learner is Electromagnetism.” Strong nodded, “Then, you’ll go with her?”
“Aaaah…” Electromagnetism trailed off, “I would… But I don't feel like it.” She then winked towards Strong with a giggle.
“Huh? ....Oh! Ooooooh!" Strong gave an evil smirk and turned to Weak, innocently, “I would come along, but I feel like I’d just end up making fun of you all day without working… Gravity~, can you go for me?”
You chuckled softly and nodded, “As you wish.” You stand up and walk over towards Tomoaki. This will be a great way to spend time with him to gain his trust, while also making sure he won’t find Kazuha while you’re not looking. You gave him a charming smile, “Please take good care of me, okay?”
Tomoaki’s face immediately turned red and he looked away, hiding his face in his scarf, “Yeah, sure.”
He blushed, You noted, It’d be nice if he developed romantic feelings for me, but that might be a bit difficult…
“Alright, like, actually stay in the cave this time, won’t you?” Weak glared at Electromagnetism and Strong, both of whom gave a mischievous smile while promising they’ll behave. Weak didn’t seem convinced, but Tomoaki hurried him and he had no choice but to take their words for it.
