i just finished red dead redemption 2, and i’ve gotten an overall analysis of arthur’s spirit animal being the deer.

arthur morgan being a deer makes so much sense to me. arthur, as hollow has he was, was extremely weak and fairly fragile. inside, he was always just a boy. arthur morgan didn’t know what he wanted, he never had any sense of freedom of thought, he only wanted what dutch wanted, as he was the only real adult in his life. his baby deer developed and followed the steps of dutch van der linde.

he never knew what he wanted, but, he absolutely wanted love. that’s a definite.

but; every time he fought for and managed to gain love (eg: his past partner and his son, isaac) then it would easily get ripped from him. his mother, his father, his son, and his partners. he feels like he’s a magnet for nothing but trouble, and misery, and misfit. he was defined for his antlers instead of things like his grace and his heart. which is why any, and every time he would gain a form of connection to anyone, or witness someone else attempting to love him, he uses those antlers to push people all the way back, again.

arthur never embraced a single moment of peace. as he didn’t know how NOT to live like this.

the only moment of true peace he managed to receive was the moments he was in nature, not around people who hardly understood that he needed to be approached cautiously, and that inside, he was just a kid trying to make his father figure feel proud. this is why when he climbed to the end of that cliff and led down to take his final breaths, moments like those, those were his peace. nature.

Red dead redemption fucks you up man.

You literally can't do anything the same anymore after playing, I'm sitting in work thinking about my horses and wondering which one I'll ride to die with Arthur - I love them all so much that I wish I could save them all.

I even randomly think about the thimble Jack wants, I have no idea where to find it but nobody at hanging dog ranch has had it in all the times I've raided it.

I think about the sun and the stars, the dusty plains of West Elizabeth and the grasslands of New Hanover, I think about Tall Trees and the canyons of New Austin, the mountains, the snow, the peaceful times camping under the night sky.

And you find yourself yearning for it, despite how awful, unforgiving and unfair the time period was.

You can't go back to those days, it's definitely for the best, you'll lose yourself if you focus so much on wanting something from so far in the past.

Whatever you're yearning for, look for it in your future, your present time, find it and run with it. Life is too short to live in the past, live in the time you have now and thrive.

woohoo little Lance doodle! I’ve barely drawn anything in a long while.

since Lance Week is soon, i figured i can just drop some silly headcanons about my favourite silly guy!

(headcanons under cut!)

(some of these i have actually posted on my old twitter I think? but my account has since been deleted so)

general Lance headcanons:

> headcanon full name is Lancelot Aharon Blackthorn. however if someone calls him Lancelot he’s either going to stare like they just told him the worst news ever, or he’ll try to act like he didn’t hear anymore.

> Blackthorn surname is very fun. i imagine Blackthorn is a name for things in Johto used far too much. those mountains? Blackthorn mountains. the town Lance is from? Blackthorn City. his surname? also Blackthorn. this is just to say the Johtonian government (former Kanjoh government) just wasn’t very good with naming stuff. there was an entire tribe of people inhabiting the eastern mountainous sides of ancient Johto, but the Blackthorn clan specifically was what it ended up getting named after. (perhaps the Blackthorn clan was more prominent? im not too sure yet, but i have a whole lot of Blackthorn fam headcanons if people want more from me about That.)

> It’s obvious now, but I headcanon the Blackthorn clan to be Mizrahi Jewish, so Lance is Mizrahi Jewish. but i also headcanon Lance to be Romani as well (from his dads side). so he’s mixed. what a lovely Jewish-Romani icon. and probably the cleanest man in the entirety of Johto (/j) (see: Jewish and/or Romani historic hygienic habits.)

> So yeah, that up there means that I do headcanon Lance’s mom as the daughter of the Blackthorn elder. but that’s a whole other bag of Dratini to get into.. later.

> Lance is vegetarian. no evidence to my claim, he just strikes me as the type to be vegetarian. (why worry about what meat is and is not Kosher when you can just not eat meat at all? /j)

> to me, Lance is no more than 25 years old. relatively young, but most people think he’s way older, just by the way that he acts.

> Lance is one of those cis guys who is somehow a magnet for trans people. too many trans people are just drawn to him for reasons not even i understand.

> he gauged his ears when he was a teen. he ended up taking them out when he became champion, wanting to appear more “professional”. he was going to make an appointment to have them surgically repaired, but when Silver found out he had stretched ears, she basically peer pressured him into putting his gauges back in. he keeps them now, he likes them.

> he cried a majority of his teenage years for a rhinoplasty and even told his mother he was gonna do it when he became an adult (much to her heartbreak). by the time he came into adulthood, he ended up liking that part of himself again. he used to be very self conscious in youth, but now as an adult, what other think of his face is the least of his concern.

> the scar on his eyebrow is from when him and Clair were kids. Clair was a small child and unintentionally pushed him off the dock of the dragons den. upon falling into the water, an excited Dratini pulled him into the water and he subsequently hit his head on a rock. he had to get stitches in his face. to this day he will bring this up to Clair, and she claims to not remember any of this.

> Lance is actually very emotional, and somehow manages to keep himself together in public. it’s not that uncommon for him to come home and just cry. (see: autism masking , autism and overly empathetic.)

> speaking of: he’s definitely autistic. like there’s no doubt in my mind he’s autistic. however he wasn’t ever diagnosed, he just figured it out after a very.. very long time of wondering “what is wrong with me.” he probably has PTSD as well. lots of it.

> Lance is pretty good at playing the guitar. he also grew up in musical theatre. so, he can sing. his favourite genre of music is typically anything metal, however gravitates to thrash and heavy the most. he can also do proper metal screams, he taught himself this on accident just trying to replicate dragon sounds.

> he actually prefers gold jewelry, and wears mostly gold jewelry. gold cape chains instead of silver cape chains. (no offence, Silver.)

> his main Dragonite is named Angel, and she is much larger than the average Dragonite. Angel is also older than his other Dragonites. she is the one who blasted that unsuspecting civilian at the Mahogany hideout.

> cannot stand the cold AT ALL. it’s not uncommon for him to complain about being cold almost anywhere he goes. it’s that Jewish gene telling him he’s cold /j.

some Dad!Lance headcanons with Silver:

> yay Lance adopted Silver yay

(to me, Silver is transfem, and i will be using she/her for Silver. if this upsets you, I’m sorry I’m not gonna change that lmao.)

> Lance was the first person Silver expressed any possible ideas of being trans to.

> when Lance hinted at the idea that Silver might be trans, she said she “doesn’t care about labels,” and “i don’t care what people call me because none of them matter to me.” to which Lance responded, “and if i called you a boy how would that make you feel”. bad. bad, Silver said. it didn’t take much for her to figure out she just wanted to be a girl instead.

> the custody battle for Silver was long and exhausting, emotionally. despite being the champion of two regions, the Johtonain courts just couldn’t fathom letting a (at the time) single, unmarried, 25 year old man adopt a teen that has many psychological issues. he won in the end because he’s Lance gd damn it, he’s not gonna lose.

> Lance bailed Silver out of juvy and posed as her caretaker to get her out of as much trouble as possible until he became her actual legal caretaker.

> it took a very long time for Silver to actually warm up to Lance in any capacity, that was until one day they found out they share a lot of music tastes. that was the start of the end (father and daughter connection).

> Lance actually had no idea how bad Silver had it until he caught her sleeping outside of the dragons den, that’s when he began to encourage her to sleep inside (much to his grandfather’s disapproval), until she was more okay just sleeping in his house.

> Lance pushed Silver to pursue art and music as meaningful ways to cope with her trauma.

> when Lance inevitably gets married (to who? take a wild guess), it took a lot of convincing her, but he wanted only Silver to be the flower girl. she absolutely hated the idea of ever doing anything like that until the day came, then she got emotional over it because the whole Wow I Have An Actual Family thing.

Lance x Leon / KingCapeShipping headcanons:

> Lance hates any idea of possible “love at first sight” things, and generally doesn’t fall in love easily (trust issues), but Leon was very different for him. it was basically like a love at first sight.

(despite all this being gameverse, i will be using the anipoke battle for my evidence because giggles.)

> how did Lance lose a battle he should have very easily won? easy answer: he was distracted. he fumbled that battle with Leon as hard as he did because he couldn’t really focus like usual. he was so head over heels for that purple haired champ, it basically threw him off his rhythm completely, despite having the type advantage.

> every interaction Lance had with Leon after that battle, he was pretty awkward, he really didn’t want it to be obvious that he had The Feels for someone he assumed was leagues out of his own.

> however Leon thought he was cute and charming the whole time. in fact, talked about him too much to the point Raihan, Hop, and Piers just didn’t want to hear it anymore. say something to him or shut up please.

> in my weird universe that doesn’t make sense, they met sometime before the darkest day. when Leon was in the hospital recovering from said darkest day, him and Lance ended up talking a lot on the phone. they’d talk for hours about whatever, mostly anything. oftentimes the conversation would get personal, but Leon wanted to just call and talk to him at any chance he got. Leon even managed to convince Lance to sing to him once or twice because “i can’t sleep, i need a lullaby please”.

> when Silver put two and two together that Lance had a stupid crush on a fellow champ, she tormented him endlessly for it. naturally.

> my initial confession headcanon changes a lot, so you’re not getting that.

> soon after they became an official item, Lance grew that entire red and purple flower garden for Leon, to show him how much he loves him. yeah, an entire garden. Leon loves flowers so this had a strong effect on him.

> Leon being a trans man and Silver being a trans girl gave them a special bonding opportunity. they’d also collectively make fun of Lance for being cis. because imagine??

> at some point or another, Lance proposes to Leon and they get married. this is sometime after Leon is no longer champion and is the chairman over Galar (said proposal happens in Galar).

> sometime during their engagement, they decide they need to live together permanently because bouncing back and fourth between the distance is too much to bear. Leon proposes the idea that Lance somehow let him be the chairman for the KanJoh region. He eventually pulls this off, much to the public’s dismay to the idea of it for both Galar and KanJoh. however, when Lance isn’t the champion anymore (eventually), Leon somehow is still the chairman. his pathetic husband is going to have to find a new profession.

> ive experimented with the idea of them having a kid together, but unsure how people would feel about me expressing a topic like that. regardless, if this hypothetical child ever does exist, her name would be Rayne.

> bonus: Leon likes to help Silver with her hair and makeup because it’s fun.
