Update

I just wanted to post a quick update about some writing things. I’ve been slowly moving my story inspired reblogs to a different Tumblr account. I wanted to start posting chapters and things on Tumblr. So that account is @indigowritr if you’re interested in following it. It’s a little more cohesive than this account. Since this one was meant to be more like generalized art inspiration and not just strictly story stuff.

However, I am also kind of debating the idea of deleting all of my stories and starting over from scratch. My grandma passed away from Covid last week and I am not handling it well. I went through this last time I lost someone close to me. Where I had the urge to delete everything I’ve ever written and just started over. I did eventually do that and I don’t regret it. So now I’m dealing with that feeling again. I just don’t really have a way to reach every reader to let them know what’s going on. And I’m afraid of just destroying everything because I have lost stories before by doing that. So if I can just move things into drafts, I’ll probably do that while I try and figure my shit out.

I don’t know. I’m just having a rough time and this had really brought out a lot of insecurities I’ve had about my writing. I never wanted to just outright delete things because they’re already up and people like them. And I didn’t want to just take them apart and rewrite them while they’re up.

But I also need something cathartic? So I’m not sure if I’m going to do it yet. But if they disappear, this is my warning. And if I do decide to do that, they will come back. I’ve just been slowly going through things and working on those insecurities and dealing with grief in this very weird way.

So I’m sorry if this is rambling nonsense. I hope everyone is well.

things i did that forced me to be a better artist:

used a reference for everything

thinner line art (you think thats thin? go thinner….)

sketch, then do a cleaner sketch, THEN start finalizing

THUMBNAILS

color research, picking a set palette or light/dark for each work

you like that pose? redo it one more time

USE A DAMN REFERENCE

do not rely on stylization as an excuse for anatomy

draw the goddamn background you coward

just draw the hand- a bad hand is better than a hidden hand

the rule of thirds WORKS

take a considerable break between sketch and lines/paint

know that art takes longer as you get better at it

draw the seams on clothes

stop aiming for accuracy and focus on fluidity and motion, accuracy will come with practice of those two concepts

just…do the chiaroscuro. just DO IT. no excuses it always works

stop making excuses, make yourself an art schedule/set weekly(or daily) art goals and just DO IT.
