the scene of buck and chris is just making me think back to 5x03 when eddie said that buck takes chris to the zoo “all the time”. they’ve been a family for years, and we know that. but the general audience? they don’t necessarily see all the little details. they don’t pick up on the throwaway lines. when buck said that eddie likes the telenovelas we got that it was probably because buck’s walked in on eddie with maria la del barrio playing on the TV, but the general audience probably thought nothing of it. but today we got that scene. we got to see the offscreen things they usually just talk about. we got to see buck and chris being a father-son duo. and they weren’t just baking, no, that wouldn’t be obvious enough. they’re baking for his class, implying that buck’s active in that sense, too. not just as the family friend who takes chris out every other weekend to fun things like the zoo or the pier. he’s active in christopher’s life in such a parental way. in such a mundane, domestic, everyday way. homework, family dinners, school bake sales, he’s there. and he’s present. they’re setting them up so beautifully as a family in a way that will leave no room for anyone to question what they mean to each other.
