Cusco’s Red River is formed due to rain run-off from the nearby Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain. The range of colors in this vibrant valley are a result of the different mineral content on different layers of soil, which have been made visible by erosion. The Red River’s coloring is the result of red sandstone full of iron oxide. This mineral-rich sedimentary rock gets washed off the hillsides when it rains and turns the water a distinct red or pink hue (the exact tone depends on the volume of precipitation). Because it is a result of rain run-off, this red or pink river in Cusco is typically only visible during Peru’s rainy season months. During the rest of the year, the river’s water level is much lower and its color is a more typical muddy-brown hue. If you plan to travel to the Peruvian highlands during the rainy season, visiting Palcoyo’s Red River is an excellent option for a unique day trip in Cusco. (Source)

How do you need to be loved
Tumblr media
like you can love again
you need to be loved in a way that shows you love is sacred, it is divine. you need to be loved so purely, so lightly, so you can learn to love. you need to be loved in the way oceans rise, but also fall. you need to be loved in the way wind rushes through leaves. you need to be loved gently, and patiently, and understanding. you need to be loved in a way that even if you cannot love, you will still be loved.

It aroused a kind of... déjà vu, taking her by her (still small, but somewhat grown) hand and pull her with him.... he just followed an impulse - it was easy to forget that perhaps she didn't need his 'hand' anymore; that she was perfectly capable to stand on and go with her own two feets. But it wasn't Kohaku's purpose to lead her, it was more an unconscious fear of Chihiro's appearance being a strange and breakable dream. He just found her, so he had to make sure, she was real... that she wouldn't disappear. Right?
He gave no attention to the other spirits around the two of them, the expression of his narrow eyes and in the corners of his mouth was a mix of determination and pretended neutrality. Certainly he was far from being neutral. But he wanted to save up these kind of feelings and he didn't want to show them to anyone besides Chihiro.
Kohaku tilted his head to take a look at the girl woman walking next to him. "Sorry.", he responded, even though he didn't sound much like he regretted it. Well, yes, he did not want to scare her, but he wanted to find her, so it probably couldn't have been avoided. "What am I even doing here?", he repeated her question. His voice did not sound upset, but he was amazed how she could not think of a reason, why he would be here. Wasn't it obvious? (apparently it wasn't obvious enough for Chihiro) "I'm not here by happenstance... I've been searching for you, Ch- Sen. I searched for the bodyguard named Sen, because I hoped it could be someone else... that it could be you."
There was much more he wanted to say... to ask her - especially about the reason why she was here. But he felt it would be too much right now. He observed her facial features, now that she put off her mask. "You have changed.", he noted and a little smile darted across his face, light was shimmering in the green of his eyes.

Of course there were times, when you had to ask yourself if you could trust a person or if you had put yourself into a reckless situation. But it was Haku who searched for Sen, not vice versa. So it was probably Sen who should be more careful - after all, he could have been a deceiver… sent out by one of her enemies [whoever they were].
“Enemies…”, Kohaku repeated a low voice, his eyebrows wandering slightly downwards. Provided these enemies knew that they had known each other from their past - and how would they, the two of them hadn’t been in contact since many years ago. Kohaku was just so… disbelieving that Chihiro could be really here; without him knowing anything about it. As if he thought he would have a seventh sense concerning Chihiro. Such an illusion….
As he noticed the sword hanging at the side of her body, then examined her masked features again, he caught sight of the hair-band that tied her brown hair. His eyes became narrower looking at it. There was no doubt, it was Chihiro’s hair-band, the one given to her by Zeniba. “Fine. Let’s go outside.”, he agreed after two more seconds of considering her words. She was right and the way her words met him with a hiss, made her sound serious and urgent enough. Too many eyes around, too many ears. It hadn’t been his intention to put her in any dangerous circumstances.
“I’m sorry.”, he added quietly, giving her a sideways glance, before he pulled her along with him. Outside.
Tumblr media
He pulled her along, and she went willingly. But she was not a child anymore and did not need to be led anywhere. Once outside the large building that had housed the stalls she got groceries from, Chihiro almost went limp in relief. She had to clutch Haku in almost the same way as she had as a child to keep her legs from giving out.
Thankfully she steeled herself and kept herself up right and walking even though she was shaking. The crowds of spirits and Gods were quite small out here in the open. Not at all like they were inside. And of course these were those types that COULD walk in the daytime and still be okay at night. Unlike those in the Bathhouse who were nocturnal. Chihiro was too, for the most part, though on days were she needed to go get something she forced herself to stay awake during the day.
She kept walking and sighed. “You gave me an absolute fright!” she told him, though there was no hint of anger in her voice. “What are you even doing here?” she asked him now curious as she pulled the mask off. The sun was now starting make her feel like she was roasting. So she pulled it to the side of her head, eyeing the Dragon next to her.
SHE had changed as well. No longer was her face slightly pudgy from childhood. But now it was slimmer, more oval shaped. Her brown eyes that could change from light brown to almost black depending on her state of emotions were still the same as they had been before. But she was also taller too. When she had first encountered Haku she had been 1.49 meters tall ( or 4'11" ) but now she was 1.62 meters tall ( or 5'4" ). She wore rose earrings in her ears as well. Her appearance looked to be that of a 17 or 18 year old but she was 21 in reality since she had taken herself out of the flow of time when she came here.

"Have an enjoyable visit." Haku bowed politely, following the blond-haired vampire girl with a slightly curious look. Well, it seemed she would be fine. Then the black-green-haired spirit turned around, observing the arrival of the other guests, which came in a crowd - dancing, rolling, flying and hopping across the bridge to the entrance of the bathhouse. It would be a busy day.... like everyday. Haku stood there like a statue, only moving to repeat a variety of bows and salutations.
The young vampire took a moment to look around before she turned back to the entrance of the bathhouse. "I-Is this place real?"
While the vampire lady had looked around, Haku had taken quick steps, standing -with a distance- before her now. With an emotionless expression (which he mostly put on while working), he observed the new guest. Yubaba had ordered him to await the newly arriving guests at the bridge in front of the bathhouse- and so he stood there in a waiting manner. "It's as real as I am", he answered her question. "It seems you have never been to Yubaba’s bathhouse before." He wondered where she came from. The bathhouse was quite famous in the spirit realm.

It was difficult for Nigihayami Kohakunushi to accept his new situation - a homeless River Spirit, having nowhere to go or stay... wandering around for days and days.... he lost count. It didn't seem to matter.... he didn't care. His heart ached thinking about his unsettled future. His greenish eyes glazed over whenever the unpleasant possibilities unfolded in his fantasy, knotting together until he couldn't see anything at all... and his mind went competely blank. To lose his river was almost like losing his identity. Certainly he wasn't the first one going through something like this, of course not [but the thought didn't soothe the pain]. Koun for example seemed to understand him in a way, because he shared a similar destiny.
Tumblr media
The question Kohaku expressed was gnawing inside, he was scared of Koun's answer, still he wanted to hear it. If Koun saw a possibility that Kohaku's fate would likewise end in... vanishing, he had to know. Prepare for it. With his breath held in [he avoided to look at the God of Luck], he waited for Koun's answer, trying not to become shaken by it. But instead of confirming Kohaku's anticipation, the other took an unforeseen route and the greenish glimpse flickered back to his counterpart. Could Koun be right? That Elementals just kept existing? Kohaku looked down to his hands, as if they were proof that he was still... there. That he would be always there. "Hmm...", he murmured to himself, considering this new prospect. Losing an amount of his power wasn't as bad as vanishing....
He raised his head, still couldn't bring himself to smile; but he felt comforted and that was better than feeling completely destroyed. "You're very wise, Koun. Thank you.", he answered after a few seconds sitting in pondering silence. He liked the way the other god talked about water. Yet he wasn't sure how to do this.... gouging a new pathway. "I will have to find that... strength again. At the moment everything in front of me seems so shrouded in darkness. Why did this have to happen to me? I know there's no answer to that... things just occur sometimes. There's not always a reason in everything. But I think it would be more tolerable if I knew something meaningful is waiting ahead, don't you think?" It was more a rhetorical question, but yet left open for an answer.

“You honestly think I will… just disappear someday, when nobody is remembering me any longer?”, he asked with a strained voice. This thought did never occur to him somehow - he felt a shivering bleakness creeping through his innermost.
Tumblr media
Kohaku River was gone. And Kohaku had been the god of it. The humans might still remember it… but for how long would they? He swallowed and the gaze of his green-grey eyes wandered into the distance. Disappearing. What would that feel like?
Koun…didn’t make a habit of wandering the Spirit Realm. Sure, it ran paralell to the Human one, though a bit…skewed in places, but it really wasn’t one of his favorite places to be. It never had been, which sometimes struck him as odd. After all, he was a God, albeit a forgotten one…but still.
So he did come sometimes. One of such times was now…and he wondered if Lady Fate had a hand in this meeting, or if it was just his own luck wearing down. He’d spotted the young River Spirit wandering aimlessly, lost….and the scent told him everything he needed to know.
Concrete, wood, mixing powder and machine…..Ah….it had caused his core to flutter in ways he’d never understand, and momentarily his nose to scrunch. So they’d gotten to talking. Of course, each of them understood the other was a God in their own right….and maybe Koun was the only one to feel the sort of kinship that came with becoming forgotten….but….
Tumblr media
“…..That might be my fate, but I doubt it’s yours.” he said after a time. They’d been talking, and somehow the topic had landed on his own fate, the fate of dormancy, the fate of that everlasting slumber…..and Koun wasn’t sure but…..a part of him felt that Kohaku was different. “You’re an elemental. You didn’t rely on humans to exist…..Your being didn’t go into guiding them, nurturing them….you just….exist.”
He waved a hand dismissively, too used to talking of his own death….too able to hide his own pain, his own discomfort, his own fear behind a lazy grin.
“Elementals….they’re different than Village Gods like myself. We’re entrusted to guide the humans under us, make sure they live, breathe, impart wisdom and be impartial. You guys? You can just….keep existing. Sure, you get weaker since you don’t have your source of power….but…..it’s not like me.” He paused before reaching down and patting Kohaku on the head awkwardly, his touch hot but not harmful. “….Rivers are ever changing, kid. They move, cut through the land and carve their own paths. If one is blocked, it makes itself a new way. That’s just the way water works. If you don’t have a home, make a new one. I know it’s easier said than done, but you can do it. You’re still fresh, after all.”

She seemed so happy mentioning her family, Haku could not help but smile a bit, too. "A demon, you say...", he repeated, slightly frowning, as he thought about her words. It was long ago since he visited the human world - no, that wasn't right: he had no real memory of ever visiting the human world... since he couldn't really remember who he'd been, before he came to Yubaba's bathhouse. "You were lucky", he mused. "Yubaba told me that some humans with spiritual powers are able to open a door to... here." He didn't think about it before, but was she even aware what he meant with 'here'?

"What's that smell?" Chichiyaku stopped his rant about Aogaeru and sniffed suspiciously into the air near Haku. Near the girl standing behind him. Haku's fingers felt carefully for Emma's sleeve and grabbed it. "Well, I'm sorry, but I am busy. Yubaba's waiting for me.", he told the humanlike frog spirit deliberately indifferent and then he pulled the girl quickly after him, but without being too hasty. Further up the stairs, while Chichiyaku was still searching for the source of that smell. Haku could hear his mumbling, but he didn't look back. They went through different corridors with many doors, until Haku opened one of them, went inside, still gripping Emma's sleeve. Closing the door, he finally let go of her. "This is my room. You can stay here, at least for now. Are you alright? If I find your family, I'll help you get out of here."

There were three of Haku battling with each other inside of Kohaku, when he voiced Sen’s name. The first one wanted to take back the letters which escaped his lips, turn around and never look back, the second one wanted to really make sure that it was not his Sen but a stranger, who just happened to bear the same name [even though it was not the true name of the girl he once knew]. The third was scared and waiting with anticipation at the same time. It was long ago that he felt so many emotions it could make him dizzy.
The woman that reacted to the name was not at all what he expected to see. In his memory Chihiro was still a little girl with a round face and kind, warm eyes. Living in the Spirit Realm, one could easily forget the passing time - it was just not of grave importance like it was in the human world, where every minute was precious. Although he knew that Chihiro should have changed by now, growing older like every human, the picure of the girl that had released his hand [after he told her to not look back, under no circumstance, and seeing her leave the Spirit World across the green grass] was still vivid. But the face of this certain Sen was buried behind a mask, the person behind it taller and the voice didn’t belong to a little girl. However, the hand grasping his felt warm and human and… she (that’s what he was certain of, it was a she) knew about the name that he would still use with strangers or enemies.
To be honest, if he looked into a mirror it would show him how he had changed himself. It was not as if he became a different person, his hair was still straight and of a color which appeared green sometimes, like his eyes, sometimes almost black. Kamajī said Kohaku seemed older; he was right, his features had matured. It wasn’t a deliberate alteration, it happened more on the subconsciousness… a change inside of him that also showed outside. “Sen –”, he uttered gently now, trying to figure out, what was hidden behind the mask. Obviously in vain. “Is it really you?” If she was, she would know what and who he meant by ‘you’. How could he be convinced, while he could not see her face?
Tumblr media
Chihiro shifted her weight onto her feet, the swords at her side swaying in the motion she set. It was obvious she couldn’t say much. Not like this. Internally she was screaming. But thankfully her mask hid that fact. Haku wasn’t going outside. Stubborn dragon! She could see how he had aged in the years that she had left him.
“Yes,” she hissed, “but not here. I can’t take this mask off here. I have enemies!” Enemies that if they knew what she looked like, would easily come and try to kill her. Another good reason for her swords. But she now saw their deaths as swift as a river if they tried it while she was in Haku’s line if sight.
The purple-ish pink hair band that tied her hair twinkled at him as the Sun shone on it. If she was at home there would have been no need for the mask, but since she was out and about this was a different matter entirely. “Can we please walk outside?” she asked him, her voice slightly raised as she looked around them.
Once they were outside it would be easier to explain. It would be easier to get him to her house and allow herself to take the mask off. Or least into the line of trees that blocked a lot of spirits’ curious ( and often malicious) gaze from her back.

"I understand." No, he most certainly didn't understand everything of what Emma told him. He was not knowledgeable in human matters. But what Haku understood, was, that girl had be going through some kind of hardship. Although he wanted to get to know more about the long story [to express it in her own words], it would probably have to wait. After all, Yubaba could call him to her rooms, wondering why he had not executed her order as required. "So as for your family, they are children as well?" Might be an important information for his search. And there was something bothering him [well, more than something]. "You said before, you fell. Do you remember anything about the circumstances?" There definitely was something fishy about it. Magic maybe? Though it was not the first time for humans to accidentally finding a door to the Spirit Realm.
