Being a south park fan is just consistently putting myself through 20 minutes of the nastiest most unbearable shit I’ve ever watched because my little guys are there
I feel like a have a lot of thoughts about South Park and the creators of South Park in general. Yes, while Matt & Trey have always been pro-gay, I feel like that’s sorta… the bare minimum. They’re unapologetic about their opinions past and present, which can sorta be admirable but to me I sorta hate it. There was this Twitter thread I saw posted on tumblr about them mocking the writers strike of 2007(?) and it did seem in sorta poor taste.
Besides that, as a trans person, I HATE south parks stance on trans people, (and lesbians sorta but that’s another story, and isn’t as bad I feel), especially with the more recent-er episode on trans athletes. There’s a good Reddit post and video about it here. I like the South Park characters, I like what the fandom has done with said characters, taken them and shaped them into something more. It’s great. I don’t actually watch a lot of South Park, it grosses me out, I just like the fandom and characters, and unfortunately got a hyperfixation with it. But I don’t like Matt & Trey.
Again, this is all my opinion, so please don’t come and attack me, I don’t think I’d be able to handle it. But I’m always down for further conversation because I’m not very knowledgeable honestly!
Matt and Trey are so funny because they are super problematic, obviously. Like they created one of the most controversial shows ever, and they constantly make really bad faith and incorrect points while rarely ever apologizing.
But they also run a restaurant where they pay the workers $30 an hour and abolished the stupid American tipping system. They have always supported gay people. They usually don’t (or at least didn’t used to, maybe not so much anymore) make episodes in bad faith. They hate everyone equally?
