Kind of hilarious to me how poorly the title "Mob Psycho 100" localized to English-speaking areas. To someone whose first language is English, it scans as:

Mob (Yakuza, Mafia)

Psycho (violent person with "crazy" behaviors)

Thus: a particularly violent member of organized crime.

But in Japanese it scans as:

Mob (background characters in crowd scenes in manga or anime)

Psycho (short for psychic)

Thus: a psychic who looks/acts like someone you'd never pick out of a crowd scene in a comic.

There is no possible reality where this is in any way capable of being passed off as self-defense. It was never self-defense. It is, and always has been, a genocide.

The way that we learn about Helen Keller in school is an absolute outrage. We read “The Miracle Worker”- the miracle worker referring to her teacher; she’s not even the title character in her own story. The narrative about disabled people that we are comfortable with follows this format- “overcoming” disability. Disabled people as children. Helen Keller as an adult, though? She was a radical socialist, a fierce disability advocate, and a suffragette. There’s no reason she should not be considered a feminist icon, btw, and the fact that she isn’t is pure ableism- while other white feminists of that time were blatent racists, she was speaking out against Woodrew Wilson because of his vehement racism. She supported woman’s suffrage and birth control. She was an anti-war speaker. She was an initial donor to the NAACP. She spoke out about the causes of blindness- often disease caused by poverty and poor working conditions. She was so brave and outspoken that the FBI had a file on her because of all the trouble she caused.

Yet when we talk about her, it’s either the boring, inspiration porn story of her as a child and her heroic teacher, or as the punchline of ableist, misogynistic jokes. It’s not just offensive, it’s downright disgusting.

orchestra aftg au: i think it would be really interesting if the players themselves also played a big part in writing their music? like yeah i just said that all the team nurses and support staff from the books would function as composers/arrangers/just ppl who pick pieces, but i think it would be an important thing for the musicians to be judged on?

so perhaps all the musicians play a decent sized role in the creation of their parts, but they still have staff to notarize, arrange, format, and double check all of their music

orchestra aftg au: some of you mayyy have noticed the instrumentation of the groups seems a little funky. yes, that’s by design. while they’re all called orchestras, kayleigh and tetsuji sort of rewrote the game when they came up with their system? you just need to have skilled instrument players, not necessarily a typical orchestra ensemble. it’s a competition based on creativity, which is usually aided by having a wide range of performers and instruments. they’re not classical orchestras, they’re performance groups.
