New term booking now!
Our new studio has been up and running for nearly two months now, and we're excited to run another 20 courses for August and September - including some shorter 4-week courses.
If you've ever wanted to learn Ballet, Poi, commercial, contemporary or even Swing, Ballroom Tango or more...click through to register! http://www.irreverentdance.co.uk/register/
We know that taking the step to learn a New Thing is terrifying. Especially if you identify as LGBTQIA or don't think you'd suit a 'mainstream' dance school.
So here are:
5 Ways in which Irreverent Dance works to promote an inclusive dance space
1. We ask every student's pronoun rather than assuming and we educate unfamiliar students as to why this matters/how to do this politely
2. Whatever it means for you, we encourage you to dress how you best feel comfortable. No gender expectations & lycra is strictly opt-in!
3. We do not use gendered/ableist language in our classes Men/Women → Lead/Follow Routine is insane! → Really tough! Hey Guys → Hey Folks (and we encourage our students to think about what substitutions they can make in everyday life, too!)
4. We disallow 'diet talk' anywhere on site and swap potentially body-shaming terms like 'bottoms/tummies in' for more accurate terms
5. Every body in our class is different. You're not going to look the same or be good at the same things as the person next to you...and that's OKAY :) We #CelebrateDiversityNotConfirmity -  bodies are amazing and we should all spend more time enjoying our own!
In conclusion: Never let anyone tell you your gender, experience, body type/shape, skin colour or physical ability rules you out of a dance education.

We're coming home.
We are beyond thrilled to be able to announce that IDHQ (Irreverent Dance Headquarters) is, from today, located on Holmes Road, NW5, a few minutes walk from Kentish Town underground station. You can read our formal announcement here
Booking is already open for those with a kickstarter "priority booking" reward, general booking will go live around 4pm this afternoon - pop along to the timetable here which will start showing those much-anticipated "book" buttons then. But don't delay! Now we're back in control of the process we're wasting no more time and will be back teaching in just a fortnight!Of course we wont be springing fully formed into life, and you'll get to watch the space grow and evolve with us over the coming months. Many more reward packages will be coming out over the next few weeks, and we thank you for your ongoing patience while we struggled through dropped deals and bureaucratic black holes causing delays. In short, this is a beginning not an end, and you can continue to follow along on this harrowing, wonderful, frustrating, exhausting and inspiring journey by signing up to our mailing list (in the footer!), following us on twitter, or checking us out on facebook.

This came into my work today and it made me really happy, because it’s so perfect and there needs to be more of this.
Just think of the little blind kid who’s just learning to read Braille and they find this and think for the first time that something was made special for them, with them in mind, and here it is telling them that there are others like them and that you don’t need to see to still experience all the joys and beauties of the world. That color can be smelt and heard and felt as much as seen. That you are not experiencing the world in a lesser or incomplete way, but just differently, and difference is beautiful.
Bless this children’s book author from the bottom of my heart. Bless.

Literally everything about hermione as a character is made better if she’s black.
Made fun of for hair? Ppl can’t pronounce her name and don’t care enough to try? Casual, overt, and institutionalized racism? Rage over house elves?
Fight me.

Users can now choose any word to describe themselves from “gender fluid” to “trans”
It seems Google+ is going the same way as Facebook and OKCupid, as they now offer more gender options. Will it make you use Google+ more, or at all?

I had the great pleasure today of being the Google doodle artist for Google Canada!  It is for the birthday of Henrietta Edwards, a kickass lady.  See more info on it, and on Henrietta, here in the doodle archive!  It can only be seen on Canadian homepages, but the archive is from everywhere!
