My Mom at my first HRT consultation
Yesterday I had my first HRT consultation where we talked about what will be going on in my life when I start testosterone.
The doctor was very friendly but she kept saying that there will always be a way back and that it's never to late to change my mind (she was not being rude and she said that very nice, but she said it like 10 times).
When we walked out of the hospital I talked about this with my mom and she said something absolutly heartwarming:
"Look... People always assume you're so smart. You have so many responsibilities and everybody expects a lot from you. You have made so many great desicions in your live... Then why should I assume that you don't know what you do in that topic? I trust you that you know what you want."
My mom is the best.

"Oder bist du der Typ, der zum Flughafen hetzt, um ihn aufzuhalten? Bist du vielleicht der Protagonist?"
"Ich..." Ich blinzle. "Woher soll ich das wissen?"
"Hier ein kleiner Hinweis." Jacob lächelt. "Es ist dein Leben. Du bist immer der Protagonist."

Loving the theme of books with unbury your gays trope where the characters start off dead and then come back to life through the power of gay

I like this
glass onion had lgbt rep in the way that i prefer: a character is shown to be gay in a subtle yet unmistakeably domestic way, and then nothing romantic happens and we go solve a murder with the power of friendship and violence

This is genius
look, i'm sorry to say it, but if you really truly want to see more queer representation in media, you're going to need to be okay with seeing representation that you don't relate to at all. you need to be okay with media that has queer characters but none who share your specific identity. you need to be okay with media that has queer characters who do share your identity but who you find completely unrelatable. this is because you are not the only queer person on the planet and queer people who are not you, including queer people who you share no similarities with besides your queerness, deserve to see themselves represented.
you also need to be okay with media that shows a queer experience that you personally find uncomfortable. it's okay if you hate coming out stories, but other people find them valuable, so they need to exist. it's okay if you're a masc trans guy and you feel uncomfortable seeing femme transmasc characters, but femme transmascs do exist in real life and also deserve to see themselves represented. it's okay if you're uncomfortable with queer stories that involve cheating or abusive/toxic relationships or queer characters who are not good people, but other people find a lot of meaning in those stories, so you need to be okay with the fact that they exist.
please stop calling out creators—particularly queer creators—for writing queer representation that you don't personally relate to. if you want every queer person to be able to feel represented in media and if you want every queer creator to be able to make the stories they want to tell, you're going to have to learn to accept that some stories will feel completely unrelatable to you, and that's okay, and it doesn't mean those stories are "problematic" or "bad representation"

Tanzania, or as I call it - New Texas.
"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" by Jeff Kinney: formally challenged in October 2018 in Conroe ISD because the complainant believed the main character had a “pessimistic world view” and the story was “contrary to everything Christian, and those of any faith who are seeking morality.” A review committee found it was appropriate.

Haha, omg I am a librarian, and I'm barely asked for book recommendations. I absolutely understand her enthusiasm. Giving recommendations is one of the things I love the most about my job. So yes, please always ask a librarian for recommendations this makes their day :)
So, my childhood hero was a librarian at the library in our town.
The library was probably about a mile from our house, so I’d ride bike there in the summer and spend a few hours reading or looking for books (I was 13 ish for context.) I had pretty severe social anxiety.
So, I’m in the library by myself, and I just can’t find anything to read. I think to ask the librarian, but my brain is telling me “you’d be bothering them” and things like that. I debate this in by head for probably a good ten minutes before I decide to go through with it. It takes me a good ten minutes to walk twenty feet to the front desk.
She’s sitting there, writing on a paper. I stand and wait till she’s done, then say “excuse me” because my parents were very insistent on manners.
She says something along the lines of, “What can I help you with?”
I ask if they have a list of book suggestions or if she has any book suggestions for me.
I’m not exaggerating when I say her face lit up.
She hurries out of her chair and leads me all through the young adult section, giving me some awesome suggestions and asking me about what types of books I like, etc. We spend a good twenty minutes on this. She was really excited about giving me books to read, which made me a lot less self-conscious.
Eventually, she recruits her other librarian friends to also help me find books (there weren’t many people there, they were going to be closing soon) so I’m parading around the library with my librarian entourage, getting book suggestions and having the time of my life.
This librarian helped me more than she realized just by being genuinely excited to help me out. It made me more confident in social situations in the future, and today, I can truthfully say that I can manage socializing pretty well. Her book suggestions were spot on and excellent.
Also, she was talking about this book and described it “like a really well written fan fiction,” and that’s how I got introduced to fan fiction.
Thank you, librarian from the library. And people, never be afraid to ask your librarian for book suggestions.
