Please, good human (unsure of gender preference), may I have some headcannons of Leroux!Erik, Musical!Erik, and Charles Dance!Erik with a reader who initiates cuddling with them for the first time? And maybe reader calls them ‘cute’ or ‘adorable’ if they get flustered?

Cuddling and the Phantom

I feel similarly about this as I did pet names. He is not a domestic man, though he may want to be, as shaped by his life experience.

Also, for the musical version Erik, I see him as being too domineering—wanting to control how he touches you. He enjoys the feeling of having power over you, seeing that you’re completely entranced by him more than he enjoys being held by you. In emotional moments, he would appreciate feeling your compassionate touch, but I do not see this being the norm.

As for Leroux’s Erik, I only see this happening far in the future. If you make it past marrying. He was not born in the 21st century. Such an act would be very lecherous and between an unwedded man and woman, not that that stopped people. You may think that he’s above societal norms due to physical deformities and tragic past, but if you examine his character in the book, you will notice that he is still very much a product of society. He is a very traditional man. Even once you do marry him, remember, he has deep-rooted psychological issues. It’s not simply a matter of being shy, but a conflict of self-worth and being wholly unaccustomed to physical affection.

When I see this prompt, the only version of the ones you mentioned that seems viable is the mini-series Erik. Simply put, he seems to be the least fucked of all of them, and I could see him one day settling into a typical domestic relationship if he lived.

However, I also think part of the allure of the Phantom’s character, no matter what version, is his mysteriousness and elegance. I kind of lose interest in the character once I strip these elements from him. Not to mention, you cannot make a man haunted by his past suddenly well-adjusted and capable of a normal relationship. Only he can choose to fix himself.
