I can’t believe this design is almost four years old! Any of you been hanging around here long enough to remember these earrings? They were inspired by that scene in Soylent Green where the crowds of people start yelling ‘The scoops the scoops!’ I know the whole ‘It’s people.’ line is the ultimate quote of the movie, but something about those scoops stuck with me. Tethered. It is such a trip to revisit something I designed/made early on in my self teaching journey. I remember what I wanted to do with this, and how I didn’t have the skill to do it, so I had to find different mechanisms and approaches for keeping things together. As I made this again last week it was a chance for me to lovingly laugh at my old approach, and also reflect on the impact my learning path has had on my design journey. This design exists because I didn’t know what I was doing, but I needed it to be real. It looks the way it does because I couldn’t do it the way I truly wanted to. But now I wouldn’t want it to be any different than the way it is. It’s like a time capsule! Here’s my original caption, had to move that journal entry to the top!
