Blue and Yellow San Antonio, Texas -Start of nerdy photography stuff- I am loving the Topaz Denoise software. Noise (visual distortion) is typically caused by low light conditions and is exacerbated by a variety of factors including your camera settings and the way you process the image. I've sat on this photo for a couple of years because it had a lot of it. I decided to run it through the program and it worked like magic! This software cleans up the noise without sacrificing the integrity of the image. I discovered this program while watching Sigma Sreedharan Fine Art Photography's post-processing timelapse of the supermoon a month ago. Kantelen Amsterdam, The Netherlands Amsterdam's iconic narrow canal houses tilt one way or the other. They became prominent in the 17th century among affluent merchants. The skewedness can be largely attributed to the aging wooden poles on which the houses are constructed. Another reason is they were purposefully made to lean forward so when goods are hoisted up using the hooks on the top floor of the house, the products are less likely to hit the house and cause damage. Anu'u Kona, Hawaii Hawaii lives up to its name, "The Rainbow State". Josette and I saw no less than 7 of them during our trip earlier this year. This one coincided with a beautiful sunset and was taken on our first day on Hawai'i, the biggest island of the state. Having lived in big cities my whole life, seeing a rainbow is a rare treat. A double rainbow at that! I have to admit, the pandemic is starting to get to me. A lot of depressing news, not being able to go out, missing being around people dear to me, and fearing for my loved ones takes its toll. At the risk of sounding cliché, rainbows do come after the rain. This photo helps remind me of that. We cannot lose hope that one will come out of this dark time too. Una Tempesta Incombe Su Roma Rome, Italy A storm cloud looms over the Colosseo in Rome. Taken in 2019, it gives me an ominous feeling knowing what has befallen not only Italy but the entire world this year. I have not been to a place as crowded as Rome, packed with locals and tourists enjoying the rich culture and incredible history of this beautiful city. Now, as the city, country, and the rest of the world are trying to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, its streets are unusually empty. But, let us not lose hope. As the Colosseo has withstood almost two thousand years’ worth of storms, it will withstand this one too. As will Rome. As will the world. P.S. The Sky Over San Antonio San Antonio, Texas Hopefully this photo I took last year will give my fellow San Antonians a bit of relief from being sheltered in place. To Brave The Cold Rocky Mountains, Colorado My first time to experience and shoot in freezing weather and the snow. It was very challenging to say the least. My glasses kept fogging due to my mask, frost started to form on my equipment, my tripod froze, and I could barely manipulate my camera. Hiking in fresh snow with high winds without snow shoes was definitely a no-no. While it was rough, I gained experience so I can be better prepared next time. I am very thankful for my wife Josette who really hates the cold and getting up early but she did both so she can experience this with me. She's a trooper and I am really proud she faced one of her fears.
