It was already dark when you and Kelly were on our way back from your parents. It had been a nice celebration. Even if your mother couldn't help but keep Kelly jumping through her burning hoops.
However, you also heard what Kelly said to your mother. That was really brave. Or maybe an act of desperation. But you didn't care. You were just glad Kelly was serious about you.
You prayed that your mother would finally stop testing Kelly.
Even if she didn't admit it, you knew she liked Kelly and actually already saw him as part of your family. But there still had to be a lot of water running down the river before she was ready to admit it to Kelly.
Mike and Debbie were no different back then. Kelly just had to hold on.
So absorbed in your own thoughts, you hadn't noticed that you were almost at home. It had taken barely twenty minutes for Kelly's Camaro to turn onto your street.
Your apartment was in a quiet residential area where next to nothing happened. So you were very surprised when you saw police cars in front of your house.
"What's going on?" You asked yourself as Kelly parked his car.
"I don't know, but there's Antonio," Kelly said casually.
"Who?" You asked, puzzled.
"Gabby’s brother."
"Is that the paramedic who works with Shay?"
"Yes."
Still puzzled by the police cars in front of your house, you nibbled the inside of your lower lip.
What just happened?
A queasy feeling spread in your stomach. Something was wrong here.
"Hey Antonio", Kelly greeted the detective of the CPD amicably when he got out of his car.
You too got out of the car and went up to the strange policeman with a smile.
"Hey Kelly," sighed Antonio and walked over to the black-haired firefighter.
"Is everything okay?"
"No, unfortunately not. Unfortunately, I have to take you with me, Kelly."
"Me? Why?"
Kelly stared at his friend in surprise. What did that mean?
"Susan Hastings was ambushed and stabbed Monday night."
"What?" You said with your eyes wide open.
You couldn't believe what you just heard. Susan had been ambushed. Why? And by whom?
"Oh my god," you said in shock, "that ... that can't be."
"We saw her on Monday at Flanagans," said Kelly.
"So, you admit you met her?" Asked Antonio.
He was more than uncomfortable with this whole thing. Kelly was his friend.
“Sure, (Y/N) and I met up with her friends there. Susan was there too,” Kelly went on to explain.
"Susan Hastings was stabbed not far from this pub," said Antonio, taking a step closer to Kelly.
You couldn't explain why, but at that moment you had a terrible premonition.
"And what does that have to do with me?"
"Your DNA was under her fingernails," the detective stated with a sigh.
“It can't be,” you said in disbelief.
Why should Susan have his DNA under her fingernails?
"But that's how it is. Kelly, you have to come with me. "
With that, Antonio grabbed Kelly's upper arm. But Kelly takes a step back and tore his arm away from Antonio.
Frozen you looked back and forth between the two men with your mouth open. Was all this really happening right now?
"And what if I don't want to?"
"Do I really have to handcuff you?" Said the Hispanic to his friend.
"Are you arresting me right now?"
Kelly couldn't believe what was happening here.
“That must be a mistake. Kelly was with me at Flanagans the whole time," you said pleadingly.
It was a nightmare. Kelly was innocent. He was with you the whole time, didn't even go to the bathroom.
How did the police come up with the idea Kelly, your Kelly, would be capable of such an horrible act? He was a firefighter! He saved lives! He would never hurt anyone! Not even Susan!
"So, you kept an eye on Kelly the whole time," Antonio now turned directly to you.
"No, I ... I ... I talked to Shay, but ..."
Actually, the cop was hoping that you could just give his friend a rock-solid alibi.
But you couldn't.
“Sorry, but I really have to take you with me, Kelly. And please do us both a favor and come with me of your own free will."
"I didn't do anything!"
"Kelly is innocent! He would never do that!" Your voice was loud and almost cracked as you took a step towards the policeman in front of you. You just had to convince him that Kelly was innocent.
It was unbelievable for you what just happened here. How could the police come up with such an absurd idea?
"Would you please step back, ma'am!" Antonio was more than tensed.
He also didn't think Kelly had anything to do with this. Still, he had a job to do here. He would have been very reluctant to arrest you for 'resistance to state authority'.
You felt like you were in a nightmare. What on earth was playing here?
"Now, would you please be so kind as to get in the car, Kelly?" Antonio asked slightly annoyed.
He didn't like this whole situation either.
"I didn't do anything," Kelly said in your direction when Antonio put him in the back seat of the patrol car.
"I know that, Kelly," you said in a choked voice.
Shocked and with tearful cheeks you watched the patrol car as it slowly disappeared into the streets of Chicago.
You couldn't believe what had just happened here. That could not be true. Kelly would never harm anyone. Not even someone like Susan.
Not even after what she'd done to both of you.
You were so shocked that you couldn't feel your own body anymore. What should you do now?
You needed help.
Kelly needed help.
Just before a panic attack could overwhelm you, you looked for your cell phone with shaky hands. It took three tries to unlock the screen. Now you dialed the only number that occurred to you.
"Mommy."
"Oh my god, baby. What happened."
Your mother knew immediately from the sound of your voice that something terrible must have happened.
"Kelly was arrested," you managed to say before you collapsed, shaken by sobs.
---
"Look, I'll say it again, I have nothing to do with the attack on Susan Hastings."
Kelly had been sitting in the interrogation room of the Inelligence Unit for a full hour, trying to explain to a bad-tempered Hank Voigt that he was innocent.
"Then why was your DNA under her fingernails?"
"I don’t know. That must have happened in Flanagans."
"So you admit that you saw the victim that evening."
“I never denied that. But I've got enough witnesses to confirm that I didn't leave the pub until just before eleven. Together with (Y/N)."
"Your girlfriend. And you think that's a good alibi? "
"It's the truth!"
Kelly felt like he was trapped in a nightmare. No matter what he said, Hank twisted Kellys every word.
How could those cops, who had known him for so long, believe he had done such a thing?
"You can still have followed Susan in between, stabbed her and then went back to Flanagans."
“Serious?” Kelly couldn't believe it.
"The Riverwalk isn't far from the pub. And you're athletic. It would be a breeze for you to leave the pub, follow Susan, stab her and then walk back into the pub unseen."
Hank was so engrossed in the DNA found under the victim's fingernails that he didn't allow any other perspective.
"How many more times do I have to say it, I didn't do that. It wasn't me," Kelly repeated desperately.
Before Hank could continue the interrogation, the door to the interrogation room opened and a tall older man came in.
He was slim, but looked like he did exercise regularly. And that didn't mean golf.
The business suit he was wearing looked very expensive and was probably made to measure. His silver gray hair was perfectly styled and his lips were graced with a smug, winning smile.
He gave Kelly a friendly nod, and then turned to the sergeant of the Inelligence Unit.
The man placed his expensive-looking black leather briefcase on the table.
"My client's interrogation is over."
"And you are?"
"Martin Vail, Mr. Severide's attorney."
"Mr. Severide didn't mention anything about a lawyer."
"He didn't need that."
"Mr. Severide didn't ask for a lawyer. "
"He didn't have to either."
“Who sent you, Mr. Vail?”
Hank didn't like the man in front of him. The guy was definitely an excellent lawyer. Far better than a simple firefighter could actually afford.
This man must have charged huge sums for his work.
“You don't look like you're loitering in a police station looking for clients”, Hank continued, “someone with an expensive suit like you wear usually has a different clientele. Or do you want to tell me in all seriousness that you only ended up here by accident."
Martin Vail was undeterred by Hank Voight's condescending manner. He had dealt with far more dangerous people.
"Whoever sent me shouldn't be your concern, Officer," he answered confidently and with a smile.
A blind man could have seen that Hank couldn't stand this lawyer. Especially after that insult.
"Sergeant."
“I'm sorry, Sergeant. But as I said, this interrogation is over. Mr. Severide and I will go now. I wish you a pleasant evening."
Mr. Vail had no intention of spending another minute in this police station. He had a job to do. And he was good at it.
With a confident smile, he motioned for Kelly to follow him.
"Oh, and if you should need a statement from Mr. Severide, please contact my office. My secretary can be reached tomorrow from eight o'clock. You can then make an appointment with her."
"Don't think this thing is over yet. We'll get what we want," Hank growled. He didn't even think about accepting anything from this lawyer.
With that said, Mr. Vail put his business card on the table and left the police station with Kelly in tow.
Kelly had been overwhelmed with what had happened in the last hour. He hadn't even considered contacting a lawyer.
Although, he didn't know a lawyer either.
Normally he should have gone to his union, but he didn't.
Kelly didn't know what was going on, just that this man was definitely not a union attorney.
It wasn't until he was on the street that he got to exchange his first words with this man who was apparently now his attorney.
"Mr. Vail. I don't know who sent you, but thanks for getting me out of there. "
"I am not the person you have to thank, Mr. Severide. I was just doing my job”, the lawyer said kindly and pointed to a car on the other side of the street before saying goodbye and leaving.
Kelly couldn't believe what he was seeing there. Or rather who.
Saoirse, your mother, was standing in front of a black SUV. She apparently seemed to be waiting for him.
The black-haired firefighter couldn't believe it. As if in a trance, Kelly crossed the street to your mother.
"Thank you so much for the lawyer," Kelly began, "but frankly I have no idea why you want to help me."
Saoirse eyed Kelly for a moment before she smiled and put a loving hand on his cheek.
“I think you jumped through more than enough burning hoops. You're family, Kelly. And I protect my family. Cost what it may."
“What the police say ... I didn't do it. I am innocent. You have to believe me."
"I believe you. That is why I am here. But now we should hurry. (Y/N/N) is already worried sick. She is waiting for us at home. "
Kelly looked at your mother with tears in her eyes. In the darkest hour of his life, your family came to his aid. He's never been as grateful as he was at this moment.
"I don't know what to say ... except ... thank you."
“You don't need to say thank you, Kelly. As I said, you belong to my family."
---
You paced up and down in your parents' living room, completely frightened. You couldn't believe what happened today. Not only was Susan nearly killed, but Kelly was arrested for it.
How the hell did these cops come up with such an absurd idea?
You finally stopped biting your nails when you were sixteen, but at that moment you just couldn't stop the urge. You had already bitten the thumbnail of your right hand until it couldn't get any shorter. And by now it was bloody. But you didn't feel the pain. The shock of tonight's events had you numbed you.
You felt like you were trapped in a nightmare. Not only was Susan in the hospital badly injured from being mugged and stabbed. Your boyfriend was also accused of being the culprit.
"(Y/N/N) please calm down. Everything will be fine,” your father tried to calm you down.
"Everything will be fine?” you turned to your father while your voice cracked, “Dad, Kelly has been arrested! How do you want everything to be fine again?"
“Martin will take care of everything. Besides, Kelly is innocent. We all know that. The police will hardly put an innocent person in jail."
"In America innocent people have already been executed," you said bitterly and gave your father a withering look.
"Now don't get overdramatic," replied your father with his hands raised soothingly.
"Dad I ...", but you got no further.
Because at that moment the door opened, and your mother came in with Kelly in tow.
"Thank god, Kelly," you whispered with relief as you walked over to him and hugged him desperately.
"I didn't do what they say," Kelly whispered almost tonelessly as he pulled you tight.
"I know."
You lay in each other's arms for a few moments, infinitely grateful that you could now.
"Neither of us thinks for a second that you have anything to do with it, Kelly," your father assured the black-haired firefighter.
The two men shook hands as the two of you broke your hug.
"Unfortunately, the police don't see it that way," sighed Kelly tiredly.
"(Y/N/N) made coffee," began your father but didn't get very far.
Your mother had put her hand gently on his shoulder and was now looking at him with loving eyes.
"My dear, I think we could all use something stronger than coffee."
With a knowing nod, your father disappeared for a moment, only to come back with a bottle of Jameson Gold Reserve and four glasses.
Silently he filled the glasses and gave one to each of you. Kelly and you sat on the couch while your mother sat across from you.
"Now what," Kelly wanted to know when he took a sip of the whiskey in his hand.
He felt so infinitely tired, as if today's events had sucked the life out of him.
“For now, you two will stay here,” your mother stated before she turned to you, “we will prepare your room. There is enough space for both of you."
"Seriously," you looked at your mother in amazement.
“You don't really think that I will let any of you out of my sight, after what happened today. As far as I know, the police should protect the innocent, not arrest them. I can't believe how inept these people are."
Each of you could see how upset Saoirse was right now.
And Kelly noticed for the first time what it felt like to be part of such a family.
"Dear, the police will see this mistake," your father tried to calm his wife down.
"And until that happens, I'll make sure that these people leave Kelly alone."
"How could they even identify the DNA under Susan's fingernails as yours", you said thoughtfully, while you held your glass to your lips.
"Everyone who is employed by the city is stored in a database with their fingerprints and their DNA."
"Why", you wanted to know.
"It's been like this since 9/11," your father explained, “in case that ...”
“… in case you find too little to identify someone.”
Silence spread over you like a heavy velvet blanket. Everyone had their own thoughts before Kelly sighed deeply.
"And what do we do next," he wanted to know, "I mean, the police won't just leave me alone like that."
"Quite simply," replied your mother, "we will prove that you are innocent."
"And how?"
"Let that be my concern," said a voice from the background.
Martin Vail entered your parents' house unnoticed. Your father immediately rose to greet him. Martin has been your family's attorney for ages. In fact, he was already more of a friend than an employee.
"Martin," your father began, "will you have a drink with us?"
"Yes please," he replied as he sat down, "don't worry Mr. Severide. The DNA traces under the victim's fingernails were tiny and could have gotten there with any touch. We'll also find witnesses to testify that in fact you did not leave the Flanagans."
"And they think it's so easy to convince the police," Kelly asked almost anxiously.
Tonight's events made him doubt that it would be that easy.
"Well, Mr. Severide, ..."
"Please call me Kelly. Mr. Severide is my father."
"Okay ... Kelly ... since you have an alibi for the time for the attack on Susan ... and no motive ... I would say that the police will now also see that you are innocent."
"Well," Kelly began hesitantly, "there was something that might be interpreted as a motive."
"Tell me about it."
Kelly hesitated.
"We can also talk about it privately if you prefer, Kelly."
"No, that's not necessary. Everyone here knows about it."
Martin sighed and leaned over to his client encouragingly.
"Kelly, I'm your attorney. That means I'm not only your best friend, but also your father confessor. Remember, anything you don't tell me will be used by the other party to break our necks."
Kelly nodded thoughtfully.
"And if there's one thing I hate, it's losing a case because I didn't know all the facts."
And so, Kelly told the story of how Susan had managed to ruin their relationship with this perfidious plan she had spun.
"Well, if the police are desperate enough to make a motive out of it - especially since you two seem to be happy with each other now - they should start looking for a new suspect. Don't worry Kelly. Even if it looks like a hopeless situation for you at the moment. It's not that bad. I'll fix it."
However, Martin felt there was something else Kelly didn't want to say here. It would probably be better to dig into his past and discuss everything else in a more private setting.
"But for now, I'll say goodbye. Kelly, I'll see you in my office tomorrow morning."
Kelly stood up too and held out his hand to him.
"Thank you very much for your help, Mr. Vail."
“Saoirse told me you are family. So please call me Martin."
"Thanks Martin."
“I’m happy to do it. And just some advice for the future, Kelly. If a police officer ever questions you in an interrogation room, just say one word."
"And that would be?"
"Lawyer. You have my number now."
With a smile and a friendly slap on Kelly's shoulder, Martin Vail said goodbye to you and your parents before disappearing into the night.

It was exactly six in the morning. The sun already announced that it would be another glorious summer day. The birds that had built their nests in the trees along the road in the spring are already chirping their wonderful melodies. Hardly anyone was out on the streets and so the settlement in which the Astoria apartments were located was quiet and calm.
It was a wonderful morning and no one, however gloomy, would have thought what beast had gone on a raid yesterday.
A beast that had found a taste for it after its first attack.
But there was still nothing to be read about yesterday's attack in any newspaper.
At this point, the investigation was still in its infancy. Apart from the fact that it was not unusual that there were knife attacks in Chicago.
Even the Intelligence Unit and their extraordinary sergeant had no idea what abysses would open up in their city in the near future.
The city lay there peacefully - almost too peacefully - and still slumbered.
It almost seemed like the calm before the storm that no one had a clue about.
Everyone who was in Flanagans yesterday would have loved to enjoy this peace longer today; and maybe even slept in.
You too; if it weren't for that piercing beeping of your alarm clock, which now violently woke you up.
It took you a few seconds before you understood where you were and what was attracting attention so loudly.
What day was today anyway?
Tired you lifted your head and felt for this devil thing to silence it before you tiredly threw back the covers and sat on the edge of the bed.
Every fiber in your body screamed for more hours of restful sleep, but your sense of duty was stronger. After a long stretch to wake up your muscles, you yawned heartily and rubbed your eyes.
You tried hard to wake up, at least to the point where you could start the day without major accidents.
Still drowsy, you turned your head and looked at Kelly, to whom you gave a loving smile. He lay there, still resting peacefully in Morpheus' arms. Kelly was still so far away that he hadn't even noticed that hellish noise that your alarm clock had just made.
You watched him for a moment. You were so incredibly happy with him.
Kelly was on his back, breathing deeply and evenly, looking so peaceful. You would have loved to snuggle up to him, but work was waiting and since you were the daughter of the company founder, you had to set a good example and be one of the first to appear in the office that day.
No matter how tired you were at the moment and how much you would have loved to have stayed at home today. But duty called.
You got up quietly, got your clothes for the day out of the closet and snuck into the bathroom. You didn't want to wake him up. His night had been as short as yours.
Your first way led you into the shower, where you tried to awaken your spirits with cold water. Still infinitely tired, you wrap yourself in one of her fluffy bath towels and brush your teeth.
The woman - who looked at you from the mirror - looked more like a raccoon than a human. Dark circles like the ones you just had couldn't be normal.
With a meaningful smile, you had to think about last night and the reason for those near-black shadows under your eyes before looking for your concealer.
You didn't want anyone to see you like that; and after a few minutes of painting, you looked better and fresher than you just felt.
With a look that is still slightly transfigured, you put on your business outfit. You sincerely hoped that you didn't have to unexpectedly go to the container port today to solve any problems again. Another day like yesterday and you couldn't guarantee anything.
You couldn't stand these prepotent Neanderthals who called themselves dock workers for another day. Otherwise these guys would - with absolute certainty - sooner or later drift as corpses in the lake.
Still not quite awake you went into the kitchen to fill up the coffee machine. What the cold shower water couldn't do, maybe a strong coffee - with a good helping of caffeine - could do.
Like a starved cat in front of the display of a fish shop, you looked longingly at the coffee pot, which was now slowly filling itself with that black gold, for which every fiber of your body was screaming.
You started smiling again. Even if Kelly was still asleep, the knowledge that he was here with you was simply indescribable. You never wanted to do without this feeling again.
A quick look at the watch on your wrist told you that it was almost a quarter to seven.
Damn it, you really had to go.
Today it was going to be a coffee-to-go, and you couldn't forget to wake Kelly up.
For a moment you thought about whether you should really be that hasty and give it to him. Or whether it would be better to wait.
On the one hand, you didn't want to rush anything - or, in the worst case, scare Kelly off - but you still wanted to show him how serious you were about your relationship.
You bravely went to the top drawer to the left of the refrigerator and took out something small, silver. Then you took a sticky note, wrote a short text and placed both next to the coffee mug that you had prepared for Kelly.
---
It was already light when Kelly opened her eyes, still a bit sleepy. The sun shone tentatively through the curtains and painted plays of light on the opposite wall. With a smile he registered that he had spent the night with you again.
Now he knew your bedroom better than his own.
First he stretched extensively. Kelly had no idea what time it was, only that he was still infinitely tired.
He thought of last night with a mischievous smile. Not only did you two fit together as if you were meant to be together forever; You two harmonized in bed in a way that was hard to describe.
Even he found it hard to believe, but he had the best sex of his life with you.
He turned his head sleepily and looked at the other side of the bed. He had hoped to find the woman of his dreams still there, but you - it seemed - had got up some time ago. Your side of the bed was cold and almost certainly had been orphaned for a long time.
Confused, he propped himself up on his left elbow and listened to the supposed silence of this apartment.
To his relief he heard how busy you were in the kitchen.
He looked at the clock. Damn already a quarter to seven.
In a little over an hour he had to start work in firehouse 51.
He loved his job, but was it really just a job?
For Kelly it had always been more of a calling, as if he had been chosen to be a firefighter before he was born.
Still exhausted, he got up and pulled out his things. The little sleep from last night was now taking its toll. Kelly desperately needed a strong coffee. When he got his things together, he disappeared into the bathroom - this morning it would be more of a cat wash than an extended shower.
Less than ten minutes later he also entered the kitchen, where you were just about to fill your large take-away cup with this seductively scented black liquid.
You wore gray linen trousers in pinstripe optics and a petrol-colored sleeveless silk blouse whose collar was decorated with a large bow.
Kelly thought you looked just gorgeous. Even after the short night.
For him, you were the most beautiful woman in the world.
"Morning," he greeted you, still slightly sleepy.
"Good morning," you replied with a smile that made the sun rise in his heart.
"Why didn't you wake me up?"
Kelly had leaned against the counter while he watched you put the coffee pot back and screw the lid on your mug.
“You slept so peacefully. I just couldn't bring myself to wake you up. "
"So you would have just disappeared like that?"
"Don't worry, I would have woken you up before I left," you grinned with a mock exaggerated roll of your eyes.
"When do you have to go?"
"Five minutes ago," you said a little hectically after looking at your watch.
"If you wait a moment, I'll come with you."
"No, I really have to go," you said with a smile, gave him another kiss on the cheek and you were almost out of the door, "just lock up when you go."
You had shouted the last words to him from the anteroom, where you had grabbed your blaser and your handbag before the apartment door slammed loudly behind you.
A somewhat confused-looking Kelly was left alone and looked back over the whole thing.
Did he just miss something?
What did you say ?!
He should lock up?
He didn't have a key, how could he ...
But then he discovered it. A single lonely key that lay on the counter next to a prepared coffee mug in front of him.
Under it was a yellow sticky note on which you left a small note:
Don't panic! Just thought it makes sense if you have one too. Love you 😊
Ordinarily, that would have been when Kelly might very well have panicked. In the past he would have run away instantly.
But he felt neither panic nor fear. There was just that wonderful tingling sensation caused by thousands of butterflies in his stomach.
He looked silently at the silver key and a smile played on his lips.
The two of you were serious, he could no longer doubt it. Even if it was already clear after visiting your parents.
You had not yet discussed whether you should look for a place to live together. And that key certainly didn't mean that Kelly should move in with you.
Still, Kelly couldn't imagine anything better than falling asleep next to you every evening and waking up next to you every morning.
He loved you and wanted to spend the rest of his life with you.
Was it a little early to share an apartment?
Your apartment wasn't small, but it was a bit too cramped for two people. He shared his own apartment with Shay.
Well, at least somehow. After all, he was hardly there anymore.
Perhaps it was soon time to think about whether you should look for something of your own.
Maybe you saw it similarly?
Or was Kelly rushing things in his euphoria?
He had never felt this way before and was in completely unfamiliar waters.
In his fear of being able to do something wrong, perhaps even rushing this matter, he panicked a bit.
Maybe Shay had some advice, even if it wouldn't be easy for him to leave her behind. She was his best friend, but it was time for him to move on.
He loved you and the next logical step in your relationship would be a home together.
The housing market in Chicago was huge. There would definitely be something suitable for you. Somewhere in a well-kept location, maybe with a small garden, he knew how much you loved nature.
Again he had this picture in mind, the one that he had already seen at your parents' brunch. You playing in the garden, with children, your children, your own children. He liked the idea and wished nothing more than that this would be your future.
---
It was late afternoon and everything had been quiet on firehouse 51 so far. Maybe a little too calm. There hadn't been a single mission, even the ambulance hadn't even been out today. The two paramedics passed their time with the long overdue inventory, and the remaining firefighters watched TV or played cards.
Kelly was lying on the bed in his small private room in the fire station dormitory, staring at the ceiling. He was grateful for the break in what was otherwise a very stressful job.
So he could think in peace about you and the key that you left him today.
"You're okay, Kelly," Shay asked as she joined her best friend.
“Yes, of course, everything is okay. Why do you ask?"
"Because you hardly spoke more than ten words today."
"I'm just tired."
"I believe that you are tired, but there is something else. Come on Kelly, you know you can tell me anything. "
Kelly took a deep breath and sat up before speaking again.
"(Y/N) gave me a key to her apartment this morning."
"Okay ... and now you panic."
Kelly didn't say a word. He just looked at Shay.
What should he have said? In the past he would have reacted in a panic with absolute certainty, but now everything was different.
Shay checked her best friend before she understood what was going on.
"Oh my God. Are you thinking of moving in with her? Wow, I ... I can't believe it. (Y / N) has done what no one has done before. She made a whole new man out of you. Respect!"
"Do you think I should talk to her about it?"
"That would be a good start," Shay said with a smile.
Kelly looked sadly at Shay.
"And what about you?"
“Please don't worry about me, Kelly. I think anyway that there would be someone who would like to take over your room. "
"But what if (Y/N) says no?"
"Just talk to her about it."
“But what if I want too much too quickly? If I make mistakes? I do not want to loose her!"
"Listen to your heart, Kelly," Shay tried to calm him down, but she noticed how panicked he was getting at the thought of losing you again.
"My heart?"
"Yes, what does it tell you?"
“I want to be with (Y/N). Always, every minute. It ... it is as ... "
"... as if she were part of you. She is, just as you are part of her. You two just belong together. "
"Do you think she would ..."
“Kelly”, Shay laughed, “do you notice that you are worrying about the wrong person? The problem here is not (Y/N), but her mother. Only ask (Y/N) about a shared apartment when you know how you want to approach her mother in order to convince her of this idea. "
---
It wasn't Sunday, but you and Kelly were invited to your parents' home. It was Kathy's birthday. Your sister's eldest daughter turned seven today and the whole family got together to celebrate.
The children played loudly in the meadow, while the adults stood together in small groups to chat a little after the extensive banquet.
You and Shannon were doing the dishes in the kitchen with your sister-in-law Debbie. Jimmy and Brian were busy cleaning the grill.
Kelly had noticed that your mother Saoirse had been avoiding him all evening.
How the hell was he going to befriend this woman if she wasn't interested in getting to know him?
Every time he sought her around, she was suddenly terribly busy or had to discuss something with one of her children.
Did she really dislike him?
No, this could not be. He had to talk to her.
To dampen his nervousness, he took another swig of his beer before going to the woman who seemed to be in charge of this family. If he wanted to build a future with you, it would only work if your mother would agree.
“I know you don't like me very much,” he began in a calm voice when he stood next to her, “and frankly I hope that this will change at some point.”
Saoirse looked at the black-haired man as if she couldn't believe that he actually had the courage to speak to her.
“Believe me, I'm ready to jump through any burning hoop you will hold in front of me. Through every single one of them. I love (Y/N). I will do whatever you ask of me so that you will accept me on (Y/N) ‘s side. Believe me, I love your daughter and I want to be with her. For the rest of my life."
Saoirse raised her right eyebrow and looked at Kelly for a brief moment.
"Okay," she said before she got something to drink with a smile.
Kelly was left alone, staring after your mother in disbelief.
What did that mean?
"You have to admit Saoirse, the boy really has the guts to face you like that," Brian said to his wife with a little smile after he had stepped up to her.
"I was also surprised."
“Come on, Saoirse. You expected that, didn't you? "
"Perhaps."
Brian looked at his wife for a moment before he had to smile.
"You like Kelly, admit it."
“I don't admit anything. But he ... he's nice, "Saoirse replied casually.
"Nice? Don't be angry with me, dear, but in my opinion (Y/N/N) couldn't have found a better man. "
"I never said otherwise, Brian."
Your mother had raised her hands soothingly while your father crossed his arms.
"Okay, and when exactly are you going to get him out of his misery? I mean, Saoirse, seriously. You and I know that in Kelly you've long since seen something like your son-in-law. "
"I won't confirm that ... but I won't deny it either."
---
Since the attack on Susan, the detectives of the Intelligence Unit had hardly paused. The victim's entire life had to be examined, both professionally and privately.
While Alvin was making a list of names to be asked about Susan's life, Antonio phoned forensics.
The young woman was seriously injured by her attacker. The surgeons had fought for their lives for hours. Now she was in an artificial coma in the Med's intensive care unit. Her life was still hanging by a thread.
"DNA was actually found under Susan Hastings' fingernails," Antonio began with a sigh.
"Is there already a hit?" Asked Voight, who had stepped into the door of his office.
“Yes, but not with the offenders. But in the database of the CFD."
Antonio's voice sounded depressed, as if what he had just heard on the phone worried him.
"A firefighter?"
"Yes. But not just anybody."
"Who?" Erin wanted to know and stared spellbound at Antonio.
"Kelly Severide."
“Impossible,” interjected Erin, “that can't be. Kelly certainly has nothing to do with it."
"But it was his DNA under Susan's fingernails," Hank said.
“Hank, you know Severide. He would never do that," Erin argued, "Folks ... you know Kelly ... he didn't do that."
"Isn't he that firefighter who was once investigated for rape," asked Mouse, who had just got himself a coffee.
“Yes, but the victim lied at the time. None of that had ever happened,” Jay jumped up to defend Kelly.
"Get him," Hank grumbled and was on his way back to his office.
"Hank, it wasn't him," Erin repeated, "just like he wasn't back then."
"I said 'get him'," Hank's voice echoed through the building, "and if you have a problem with how I'm running the investigation on this case, Erin, you're welcome to go home. Do you understand? The same goes for you Halstead! "
"Yes, sir."

Emptyness.
Silence.
Blackness.
Darkness.
Who was she?
Where was she?
What happened?
She felt light-headed, dazed, numb. As if she had drunk too much; or taken the wrong pills. Could it be that someone had poured something into her drink? But how could that have happened? She was always so careful when it came down to it. Besides, she hadn't been out alone. Yes? No?
She couldn't remember.
Actually there was nothing anywhere, neither in her head nor around her, absolutely nothing.
No sound, no smell, no feeling.
She felt no joy, no sorrow, no love, no despair.
There was simply nothing, just this all-encompassing absolute nothing.
The young woman was neither frightened nor worried. It was just smeared like butter on too much bread. She was there, and yet somehow she wasn't.
She stared dazedly at the black night sky above her. Nowhere was there a single star to be seen, even though the sky was cloudless. She simply looked into absolute emptiness, into a nothing that she slowly threatened to devour.
Not even the moon seemed to wander over the dark firmament that night and its familiar light did not illuminate the world around her or her soul at that moment.
But the young woman didn't care. Her head was empty and hardly a thought ventured into the glittering surface of her calm sea of thought.
Except for one.
What the young woman couldn't understand at the moment was why on earth she could see the sky? She had never been interested in it, not even as a child.
So why was she looking at it?
She felt strange. Almost like a puppet with the strings cut.
Could it be that she was lying on the floor?
But why?
What happened?
Where was she anyway and when?
Susan tried to find a memory in the deep abyss of her soul, one that told her why she was lying on the ground and looking at the nonexistent stars.
But she didn't find any.
She didn't know anything.
Neither where she was, nor when. What time of year was it anyway? Certainly not summer, because then this cold would not inevitably take hold of her.
Something must have happened, but what? Why was she lying here and looking up into the endless expanses of this black night sky? Unable to take a single clear thought, she dawned from one swoon to the next.
"Blood pressure eighty-seven to thirty-nine, and keeps falling."
Who said that?
Again the young woman lifted her eyelids, trembling.
She still had the feeling that she had been packed a meter thick in cotton wool. She couldn't move and felt nothing, absolutely nothing. No pain, no touch, not even the floor, which almost certainly had to press against her back. There was only one thing she felt, and that was this strange, rising cold, which took hold of her more and more.
“Damn it, she's losing too much blood. She needs more fluid. "
"The guy must have injured the spleen, hopefully he didn't get an artery."
Where did these voices come from that seemed to reach her ears from so far away?
Almost as if it were just an echo of a distant place, a past time, a past life. But who were these people whose voices she heard again and again as if through a fog?
Who did these voices speak of?
Could it be that she was meant?
Susan was unable to remember what had happened, even with the best of intentions. Could it be that she had been in an accident or had been mugged? She tried to speak, wanted to ask what was going on, where she was, but the only thing that left her throat was a scratchy and dull moan.
"Take it easy. Can you hear me, Susan. Stay with us! You have to fight! Can you hear me? Fight! "
The CFD's two paramedics tried their best to get her patient into the ambulance as quickly and stably as possible. The blue gloves they wore were already smeared deep red with Susan's blood. In the dim lighting of this nightly crusade, however, it looked more black than red, almost like liquid pitch.
The compresses of the pressure bandage were already soaked and the two paramedics knew that every second was important.
A puddle had already formed under the young woman lying on the cold floor in front of them. A few minutes ago she had been ambushed by an unknown man and stabbed with a hunting knife.
As soon as they arrived, the two experienced paramedics took care of the gash that graced Susan's left side. They did what they could, but the more blood she lost, the more her patient's blood pressure dropped. In the meantime, she was given liquid as a bolus through two access points. But she wouldn't hold out much longer.
The Chicago Med knew that a critical case was on its way to them. The doctors waited. Everything was prepared. Now it was only up to the will to survive of this young woman who had been ambushed and stabbed in the streets of Chicago.
It was thanks to a number of extremely fortunate circumstances that Susan was still alive at all.
It almost seemed as if fate would want to give her another chance to give her life a new direction. So that these golden scales, which awaited her at the end of her life and on which her heart would be weighed, might then be in balance after all.
To save the salvation of their souls.
Fortuna had given Susan a smile that night.
The first officers of the CPD arrived here shortly after the attack. On the one hand, the patrol car had been on patrol nearby, and on the other, a young couple who had just returned from a romantic walk on the Riverwalk had witnessed the attack and immediately called 911.
It was actually just a coincidence, but one that saved the life of the young woman who was now strapped to a spineboard and loaded into the ambulance.
Not far from the scene of the crime, a large, matt black SUV was parked at the same time, the blue light of which was constantly flickering. A man got out, in his early fifties, brown hair, his temples already a little gray. He had bright brown eyes in which you could clearly see that he wasn't thrilled to have to show up here and now. He wore dark jeans and a dark brown leather jacket with a black T-shirt underneath.
Sergeant Hank Voight watched the ambulance briefly before joining a detective from his team who was just finishing up hearing the first witness. The detective was about the same height as his sergeant, with black hair and dark eyes. He was wearing a dark blue shirt, black jeans and also a leather jacket, although his was gray. He couldn't hide his Hispanic American roots with the best will in the world and his forehead was currently adorned with a deep wrinkle of worry.
"Hey Antonio," he heard the dark and rough voice of the head of the intelligence unit.
"Hi Serge!"
"What do we have?"
“Woman, early thirties. Puncture wound in the upper abdomen. She is stable for the time being. She's being taken to the Chicago Med. Her name is Susan Hastings”, the detective read all the important facts from the small notepad in his hand.
"How did this happen?"
“A man attacked her and stabbed her. However, the handbag, wallet and cell phone are still here. "
"Then it was probably not a robbery."
"Seems so."
"Where are the others?" Asked Voight, looking around.
The onlookers slowly gathered. It was always the same and it disgusted him. But maybe they were lucky and the perpetrator was among them to see his work.
“Lindsey and O‘ are about to question the witnesses. Halstread is in the med, waiting for the victim to arrive. He monitors forensics."
"And where the hell is Ruzak?"
"No idea. Mouse couldn't reach him. "
Hank Voight's enthusiasm that he and his Intelligence Unite had been entrusted with this case was more than limited. However, this was requested by all the highest levels, as the attack took place in one of the hippest neighborhoods in this city. After all, the politicians had to make sure that the rich and famous of this city could feel safe.
That brought them money and votes.
But what seemed to upset Voight even more at the moment was that one of his employees was nowhere to be found. Apart from the fact that he had imagined his evening to be different. The call from Erin had come at the worst possible time, but the woman at his side understood why he had to leave.
To serve and protect!
That was the motto of the Chicago Police Department, and that is exactly what Sergeant Hank Voight would do, regardless of casualty. He would protect this city and everyone in it.
And with every means at his disposal.
He'd forgotten that in the past. When his wife died he had lost the ground under his feet, had done things that he should have left behind. He had gone too far, way too far, even if he had convinced himself to do it for his son Justin, it had been more than wrong.
Hank Voight had to pay for it. But fate had given him a second chance. Not only that, he had found a new love too. This time he would do everything right. And he would answer for the sins of his past for the rest of his life.
He didn't mind.
That was exactly the reason for this fire that burned inside and drove him on and on. Sergeant Hank Voight and his Intelligence Unit detectives would find and hunt down the man who nearly killed this young woman.
---
Despite all the fears, the evening was really great and you finally had the opportunity to get to know Kelly's best friend better. You were thrilled by the blonde paramedic who hopefully would soon be one of your closest friends.
It was just after eleven when you and Kelly got back to your apartment.
It wasn't exactly big, after all you lived here alone, but it was cozy. And for Kelly it was something like his second home. Even if you spent almost every free minute together, you hadn't talked about moving in together, but the black-haired firefighter already had a change of clothes and his own toothbrush with you. After all, he's already spent more time here than in the apartment he shared with Shay.
While you were going into the living room, Kelly locked the door behind him.
Without paying attention to what it would do for him, you slipped your top over your head and threw it a little carelessly on the couch. Shortly afterwards you disappeared barefoot, but still wrapped in your tight jeans, and in that seductive black lace bra, in the bathroom.
The tall man's piercing blue eyes followed you and only one thought dominated his whole being. He slowly followed you and watched you while you removed your subtle make-up and shortly afterwards buried your freshly washed face in one of the fluffy towels.
He watched your every move, which was reflected in the wonderful play of muscles on your back. This longing in his chest was unbearable and so he gave in to this inner urge and went to you.
Without saying a word, he lovingly put his hands on your upper arms, while he began kissing you at this point behind your ear, before he worked his way down your artery.
You closed your eyes with relish and leaned your head back, busy savoring every single one of his gentle touches down to the last bit. You had to go to the office early tomorrow, but you didn't care at the moment. What this man made you feel was beyond words.
Slowly you turned to him and looked deep into his wonderful blue eyes, in which you could see so much love. You put your hands on your boyfriend's neck and pulled him down to you. When your lips met, your body was already on autopilot. All you wanted now was this man. You wanted to smell him, taste him, feel him. Very deep in you.
Kelly couldn't think clearly either, this woman who was now in his arms drove him crazy. He loved you more than anyone else who had ever been before you. He picked you up, and before he left the bathroom with you on his hips, you had your legs wrapped around him.
As soon as you arrive in the bedroom, you free your firefighter from his annoying clothes before he helped you out of your jeans. Now he was working his way up your thighs with nibbling kisses.
You were no longer able to form a single clear thought, you were too busy trying not to lose your footing in this vortex of sensations. You felt how he worked his way up, inch by inch, and when he was almost at your most sensitive point, he paused to carefully slide his fingers under the waistband on either side of your panties. So that he can then gently free you of this last piece of cloth. You instinctively raised your pelvis and Kelly gently stroked your legs as he pulled off your black lace-trimmed panties.
Now he started all over again to work his way up the insides of your thighs with gentle kisses and you enjoyed every little bit of this unspeakably tender torture, even if it almost drove you crazy. In the meantime you had to cling to the sheets to avoid getting lost in the passion you were in at the moment.
Kelly also enjoyed taking you to the edge of madness so much. He had noticed how your thighs had started to shake as he got closer and closer to the goal of his little journey. It cost him an almost superhuman strength not to lose himself in this situation now and here.
Kelly now knew exactly what to do to make you melt in his hands like ice on a hot summer day.
When he began to caress you where all women would like to be caressed, you couldn't help but moan. At this touch, however tender it was, but the intensity of which was equivalent to an electric shock, your body reared up from every wave of pleasure.
Your whole body seemed to melt and trapped in this vortex of lust you couldn't tell exactly where your body ended and Kellys began. He brought you closer and closer to this cliff, only to bring you back a bit, just before you would have plunged into this relieving feeling. Slowly and deliberately his lips wandered up over your stomach and when he had reached your breasts he took one of your nipples gently into his mouth and began to suck on it rhythmically.
The place between your legs acknowledged this sensation with an involuntary response. Trembling with pleasure you had started to moan unabashedly and Kelly was now slowly working his way up with the tip of his tongue to the point where he had started this lovemaking.
You no longer knew who you were, nor where. Swept away in a wave of passion, you buried your nails in Kelly's back.
This touch caused the firefighter to press his groin against your pelvis. You have been more than ready for him for a long time and you are waiting for him warm and wet.
You wouldn't be able to endure this torture for much longer before you finally lost your mind.
With a knowing smile he leaned down to you and covered your trembling lips with his. He finally seemed to feel sorry for you.
By the time he finally took possession of you, your body was so on autopilot that you didn't even know your own name.
You only felt him. His gentle lips on your neck while he took you with harder and harder thrusts. It didn't take long and you came hard with a curse on your lips. But Kelly was far from finished with you. A few more curses would escape your lips that night before you would fall asleep blissfully in your boyfriend's arms.

Kelly's gaze was fondly on the two most important women in his life. The two of them were laughing and having a good chat.
One was his better half, his sister, his family.
The other his girlfriend, his future, the great love of his life.
He never would have thought that there would ever be someone he would love so much. But then you stepped into his life and changed everything.
You changed him.
A few weeks ago everything was different. If Kelly thought about it, he had been no different from Susan in his wild years. He too had probably slept his way through half of Chicago. But since you came into his life, there was only you.
You were the only woman who still existed for him. Your love was all he needed, all he wanted.
He never would have thought that he too would be lucky enough to find that one person who would suddenly change his whole world. That he would find the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Nothing and no one could change anything about it.
From now on it was just you two against the rest of the world.
You were the one great love of his life. He was sure of that.
"I never understood why the two were friends at all," Lucas pulled the tall firefighter out of his thoughts, "I mean, they are even more different than day and night."
“(Y/N) is someone who only ever sees the good in a person. That is exactly what makes her so special."
“Yes, but unfortunately (Y/N) is always exploited and injured as a result. This girl is just too good. "
"She's perfect," Kelly concluded in a whisper to herself.
"But we did an elegant job with Susan," laughed Lucas before taking a sip of his beer, "we won't see her again anytime soon."
"Hopefully."
Kelly was still looking over at the two women and could hear your bright laughter while you were talking to Shay.
"Well Kelly," said Lucas, patting him on the shoulder in a friendly manner, "we two will have to take good care of our little one in the future."
"We will."
You didn't hear about the Susan thing. You were standing at the bar, whiskey in hand, talking to Leslie Elizabeth Shay, the woman you thought was Kelly's girlfriend for a while.
She was so much more than that, she was his family. The only family he'd had so far.
You liked the blonde woman and were glad you finally got the chance to befriend her. Except for this one meeting at the lake, you haven't really run into each other yet.
Shay was funny, friendly, gracious, and always up for a laugh. You two had a great conversation. You were on the same wavelength and slowly Shay understood why Kelly liked you more than everyone else before you.
The blonde paramedic is now convinced that he had never loved anyone before you as much as you.
Kelly had called Shay when he finally managed to convince you to meet your friends at Flanagans. He had asked her to come along in case Susan should show up, and Shay had immediately said yes.
She was your moral support, so to speak, and you were more than grateful for that.
Leslie was also happy to finally get to know you better. After all, she had never seen Kelly as happy and balanced as he was with you.
You were just the yin to his yang.
“Incredible, no wonder Kelly wasn't exactly comfortable facing your family. I mean, how many are you?"
"Not so many. My parents, my siblings, their partners, the kiddies," you began, counting with your fingers, "all in all ... with me .... twelve."
"Twelve? And you claim you are a small family? Dear, small family means mother, father, child…. so three, not twelve!"
Shay was almost speechless, now she understood Kelly's reaction to his compulsory attendance at this weekly family brunch.
“Believe me, we're really small for an Irish family. After all, I only have two siblings. My cousin in Dublin has five. "
"Well, I imagine Christmas to be funny," Shay said sarcastically and took a sip of her beer.
“First of all, imagine if I were in her place,” you interjected, “she only has brothers. What do you think, what kind of minefields Kelly would then have to overcome. Thank god I only have one. "
"And your mother."
"Oh yeah. Poor Kelly, she won't make it easy for him,” you laughed.
"Doesn't she like him?"
"What? No, I do think she likes him. But apart from the fact that I'm the youngest of my siblings, Mum didn't make it easy for Mike and Debbie either when they were brought in by my siblings. But now Mum looks at them both like their own children. Even if she sees Kelly differently at the moment, she accepts him by my side, and that's worth a lot. "
---
Susan couldn't believe what had just happened. This firefighter had dumped her as ice. She had expected something like this from Lucas.
But not from Kelly.
How on earth could it have happened that this little Irish girl was with him again. Your reaction a few weeks ago when this story began was more than straightforward.
Susan would never have expected that her action would backfire so badly.
But that was clearly you at that bar.
You were by the side of this man again, whom Susan still desired.
But now this blonde witch wanted revenge much more than Kelly. She wanted to see Kelly suffer.
Susan knew of Kelly's wild past, also that he had already stood before the internal affairs. At the time, a paramedic had accused him of rape.
Surely it would still be possible to capitalize on that.
His reputation was already scratched and given his previous way of life, who would ask exactly? That she would destroy not only his life but yours as well was a nice bonus.
Revenge was sweet after all and whoever laughed last laughed best, as is well known.
Deep in her own thoughts, she ran down the street looking for a taxi. That day clearly seemed cursed because there wasn't any of those damn things to be found anywhere. Susan was getting angrier, at Kelly, at you, at herself, at the rest of the world.
Angry at everything and everyone, she just kept going. At that moment she was so hungry for revenge, she would have sold her soul to the devil just to make this fireman and his little slut atone.
How on earth could it have happened that she was now a loser? And was exposed to the laughter of the others on top of that?
The blonde woman went on and on.
Desperate for a taxi, she hadn't noticed the shadow that had followed her since she'd left the Flanagans.
The man followed her constantly at a distance of ten meters, watching her every move. He waited. That one long-awaited moment would come soon, this night, this hour.
An inexpressible anticipation flowed through every single cell of his body and left a wonderful tingling sensation.
He had been looking for her for so long, but now he had found her. This woman he wished he had never met. This damned femme fatal, with her long blonde hair, this stunning figure and her very special way of wrapping everyone around her finger just so she could get what she wanted.
Not so long ago she had wanted him and got it. It should have been a harmless adventure, nothing more, nothing less. Just one night in which he could forget everything that had made his life so difficult at that moment.
It should have just been lust, passion, sex.
Without obligations.
He had enjoyed it, every minute, every inch of her body. But if he had known what curse had lain on that one night and what the consequences would be, he would never have got into that taxi with her. Then he would never have come into her apartment.
She had taken everything he had owned, everything he had ever loved. He had lost everything. His wife, his children, all of his possessions. Now it was his turn to take what she loved.
Her life.
He clutched the knife tighter and tighter in his jacket pocket. He had bought it especially for the occasion. In the little gun shop on the hundred and third.
It had been recommended to him. For hunters it was the best knife currently available on the market.
He had bought it without hesitation, after all he was a hunter too; and this blonde woman in front of him is his prey.
When Susan stopped at the big intersection near the Riverwalk, she had given up hope of a taxi for good. Still mad at God and the world, she rummaged for her cell phone. Then she just had to order a car through UBER, why else had she installed this app? Just a few clicks later and a driver from this service was on the way to her.
He had watched her typing on her cell phone.
Time was running out.
Now or never.
Slowly he stepped out of the shadow of the house wall and approached the woman whom he hated more than any other woman who walked in this world. She had taken everything from him, now it was his turn.
He was still clutching the knife tightly as he slowly took it out of his jacket pocket. A moment later, he pressed it against his thigh to soften the tremor in his hand. The adrenaline was pulsing through his veins at that moment and he felt absolutely intoxicated.
Would that be the anticipation of what would follow?
Step by step he approached this blond devil until he was right behind her. The smell of her perfume rose slowly into his nostrils. It was the same as that damn night that had cost him everything.
He inhaled her scent deeply, he wanted to savor every single second of this encounter. The outcome of this meeting was as inevitable as the sunrise on the morning of each day.
Only then did Susan realize that someone was right behind her. Abruptly she turned to this man and took two steps backwards to put some distance between the two of them.
"Get lost, you ass," she hissed at him, she was far from having any desire for beggars, junkies or other scraps.
But the man, who was not much taller than herself, didn't move a muscle.
He wore a black hoodie with the hood pulled down over his face and dark jeans. Over it he had pulled something that was vaguely reminiscent of a US Army raincoat.
Susan didn't think about it any further. If this guy didn't want to go away, he might as well be used as a victim on whom she could vent all her pent-up hatred.
This guy would soon wish he had never run into her.
She couldn't have guessed that he really wanted that.
"Do you remember who I am," he asked in a calm, almost whispered voice.
"If you are not the lottery fairy, you can leave right away!"
"Were there so many that you can't remember me?"
"What do you want? Leave! My evening was shitty enough without you,” Susan replied angrily and her anger could be heard in every single word she said.
"But I can remember you, every little thing,” the stranger whispered.
"Well, who cares."
"Me."
"But not me, so piss of!"
"You little whore took everything I ever owned from me," said the dark figure gloomily and threateningly.
"Whore? I think I misheard", Susan screamed and her voice cracked, "you little wimp. You can disappear right back into the hole you crawled out of!"
That was enough.
In one jump he was next to her and slowly sank the polished, glistening silver blade into the flesh of this young woman.
The feeling he had at that moment was indescribable, as if it wasn't the knife, but himself, who just went deep into her. It was impossible for him to put these sensations into words as he inhaled their scent and he felt a satisfaction that he had never thought possible.
Even his lips escaped an almost lustful moan.
Susan hadn't expected any of this.
She stood there and tried to understand what was happening here.
The pain in her stomach was hard to describe, like someone pouring liquid fire into her.
What was happening here?
She stared into those black eyes that seemed familiar to her from the depths of her subconscious. It took a few moments before she could move again, look down, and see where this searing pain was coming from.
It could only be a bad joke now.
Was it all really happening right now?
Slowly she took a step back and saw how the man opposite her was holding a knife, the blade of which was now slowly leaving her body.
No, it just couldn't be true.
Just before she slumped, she saw a victorious smile that graced the lips of this still unknown man. One that the men only gave her when they experienced this special moment between Susan's heated thighs.
---
Even though it was well after nine, Erin still had that damn paperwork to deal with. She had no choice. Tomorrow, punctually at ten o'clock, the whole file had to be at the prosecutor's office to finally get this damn rapist where he belonged.
In a four-square-meter cell in Stateville.
Luckily for her, Al had agreed to give her a hand, otherwise she wouldn’t be finished with the file by sunrise. The others in the Intelligence Unit had long since left for the evening. So the two detectives were alone in their rooms on the first floor of the 21st district.
Even Hank Voight had left the office before them today, something that was very, very rare, but Erin and Al knew why. After all, the two of them knew their sergeant better than anyone else, having been friends for years, they were like family. Therefore, the two of them knew about this young woman, who came into his life a little more than six months ago and has since become more and more a part of his life. She had achieved something that no one had done since Camille. She had won the heart of that old growler, and faster than Hank had probably realized himself.
The two detectives were processing the files in silence when Erin's phone rang loudly.
"Detective Lindsey !?"
Al glanced up from his paperwork and immediately noticed the change in Erin's facial expression. Today they couldn't handle that damn paperwork anymore.
"Understood, we are on our way," she ended the phone call and immediately turned to Al, "a young woman has just been found, a stab wound in the stomach."
"Well then, let's go."
"I'll call Hank."
Al looked at his colleague in amazement. Not sure if that was such a good idea.
“Didn't he want to meet his new girlfriend tonight? He will not be enthusiastic about this disturbance!"
"Do you want to skip Hank, Al? No problem just let me know!"
"So that he is mad at me then? No way, "Al laughed briefly, while Erin had already grabbed her cell phone and dialed the number of her sergeant.
"Hank? Sorry to bother you, but we have a case. A young woman was stabbed near the Riverwalk", Erin explained as she followed Al down the stairs to her car, "okay, yeah, see you at the scene."

"Will you finally tell me what's wrong with you today?"
Kelly sat a little helplessly on the bed and watched you stand in front of your closet. You were in more than a bad mood looking for a suitable outfit for the evening.
He didn't know you like that.
You weren't always in a good mood and jumped across meadows with a happy song on your lips, but Kelly had never seen you as mad as today.
Although ... there was an incident where you were more than angry at him. But he didn't want to think about that anymore.
Susan's intrigue was in the past, and that's where it was supposed to stay.
Still, something must have happened that upset you so much. But why didn't you tell him what happened?
"Nothing. Everything is oaky. Why ", you said shortly and a little snippy, before you disappeared into the bathroom.
Kelly looked after you with raised eyebrows. What on earth was going on right now?
Nobody would have believed you, especially not the man who got up in silence and followed you.
Something had happened today, he had no doubt about it.
But why don't you talk to him about it?
Could it be that he had something to do with it? That you were so mad because he was supposed to get to know your friends today?
No, it couldn't be that. After all, considering his meeting with your family at brunch yesterday, you had remained absolutely calm.
What was wrong with you?
Kelly leaned against the door frame, arms crossed in front of his body, while he watched you stand in front of the mirror and vigorously brush your copper-colored hair.
“Okay, please tell me what's going on now. But this time try the truth."
You put the brush aside, propped yourself up with both hands on the sink and looked at Kelly from the mirror.
You were so angry you wanted to scream.
He was still looking at you questioningly. He couldn't have known what casual remark from Lucas had managed to ruin your mood.
“Yesterday I faced your entire family and you were the calm yourself. Even in view of the fact that your mother caught us more or less red-handed last week. Today we just want to meet up with your friends and you freak out like you're about to have a heart transplant. "
You were still looking at your boyfriend in silence, but had started to nervously nibble your lower lip.
Kelly slowly came up to you and put his hands lovingly on your upper arms without breaking eye contact with your reflection in the mirror.
"What's up, babe? Talk to me. I thought you were looking forward to seeing Lucas again. Actually, I should be the one who's nervous, not you. After all, today I'm going to be put through my paces again."
You still didn't say a word, just looked down and stared at the floor in silence.
"Hey, did I do something wrong? If so, please tell me. Because I have absolutely no idea what is going on here. "
"What? You? No, you ... you didn't do anything, "you said quickly and turned to Kelly.
"And what is going on then? Why are you so mad?"
You took another deep breath and looked around the room for help.
You didn't really want to talk about it - never again - but before he blamed himself for your behavior, it was better to tell Kelly.
"Susan."
"Susan," Kelly repeated, still busy trying to figure out what you were alluding to.
"Yes. Lucas said she would come today too. And with the best will in the world, I have no interest in running into this woman ever again. "
Only now did the firefighter understand what this was really about.
Susan was actually your best friend - or at least she used to be. Before this - let's call it an incident.
Susan lied to you just to tear Kelly and you apart. And all because of her jealousy, once not being the center of attention, let alone getting the man.
It was no wonder you were angry.
Just the thought of having to face that fake queue tonight had ruined your mood. You were absolutely tough in business and no one could upset you so quickly, but in private life you were nowhere near as self-confident.
"And if so. Just forget about Susan. Just delete her from your life. Besides, there will be so many people there today that we can easily avoid her. "
"I always thought we were friends."
Kelly took you comfortingly in his arms and kissed the top of your head.
"I know, but some people are just not meant to be friends for life."
"Yes, maybe you are right. Still, I'm angry. I would love to give her my opinion. Or really return the favor for her meanness."
Sadly, you clung to him and buried your face in his chest.
Kelly understood what was going on inside you. The time of your separation had not been an easy one for him either.
“I know revenge is no solution,” you sighed, “actually I don't feel like going to Flanagans at all anymore. Can't we just stay home? "
Revenge was never a good idea. Even Confucius once said that whoever embarks on the path of revenge should first dig two graves.
But he didn't want to let the matter rest that easily either. He thought for a moment about everything you had been through because of Susan's intrigue before a mischievous smile played on his lips.
"I think I have an idea."
---
The Flanagans was well attended this Monday. However, that was no wonder either. There was a hurling match today. And apparently no Irish living in Chicago wanted to miss this, and so had found their way to Flanagans.
People stood tightly packed together, drinking, laughing, cheering, discussing the moves. Others voiced their opinions loudly about how they couldn't do better if they could dictate the game's tactics.
When Kelly walked into the pub with you, you initially had some difficulty finding the others. However, you knew your friends more than well. So it was clear to you where you would find them.
You had to make your way across the crowd, to the other side of the bar. Because of the hustle and bustle, that wasn't as easy as expected. It took a few minutes to get to your destination. And less than ten seconds later you and Lucas were in each other's arms. You hadn't seen your best friend in what felt like an eternity.
You had neglected him lately. Now there was just another man in your life that you no longer wanted to do without.
"Seems like we're finally complete," said Lucas with a friendly smile.
"Almost", you said, "one is still missing."
Lucas looked at you briefly and wondered if you really meant Susan.
However, there were now more important things that the blonde Irishman had to take care of. After all, he had to first put this man to the test who had managed to win you over.
"So you're that firefighter who took my best friend away from me," Lucas began as he eyed Kelly questioningly.
"Guilty," the tall man replied with an almost cheeky grin, revealing the small gap between his front teeth.
"I'm warning you," said Lucas, shortening the distance and looking threateningly at him, "if you break this woman's heart, I'll break your neck and make it look like an accident."
“Ha,” laughed Kelly, “you have to get in line. Jimmy threatened me with that yesterday. "
Lucas looked at Kelly for a moment before the Irishman's expression changed completely and he grinned at Kelly just as mischievously.
Kelly wasn't wrong about Lucas. Both men were cut from the same cloth.
"Perfect. Now that we've got that sorted out ... I'm Lucas. I take it you have a beer, Kelly? Hey Sam ", Lucas called to the bartender," the same for everyone, a beer and the usual one for (Y/N)."
"Hey redhead, thought we'd lost you," said the man behind the bar to you.
The bartender was tall with black, slightly curly hair, broad shoulders and warm brown eyes. He was wearing a black t-shirt and a tattoo could be seen flashing out from time to time on his left upper arm. With his stunning looks, he could have all the women in this bar if he wanted.
However, what made this man even more dangerous than his looks was his charm. He was the type of man you should never trust your girlfriend to.
What very few people knew, however, was that Sam was happily married and, in addition to a loving wife, could also call two wonderful children his own.
You knew that, you were the godmother of his eldest daughter. Nevertheless, the two of you enjoyed flirting with each other in a playful and carefree way, without ever thinking of anything serious.
“Oh come on Sam, you know I'm like weeds. I keep coming back. "
Kelly looked at you lovingly.
There was no longer any trace of the uncertainty that had plagued you just over an hour ago. You were just yourself, kind, bright and just amazing.
Fortunately, you had told Kelly about your relationship with Sam, otherwise the jealousy would probably drive him crazy now.
It was a great start to the evening, you enjoyed yourself and Kelly had fun too.
Even if Susan showed up sometime today, Kelly had made sure that she couldn't ruin your evening. And maybe she would get the pay she deserved.
Kelly had done what every firefighter did when he needed help. He had organized reinforcements.
He didn't have much time to think about it, however. Lucas and the rest of your friends turned to him now. Less than five minutes later, the seasoned firefighter felt like he was being cross-examined in court, or worse, internal affairs.
Your friends were adamant about putting him through his paces while one of them was distracting you. You shouldn't necessarily notice anything from this assessment.
Kelly answered every question asked of him. He knew that your friends only meant well and wanted to make sure that he was right for you too.
He loved you, wanted to be with you, to spend his life with you. Kelly would do everything in his power to prove that he was worth to be the man by your side.
---
Since she told you the story of Kelly and this blonde, there has been a kind of radio silence between you. Susan suspected that you had withdrawn into your shell and were now licking your wounds like an injured animal.
Unfortunately, she hadn't run into this man since then, but that hadn't stopped her from continuing the hunt. Some men had already succumbed to their Venus trap in the meantime. Even so, she still wanted the man who rejected her.
Kelly Severide.
But sooner or later he, too, would end up in her bed. It was only a matter of time.
Quickly, or at least as fast as her four-inch Louboutin stilettos would allow, she danced across the street. It had taken forever to find a taxi today and so she arrived at Flanagans a full hour late.
As she saw the crowds huddling in the pub, she remembered the hurling game that was going on today.
It was almost a miracle that she managed to get a foot in the Flanagans.
Slowly she pushed past the crowds and looked for her friends. They were probably on the other side of the bar, as always.
It took a few minutes until she had worked her way through the pub and now saw Lucas accompanied by the others. They seemed to be deep in conversation with a tall, black-haired man who was currently still having his back on Susan.
"Hey Susan," said Lucas when he discovered her, "I thought you weren't coming today after all."
“You try to get a taxi in that madhouse out there. I had to wait over an hour today, ”she replied, slightly irritated, before turning to the stranger.
The blonde couldn't believe it, the man she had searched almost the whole city for, and whom she desired more than anyone else, was now standing in front of her. His eyes were on her almost waiting.
"Hello," she said in an oily voice and gave him a stunning smile, "I didn't expect you to be here."
"You know each other," Lucas asked, exaggeratedly surprised, as if he had no idea what had happened.
“Yes, we met some time ago,” smiled Susan, “I was really fascinated when I found out about his job. I mean, how often in life do you meet a true hero. "
Kelly looked at Susan surprised, even a little perplexed. The absolute nonsense this woman sometimes uttered was just unbelievable. Still, he didn’t show anything.
At first he was silent. What should he say in return?
"So you're a real hero, Kelly," said Lucas, "you haven't told us that yet."
The blonde Irishman's voice and body language were exaggerated as if he were starring in a sarcastic play.
Although, from that point of view ... actually ...
“It's a job like any other,” said the black-haired firefighter with a shrug.
“Don't put your light under a bushel like that. I mean they save innocent women from burning houses every day”, Susan almost adored him.
"Yes, exactly, don't put your light under a bushel," said Lucas.
He had to pull himself together so that he didn't start laughing out loud.
“I save everyone. It doesn't matter if it's a woman, a child, or a construction worker who weighs three hundred and fifty pounds. And there are not always burning houses. "
Kelly couldn't believe what nonsense this woman was saying.
Did Susan really think she could get hold of him like that?
Were there any men who fell for such a cheap scam?
Lucas wasn't really helping at the moment either, because he was almost laughing.
Susan didn't really notice it, though.
It was just a good thing you were out of earshot right now. Kelly didn't want to imagine how you would have reacted to this situation.
But just for this case he had organized reinforcements.
Already in your apartment he realized how much you had suffered and still suffered from this situation with Susan. So he wanted to keep you out of here as much as possible.
But you were so absorbed in your conversation with the woman next to you that you hadn't noticed Susan had come.
Susan ran her fingers up Kelly's forearm before scratching it, almost teasingly.
"In any case, I'm glad our paths cross tonight, Kelly," Susan flirted on, without even the slightest idea of what was going on. "Apparently, fate means well with us."
"I don't know if fate can be blamed for it," Lucas interjected, still desperately trying to suppress his convulsive laugh.
Now Kelly had to grin too.
"Well, actually my girls wanted to come here," said Kelly and pointed to two women who were standing a little further at the bar and were talking more than just brilliantly.
At first, Susan didn't know what he was talking about and briefly reviewed what he had just said. Had this firefighter really said what she understood?
She looked in the direction he had pointed and was instantly frozen in fear. The color drained from her face. Although it wasn't easy to tell, given the sheer amount of makeup she was wearing. Susan swallowed, trying to work out if she was hallucinating.
Could that really be true what she saw there?
The young woman, less than four meters away, was clearly the blonde who had left the Mollys with Kelly weeks ago. And the woman next to her, with whom she talked almost amicably, couldn't possibly be…. no, that couldn't ... or is it?
Oh my god, yes, that was definitely you.
Only now did Susan notice what was actually going on here.
Everyone here knew what she had done and had now given her a good run.
Kelly looked at her almost defiantly, while Lucas could no longer hold himself and laughed uproariously.
Susan wanted to sink into the ground in shame. Without saying another word, she turned on her heel.
And like the wicked witch in fairy tales, she would not appear on the scene as quickly either.

Love of an irish heart 10 - Cold as a dog's snout

Kelly really did it. He survived that day. He hadn't been as nervous as he had been since waiting for the result of his lieutenant examination years ago. Kelly took a deep breath as he got behind the wheel of his Camaro and looked back over the past few hours.
The first meeting with your family went without any major mishaps. Jimmy told him more than clearly what would happen if he broke your heart. But otherwise everyone had welcomed him warmly in their midst.
Well, except for your mother. She was reluctant to meet Kelly for the time being.
Almost emotionally cold for him.
But the warmth, which the rest of your family radiated with an absolute naturalness, immediately cast a spell over Kelly. Your family was so different from what he was used to from American families, and he was beginning to understand what made you so special.
Your nieces and nephews had been eager to learn how your new boyfriend made his living. Your siblings also listened attentively when he told one story or another. Everyone listened enthusiastically as he talked about his everyday life as a firefighter in Chicago. The smallest of them hung on his lips with their mouths open and soaked up every word he said like a parched desert floor absorbing the rain.
Even if your family tried hard not to show anything, he could still feel the scrutinizing looks on his back. It had been clear to him that here and now the course would be set for the rest of his life.
Your father met him with open arms. He adored his children and had always supported and encouraged them in everything.
This is exactly how he behaved towards Kelly. The Irish immigrant noticed immediately that this firefighter had a deeply good heart and meant business with you.
You watched Kelly from the passenger seat with a loving smile. He had done well, even if your family had not made it easy for him today.
Jimmy and Shannon liked the man by your side. They too had tried to back him up.
Kelly needed that too, after his meeting with Saoirse.
Your mother hadn't been that easy to impress at first glance. She had grown up in Ireland with five brothers, so she knew all the tricks of men and mistrusted them on every level. Even if she liked Kelly, she would continue to examine him before accepting him by your side.
Saoirse loved her children, every one of them. But it was always different with you. You were her special little miracle and your mother would protect you.
Always.
This behavior was hardly surprising, given what had happened years ago in a small hospital in Ireland.
When her youngest was born, what could have gone wrong had gone wrong. Saoirse's own life, as well as that of the unborn, stood on the knife's edge for a long time. The doctors wanted to convey to the expectant parents that the baby would almost certainly not survive.
But Saoirse had known that everything would be fine.
With the superhuman strength of a desperate mother, she had fought for what felt like an eternity for the life of her child, and in the end she won. After painful hours of hope and anxiety, Saoirse had finally held a tiny bundle in her arms.
It was then that she realized that this baby was special. This small, delicate creature with copper-colored hair, who had carefully peeked through the still stuck eyelashes, had defied all odds and bravely fought its way into life.
And it was exactly this being who was gently stroking Kelly's cheek.
Somehow you felt sorry for the man next to you. Your mother wouldn't make it easy for him to prove himself. Even though you knew she liked Kelly more than she was currently willing to admit.
"Wasn't as bad as you thought, was it," you asked in a soft voice.
He gave you a look with raised eyebrows, as if he couldn't believe what you just said.
You could only smile apologetically. It could have been far worse.
"Well, at first ..." he finally began.
"Yes I know. I'm sorry Kelly! My family is a little ... special. There is this inner circle that is very difficult to get into. "
“It's okay,” he interrupted with a grin so that the gap between his teeth was clearly visible again, “your family loves you and wants to protect you. I understand that. I feel the same way. "
He leaned over and kissed you gently and tenderly. He meant what he said, he would never allow anything to happen to you.
“And what do we do with the rest of the day,” you finally wanted to know.
"I think I have an idea," he said with a cheeky grin.
It was immediately clear to you what he was referring to. But two could play this game.
You put your hand teasingly on his thigh, only to slide further and further upwards.
"Something like that," you said challengingly as Kelly sucked in a sharp breath.
He reflexively grabbed your hand. If you two wanted to make it into your apartment, then you couldn't let your hand wander an inch higher.
"Yes, pretty much like that."
With a knowing smile you took your hand back and leaned your head against the passenger door window. You were happy, your life was just about to change in a wonderful way. You couldn't wait to find out where it would take you both.
For now, however, back to your apartment.
Kelly started the car and tried hard to concentrate on the traffic; while he drove to your home on the most direct route.
This gentle and almost cheeky caressing had stimulated his head cinema. His range of thoughts only ranged from not suitable for young people to pornographic, which was not exactly conducive to his concentration.
What you could trigger in him with a simple touch was hard to describe. Kelly had had many women in his life, but you were different. You were the first to touch his soul.
Halfway back, you looked back over what he had said about your family. Only now did you notice what he had actually said.
A warm and comfortable feeling spread through your body and a wonderful smile appeared on your face.
Kelly loved you.
---
Shortly after eight on Monday, the Lieutenant of Rescue Squad 3 entered his apartment. He hadn't been there in four days. After all, he spent every free minute with you. Since the two of you found each other again, he couldn't do without you.
Shay was sitting at the kitchen counter and was enjoying her first cup of coffee when her roommate suddenly sniffed in.
"Oh my god, I don't believe it. That you will be seen here again ... “, she said theatrically.
"Haha, very funny Shay!"
"I thought you moved in with (Y/N) without telling me."
"It's not that far yet," Kelly replied, shaking her head.
However, he couldn't help but smile.
He loved you more than anyone before you. Still, he didn't want to rush anything. Even if the thought of living with you sounded more than wonderful to him.
“Don't be too sure about that, Kelly. You are halfway to settle down with (Y/N)."
The black-haired firefighter looked a little embarrassed at his best friend. Shay knew exactly what was going on inside him.
If you asked him, he would move in with you without hesitation. If it weren't for his guilty conscience, which now loudly spoke up. He didn't want to leave Shay alone, after all, she was always there for him when he needed help.
"How was the family brunch", the blonde paramedic wanted to know and suddenly got him out of his thoughts.
"Actually, not that bad," said Kelly, grateful for this change of subject.
He also grabbed a cup of coffee and stood next to her while Shay watched her best friend out of the corner of her eye.
“I see they left you alive. So, it really couldn't have been bad."
"Yes ... but her brother said he would make me disappear if I broke (Y/N)’s heart."
"Then I'd better not do that if I were you," she replied, and he could clearly hear the threatening undertone.
She'd do the same thing if Kelly screwed up with you.
"I don't mean to, Shay," Kelly said, his voice sounding deeply serious.
Shay realized immediately that he meant what he said.
With Kelly and you, it almost seemed like fate intended you for each other. The two of you just belonged together, and after the initial difficulties nothing would come between the two of you.
Nothing and nobody would ever be able to separate the two of you again.
“And what about (Y/N) 's parents? Do they like you? "
“Her father is really great. A real self-made man. I got on really well with him, "said Kelly with a smile.
“And her mother? She seems to have the say in this family. "
"She was cold as a dog's snout!"
Shay almost choked on her coffee when she laughed, coughing and snorting.
"Well, you can tell her that next time when you see her."
---
It was half past one in the afternoon and you were about to run amok. You've been at the Chicago cargo port since the wee hours of the morning. You had to deal with the problem with a missing container.
Actually, you mainly dealt with contract negotiations and acquiring new customers. But in such cases, you jump into action to prevent worse.
So that it went faster, five dock workers were made available to help you with the search. But meanwhile you were toying with the idea of simply killing these advice-resistant Neanderthals - who had been more in your way than helpful all day - and left to rot somewhere here.
If something as huge as a forty foot container could be lost on this site, getting rid of these idiots and getting away with it shouldn't be a problem.
Not only did they kill your last nerve, no, these guys just made that day hell for you.
You were good at your job, even one of the best, and you could boast of being able to handle every situation professionally. You could find a solution for every problem.
Still, the prepotential domination these dock workers displayed was so condescending that you were really on the verge of losing your nerve and just killing those asses.
At least the weather was nice, because the sun was shining incessantly all day. The sky was deep blue and there wasn't a single cloud to be seen far and wide. Only the wind, which was blowing quite forcefully here at the port and whistling loudly through the container canyons, was annoying.
For hours you had been scouring the port with these misogynist work illiterates looking for a clue as to where the container had been loaded. But even after hours of research, you still had no clue and your search would probably take longer until it was crowned with success. So you had to spend the rest of the day with these idiots for better or worse.
You had already searched a good half of the possibilities where your container could have been. But the prospect of having to spend the rest of the afternoon with these Neanderthals really pushed you to the limits of your psychological resilience.
You were now firmly convinced that you would be ready for dolphin therapy if you had to come here again tomorrow.
On the way to another place where the lost container could be, your cell phone rang loudly in your jacket pocket.
Who would want something from you now?
A little annoyed you looked at the display, which was already flashing brightly towards you.
You accepted the conversation with a big smile, only to drown in your guilty conscience the next moment.
“Hello you unfaithful soul”, you heard the voice of your best friend, “that I can reach you is almost a wonder of the world. I think I have to mark that in red on the calendar right away. "
"Hi Lucas. Sorry, but I…."
“Yeah, save your excuses. You are happy with your firefighter and I can see where I am. "
"Lucas," you whispered into the phone.
If there was anything this man could do, it was that he could make anyone feel guilty. Or maybe it was just because you had been brought up Catholic and you felt guilty about any nonsense anyway.
"Don't always let yourself be persuaded, little one," laughed Lucas on the other side of the line.
He had once again managed to lead you on the black ice.
"But honestly, (Y/N/N). How are you? What are you doing? And more importantly, when will I finally get to know this mysterious firefighter who has so brazenly stolen you from me? "
"I'm fine. I am currently looking for a lost container. And you are welcome to get to know him at any time. "
You were glad Lucas wasn't too mad at you. But he was right, you had really neglected him.
“Perfect, how about tonight at Flanagans! Then I can finally get a close look at this man. I have to see if he's any good."
"Lucas, believe me, Kelly is great!"
"For sure?"
"Yes, he was even with my family for brunch yesterday."
"Oh my god," said Lucas and you could clearly hear the surprise in his voice, "and he's still alive?"
"Yes, of course, why are you asking?"
"So he didn't meet your mother then?"
"Um, yes, why?"
"And then he's still alive? Wow, this firefighter really has to be special if even Saoirse likes him. "
"I told you, Kelly is great."
"Okay, (Y/N/N), now you've made me curious. I absolutely have to get to know this man. Tonight at Flanagans, around nine. And I don't accept excuses. "
Poor Kelly. Only yesterday he had to face your family, and today your friends too.
But to talk Lucas out of something he had once set on his mind was a pointless endeavor anyway.
But if Kelly would go through it willingly, he would really be husband material.
"Okay, I'll call him and let you know. But it shouldn't be a problem. "
"I hope so, little one!"
When you found yourself being impatiently watched by those rude dock workers, you wanted to end the call asap.
"See you later, Lucas. I really have to keep working now. "
"See you later. Oh yes, before I forget, Susan will come too. "
With these words, Lucas had ended the conversation.
Now you stood there, in the middle of the cargo port, and suddenly you felt terribly sick.
You never really wanted to meet that woman again. That fake snake had sabotaged your relationship with Kelly, and just because he fought for you the two of you were dating again.
You were so mad
The joy of meeting your best friend tonight was dashed in one fell swoop.

Since you and Kelly were dating again, you had spent every free minute together. When you weren't in the office, or Kelly was on duty at firehouse 51, the two of you were inseparable. You just couldn't get enough of each other. It was almost as if you wanted to make up for the lost time that Susan's intrigue had cost you.
But right now, you weren't busy making up for lost time with Kelly. It was just before seven in the morning on Saturday. You leaned sleepily against your kitchen counter and held on desperately to a mug of coffee.
Without that, you would probably have fallen over by now.
You would have liked to have slept a few more hours, but Kelly's duty would start in an hour, and since he'd spent the night with you again, you got up with him.
As sleepy as you were, you didn't even notice you were wearing Kelly's CFD shirt.
Dead tired, you took a sip of your coffee and watched Kelly, who had been staring at his cornflakes for what seemed like ten minutes without moving a muscle.
"A penny for your thoughts," you asked him after a hearty yawn.
He looked at you briefly, only to continue poking around uninterested in his breakfast.
“Come on Kelly, talk to me. What is it that concerns you? "
"Do you really think it's such a good idea if I come with you tomorrow?"
You looked at Kelly in confusion. You had no idea what he was talking about.
He seemed to have noticed your confusion.
"The family brunch tomorrow," he continued.
Now you understand what it was about. You were so tired that you had totally forgotten that Saturday was followed by Sunday, and Sunday was family brunch.
So that was why he was so quiet. This tall and strong firefighter was afraid of meeting your family.
Somehow you could understand him, he had no experience of what it was like to be part of such a clan. Having to face the whole pack at once was certainly not easy to cope with.
He was probably feeling like a sacrificial lamb to be brought before a pack of hungry wolves.
"Please don't worry about tomorrow. My family will certainly not eat you. "
"I know, but to face your mother after she almost ..."
"Kelly, put up with it. You have no choice anyway,” you cut him off.
Your mother was kind of the matriarch of your family, her word was the law, and she wanted Kelly with her tomorrow.
“Yes, but please understand me. I am nervous. After all, I'll meet your whole family at once. "
"Counter-question: Would you rather have to come face to face with my mother at some point and explain to her why you didn't come?"
Kelly liked this idea even less.
"Not really."
"Exactly," you said with a smile and put your coffee mug aside.
You came up to him, wrapped your arms around him from behind and put your head on his shoulder.
“Believe me, my family is completely okay. I'm the youngest of my siblings, and everyone always tries to take care of me, but when they notice how you feel about me, they will accept you. "
"You think so?"
"Yes, definitely. However, they won't spare you one or two stupid sayings. But otherwise everyone is very nice. Promised."
You'd started to smile, and the open-minded and open manner in which you tried to cheer him up made Kelly smile too.
"Okay if you say so."
---
Punctually, as always, the Lieutenant of Rescue Squad 3 appeared at firehouse 51 to begin his duty. Ever since he met you, he was willing to keep his private life to himself. You weren't one of those conquests to brag about. Even if he used to like to do that.
It was a little different with you. The feelings for you went so much deeper than he had ever experienced before.
Even if he didn't say a word about you and your relationship, his colleagues had noticed the subtle nuances in which his behavior had changed. Still, they couldn't figure it out.
Only Shay knew what had changed her best friend's life in the last week, or rather who had changed it. It had also not escaped her that he was happier and more relaxed than before.
So it was all the more surprising for the blonde paramedic that Kelly seemed restless and sometimes even absent-minded today, almost as if something was making him extremely nervous.
For example, the black-haired lieutenant had been sitting at the dining table in the common room for a full quarter of an hour, staring at the same page of the newspaper. And that without even having read a line.
Something seemed to bother him so much that he could hardly concentrate on the task in front of him. Maybe something was wrong with you and Kelly again?
"Please no more drama," Shay thought as she armed herself with two coffee mugs and came to Kelly.
"Hey, everything's okay with you," she wanted to know as she put the coffee mug in front of him and sat down next to him.
"Sure," said Kelly and looked at her puzzled.
Shay knew him well enough, however, not to be fooled by his cool manner.
"Are you sure about that?"
"Yes why?"
"Because you've been staring into the paper for a full quarter of an hour without even reading a word," Shay said with a grin, before leaning over the newspaper and studying the page that had banned Kelly, "or are you're suddenly interested in Walmart's special offer on tofu."
Confused, Kelly looked at the newspaper in front of him.
"You know, healthy eating is important."
"Kelly," Shay replied threateningly, "what's wrong with you?"
"Well, ..." he finally admitted meekly and looked at her with an expression on his face as if his hand had just been caught in the cookie jar.
"Come on, what's going on Kelly," she said, now a little quieter and moved her chair closer to him.
Apparently he didn't want the subject that preoccupied him to get around in firehouse 51.
"(Y/N) and I were more or less caught by her mother last Sunday."
"Oh my god what? Really? Why?"
Shay's voice almost cracked if she hadn't whispered.
"Why didn't you tell me that before? Go on, I need to know all the details! "
“Every Sunday (Y/N) 's whole family meets for brunch. And last Sunday she didn't go there because we…. let's say we were busy. "
"Okay ... go on ..."
"Well, and since she didn't show up, her mother looked after her."
"Oh my god, please don't tell me that (Y/N) 's mother caught you ... how you were... with each other ..."
“No, thank God not. (Y/N) heard her before it really got down to business. And then intercepted her before she could get into the bedroom. "
"Okay, that means, your future mother-in-law almost caught you seducing her daughter ... and that when you first met."
"Future mother-in-law," Kelly asked, her eyebrows raised.
"You don't want to seriously explain to me now that you don't envision a future together with (Y/N)?"
At this statement Kelly had to grin widely. Of course he had already imagined what your future together would look like. However, he was afraid that it might never come to that, so he buried this dream deep in his heart at the moment.
"Can we stay on the subject, Shay?"
"Okay, yes, sorry. So (Y/N) ‘s mother almost caught you having sex. And that's only because (Y/N) didn't show up for the family brunch?"
"Her mother was apparently worried when she didn't show up."
"Wow. That's what I call family cohesion. "
“(Y/N) is Irish. Apparently that is the case with her family. "
"Okay, and that's what concerns you now because? I mean, she didn't really catch you having sex. "
"Well, since that with (Y / N) and me is more or less official now, the same applies to me as to the rest of the family."
"And that means?"
"Obligation to be present."
The blonde paramedic looked wide-eyed at Kelly before she started laughing. Kelly, on the other hand, didn't think it was funny and still looked very unhappy.
"Well, what else can I say besides: Welcome to an Irish family, Kelly", Shay said and took a long sip of her coffee.
Unfortunately, the lieutenant of the Rescue Squad couldn't give her a neat answer because the alarm went off.
"Truck 81, Rescue Squad 3, Ambulance 61. Car accident!"
Immediately everyone left everything they were doing and set off for their trucks.
It wasn't long to get to the scene, and as there was hardly any traffic at the moment, they quickly reached their destination on their short drive.
When they arrived at the scene they were presented with a horrific picture. They had been called to a parking garage. A car was about to crash from its top parking deck. Another car was just below it. Two women were trapped in it, desperately crying out for help.
Parts of the facade kept falling on the car, and it would not be long before the upper car crashed and landed right on the lower car.
"Two idiots fought over a fucking parking lot and then one of them just pushed the other over the parapet," Kelly could hear the parking garage manager as he was getting out of the truck.
He looked up and wondered once more what people were doing to each other.
Where should all this lead to?
"Severide, you have to go upstairs and stabilize the car," Chief Boden got him out of his thoughts.
He looked at the entrance to the parking garage and thought for a moment.
"There's not enough space here for our truck, we have to get Truck 81 into position and ..."
"There's no time for that," interrupted Chief Boden, "load everything you need into Battalion 25, then I'll drive you upstairs."
"Okay, come on guys," he encouraged his men from Rescue Squad 3, who immediately packed up everything they needed and threw it into their chief's car before they got in themselves.
With loud sirens they drove up the twelve floors to the roof of the parking garage. The driver of the car that had been pushed through the wall was still behind the wheel and everyone could hear the fear all too clearly in his trembling voice.
"Can I get out now?"
"Just a moment," ordered Boden, "we don't have time to stabilize the car!"
“Chief”, Kelly called, “I'll rope myself up and pull him out of the back. Cap! Secure the rope! "
"Roger that."
The tall man, who had even less hair on his head than Kojak on a windy day, was already on his way to support his superior.
Secured in this way, Kelly climbed onto the rear of the vehicle while the driver began to panic.
“Get me out of here! The car is slipping! "
"Take it easy, I'll get you out of there. Put your hands in front of your face! "
With these words, the Rescue Squad lieutenant broke the rear window and grabbed the desperate man who was still in the driver's seat, fearful for his life.
Shortly before the car fell, Kelly managed to jump with him to safety before the silver four-door fell into the depths.
Fortunately for everyone, Matt and his colleagues had meanwhile pulled the lower car out of the way, thus saving the lives of the two women.
---
Thank goodness the rest of Kelly's duty hadn't been too stressful. He'd even been able to sleep through the night without a single alarm.
Now he was standing in front of your apartment, freshly showered and dressed in black jeans, a T-shirt and his beloved leather jacket.
He was still terribly nervous because today he was going to get to know not only your parents, but your whole family as well. At least half of those who were currently in Chicago.
Kelly knew he was going to be put to the test at this brunch today. Again and again he sent a quick prayer towards heaven that he would make a good impression today.
He loved you, and the idea that your family would not accept him as your significant other would be unbearable for him.
When you stepped out of the house, you were like the first ray of sunshine on a cloudy day to him.
"Hey," he greeted you as he gently kissed you on the lips.
"Everything's okay," you wanted to know when he opened the passenger door of his blue Camaro and you got in.
"Sure, why?"
"Because you are giving the impression that you would like to hide yourself in the next hole."
An embarrassed smile played on his lips. If you could see through him that easily, what would he expect from your family today?
“Don't you worry Kelly. My siblings are okay, and you don't need to be afraid of my father either. "
"And your mother?"
“You don't need to be afraid of her either. It could just be that she'll let you jump through one or the other burning tire. "
Kelly looked at you desperately, but said, "I'm not afraid."
"Please don't worry either, in the worst case my father will surely save you."
"Hopefully."
"And I'm there too."
---
At ten o'clock sharp, Kelly parked his car in front of your parents' house. Concerned, he let his gaze wander over the pretty suburban house, which gave the impression of being on the set of a romantic Hollywood film.
What would he expect behind these walls?
"Come on, they won't eat you," you said affectionately and gave him an encouraging kiss on the cheek.
You knew how uncomfortable Kelly must be. After all, he was going to be tested by all of your family today. In view of this, one could be quite nervous. Even a seasoned firefighter like Kelly Severide was.
"Are you really sure about that?"
"Yes Kelly. They will like you. Believe me."
Still nervous, Kelly got out, and before he even closed his car door, you were by his side. You took his hand lovingly in yours. So you went through your parents' front yard
"Mum? Dad? We're here,” you called through the house as soon as you walked through the front door.
As soon as Kelly took the first steps through your parents' house, a homely feeling spread inside him. It had an incredibly family atmosphere. You just felt comfortable in this house. Even Kelly, whose nervousness was still his constant companion.
"Hey (Y/N/N)", Jimmy greeted you and gave you a kiss on the cheek.
In his arms he held his few month old son Joey who was babbling happily to himself.
“You are on time as always. The others are all in the garden."
Jimmy had wisely overlooked Kelly up to now. It was immediately clear to you what kind of game your brother was playing here. So you gave Kelly's hand a reassuring squeeze before your brother spoke to you again.
"Oh (Y / N / N), would you be so nice and quickly change Joey's diapers."
"Yes, of course," you said with a smile and took the little boy in your arms, who chuckled happily at you, "as an aunt that's my job too, isn't it?"
With these words you disappeared on the first floor.
Kelly was now face to face with your big brother all alone.
"So you're that firefighter," Jimmy turned his attention to Kelly.
"Hello, I'm Jimmy," said the Irishman, welcoming the newcomer and shaking hands with him in a friendly manner.
"Kelly."
"My sister loves you, you know", your brother comes straight out with it.
"I love her too, very much."
Kelly hadn't lied. He loved you, could never do without you again.
"Nice to hear," Jimmy continued without letting go of Kelly's hand.
On the contrary, he squeezed his hand even harder.
"Just that we both understand each other now, firefighter, if you just fool my sister and her heart breaks, I'll break your neck and make it look like an accident. Roger that?"
The Irishman smiled at Kelly, but he could see in his eyes that Jimmy was dead serious.
"I have no intention of breaking (Y / N) heart," Kelly replied just as seriously.
"That's good to hear. Then we shouldn't have any problems with each other. "
At that very moment you came back again. You had a freshly swaddled joey on your arm. You looked briefly back and forth between the two men.
"Everything's okay here," you wanted to know.
You had such an idea what was probably going on here.
"Yes, of course, what should be", Jimmy asked with a smile and took his - meanwhile again good smelling - son in reception before he went to the others on the terrace.
"Kelly", you asked, "is everything really okay?"
"Yes. Your brother has just made it clear to me what he will do if I break your heart. "
"Break your neck and make it look like an accident?"
"Yes. Pretty much that. "
"He already told the guy who took me out on my first date when I was sixteen."
You caress his cheek lovingly. He still had a difficult day ahead of him today. Your family would put this man through one more test or another before they would find Kelly worthy.
"Don't worry, they're okay, really."
You should be right, because the rest of your family was thrilled to finally meet your new boyfriend. Especially since they knew he was a firefighter.
They valued service to the community very much, after all in Ireland it was common practice to stand up for others and help wherever help was needed.
Kelly and Brian, your father, hit it off right away. It almost seemed as if they were two old friends who found each other again after a long separation. But the most difficult encounter was still ahead of Kelly.
"So you are the flu my daughter was in bed with last week," Saoirse stated dryly as Kelly stood across from her with a friendly smile.
The seasoned firefighter wanted to sink into the ground, but tried to stay as cool as possible.
“Um,…. you could say so, yes. "
Saoirse, although a good head shorter than himself, intimidated Kelly a bit with her incredibly confident charisma. He could hardly withstand her piercing gaze. Nevertheless, it almost seemed as if the Irish woman had to resist a smile.
"So you are a firefighter?"
"Yes ma’am."
“I hope this is not just an interlude for you, Mr. Severide. You must know that I take care of my children. It wouldn't do you any good if you broke my daughter's heart. "
"I wont."
"I hope so …. I'll keep an eye on you, Mr. Severide! "
With these words Saoirse went on to her eldest daughter, who was busy setting the table for brunch. Kelly was left more or less speechless.
For now he had survived it, but it was clear to him that this could only have been the first exchange of blows. A blind man could see from ten miles away that this woman loved her children and wanted to protect them at all costs.
The Lieutenant of Rescue Squad 3 took a deep breath.
He wanted to be accepted by your family more than anything. He loved you, wanted to spend his life with you. He would never knowingly hurt you or let others do it.
Your father had overheard the conversation from a safe distance and had now come to him armed with two bottles of beer.
From his point of view, Kelly could really use some support and encouragement. Brain liked the tall, dark-haired man you brought with you.
The rest of your family liked Kelly too.
Even your mother loved him, even if she didn't want to admit it. Your mother was a mother hen, especially when it came to you. And your father wanted to make sure right now that Kelly knew he was totally behind him.
"Don't worry, it'll be fine," said your father when he stepped next to Kelly.
The black-haired firefighter gratefully took the beer from his hand, took a sip and watched you in silence as you played catch with your siblings' children in the meadow.
A warm feeling spread through his body and for a moment he lost himself in a wonderful fantasy. You and he … married … and with children of your own.
When your father patted his shoulder encouragingly, he was instantly back to reality.
"In case no one has said it before, welcome to the family, Kelly!"

You had no idea what time it was when you slowly woke up that morning. When you finally managed to open your eyes, you were utterly confused. Apparently you slept in the living room.
But why?
Only slowly did the memory of last night come back to the surface of your still very calm sea of thoughts. A smile played around your lips and your cheeks turned deep red as you realized that you were still naked.
Did it all really happen?
Still sleepy, you stretched with relish. But then you noticed something was wrong. You were alone on the couch.
Confused, you sat around and looked around. There was no sign of Kelly anywhere. His clothes were gone and there was silence in the whole apartment.
What had happened?
When did he disappear?
And why?
All of a sudden you felt terribly sick and wanted to throw up. Your mind started racing. You tried to figure out what was happening here. You just felt miserable.
Was it all just a game Kelly played to get you to have sex with him? Were you just another notch in his bedpost?
That very idea caused your stomach to spin around once.
Sad and infinitely heartbroken, you wrapped the blanket tighter around your naked body and went to the bathroom. You urgently needed a shower.
While you waited for the water to get hot, you leaned on the sink. With both hands on the white china, you stared at your reflection. You weren't a model, you had never been the petite type. You had a female figure; childbearing hips - as your mother used to call it - and unmistakable love handles.
You didn't want to think through this train of thought. The realization that awaits you in the end would be far too painful.
With a heavy sigh you went into the shower. When you felt the hot water on your skin, you literally had to overcome yourself not to pull back immediately.
Tired and infinitely disappointed, you leaned your arms against the tiled back wall, laid your head on it and let the hot water run over your neck. The little pearls of water ran down your back to your legs, taking with them any evidence of the night before they disappeared into the drain.
Again and again yesterday night played back in front of your inner eye. What had happened? Why was he gone? Was it all just a game for Kelly?
The drops of water mix with your tears, which you quietly shed in your shower. Your thoughts were still so infinitely loud in your head. But the sound of the water rushing past your ears helped you gradually silence your thoughts.
Only when the water started to get cold did you turn off the shower and wrap yourself in the large fluffy bath towel that hung on a hook on the wall.
You only had your hair wrung out briefly while trying to catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. Fortunately for you, it was fogged up, and so you were spared your pathetic sight.
Barefoot and with your hair slightly dripping, you made your way to the kitchen. You urgently needed a coffee now.
You could already hear noises in the hallway. Someone was in your apartment. More precisely, someone was messing around in your kitchen. You stopped, confused. Who could it be? You saw that your front door was locked as always. It was probably your mother.
It was Sunday, after all, and you had been absent from the office for the past few days. Officially, you had the flu. Only your brother knew about your heartbreak dilemma.
You were absolutely not keen on meeting your mother at that moment. She always had that gift of knowing exactly what was going on with you. And blindfolded, she would know that you didn't have the flu but that your heart was broken.
Nevertheless, you urgently needed a coffee and for that you had to go to the kitchen. Apart from the fact that you couldn't avoid your mother anyway.
With a deep sigh you stepped through the open door and braced yourself for the interrogation of your mother when you stopped dead. You had expected a lot now, but definitely not the sight you were looking at right now.
"Hey, you were still sleeping and your fridge was empty, so I quickly got us something for breakfast."
Kelly was standing in the middle of your kitchen, smiling slightly embarrassed, and was just about to fill two cups with freshly brewed coffee. Absolutely absent-mindedly you stood there and took the cup that Kelly held out to you.
Your head was absolutely blank. Not a single thought could be found there.
Still confused, you took a long sip of the black liquid without taking your eyes off Kelly for a moment.
"Everything's okay," he asked and you could hear the uncertainty in his voice.
"Yeah ... everything ... everything is okay," you answered, slightly pensive.
You had hoped that Kelly would not ask, but unfortunately in this case you were not heard. The black-haired firefighter had noticed immediately that something was wrong and now looked at you expectantly with raised eyebrows.
You smiled, embarrassed, and began to stare at the mug in your hand as you leaned against the counter behind you.
You didn't really want to tell him what had been going through your head a few minutes ago. You were just too embarrassed.
But Kelly did not give up.
"Hey (Y / N), what's going on in your pretty head right now?"
At these words the blush shot in your cheeks and you began to nervously nibble your lower lip before you had the courage to admit it to him.
"It's just", you finally began uncertainly, "when I woke up earlier and you weren't there, ... I thought ..."
God, that was just embarrassing here.
Kelly knew immediately what you were getting at.
"... you thought I just disappeared after last night."
You took a deep breath and looked around your kitchen for help, as if someone were on one of your shelves who could get you out of this unpleasant situation.
"Yes, somehow."
Kelly slowly came up to you and took your coffee mug from your hand and placed it on the counter behind you.
You still hadn't looked at him until he gently brushed a drop of water from your cheek - which had dripped from your still wet hair - did you look up at him.
“No matter what was before and what you heard about me. I want to be with you; only with you. I will certainly not go away unless you want me to go. "
In his infinitely blue eyes you could see all the love he felt for you. And before your knees could turn to jelly, his strong arms closed around your waist and pulled you to him. Hardly a moment later his lips were tenderly on yours, and that warm feeling spread all over your body again.
You didn't know what was happening here, just that this man was like heroin and you were already addicted.
Without thinking about it, you put your arms around his neck and kissed him back with all the passion you felt right now.
You thought you had lost Kelly and now you were in his arms again. Sometimes your imagination was your greatest enemy. But at that moment your mind wandered to all the things Kelly had done to you yesterday.
And before you could lose yourself in it, Kelly had freed you from your towel, which you were still wrapped in. Now you stood before him as God had created you.
Without removing his lips from yours, Kelly picked you up. While you were still wrapping your legs around his waist, he was already carrying you into your bedroom. He'd discovered it this morning while looking for the bathroom.
The couch was really no longer the right place for what he was going to do.
He gently put you down on the bed and pulled his shirt over his head with almost the same hand movement. Now for the first time you could really see what your fingers had already guessed yesterday.
Every muscle on him was precisely defined; and this man looked like he'd jumped out of a billboard.
You still couldn't really believe that this man who began to tenderly caress your neck was yours.
Slowly and very carefully, he worked his way down your artery to your breasts to linger there briefly. First he made sure that your right nipple stretched out towards him, then your left. Then he wandered southwards with hot, nibbling kisses.
Each of his gentle touches sent shivers through your whole body and you buried your hands in his hair when he reached that one point that was already pulsing with longing.
Again and again your body reared up under the knowing movements of its tongue when it generated another wave of ecstasy. You moaned loudly under the lust that almost drove you crazy.
That seemed to spur Kelly even further, as if to see how far he could take you before you would go crazy for good.
Before long you came harder than ever before whispering Kelly's name over and over like a prayer.
As you came back from your high, you hardly noticed that Kelly was getting rid of his remaining, now very annoying, clothes. And after putting on a condom, he sank completely into you.
You couldn't think clearly anymore. The last night had been amazing, but what Kelly was doing to you now was completely out of your mind. Again and again he drove you so far that you almost came before he took you back, only to be pushed a little further to your limits.
Kelly enjoyed how you squim under him even if it required everything not to lose himself in you. Just the sweet curses that came out of your lips again and again were worth the effort. But at some point he too had reached the point of no return and tore you over the cliff with unbelievable violence.
As if your life depended on it, you clung to Kelly, leaving deep red scratches on his back while your orgasm broke over you like a tsunami and swept your head absolutely empty.
At some point, exhausted, he lay down next to you and looked at the ceiling in surprise at the intensity of what had just happened.
"Wow," he couldn't think of anything else at the moment, with the best will in the world.
"Yes", you whispered a little out of breath, "definitely!"
You looked at each other and both started laughing at your lack of words. After Kelly got rid of the condom, you snuggled very close to him while he gently stroked your upper arm with his fingertips.
You just lay in each other's arms, didn't say a word, and enjoyed each other's presence.
---
"Tell me, have you heard of (Y/N/N)", your mother Saoirse asked your brother, who had just come to the usual Sunday brunch with his family.
"No why? Is she not there yet? "
"She called in sick this week and I thought you knew the exact details, since you were only recently at Flanagan's together."
Jimmy looked at his mother in amazement, how she knew that again.
Your mother had always been a phenomenon in this regard. Even as children, you never managed to hide anything from her.
Jimmy could already guess what or who was the reason for your illness. After all, he had been there live and seen what had happened between you and this firefighter; and how it all broke your heart
Lovesickness could really be paralyzing, your brother knew that from personal experience. However, he didn't want to tell your mother about it and now talked to her soothingly.
“You know (Y/N/N), she is tough. Tomorrow she will be fit again, sit in the office and scold her suppliers. But I'll call her later. Mum, I'm sure she's not seriously ill. Otherwise she would have contacted you. "
Jimmy hoped that would be the end of it, but he knew your mother all too well. She wouldn't let up until she knew what was going on. Fortunately for him, Shannon came with her children at that moment and everyone really wanted to tell Grandma something.
That was his opportunity, he picked up the cell phone and dialed your number.
To his chagrin, only the mailbox answered.
“(Y/N/N), I have no idea where you are, but if you hear that, contact Mum immediately if you don't want her to come to you today! Where the hell are you anyway? And what was the point of reporting sick leave? Call me back!"
Shannon noticed that something was wrong and now approached her brother.
"What's happening?"
“(Y/N/N) has problems with her firefighter and apparently called in sick at the company. Since she has not shown up yet, Mum is of course worried, you know her. "
"Call (Y/N/N)!"
"I tried, but only the mailbox answers."
"What happened? I thought everything is going great with both of them. "
"Susan happened."
Shannon suspected what that meant, but wasn't sure. She never understood why you were friends with this woman. Susan was a scheming goat, but you only ever saw the good in people and couldn't imagine that someone could be like that.
“What do you mean> Susan happened>? Did (Y/N/N) break up with Kelly? Did they argue? "
“I met with (Y/N/N) a few days ago and she told me that Susan had told her Kelly actually has a girlfriend. I advised (Y/N/N) to hear his side of the story before she blindly trusts Susan. "
Shannon looked at Jimmy without saying a word. They both hoped fervently that you had listened to that advice. They couldn't have guessed what was going on in your apartment right now.
---
You had been in Kelly's arms for hours. You talked about God and the world and completely forgot about the time. Everything was suddenly so simple. There was only the two of you, arm in arm, nothing more.
He told you about why he went to the fire department, about his father, who left the family very early, and the problems with his mother. You had listened to him carefully and slowly began to understand why he had lived his life the way he had so far. Behind his words, you could hear all too clearly how much he longed to find a place he belonged to.
In return you had told him about your family, about your mother, who still interfered in the lives of her children even though they were all long grown up.
You told him about your father, who always supported you in everything you did. And you talked about your siblings without whom you just couldn't imagine your life.
It sounded just beautiful to Kelly and he would have been happy to be part of such a family one day.
When the silence fell, he leaned over and started kissing you. But there was no silence in your home.
Abruptly you pushed Kelly away from you and listened. There was something.
"What's going on," he asked confused.
You looked at him and put a finger to your lips.
"Shhh."
"What?"
There it was again, that sound.
"Did you hear that?"
"No what?"
"Shhhhh. Listen."
Confused, he looked at the bedroom door, which was still wide open, and listened to the silence of the apartment.
Silence? No, there was a sound.
Suddenly you sat up abruptly and looked at him in shock. You knew these noises. Your stomach contracted painfully as you realized what was happening here.
"Shit," you hissed and jumped out of bed.
You grabbed the very best piece of clothing you could find and put it on. In your panic, you hadn't even noticed that it was Kelly's shirt. When you had taken a new pair of panties out of a drawer, you turned around again briefly to the man behind you, who was still sitting confused on the bed.
"Not a peep," you whispered with a raised finger and were already out the door.
Kelly was left confused.
With your heart pounding wildly, you walked down the hall. Unfortunately, you knew who would be waiting for you around the next corner.
"Mum, what ... what are you doing here?"
"I was worried about you, dear. First you called in sick and then you didn't come to the family brunch today without letting us know why. "
Oh my God. It was sunday. You had completely forgotten that.
"I ... um ... I ..." you stammered awkwardly, with no idea how you could explain all of this without having to mention the man in your bedroom.
“Don't bother to find an explanation, (Y/N/N). I assume the man in your bedroom is then the flu you are lying in bed with? "
"Mum!"
You were totally embarrassed at that remark.
Your mother's look spoke volumes. Saoirse struggled not to grin. As soon as she entered your apartment, she knew what was being played here. Especially when she found your clothes scattered around the living room and two half-full cups of coffee in the kitchen. Oh yes, and then there was the thing about the bath towel on the kitchen floor.
But when you stepped under her eyes with wildly curly hair and a man's shirt that was three sizes too big for you, Saoirse finally knew what was going on.
She too had been young once; and she and your father had had some fun nights together.
"Nice shirt by the way."
"I ... um ...", you had no idea how to react to that.
You only knew that at that moment you had turned as red as a fully ripe tomato.
Your mother caught you off guard there.
“I will tell everyone that you have recovered from your flu and that you will be fit again next week. So we'll see each other for brunch next Sunday, ”said your mother with a big grin.
She wasn't angry with you. She found this whole situation just absolutly hilarious.
At that moment, however, you could only nod, embarrassed.
"Maybe you can bring the gentleman you are trying to hide with you," she continued a little louder so that Kelly could now hear her clearly, "judging by the behavior of your siblings, they both know who he is . It would only be fair if the rest of the family could get to know him too. "
With these words your mother kissed your forehead lovingly and left your apartment. You were left stunned.
Only slowly came your legs back to life and you went back to your bedroom numb.
"Was that ..." Kelly began confused.
"Yes, that was my mother."
Still in shock, you went on, “apparently you're coming to the family brunch next week, and before you ask, no, you have to come with me. You cannot cancel. "
Kelly looked at you in disbelief with raised eyebrows as you sat down next to him on the bed.
"Welcome to an Irish family, Kelly," you said before you fell back on the bed and began to laugh out loud.

For anyone who only knew Kelly Severide superficially, the black-haired lieutenant of Rescue Squad 3 was as professional as ever. He worked in a concentrated manner and did not allow any mistakes.
But his friends noticed the change in his being. More and more often he withdrew to be alone. Kelly had changed completely since the night he drove over to speak to you.
Shay especially noticed that.
The young paramedic was worried about her best friend. She had never seen Kelly like this before. He hardly talked anymore and had completely withdrawn. Whatever had happened, it had broken this man's heart.
Even today, on that wonderful Saturday morning, he hadn't come out of his room. Slowly but surely he withdrew from everything. And it hurt Shay to see her roommate suffer so much.
With a sigh, she took a mug of coffee and climbed the stairs to Kelly's room. In front of the door she waited a moment before she finally had the courage to knock.
But nothing moved on the other side.
When after several times there was still no reaction from inside Kelly's room, Shay just opened the door.
The sight that was there broke her heart.
Kelly was curled up like an embryo on the bed, staring with blank eyes.
"I brought you coffee," Shay said in a calm voice.
"I don't want coffee."
"Then a glass of water?"
"I don’t want anything."
“What happened, Kelly? I'm seriously worried about you. "
"Leave me alone Shay."
Kelly's voice was low and he sounded infinitely tired. Almost as if he hadn't slept in days.
"Kelly, please talk to me, what happened?"
"I don’t want to talk. Shay please just leave me alone. "
“What happened, Kelly, please talk to me. I'm worried about you."
Sighing, Severide rubbed his eyes. Just the thought of your hateful words hurt him deeply.
"(Y/N) she ... she thinks ... she thinks I cheated on her."
"What," Shay stared at him with her mouth wide open, "but you haven't ... right?"
"Of course not!" Replied Kelly indignantly.
"OK. Sorry I just wanted to be sure ", Shay tried to calm the man in front of her," who are you supposed to have cheated on her with? May I ask."
"With you," he said with a sigh.
This statement was followed by five seconds of absolute silence before Shay had to try hard to keep from laughing out loud. The paramedic would have expected everything now, but not that.
"That's not funny Shay!"
Kelly sat up furiously. He couldn't believe his best friend laughing at the fact that you had left him.
"I am sorry. I'm sorry. Yeah it's not funny. But how did (Y/N) come up with this idea? I mean, she wouldn't have come up with something so absurd, would she? "
"Susan told her."
"Who is Susan please?"
“A friend of (Y/N), but I'm not so sure anymore. "
"Should I know this woman?"
"That was the blonde who hit me at Molly's last week."
Shay let this new information sink in for a brief moment before she began to nod knowingly.
"Okay I got it. Now I know what's going on here. "
"And what exactly do you understand?"
“Well, that's very clear. Susan wanted you, (Y/N) had you, so Susan had to get rid of her somehow. Classic mare bite. Some women are like that; and Susan is definitely the type for that. "
Kelly shook her head in disbelief.
"I just don't understand why (Y/N) believe what Susan told her."
“Because she trusts her. They are friends, well at least that's what (Y/N) thinks. "
The black-haired firefighter felt trapped in a nightmare.
"And what should I do now? I tried to explain it to her. But she ... she doesn't even listen to me. "
Shay took Kelly in her arms comfortingly.
“You can't do anything about it, Kelly. But maybe I can. "
---
You had spoken to your brother for a long time, and he had told you a few things that you would rather not have heard. Could it be that Kelly was really innocent?
After all, he had reacted to your allegations far differently than you thought.
Was there perhaps another side to this story that you didn't know?
The thoughts were buzzing in your head like a horde of hummingbirds gone wild. You had to think about it. And what better way to do that than if you could run along the lake by yourself.
You were still tired, after all, you didn't fall into bed until around midnight. Still you wanted to exhaust yourself. You just needed that now.
You had to think about everything that had happened in the past few days, what you had learned.
Jimmy was right, you had to listen to Kelly's version, but you couldn't face him.
On the other hand, Susan's words kept going through your head. They still took your breath away.
And so you ran, mile after mile, trying to understand what had happened.
Only when you got back to Aquarium did you perceive your surroundings for the first time. You were completely out of breath.
You stared out at the lake for a long time. You missed Kelly. You missed him so much. It was almost as if you had lost part of yourself with him. You were about to start crying when suddenly someone spoke to you.
"Hi," you heard a young voice next to you.
"Um ... hello," you greeted the young woman who had come to stand next to you.
She was blonde, about your age and tall, except that she was probably no more than size 1. Somehow she looked familiar to you. You were sure that you had met her before. But with the best will in the world, you couldn't think of where you knew her from.
"You are (Y/N), right?" The blonde wanted to know.
"Um…. yes ?! ”you answered.
"Hi, I'm Leslie, Leslie Shay" said the young woman, "nice to see that you are well again."
Now it occurred to you how you knew this woman from.
“You are the paramedic. The one who helped me after ... ", the memory of Kelly came back painfully," .... when my office burned down. "
You didn't want to talk about him. Every time it popped up on your mind, your throat would instantly constrict and you would feel like you were suffocating.
"Yes," she smiled, but then began to play nervously with her hands.
You watched the young woman for a moment. Something was wrong here. It couldn't have been a chance meeting, otherwise this paramedic wouldn't be so nervous now.
"Why do I have the feeling that this is no coincidence."
“Because it isn't. I wanted to talk to you. "
"With me," you asked, puzzled, "about what?"
"Kelly."
Your stomach contracted suddenly. You would have loved to turn around and run straight away. But you were just too tired for that.
"Sorry," you sighed in annoyance and made a disparaging gesture, "but I really don't feel like talking about him."
"Please (Y/N). You don't have to say anything, just listen to me. "
As you were about to turn away from her, Shay took your arm and looked at you pleadingly.
"I beg you. Just give me a minute. It really doesn't take me long. But please listen to me. "
You nervously nibbled your lower lip as your brother's words echoed through your head again. It would only be fair to hear the other side of this story. And frankly, you preferred to hear from Shay. You wouldn't have the strength to face Kelly again.
Even if it was difficult for you to jump over your own shadow, you wanted to hear this version now to finally be able to finish with this whole story.
"Okay, you have a minute. I will listen. "
"OK. Good. Fantastic. So, I heard what happened. Between you and Kelly. And I know what your friend told you. She's not entirely wrong with her story, but that's only half the story. Yes, it's true Kelly lives with a woman, but the woman is me. And believe me we're just friends. There is nothing else between us. "
After that opening, you weren't so sure if you wanted to hear the rest of the story as well. So Susan was telling the truth. Kelly lived with a woman.
Shay noticed immediately that the conversation was about to slip away.
"Um ... I'm a lesbian," she finally said.
This statement now had your full attention. Kelly lived with a lesbian? Now you were utterly confused.
“So,” Shay continued, “basically we're just two guys who share an apartment. And if Kelly had a male roommate, you wouldn't think about it either. It's the same for me. I like women. Absolutely and 100%. "
You stared at the blonde woman in front of you in disbelief. If all of that was true, then you absolutely overreacted. And did Kelly more than just wrong.
Oh god what had you done ?
Why didn't you speak to him, but condemn him as soon as you could?
"I am telling you the truth. He misses you. Please believe me, if there is a woman in his life, it is you. "
You didn't know what to say. You looked around in embarrassment. You thought Kelly had betrayed you, but now it seemed like it was all just a huge misunderstanding. Deep down you wanted to believe Shay. But did you have the strength to face Kelly?
"(Y/N) please, you have to believe me, I'm telling the truth. If you don't believe me, then ... then ask the people at Molly’s. Everyone there will confirm it to you. "
Could it be that Susan was wrong? But why had she made the whole thing sound like Kelly had something with Shay? Susan had asked around, hadn't she?
What was going on here?
“So if Kelly called you again,” Shay continued, “would you answer your phone? Please, he misses you terribly. "
Okay, Shay did a really perfect job with the puppy eyes; and you couldn't help but laugh.
"Yes . I ... I don't know. Maybe ... yes ... probably ... "you stuttered.
You really didn't know.
All of this was just too much information at once. You had to process everything you just heard first.
Shay let go of your arm and after a quick nod of your head you turned around and started walking back to your car.
---
Kelly was sitting in the kitchen, unwillingly poking around at his food. He actually had no appetite, but if he wanted to be fit for his work, he had to eat something. His body was like a machine, and a machine also needed fuel to function.
Shay hadn't been gone long. And when the young woman came through the door of the shared apartment, Kelly looked at her full of hope, but also fearful.
"And," he wanted to know when she entered the kitchen.
"I spoke with her."
"But?"
"But ...", Shay sighed, "I'm not sure if she believed me."
Kelly looked down sadly and began poking at his food again. It hurt Shay's soul to see her best friend so dejected.
Slowly she walked over to him and took Kelly in her arms, who immediately leaned towards her.
“Just try calling her tonight. First, give her time to think about what she learned today. Perhaps ..."
She stopped, she didn't know what was going to happen. She prayed fervently that your meeting got the ball rolling. She didn't know whether you would want to speak to him, but hope always died last.
---
The sun was slowly setting and the night cast its dark shadows over the houses of Chicago. Still lost in thought, you lay slumped on the couch and stared at the television.
You didn't really notice what was going on there. Not until your cell phone rang.
The sound of that ringtone made you nervous. It was Kelly.
Undecided whether you should really take this call, your thumb hovered over the screen for a few seconds.
Did you want to talk to him?
The woman by the lake today had given you a lot to think about.
This was one of those moments that set the course for the future. You knew that.
After taking another deep breath, you finally answered the call before it was diverted to voicemail.
"Hello," you said in a nervous voice.
"Hey, (Y/N). It's good to hear your voice. "
You couldn't help smiling, it was nice to hear his too.
“I would like to talk to you about what happened. If you have time. Please."
You nervously nibbled your thumbnail as you stood up and began to pace restlessly around your apartment.
"Kelly, I ..."
You had absolutely no idea what to say.
When you tried to sit down on the windowsill you saw something that you had not expected.
He was across the street. Kelly Severide.
He had the cell phone to his ear and looked up at your apartment.
Even at this distance you could tell how downcast he was.
It hurt to see him like that.
"I have time."
With these words you ended the call and went down to him. He had known what you were up to and was now waiting in front of your door. There was a sad tinge to his blue eyes, he really seemed to be suffering.
You stood in silence for a few moments. You had your arms wrapped almost protectively around you and looked shyly at him.
"I know Shay spoke to you," he finally began.
"Yes she has. And ... she ... she told me a lot. "
Did he send Shay to you? As a last act of desperation?
“Do you want to know what happened back then? The night Susan saw me and Shay how we disappeared from Molly’s? "
Nervously, your gaze wandered back and forth between his eyes as you nibbled the inside of your cheek. Deep down you hoped to be able to believe him that what he would tell you now.
"We were all at Molly’s, all colleagues from firehouse 51. It was just an evening as usual when your friend showed up."
"Susan."
"Yes, Susan. She hadn't been there for five minutes before she started hitting on me. I tried to make it clear to her that I am not interested in her and that she should look for someone else. But she was absolutely persistent. So I made it clear to her that I wasn't interested in her and that that wasn't going to change either. Because I've already found the right one. "
At these words your heart skipped a beat. Your breathing got faster. Did you understand him correctly now?
“At some point the whole thing got too stupid for me and I went home with Shay. She's my best friend you gotta know. She is my family. "
You couldn't believe it. Why had Susan made the whole thing sound so different. As if he was cheating on you, and now it seemed like Susan had tried to seduce him.
That your girlfriend could be so deceitful and fake was hard to understand. A lonely tear rolled down your cheek, but it didn't get far before you defiantly wiped it away.
"I thought you ...", you started, but could not finish the sentence.
"I know, but you're the only one for me," he replied, stepping right up to you.
He gently wiped another tear from your cheek before slowly leaning down and sealing your lips with his.
It was like waking up from a nightmare. As if the prince had kissed Sleeping Beauty awake. It felt like fireworks in every single cell in your body. The kiss itself was tender and slow, almost cautious, as if he didn't want to overwhelm you now.
His three-day beard scratched your cheek lightly, but in a strangely pleasant way. You put your hands on the back of his neck and your fingers found their way into the short hair on the back of his head.
Your kiss became deeper and deeper, while your mutual passion rocked more and more, like waves in an approaching storm.
Tenderly his tongue wandered down your lower lip, as if it were hesitantly asking for admission. You granted him this instantly and before you could even form a clear thought, your tongues danced in absolute harmony.
It wasn't about dominance or claiming someone as a partner. Quite the opposite, rather it was about merging two parts of a whole into one unit.
When you finally had to part for more than a necessary breath, he leaned his forehead against yours. Both of our breaths were only intermittent.
Somehow you made it into your apartment, but you couldn't quite explain how exactly. But you were grateful for it before your neighbors called the police about causing a public nuisance. Because you both gradually lost all inhibitions.
You wouldn't make it into the bedroom, but luckily you had a large couch.
You weren't a virgin anymore, but you weren't exactly experienced in these things with just one previous sexual partner. But you knew Kelly had a lot of experience.
What if he didn't like it with you? What if you weren't good enough?
But before your thoughts could get caught in a downward spiral, Kelly's lips were back on yours, more passionate and demanding than before. His arms, still tightly closed around you, pulled you closer to him before slowly wandering around.
As your hands buried deeper and deeper in his hair, one of his slipped down your hips and slowly under your shirt. When it touched your bare skin just above your tailbone, your whole body responded.
The place between your legs contracted longingly, and a slight moan escaped your lips when you wanted nothing more than to be touched by him right there.
Without thinking about it, your hands went on a wandering tour. You could feel his pronounced muscles under his shirt. Kelly had to look like one of those carved marble statues.
He slowly navigated you backwards onto the couch until you were finally under him and he was above you, propped up on his forearms. Again your hands were on the back of his neck and you tried to pull him closer to you than he already was.
The need to merge with him and to become one was indescribably strong and you couldn't and didn't want to defend yourself against it.
It was an absolutely intoxicating feeling to feel his excitement as it pressed forcefully against your thigh. With slightly shaky hands, your hands wandered under his shirt and pushed it up a bit.
Kelly peeled his lips from yours briefly to pull his shirt over his head. Hardly a moment later it was already on your floor.
The sight of his bare torso let a new wave of pleasure wander through your body and barely a moment later his lips were back on yours. But not for long.
Slowly he left hot wet kisses across your jaw, down to your artery and down to that one point in the hollow of your throat.
It was almost like he knew exactly where that point was. And when he started kissing you there and nibbling at it, your level of pleasure had risen many times over.
With a lustful moan you threw your head back to give him even better access.
But before you could really let your hands wander over his body again to explore every single spot, his hands wandered up your upper body and took the hem of your shirt with them on their way.
You knew what he was up to. Kelly pulled away from you and pulled your shirt over your head with one flowing movement. The fact that you didn't wear a bra after your shower today only helped the whole thing here.
As soon as you lay on your back again, his lips were back on your body and wandered down your collarbone with passionate kisses. You were moaning almost pornographically when he finally closed his lips around one of your nipples and began to alternately suck and nibble on it.
You had buried your hands in his hair long ago and when another lustful wave ran through your body like an electric shock, your grip tightened.
When you pulled his hair so unintentionally, a lustful moan escaped Kelly as well. That made a knowing smile flicker over your parted lips.
"Please," you whispered when you could barely stand this sweet torture.
"Please what," replied the man above you as he gleefully devoted himself to your other nipple, which was already stretching out cheekily towards him.
You were barely able to form a coherent sentence. But his grin told you that he knew exactly what you wanted.
Slowly but steadily he approached the place where you wanted to feel him most wistfully at this moment. His lips left a trail of hot, passionate kisses as he undid your jeans and freed you from the last bit of material that separated you from him.
Breathing heavily, you lay under him and looked into his blue eyes while he kneeled on his heels between your legs. His pupils were dilated with pleasure, which made them look almost dark.
Slowly he let his hands run up your thighs as light as a feather until he finally got where you wanted his touch more than anything else.
Slowly his fingers parted your silky triangle, and even you could feel how wet you were already for him. And when he finally penetrated you with one of his fingers, your body finally switched to autopilot.
You could no longer think clearly, only feel; and what you felt were ever bigger waves of pleasure that he chased through your body with every movement of his hand.
When he inserted another finger into you and bent it at exactly the right angle, you knew that it would not be long before this familiar feeling would make itself felt in the middle of your body.
This knot that kept building up until it broke like an overstretched elastic band and would catapult you into absolute ecstasy.
You were breathing heavily and you were only focused on feeling what his knowing touches could trigger in your body. But when his lips closed suddenly around your lust pearl and began to suck on it rhythmically, you could no longer hold back and began to moan unabashedly. It almost sounded like second rate porn.
You had never before experienced something as intense as in this moment. Kelly seemed to know exactly what you wanted, what you liked.
Your orgasm rolled in at an unprecedented speed and was about to drag you with it when you tore yourself away from Kelly in a sheer act of desperation and brought some distance between him and you.
He looked at you questioningly. You had propped yourself up on your arms and were now lying in front of him, half upright and breathing heavily. It took a moment before you were able to utter a word.
"Not like that," you whispered almost tonelessly, hoping fervently that he understood what you meant.
But the grin that spread across his face told you that he understood exactly what you meant.
Without saying a word, his hands powerfully grabbed your hips and pulled you back to him. Hardly a moment later his face was above yours and you could feel his breath on your lips.
"Believe me, this will not be the only time that you will come for me."
The deep baritone of his voice made you shiver all over your body. At his intense gaze, the core of your body contracted almost painfully, in their desperate attempt to fill the void his fingers had left in you.
And when he kissed you passionately again, you could taste yourself on his tongue.
Suddenly his fingers penetrated you again and with knowing movements they finished what they couldn't accomplish moments before.
All of a sudden you were swept over the blissful cliff by a huge tsunami and you clung to Kelly like a drowning woman as your orgasm spread through your body in ever stronger waves.
When this indescribable feeling finally subsided, you lay on the couch breathing heavily and slowly tried to come back to yourself. The emotions that flowed through your body made it incredibly difficult for you to have a clear thought.
When you finally opened your eyes, Kelly was half on top of you, watching you with a gentle smile.
Even if you had just returned from the highest heights, you wanted more. You wanted him .
His hard member was still pressing against your thigh and it was clear to you how painfully constricting his jeans had to be for him by now.
Without thinking about it you wanted to free him from this prison, but before you could open the top button, he held your hands.
You looked at him confused.
But Kelly just looked deep into your eyes.
"Are you sure you want that," he asked, looking at you carefully.
You couldn't believe it. He would forego his own pleasure if you said no now.
"I want" was all you could say, "I want you. All of you."
Kelly kissed you passionately in an instant before pulling away from you and peeling off the rest of his clothes.
Before he slipped between your legs, he slipped on a condom that he had taken from the pocket of his jeans.
You don't need any more words between you, you knew what the other was feeling. You fit together like two sides of a coin. And when he leaned his forehead against yours as he slowly entered you, you truly became one.
It just felt perfect. Nobody had stretched you like this before and when he finally began to move slowly but deeply inside you, you knew that he would be able to keep his promise without any problems.
Instinctively you wrapped your legs around his waist, pulling him even deeper.
His thrusts became more and more passionate and you could feel that familiar knot in your stomach again, how it slowly tightened more and more. It was clear to you that it would not be long before you would come again.
But this time it was different, you had never felt anything like it before, and when this knot in your stomach suddenly burst without any warning, Kelly was carried away by the force of your orgasm.
With every new wave, the muscles in you contracted, while the man above you, breathing heavily and pouring his hot seeds into this thin latex skin with every new wave of his ecstasy.
She still didn't speak a word when he lay down beside you, exhausted but blissfully, after getting rid of this uncomfortable and now superfluous latex thing. Hardly a moment later he had already pulled you into his arms and now you lay with your head on his chest and heard how slowly but steadily his heartbeat returned to normal.
And just before you fell asleep, you heard his voice very softly.
"I love you."

Summary: What was it that Susan did? A little review of things you don't know ...
Warnings: a sneaky, scheming bitch who claims to be your best friend (is that a warning?)

Susan had always been very confident. She was a woman who could have any man she wanted. And she took every man she wanted, even if she sometimes had to work with unfair means for it.
And she wanted Kelly Severide. This impressive example of a firefighter. He was exactly what she always wanted. Tall, with broad shoulders, deep blue eyes, and his dark hair, which had already been lightened by a few strands of white, made him simply irresistible for Susan.
You'd got in her way in an unforeseen way, but that wasn't something that couldn't be fixed. Susan knew what Kelly's reputation was like. This man almost never said no to any onenight stand. So why should this banter with you be serious? Especially considering that he could have her.
It would only be the restoration of natural order if he turned away from you and turned towards her. Susan was tall, slim, with long blonde hair that was always perfectly styled. She was just everything a man could dream of.
Susan was sure of that.
What she had not expected, however, was the rebuff she had earned. And with the best will in the world, she couldn't let that sit on her. Susan knew what your self-esteem was like and how easy it was to make you feel insecure. It had been easy to convince you that Kelly wasn't serious about you. That you were just a toy to him.
She knew that you could never forgive such a breach of trust, because of your upbringing and your sense of honor you were not able to do so.
The truth didn't matter here, because just because of Kelly's reputation, you wouldn't listen to him, let alone believe his version of the story.
By chance, Susan found out that you were going to cancel your date with Kelly today. You said something about overtime and lack of sleep. But she hadn't really listened to you on your phone call.
Because immediately she had started planning what she would do tonight. After all, she had to take this opportunity to convince Kelly that he had picked the wrong woman.
Friendship or not, even you had to admit to yourself that you would never stand a chance against Susan. Susan just had to make that clear to you again.
Shortly before half past nine in the evening, Susan entered Molly’s. She knew he would be here tonight too. And she should be right.
Susan didn't have to look around for long, because he was at the bar as usual. In his hand was a beer bottle that he sipped occasionally.
As a precaution, Susan had thrown herself into a killer outfit, a low-cut blouse, tight skinny jeans and red high heels. Her long blonde hair fell down her back in gentle waves.
She looked like a rock star.
And luck seemed to be on her side, because Kelly was alone. With the loveliest smile she was capable of and the look of a shy deer, she walked purposefully towards the tall, dark-haired man.
"Mind if I sit down with you?"
"This is a free country, you can sit down wherever you want."
Susan smiled kindly at Kelly, and noticed that he gave her a smile as well as he studied her carefully. It seemed to be getting easier than she thought.
"My name is Susan."
"Kelly."
"Nice to meet you, Kelly."
Kelly wondered desperately how this woman looked familiar to him. But couldn't remember where he'd met her before. All he knew was that he had seen her before. Wasn't she the woman who'd been after Cruz?
"I know you, you come here a lot, don't you?" He finally asked.
"Yes. It's just a very nice bar, and the people here are exceptionally nice. "
Kelly smiled briefly again and then took a sip of his beer. He actually wanted to meet you today, but you had to work longer. And as exhausted as you were, you wanted to go to bed earlier today than usual.
He understood that you needed your rest sometimes, even if he would have preferred to spend the evening with you rather than alone at Molly’s.
"What do you do for a living, Kelly," Susan asked in her lovely voice, tearing him out of his thoughts.
She knew very well what job the man was doing across from her, but as a poor little bunny she had more of a chance with this type of man. Such men always wanted to be the savior. They liked to bask in their image as knights in shining armor.
"I'm a firefighter."
"Really? So, you run into burning houses and save helpless women and children? "
"I help everyone who needs help, whether man, woman or child."
"Fascinating. How long have you been with the fire department? "
"Since my birth."
Susan smiled at him with the most seductive look she was capable of. It wasn't that bad at all. She played with the straw in the drink she had ordered from the bartender. Not much longer and this man would be hers.
“I have always found this heroism impressive. Are you not afraid of anything? "
"Something like that would be fatal in my job."
"Why did you become a firefighter when I am allowed to ask."
"Well, my father was already in the fire department, so you could say it runs in my blood."
Susan moved a bit closer to Kelly, she was sure they would both be leaving this bar together in a few minutes, and definetly they would try to get in each other's pants.
"What else is in their blood, Kelly," she whispered to him and gently stroked the back of his hand with the tip of her index finger.
Kelly wasn't so sure what she was getting at. Did this woman think he would go home with her tonight? Okay, he would certainly have done it a few weeks ago, but a lot had changed lately, he had changed.
“Look,” he finally began, “I know what you're up to, but it's definitely not going to happen. I have a girlfriend."
These words were like a declaration of war to Susan, but she didn't give up yet.
"Well," she whispered to him, "what the eye does not see, the heart does not grieve over, right?"
Okay, so this woman had clearly crossed a line. Kelly would never cheat on you. Before that, pigs would learn to fly.
"Are you serious now?" Kelly asked incredulously.
He couldn't believe what was happening here. What was that supposed to mean? Who did this woman think she was?
She was getting far too intrusive for his taste, but luckily Shay just walked into the bar.
Without a word, Kelly got up and hugged his roommate more than warmly.
Shay returned his hug, surprised by this exuberant greeting.
“And hello to you too, Kelly. Everything okay?"
“Sorry, but I couldn't think of anything else in a hurry. I have the feeling that if I don't get out of here as quickly as possible, the blonde at the bar will be busy with my pants. "
"What if you just say 'no'?"
Kelly looked at Shay like he couldn't believe what she'd just said.
"Okay, judging by your look, you already have that."
Shay looked at her best friend skeptically, she didn't know that kind of behavior from him. Usually Kelly was the last one to miss a one night stand, but he seemed to be serious about it right now.
Was that because of the little redhead he'd been seeing lately?
Smiling, she looked at Kelly, and took some money out of her pocket without actually peeling away from him.
Out of the corner of her eye, Shay could see all too well how angry this blonde was getting. If looks could kill, the paramedic would be lying dead on Molly’s floor by now.
With a sure of victory smile, Shay put the money on the counter.
"Come on," she said to Kelly and winked at him meaningfully, "let's go somewhere private."
Not having to be told twice, Kelly put his arm around her waist and left the bar with his rescuer.
Susan stayed at the bar and looked at them both in disgust and reek of anger.
She couldn't and wouldn't let such a rebuff sit on her. Now it was clear to her once and for all what she had to do to get this man into her bed.
She had to get rid of you, no matter how. And she already knew very well how to do it.
---
Shay and Kelly had driven home to their apartment without saying a word on the way. Kelly was too busy thinking about you, and Shay's mind was racing as she watched her roommate suspiciously.
She had never seen him like this before.
Kelly seemed really serious about you. He really fell in love with you.
In any other case Kelly would have tried to lure the tall blonde woman from earlier into his bed.
Shay couldn't help but get to the bottom of it. The two had vowed once during a night of partying to stay out of each other's private life, but she just had to know.
Shay took another sip of the tequila she had opened as soon as they arrived at the shared apartment before she turned to Kelly.
"Okay, now do you want to explain to me what's going on here? Since when do I have to save you from women? You don't normally miss an opportunity to get one in bed? "
Kelly stared pensively at the bottle in his hand while a noticeably widening smile spread across his lips.
This has always happened lately when he thought of you.
It was strange how much he missed you right now. You only saw each other yesterday.
Everything was so different with you. It almost felt like he'd found the other half of himself with you.
You were just the yin to his yang.
"Well, things have changed, Shay."
"I think it was the little redhead who changed you."
Kelly had to nod with a grin. Yes, you changed him. For the first time he saw a future together with a woman. He wished for a future together with you.
A house, a white garden fence, children, maybe even a dog, growing old together. Everything that made him panic earlier, he now wished for with you.
“She did. With her, none of this is important. "
Shay was staring at her roommate almost in disbelief.
Who was this man and what had he done to her best friend?
Did Kelly mean what she thought she understood?
Haven't you two had sex yet?
That was not at all the behavior that Kelly normally exhibited at his acquaintances.
"Moment. Just ... just that I get it right now. You both already have ... I mean ... you know ... right? "
"We haven't had sex yet, if that's what you mean."
Now Shay was staring at him with her mouth wide open. She might have expected a lot, but definitely not a confession like that.
"Kelly Severide, I don't even know you like that," she said, grinning, shaking her head, “Has there really definitely been nothing going on between you? And don't lie to me now! "
"Well, we kissed, but otherwise ... absolutely nothing," he smiled, slightly embarrassed.
Shay was amazed at how much Kelly had changed.
You seemed really good for him. Apparently, he had finally found the right one.
Now Kelly just couldn't screw it up.
---
Susan just couldn't believe it. In all seriousness Kelly had actually turned her off because of you.
What was that supposed to mean?
A gray mouse like you weren't fit enough to hold a candle for her. Already optically.
That firefighter should have noticed that too.
Susan was mad. If she couldn't have Kelly, then neither should you have him.
Come whatever may.
After all, in love and in war everything was allowed.
Although love was too strong a term here. Susan's motive was more lust than love.
And as gullible as you were, it wouldn't be particularly difficult to separate the two of you anyway.
Susan just had to tell you that Kelly was living with someone else. Which, seen in this way, wasn't a lie. She just had to make it sound like Kelly and his blonde paramedic were a couple. But Susan didn't have to tell you that this woman was actually a lesbian.
You wouldn't doubt any of her words, you were friends after all, BFF. In the end, you'd break up with Kelly and almost certainly never speak to him again.
Susan knew rumors could break the neck of anyone.
Especially Kelly, who had the explicit reputation of a philanderer. Rumor had it that he'd slept his way through half of Chicago's beds anyway.
Once Susan spoke to you, whatever relationship the two of you were in would be a thing of the past.
Kelly would probably be devastated, but Susan would be by his side to comfort him.
Sex could work wonders for broken hearts, and she would be only too happy to volunteer for it.

Kelly sat pensively in front of firehouse 51 and stared at the Chicago skyline. He was terribly worried about you. For four days there has been absolute radio silence. Again and again he tried to call you. Frequently spoke on your mailbox and also sent you a number of messages.
But you hadn't responded to a single one.
He had already driven to your apartment twice, but even then you had not responded to him or simply weren't there.
What on earth was going on?
Did he do something wrong?
He just didn't understand what had happened.
Shay and Dawson had spent the past two hours counting and refilling their ambulance equipment when Dawson's gaze wandered to the black-haired lieutenant.
"What's going on with Severide lately," she wanted to know from Shay.
"He can't reach (Y/N)."
"Whom?"
"(Y/N). The redhead with whom he ... "
"... with whom he has already been to Molly’s several times? Is there something going on between them, ”Dawson Shay interrupted.
"Now don't pretend you haven't noticed."
"What happened? Has Severide screwed up yet? "
“Not that I know of, but apparently she hasn't responded to his calls for a few days. Do you think something happened to her? "
"No, definitely not," Dawson laughed sarcastically.
"And how do you want to know that?"
“Because I saw her in town yesterday. She was out with friends. Shopping trip or something like that. Believe me, she's fine. If you ask me, Severide screwed up everything again. After all, it wouldn't be the first time, ”said Dawson and left the vehicle hangar.
Shay nibbled her thumbnail thoughtfully as she glanced over at her best friend. Kelly had never been particularly lucky in choosing his girlfriends. But that was mostly due to the fact that the respective protagonists weren't particularly clever.
But you seemed different from any other woman before you. What just happened between you guys? You were so happy, weren't you?
Shay was now very worried about Kelly. She had never seen him like this before.
"Everything's okay," she wanted to know as she sat down next to him.
"Not really."
"No response from (Y/N)?"
"No. I am sure I didn’t do anything wrong. Why does she just not get in touch with me? "
Shay didn't have the opportunity to answer him, because the alarm went on and they were called to a new mission.
"Truck 81, Rescue Squad 3, Engine 51, Ambulance 61. Train accident"
"We just needed that so close to the end of the day," Shay grumbled.
"Well," said Kelly with a shrug, "let's go."
It didn't take the crew from firehouse 51 long to arrive on site. Still, Kelly thought about the situation he was in for the entire drive.
Could he have caused this whole mess himself? Consciously or Subconsciously?
The road to the scene made a slight curve and when the Rescue Squad 3 truck passed it Kelly saw what a challenge was waiting for them.
It was a battlefield. There were injured people everywhere, screaming, whimpering, and calling for help. The stench of charred flesh and blood was in the air. Two passenger trains collided head-on. Almost all of the wagons were derailed, and some were on fire.
It was almost a miracle that there were survivors at all.
Kelly immediately pushed aside all unnecessary thoughts. Here and now he needed his full concentration. Followed by his colleagues, Kelly jumped out of the truck and grabbed his gear.
“Capp, you and Mills go to the train car on the far left, work your way up piece by piece. Tony, you come with me. "
Ambulance 61 had also arrived, and the two paramedics felt sick at the thought of what was in store for them in the next few hours.
"OK. Let's start. Shay, our assembly point is over there. We have more injuries than first responders. We need to set up triage. Where are the marks,” Dawson called when she had a quick overview.
"I'll get them!" Shay called to her as Dawson made her way to the first injured.
No sooner had the blonde paramedic fetched the marks for the triage than she set off and began to classify the injured into the designated categories.
“Green - slight injury. If you can go, your assembly point is over there!"
"Red - acute injury. Take him back there, I'll be right there! Central when the next ambulance will arrive, we have hundreds of injuries here. We also need emergency doctors and probably trauma surgeons too! "
“The ambulances are on their way. ETA in about fifteen minutes. All doctors available were alerted! "
Shay looked around desperately. How are they supposed to manage all of this? There were just too many victims and too few helpers.
A few meters away she just saw Kelly climbing into one of the wagons before continuing through the rows of injured people. She divided as many as she could into the different categories. Unfortunately, she had to distribute black marks far too often. Because the people were already dead, or because they couldn't make it to the hospital in their condition.
It was as if the gate to hell had opened here.
Kelly and Tony had climbed into one of the wagons in the meantime. At first sight it was clear to them that there were probably no survivors here. Almost the entire interior was devastated and the two firefighters had difficulty finding their way through this chaos.
There was rubble everywhere, traversed by pieces of luggage and isolated body parts. The passengers the two found were no longer alive.
When they were almost at the other end of the car, Kelly heard a noise. It almost sounded like a whimper. Immediately the lieutenant of Rescue Squad 3 started looking. Somebody was still alive somewhere in this chaos.
There was chaos outside the wagons as well. Dozens of injured people were lying close together at the various assembly points.
"Gabriela Dawson?", Dawson heard a voice behind her at the assembly point not far from the accident site as she was tending to a broken leg.
Confused, she turned and looked into a familiar face, Dr. David Arata. Gaby had volunteered with him once when she actually wanted to study medicine.
"Dr. Arata ?! "
“I am glad to see you here, Gabriela. Now at least I know that someone here knows what she's doing. "
“There are too many injured, where are the ambulances? Where are the other doctors? ”She asked him desperately.
"There was a huge rear-end collision on the 45th. We're alone here for the time being!"
The young paramedic couldn't believe it. How could this have happened? The day got worse and worse. Unable to change the situation, she went back to work.
After examining two more seriously injured people, she heard a radio message aimed at her.
"Dawson for Severide"
"Dawson here"
“We have a young woman here in her twenties. Right foot is trapped, we can't get it out. We urgently need a trauma surgeon here. We are in the third car from train 2. "
Seeking help, she looked at the doctor who was in the process of dressing a child's gaping abdominal wound.
"Dr. Arata! "
“I heard it, but first I have to help the child here. The woman will have to wait a moment. "
"He's on his way to see you," Dawson said into her radio.
Two minutes later, Dr. Arata took his bag and ran in the direction of the described wagon.
Where should he go again now? The older doctor made his way through the dead and injured, some of whom were still waiting for help. Before he ran to a fireman who was standing in front of one of the wagons and waving impatiently at him.
"Are you the trauma surgeon?" He asked annoyed.
"Yeah, so where is she?"
Tony, who had been waiting for the doctor, helped him climb into the car. It didn't look any better inside than outside. The corpses of the passengers were still sitting in some armchairs, staked, sometimes without limbs or beheaded. A sight that none of the helpers would soon forget.
"Severide?"
“Back here! Where is the trauma surgeon? "
“I'm already there, so what do we have?” Asked Dr. Arata when he fought his way through to them.
"Victim female, around twenty, is no longer conscious, we can not get her right foot free."
Dr. Arata leaned over the blonde woman and examined her briefly. She was stable and had a good chance of survival; only her right foot was buried under tons of metal.
“When is the next ambulance coming?” Asked Dr. Arata in an emotionless voice.
Kelly picked up the radio.
"Dawson for Severide."
"Dawson here."
"When is the next ambulance ready?"
"Coming in about five minutes, why?"
Kelly looked at the doctor, who seemed to think twice, then nodded.
"It's ours!"
"Roger that!"
Dr. Arata was already cutting the young woman's pants before he began to amputate her leg without a word. Every grip was perfect, every movement was perfect, he was a surgeon through and through.
When he finally finished and poorly bandaged the stump, it was very quiet in the car.
"So now you can get her out and get her to the ambulance asap. I'll be out if you should need me again."
With these words he got up and left the car without giving any of the firefighters another look.
---
You've been sitting at your desk for hours working on the same case. But somehow you just got stuck. You were tired and your concentration was also limited.
Again and again your thoughts drifted to Kelly.
How could you have been so wrong about him?
You couldn't believe you fell for him so badly.
Why couldn't you even be lucky with the men?
Why did you have to fall in love with this firefighter straight away?
In all honesty, you had no idea how deep your feelings had been for Kelly Severide until the time he broke your heart.
You had hardly eaten in the past few days, which in turn did not have a particularly good effect on your general condition. But you just had no appetite.
You just felt empty, tired, and infinitely sad. So it just didn't make sense to go on working. You couldn't concentrate anymore anyway.
So you turned off your computer, grabbed your purse, and headed home.
When you left the office you said to your assistant Jen that you would not feel comfortable. Maybe you would get sick right now.
The flu was a much better explanation than lovesickness, so no one would be surprised if you stayed home tomorrow.
---
Kelly sat silently on the couch in his apartment and sipped his beer. He just didn't feel like going anywhere.
Shay tried to persuade him to come to Molly’s, but he just wasn't interested in seeing anyone.
Nobody. Only you.
But you still hadn't called or sent a message, and that pained him immensely. Even more so now than Shay had told him Dawson had seen you in town.
You seemed fine, but he was going through hell.
What just happened ?
Everything seemed to be going well, didn't it?
He used to always somehow ruin his relationships. But this time he was sure he hadn't done anything wrong.
But why didn't you answer the phone or respond to one of his messages?
Why didn't you want to talk to him anymore?
Why don't you call him back?
He'd been racking his brains for hours, but he just couldn't get it. He just had to talk to you.
When he had taken the last sip of his beer and firmly placed the bottle on the table, he got up and went to his car. He just had to ask you what happened.
Why you ignored him?
He just had to know.
--
It was five days ago that evening at Flanagan's and you were still busy ignoring Kelly. It's hard to believe how persistent he was. He tried again every day.
Why the hell didn't he get the hint?
Before your phone could ring one more time, you had to get out of here. You just couldn't stand it in your apartment anymore. And you finally had to talk to someone. Get rid of all of your frustration and grief.
Normally you would have called your sister, but she was in New York on business. That's how you called your brother.
You badly needed a shoulder to cry on now, and who better to do that than Jimmy. Also at the risk of Jimmy going to Kelly to break his nose, kneecap, or anything else.
Big brothers were like that, at least if they were Irish.
You didn't tell him what it was about on your phone call. I didn't want you to have to explain everything on the phone. When Jimmy heard your voice, he didn't ask any more questions, but got in the car to get you.
He wanted to have a drink with you at Flanagan's and hopefully some food. He had also noticed that you had hardly eaten anything.
You paced restlessly in your apartment when the doorbell rang.
Without looking who it was, you took your jacket and left the house. But it wasn't Jimmy waiting for you downstairs, it was Kelly.
You had just missed that.
And you were far from prepared for this confrontation.
"What's wrong with you? I've been trying to reach you all week! "
He sounded upset, but everyone could see the sheer despair in his eyes. However, you did not notice any of this. You were just pissed off and disappointed by this man who was standing in front of you now.
"Just leave me alone and get out of here," you hissed.
"What are you talking about, I don't understand ..."
As if on cue, your brother's car turned the corner. You take a deep breath. You knew if there was a moment to speak up, it was now. Your brother would definitely have your back.
“Susan told me all about you and your blonde friend. And don't try to talk your way out of it now. You even live together! For ages! What was I? A distraction? A bet? A means of fueling your relationship. I'm so fed up with you. So please just get lost."
"(Y/N), listen, you get it wrong ..." he tried to explain, but you interrupted him.
“You know what, you can save yourself your explanations. I don't care anymore. Just get out of my life. The best thing to do is to forget that I exist,” you shouted at him.
You were so mad at Kelly that you almost hit him.
"Is everything okay (Y/N/N)?" Your brother called from across the street.
He got out of his car and was about to come to you. He had never seen you so angry and upset before. Jimmy was worried, he didn't know what he was watching.
You turned around and were about to go to him when Kelly took your hand.
"(Y/N) please wait," he pleaded desperately.
You tear yourself away powerfully, just disgusted by the man who had so deceived you. You glared at him with hateful eyes.
"You know what," you said and your voice shook with anger, "fuck you Severide!"
With these words you crossed the street and without a word got into your brother's car.
Kelly looked after you in silence and with tears in her eyes.
What was Susan telling you?
Who are you talking about?
About Shay?
He finally realized what the problem was here.
You didn't know anything about his or Shay's living conditions. He don't know why, but you and Shay haven't met yet.
And after Susan's action at Molly’s the other day, it was clear that she must have told you about it. At least her version of what happened.
He was an idiot. Why hadn't he played with his cards up straight away?
Shay was his best friend. She was like a sister to him!
If you didn't know that she was a lesbian, however, you could have misunderstood a thing or two.
There was nothing more he could do here. You wouldn't listen to him anymore.
But maybe you would listen to Shay. She was his last hope now.
---
You and your brother had been sitting at the bar for a while now. Your third whiskey was in front of you, and so far you hadn't eaten much apart from a few chips.
You both had hardly talked either. Too much was buzzing around in your head for that.
"So, are you going to tell me what's going on now?", Jimmy finally said and took your hand in his, "I'm getting worried, little one. And not just because you are clearly drinking too much. And who the hell was that guy earlier? "
Tears ran softly down your cheeks. You actually met your brother to talk. But now the words got stuck in your throat.
Your heart screamed in pain just at the thought of having to review the past few weeks again.
Without a word you took a sip of your whiskey and then looked at your brother, who gave you a worried look. You could no longer remain silent, and after the first hesitant words it just gushed out of you.
You told him everything. Starting with your first meeting at Molly’s, the rescue from the fire in the office, the reunion in the park. You told him in every detail.
Jimmy just sat there holding your hand in his and listening to you.
What else could he have done?
When you finally got to the end of your story, you looked at Jimmy. He wasn't angry or quick-tempered, but rather thoughtful. You didn't expect such a reaction, rather that he would take his hurling stick to break a few kneecaps.
“If I may be honest (Y/N/N)”, he finally began and brushed a strand of hair from your face, “the man who was standing in front of your door today…. he didn't look like he'd cheated on you with another woman. He seemed rather desperate and scared because he was losing you. Please don't get me wrong, you know, if it's necessary I like to break the nose of such guys when it comes to my little sister, but this guy”, he shook his head,“ I don't know…. he didn't look like he wasn't being honest with you. (Y/N/N), I think he really loves you. "
Thoughtfully, you took a sip of your whiskey. Could he be right?
Perhaps, as an outsider, he had seen something that you had not noticed.
"And what should I do now?" You asked Jimmy and you could hear all your desperation in your voice.
“Maybe you will listen to his version. Remember (Y/N/N), every story has two sides. "

This Sunday was wonderfully sunny again. The whole family has always come together every Sunday. There was always a lot to eat, to laugh about and to talk about. However, the whole thing has now degenerated into a small folk festival. After all, your siblings already had children.
The little ones romped around in your parents' garden while the adults talked about hurling. Although you were a huge pack by American standards, you would only have passed as a small family in Ireland.
The few hours of sleep you had were nowhere near enough. Now you got to your parents a bit crumpled up.
Unfortunately, you were a little late. You still hoped that your makeup would cover up last night's events well and that no one would see the dark circles under your eyes.
Everyone was sitting in the garden, your dad was taking care of the grill, and your mum was busy making sure everyone was fine and comfortable.
"Hi guys," you said when you came into the garden.
“Hey, you're late. Where have you been? ”Your brother wanted to know.
"Sorry, I must have overslept," you tried to apologize.
"Long night," Shannon wanted to know.
"Oh, I just slept badly somehow, I don't know."
You really tried not to let it show, but your big sister Shannon had known you for ages. So it was easy for her to interpret your embarrassed expression just right.
You may have slept badly, but you definitely didn't get to bed until after midnight, and it was definitely a man's fault. Shannon didn't mention that at first, though. Why should she? Sooner or later you'd tell her everything anyway.
All she had to do was be patient.
It was colorful, loud and funny in the garden. Everyone told what they were up to in the next week, and plans were made to fly to Ireland again to visit the grandparents and the rest of the relatives. You weren't really into it, though. Again and again your thoughts drifted to yesterday evening and this kiss.
You were smiling pensively when your niece, Kathy, suddenly pulled you out of your thoughts. She wanted to show you the new steps she had learned in the Irish Dance Academy. Apart from that, she wanted to know if you were ever going to take part in a competition again.
“I don't know,” you said with a laugh, “I think I'm getting too old for that. Apart from that, I haven't danced for more than two years. "
"But grandma told me you always won these competitions, aunt (Y/N/N)."
“I was fifteen then. I don't think I would have any great chances now. But I'll be happy to come to your next Feis and I will cheer you on, I promise. "
"Hey (Y/N/N) can you help me, please," you heard a voice from the kitchen and, helpful as you were, you made your way.
---
It was just before noon when the men of Rescue Squad 3 returned from a mission. Even if Kelly had only slept a few hours, he was less exhausted than he would have expected. His breakfast had only consisted of two cups of black coffee and now he was getting hungry.
Since Mills was accepted into the Rescue Squad, he has refused to do kitchen duty. Unfortunately, that meant that someone else was always responsible for the food at Firehouse 51.
Today it was Cruz's turn, and he was looking forward to trying one of his recipes again. But only he was looking forward to his creation. His cooking was, shall we say, not for the general taste and the rest of the firefighters longed for the delicate dishes that Mills had always served them. Even the smell that was wafting towards Kelly and the others wasn't exactly that good. The men of the Rescue Squad looked at each other in silence, wondering if they should really do this to themselves. Perhaps it would be better, and by far safer, to organize something to eat at the sandwich shop further down the street.
“Hey guys, I'm cooking you a Creole sausage stew with jalapeños and coconut milk. You'll be amazed at such a fine meal. "
"We can't wait, Cruz," said Kelly, rolling her eyes.
He quickly grabbed an apple and sat down with his colleagues from the Rescue Squad at their table outside by the trucks.
“Hey Lieutenant,” Capp began, “who was the redhead you disappeared with from Molly’s last night? New flame, or what? "
Kelly couldn't help but smile. It always happened to him when he thought about you.
"You would like to know that."
Without saying another word, Severide got up and went outside. His colleagues would almost certainly not stop interrogating him any further. He knew only too well how curious these men could be.
Sometimes they were real gossipers.
However, there wasn't really anything to talk about either. Except for that kiss, nothing really happened. Kelly had no idea what was going to develop out of it. That being said, he had never felt the way he felt about you before in his life.
Lost in thought, he pulled his cell phone out of the side pocket of his pants and stared at the black display.
Should he get in touch with you?
He had promised, but would that be wise? Wouldn't it look like he's chasing you?
What should he do?
Nothing like it had happened to him before. You had managed to turn his whole world upside down in a very short time. You changed him within four encounters. He would have tried to get any other woman to bed yesterday.
But it was different with you. He didn't want to rush anything .
"This girl seems to have got under your skin quite a bit."
Kelly hadn't noticed Casey standing next to him. The lieutenant of the Rescue Squad put the cell phone away again, smiling embarrassed and with slightly reddened cheeks.
"Seems so."
"And what are you going to do now?"
Kelly took a deep breath and stared lost in thought for a few moments.
“Frankly, I had absolutely no idea. I find myself in uncharted waters, so to speak. I've never felt like I did for (Y/N) before. "
Casey listened to his friend and just nodded understandingly.
“Do you have any advice for me? I mean, you clearly have more experience than me. "
Casey patted his friend on the shoulder with encouragement and a big smile.
"Listen to your heart."
"As simple as that?"
"As simple as that."
Kelly looked at his friend and colleague in silence, pondering his situation with you. But before Kelly could speak to Matt again, they heard Cruz calling everyone in 51 to eat. Casey pointed meaningfully in the direction of the kitchen.
"So much for the topic of unknown waters."
"Should we really dare to eat it?"
The two lieutenants went in laughing, after all, you had to set a good example.
---
The meal with your family had been fantastic, but more than enough to feed a small company of hungry soldiers. Once again you had eaten way too much and were sure that tomorrow you would easily weigh a kilo more.
Like every other Sunday you were in the kitchen with your sister doing the dishes. Your hands were soaking wet and full of soap when your cell phone started beeping.
Instantly your heart rate had increased. Could it be that he had just written you a message?
With slightly shaky hands, you dried your hands in a tea towel, and finally got your cell phone out of your handbag, which was on a chair in the corner.
When you saw who had just sent you a message, a big grin crept onto your lips.
> Cruz cooked today. Hope your food was better. I think of you - K <
"Tell me, sister, why have you been grinning like that all day?" Shannon asked you.
Startled by the sudden speech, you immediately put your cell phone back in your purse.
"I have no idea what you are talking about" you said and helped her dry the plates.
"Oh come on, (Y/N/N), there is something going on. I already know you when you were born. So spit it out. Who is it that makes you shine like that? Do i know him?"
As always, your older sister hit the nail on the head. You had never managed to hide anything from her before.
Actually, you didn't want to tell her about Kelly. What should you have talked about? Except for one kiss, nothing really happened. But there was no escaping Shannon's knowing gaze.
“I met someone,” you finally began, without stopping to dry the plates any further.
"What? Who? And when? How did that happen? Tell me! "
And so you told her everything. From your first meeting at Molly’s, the rescue from the office, the reunion in the park and finally from yesterday evening. Your sister was hanging on your lips as if you were prophesying the lottery numbers for the next drawing.
“Ah, so our little (Y/N/N) met a knight in shimmering armor. Could it be that you fell in love?"
Her voice had turned into a slight singsong. You knew that Shannon was happy for you. Still, your sister couldn't help teasing you a little.
And that's exactly what she did. In a matter of seconds, the color of your face turned a deep red. Now you couldn't really deny it anymore. Your reaction was just too clear.
"Well, first of all, he's not a knight in shimmering armor," you said defiantly.
"Okay, then someone in a sooty firefighter uniform," Shannon teased.
"And second," you had meanwhile raised your finger threateningly, "I certainly haven't fallen in love."
"Oh yes? Are you sure about that too, little one? Because judging by the color of your face ... "
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Honey, it's me. You know you can tell me anything So out with it, did you fall in love with this Kelly?"
"No ... yes ... I don't know, I don't know him well."
"But then so good to make out with him in front of your apartment," Shannon said smugly, "believe me, every blind person can see what's going on inside you!"
You looked out the window pensively as you nibbled your lower lip. Maybe your sister was right.
Maybe you really fell in love with Kelly.
---
The days and weeks that followed passed by in a flash. You and Kelly met almost every night. You just enjoyed each other's presence. This tender, almost shy kiss had meanwhile become many.
And even if you both had one or the other wild make-out session, you hadn't taken the last step yet. You didn't know him well enough to let him in your bed.
Kelly hadn't tried to lure you into his bed either. He took the advice Casey had given him and listened to his heart.
That told him that you two had all the time in the world and absolutely nothing to rush into.
It was friday. Kelly was on shift and you hadn't come out of your office in ages again. You were absolutely exhausted and just wanted to end the evening comfortably with your friends.
You wanted to meet them in your local pub downtown. The Flanagan's. As a precaution, you decided to take a taxi today. You knew your friends and if the evening went as usual, no one would be able to drive in a few hours anyway.
Frankly, you felt guilty for neglecting them so much in the past few weeks. You would certainly have to endure one or two comments today. But you were lucky.
After you volunteered to pay the first two rounds, your friends were ready to overlook your unfaithfulness to them.
You were in the process of discussing the results of the latest hurling game when Susan unexpectedly sniffed in.
"Hey guys, how are you?"
"Good thank you. And you? Aren't you trying to seduce firefighters tonight?” Your best friend Lucas wanted to annoy her.
He still apparently hadn't gotten over the fact that she'd dropped him after a few weeks just to make out with a firefighter.
"No, you can't hang out there every evening."
Lucas rolled his eyes while Susan got one of these colorful cocktails. However, she just couldn't help it and quickly flirted with the bartender before joining your group again and standing next to you.
"Oh (Y/N/N), before I forget, I'm really sorry it didn't work out with your guy," she said, so softly that only you could hear.
"What do you mean?"
You looked at her inquiringly.
A queasy feeling was building up in your stomach, and your breathing was getting faster and shallower.
Confused and also a bit scared you looked into Susan's eyes, who gave you a sad dog look.
What was that supposed to mean?
What was going on here ?
"Well, I was back at Molly’s yesterday and I saw him at the bar with such a cute blonde. The two seemed to get along really well, if you know what I mean. "
You actually wanted to meet Kelly in the bar yesterday. But you had to work longer and then you preferred to go home to catch up on some sleep.
“They also disappeared together,” she continued, “and this morning when I happened to pass firehouse 51, I saw them again. Together. Guess what else I found out. "
Susan paused meaningfully and then went on with a smug tone in her voice.
“Because I'm such a good friend, I asked around a bit: You won't believe what I've learned. The two live together. For ages ... well ... I'm really sorry for you, but apparently you were just a little distraction for this firefighter. "
You felt sick instantly and felt like you were about to throw up. You couldn't believe it. What were you getting yourself into? The heart shattered into a thousand pieces.
It really seemed too good to be true.
Why should such a gorgeous man be interested in a gray mouse like you?
Without further ado you empty your glass in one go and put it back on the counter.
"Hey, are you okay, (Y/N/N)?", Lucas wanted to know, "You're suddenly pale as a sheet!"
Immediately he was at your side and protectively put his arm around your shoulder. He had never seen his best friend like this before. What did Susan whisper to you that threw you so off the rails?
"I'm not doing so well. I'll call a taxi and go home, will you pay for me, please? "
"Yes, of course, should I come with you?"
He was always so caring. Ever since you met him at the age of twelve.
"No thank you. It's okay. "
With these words you left Flanagan's and drove home. But you couldn't get a minute of sleep that night. For hours you lay on your bed and cried bitter tears.
What have you been to Kelly? A distraction?
Why did you fall for him?
The next day you felt even more miserable than the night before. That bad feeling in the pit of your stomach was not gone either. You just felt sick. You didn't meet your friends for a run either.
As if all life had been sucked out of you, you lay on the couch and thought about what you had learned yesterday.
Was it all just a lie between Kelly and you?
When your cell phone rang, you already knew from the ringtone who was trying to reach you. But you didn't want to hear from him. You didn't want to talk to him.
Never again.
---
Kelly had tried to contact you again and again. But you never answered your cell phone and each of his calls ended up in your voicemail. Confused, he looked at the clock. It was just before noon.
Were you still running with your friends?
He paced up and down nervously. After what happened at Molly’s on Thursday, he urgently wanted to talk to you. He couldn't and didn't want to risk that you would find out about this incident through the rumor mill.
He wanted to talk to you about it himself. After all, he didn't want any secrets from you.
"Hey Kelly, are you okay?"
Shay was worried about her best friend. She had never seen him like this before. Maybe he shouldn't have waited until after his shift to speak to you.
"I can't reach (Y / N)."
“Now don't worry, she may just have forgotten her cell phone at home. She'll call you back. "
"Do you think?"
Shay just nodded, she had seen the two of you together. What was between you two was clearly love. Nothing and nobody could get in the way.
On the other hand …. the devil never sleeps.

Love of an Irish Heart 03 - Running with the prospect of something new
Tumblr media
Paring: Kelly Severide x Female Reader
Summary: You can't get Kelly out of your head after the fire in your office building. If you want to see him again, you'll have to go to Mollys. Or maybe not?
A/N: English is not my first language, so I’m sorry for any mistakes.
Series Masterlist previous chapter
A good two weeks had passed since the fire in your office building. Just as the heat of this summer slowly faded, your strength slowly came back.
As you promised the blonde paramedic, you went to see your doctor, who promptly prescribed rest and plenty of fresh air. Your mother hadn't been told twice and promptly put you in your old room. You were the youngest of her children and their eyes have always been on you with worry and attention.
Not that she neglects her other children, but you were special to her.
Your mother and your older sister Shannon had been looking after you for the past few weeks. You yourself found so much attention a bit excessive. With a lot of effort and the help of your brother Jimmy, you finally managed to convince the two of them that you could move back into your apartment.
But that's the way it was in an Irish family. Everyone was there for one another. Always. Even if it could be too much at times.
Your family had also been a good distraction because you thought about Kelly a lot less than you probably would have done alone in your apartment.
You were still annoyed that you had rejected him so harshly back then. He was actually really nice. He was also incredibly handsome. On top of that he had heroically saved you from your burning office ... and those blue eyes ...
"Enough," you admonished yourself.
After those two weeks that you had spent more or less in quarantine, the ceiling was about to fall on your head. You just had to get out.
You'd never been the couch potato type. And so you did the first thing that came into your head. You grabbed your running gear and drove to the park.
---
It was a sunny morning when Kelly walked into the shared kitchen. Outside the window he could hear the birds chirping and some of the neighbors' children were already out on their bikes.
Shay was already sitting at breakfast and it smelled seductively of coffee.
"Good morning."
"Good morning, there's still coffee if you want one," Shay said as she had just swallowed a spoonful of yogurt.
“Yes, thank you”, he urgently needed coffee, as he had slept relatively restlessly.
He just hasn't slept so well lately. Again and again you appeared in his dreams. Nothing like it had happened to him before. Usually he quickly forgot about women who turned him down. Especially since that didn't happen often. But you kept haunted his thoughts.
This uncomfortable situation was not improved by the fact that you were one of the victims in the high-rise fire two weeks ago. In addition, it was he of all people who brought you out of the burning building. Shay was right, you got under his skin, he didn't know that. Again he felt that uncomfortable tugging in his stomach, and you were the reason for it. This woman, whom he had only seen twice, and whom he still missed sorely. "You're okay," Shay wanted to know, as if she had read his mind. "Yes of course. What should be I ... I'm okay ... I'll go jogging. "
Kelly couldn't spend another minute in those four walls. He had to get out. He had to exhaust himself. Tiring his body and then maybe getting some restful sleep.
Less than ten minutes later he was sitting in his car and driving to the lake. The fresh air would do him good and maybe clear his head as well.
---
You had just parked your car in the parking lot and were now walking comfortably to your usual running route. Normally you always meet your friends here, but none of them had time today.
Everyone was somehow scheduled, on vacation or otherwise busy.
Actually, you didn't like to go running alone, but today that was fine with you. So you at least had the opportunity to indulge your own thoughts and maybe even get clear about one thing or the other.
At the beginning of your run, you did some warm-up exercises before you started running on your own.
The sky above you was cloudless and the sun blinked again and again through the thick canopy of leaves of the avenue through which you were running. While you were running along the lake, a light breeze blew over and was already talking quietly about the approaching autumn.
You were on your usual route towards the aquarium and you enjoyed the fresh air and the warm rays of the sun on your skin, which were not too hot at this time of day. In your mind, the evening at Molly’s played back over and over again.
Perhaps you were wrong and too paranoid?
Could it be that this group hadn't talked about you after all?
Was Kelly really flirting with you?
No, this could not be.
He looked like a man who could have anyone he wanted. And if you knew one thing, it was that you didn't look like the women the men were after.
So deeply absorbed in your own thoughts you hadn't noticed how quickly the time had passed, because barely a moment later you had already arrived at the small vantage point in front of the aquarium.
It usually took you a good hour to get here.
You stood a little out of breath and first of all enjoyed the wonderful view of the lake.
Since you escaped this fire with almost no harm, life seemed to be much more intense. The sun shone brighter, the colors shone stronger and the birds that twittered everywhere here, sang louder and more fervently than usual.
The lake was reflecting and wonderfully blue at your feet, and you wondered whether you should go diving again, the weather was perfect for that.
"Don't say that you also go jogging here.", You heard a voice behind you that sounded very familiar.
But it really couldn't be now. Was that just a coincidence again?
"Kelly Severide," you said when you turned to him, "are you stalking me?"
You couldn't help but smile, because frankly you are happy to see him. Apart from that, he hadn't gotten out of your head for the past few weeks.
What was wrong with you?
"I could ask you the same thing," he said smugly and came closer.
"No more trouble breathing?" He asked, his voice sounding slightly concerned.
“No, everything is fine again. The doctor gave me his okay, and sitting around for two weeks is enough for me, "you continued to smile at him," and thanks again for getting me out of the house. "
God this man looked good. Even in his sweaty sports gear, he was still sexy, or maybe because of that?
"How did you come up with the idea of the wet scarf?" He asked curiously.
“When I was little, we had fire prevention training at school. It was said that with a damp cloth around your mouth and nose, you would inhale less toxins from the smoke. That's the only thing that got stuck ... and that you should move close to the ground because the smoke rises up. "
"Aha, so you learned that in school."
He took two steps towards you and was now right in front of you. You got nervous a little, but why?
You put your hands on your hips, the need to hold on somewhere so as not to fall over grew. Could that really be, did you just have weak knees?
"Yes, at least where I come from, that is still being taught to the children in elementary school, I have no idea whether it is the same here," you replied with a shrug.
So he wasn't mistaken, you weren't from the States.
"Where are you from ?"
"I'm from Ballyshannon"
"Where is Bellyshannon, please?" He asked, slightly confused.
“It's in Ireland. On the west coast, to be precise. "
"So you are Irish?"
“No”, you laughed, “meanwhile a real American woman. I came to the States when I was ten. My father came here because of his work and took his wife and children with him. But my relatives still live over there. "
"Is that where your incredible hair color comes from?" He asked you with a smile.
Could that really be true now? Was Kelly Flirting With You? Now? Here? In your condition?
You were sweaty, in your baggy workout clothes, and no makeup on your face at all. All in all, you didn't have to be a pretty sight right now, but you still felt like this man was flirting with you.
"You're just imagining it," you tried to calm yourself down, "he's just being kind to you."
Why should such a great man be interested in someone like you. You were just you.
"I think that has more to do with genetics than with origins," you said kindly, "all the women in my family have red hair, for generations."
"And also a penchant for Irish whiskey," he stated.
"Yes, that too."
That was his opportunity. He couldn't get you out of his head since he met you. He had met you twice now, and both times you disappeared again. This time he wasn't going to let his chance slip away.
Now or never.
Kelly was sure that if he didn't say anything now, he would never find you in the shallows of Chicago again. Because even fate did not give up an infinite number of opportunities.
"Is this your usual running route here," he asked, hoping to have the chance to see you again on this one.
"I usually meet up with my friends here every Saturday to run, but unfortunately they all moved me today."
Okay, if you don't have time today, he still had a chance to see you next week. Nevertheless, he wanted to put his luck to the test, maybe he could still spend some time with you.
"So if you still need a training partner for today ..."
"That's nice, but I don't think I'll be fit enough to keep up with you."
He wouldn't let you escape that easily. He wanted to get to know her more than he wanted to admit.
"Would you like to have a coffee with me then?"
You would have loved to yell YES right away, but the way you looked right now you didn't want to. You were sweaty and you certainly didn't smell good either. All you wanted to do was take a hot shower.
You looked at the clock uncertainly. Would you get another chance if you turned him down again now?
“I don't want to be rude, but actually I'd prefer to get back to my car and shower home. The way I look right now ... "
Kelly understood that right now you weren't really comfortable in your sweaty workout clothes. Still, he wasn't about to let you escape so easily. He had already loved you at Mollys, then there was the meeting on the mission two weeks ago, and now here.
He had already missed his chance twice, this time he didn't want to let it get that far again.
“Okay, I understand that,” he said as cool as possible, “but you’ll have a drink with me tonight, at Molly’s. Around nine? "
Before you could even think clearly, you heard yourself say: "Yes, I would like that very much."
---
It was just before nine o'clock in the evening. Molly’s was well attended and people were talking, laughing and enjoying the evening. The mood was relaxed and it was sure to be another relaxing and fun night in the CFD bar.
Only one was not at all relaxed and exuberant.
Kelly was far from relaxed. He leaned nervously on the bar and sipped his beer while his gaze kept wandering to the door. He sincerely hoped you hadn't changed your mind again. It would break his heart if you moved him here today.
"Hey Severide, everything's okay," asked Herrmann, who, as always, was standing behind the bar and wiping the counter.
The older firefighter had noticed that his friend and colleague had looked at the watch on his wrist again and again and never really took his eyes off the front door of Molly's.
"Yes, of course."
"Are you sure? You seem a little nervous. "
“Of course everything is okay. I ... I'm just waiting for someone. "
"The sweet redhead maybe?"
Kelly put on his best poker face that he was just able to do. If you really shouldn't come, he didn't want to reveal himself. Especially not in front of his friends and colleagues.
"I have no idea who you're talking about, Herrmann."
"If you say so."
The black-haired lieutenant turned around again and leaned back against the bar as casually as possible. Silently he fixed the door again. You just had to come.
A queasy feeling spread in the pit of his stomach. Would you really move him? A quick glance at the watch made his blood run cold.
It was a little after nine.
---
Shortly before nine you were finally seated in the taxi that would take you to Molly’s. You could bite your butt. Why had you been so stupid and told Susan that you wanted to go to Molly's today.
It was clear that she wanted to come with you immediately. Susan was obsessed with firefighters. She would never have missed the opportunity to throw herself at one of them.
Why couldn't you just keep your plans for this evening to yourself? Then you might have got out of the house in time. But no, you had to tell Susan everything. And when she finally got to your apartment, she disappeared into the bathroom for fifteen minutes.
Make-up check.
Actually, you didn't really like Susan wanting to come with you either. After all, this woman was a real stage hog and had to be the focus always and everywhere.
So you worried that tonight might turn out differently than you planned.
Although what exactly were you hoping for?
Confused, you pushed the thought aside. You didn't want to think about it that hard. The fear of being disappointed was just too great.
You nervously climbed out of the taxi after Susan and entered the bar.
Molly’s was well attended again. Lots of people huddled together. You could clearly see that it was Saturday evening.
Susan mingled with the crowd and immediately began scanning the room for suitable flirt candidates. However, you didn't have to look far.
Kelly was leaning casually against the bar, barely 6 paces away. With his leather jacket and dark jeans he somehow had something of James Dean, only the cigarette was missing.
"Thought you weren't coming," he said with a smile.
You looked at the watch on your wrist, embarrassed. Ten past nine. You were to late. You hated being late and now you felt guilty for making him wait.
“I'm really sorry,” you tried to apologize, “that's actually not my style. I'm usually always on time, even mostly a little earlier. But today I was stopped by someone. "
With these words you indicated Susan, who was flirting with a Latino.
"Apparently she has a soft spot for firefighters," you said with a shrug.
"Seems so," smiled Kelly before turning back to you, "and you?"
With the best of intentions, you hadn't expected such a question. But before you could really think about the scope of his question, your sarcasm spoke up loudly.
One day your cheeky mouth would cost you head and neck. Still, he had saved you from getting hurt a few times.
“To be honest, I haven't thought about that yet. Seems like it's not one of the top ten on my priority list. "
"You are pretty naughty, can that be?" Said Kelly with a big grin on her face.
"That's what my father always says."
"Ouch!", He said and made a slight face, "I hope I don't remind you too much of your father."
Kelly hadn't even finished the sentence correctly, you had to laugh that hard. I don't know how he did it, but this man always managed to get you out of the reserve.
Still smiling, you took the glass of whiskey that Herrmann had set for you and looked at Kelly with a meaningful smile.
"To a nice evening," you said and Kelly noticed how his heart had jumped at these words.
---
You haven't had as much fun on a date in a long time as you had with Kelly that night. You two talked about anything and everything while just enjoying each other's closeness.
It was well after midnight by the time Kelly brought you home. You actually wanted to take a taxi, but Kelly insisted that he would take you home himself.
You hadn't given Susan a thought at all, apart from the fact that she was still busy getting closer to this Latino.
When Kelly parked his car in front of your apartment building, you didn't really want this evening to end. Before you could even open the car door, Kelly had jumped out of the car and was halfway on the way to do it for you.
He really was a gentleman, and when he gently clasped your hand in his on the way to your house, billions of butterflies were instantly running amok in your stomach.
You keep talking on the front door of your apartment building. Somehow you couldn't and didn't want to say goodbye to each other. But time went on, and the next day you had a full schedule again.
Again and again you brushed an unruly strand of hair from your face. The wind had picked up and there were also some clouds in the sky that prevented a clear view of the starry night sky.
Not that one was seen on the brightly illustrated streets of Chicago.
“I should really go in now,” you said finally, “in a few hours I have to be at my parents' home. I shouldn't look like I've been up all night. "
„Are you going to meet your parents tomorrow? "
"Yes. The whole family comes together every Sunday. It's kind of a tradition with us. We've been doing this since my siblings and I moved out. And if I don't appear there tomorrow, fresh and cheerful, I need some explanation. "
Kelly was also on shift tomorrow and would probably need a few more cups of coffee than usual. Still, it was incredibly difficult for him to say goodbye to you now.
Where did this feeling come from?
Neither of you knew that. Sure, the two of you had already had relationships, and Kelly was nowhere near a child of sadness, but that feeling was new right now.
Again the summer breeze blew that damn stubborn strand of hair into your face. But before you could take care of it with a grumble, Kelly had already gently brushed it off your face.
As if hypnotized, you stared into his deep blue eyes. You were absolutely unable to break eye contact, even for a moment. At least until Kelly slowly leaned towards you.
Immediately your gaze wandered to his lips before you looked into his blue eyes again.
He would really do it now. And before you could really react, your lips touched. Very gently and tenderly, almost as if a too stormy touch could hurt you.
But just this loving touch was enough to weaken your knees and make it difficult for you to keep your balance.
The second your lips parted, you missed that feeling of warmth that they had given you.
"I'll call you tomorrow," he said, before giving you a loving kiss on the tip of your nose, "I'm on shift tomorrow, but I'll get in touch when I have time, I promise."

Paring: Kelly Severide x Female Reader
Summary: During a fire incident, Kelly meets someone he can't get out of his head.

Series Masterlist previous chapter
It was early August. The sun burned relentlessly from the cloudless sky on the city on Lake Michigan. The summer heat had been almost unbearable for days, and anyone who could afford it spent these days in front of an air conditioner or in the pleasant waters of the blue shimmering lake.
The longer this hot summer lasted, the more often the hospital emergency rooms filled with patients suffering from heat stroke or sunstroke.
You too would have preferred to do something different that Friday than sit on the 10th floor of this office complex, where your family's company was located. How much would you like to swim in the floods of Lake Michigan, or explore the dark depths of this lake with friends, and once again organize a small diving safari.
Nobody wanted to spend their time in the office on a day like this, but neither could one escape their obligations. Especially not if you were the daughter of the company founder.
Although, to be honest, it didn't matter what the weather was, you just didn't like sitting at your desk for hours just working on your computer or being stuck in conference calls for hours.
Your work only became exciting for you when you could be at the freight port, when there were problems with one of your containers again, or when you were able to be with your customers.
For years you had worked in your father's import business, which specialized in herbs and spices. Whatever your customers needed, you could organize just about anything, from oregano and caraway seeds to exotic spices like nigella and cumin.
However, it wasn't just the office work itself that didn't inspire you. You always had a queasy feeling about working in a high-rise building. And not just because you suffered from fear of heights. You were more concerned about the modest escape routes, which could become a real problem in the event of a disaster.
And since the 9/11 incident, you've been unhappy working in a skyscraper, even if your office was only on the 10th floor.
But what was to happen that day made you doubt whether you would ever want to work in a high-rise again.
---
The great midday heat was slowly waning, and everyone was hoping that a cool breeze would cool the city, if only a little, that night. Above all, the two girls from Ambulance 61, who have just returned from an assignment.
Once again they had to take someone to the hospital who had suffered a severe sunstroke. And it wasn't the first such mission, and it certainly wouldn't be the last either.
Kelly leaned against the entrance to Firehouse 51, pensively smoking a cigar. It had been a quiet shift for him and Rescue Squad 3 so far. He watched in silence as Shay and Dawson were about to get out of the ambulance after their assignment.
His roommate had noticed that Kelly had been more silent the last few days than she was used to from him. It wasn't uncommon for him to become more silent when something bothered him, but Shay hadn't seen him so calm for a long time.
Driven by sheer curiosity, she went straight to Kelly when she had closed the driver's door of the ambulance.
"Is everything alright? You've been unusually calm lately, "she began as she approached him.
"Everything's fine," he said with a smile, but the sound of his voice betrayed him.
"Hey, come on, what's up, Kelly? Or is the redhead from last week's Molly’s still on your mind? "
He gave her a meaningful look, only to then stare again in silence into the distance.
"Oh my god, I don't believe it. Could it be that someone finally got under your skin?” She asked him with her mouth wide open.
That was something new. Kelly had always been more of the short affair type and no woman had stayed by his side for long. Never before had one made more than a fleeting impression on him. Or would it have been worth investing in more than a pack of condoms.
Shay couldn't believe what was going on in front of her eyes. She didn't even know her best friend like that. Could it really be that this womanizer had finally found the woman to settle down with?
“I don't know, Shay. Somehow she is different from everyone else I know. "
"And after all, there is plenty of girls, if we're honest," Shay misuses Kelly's train of thought with a cheeky smile.
Kelly was about to give her an answer when the alarm went off.
"Truck 81, Rescue Squad 3, Engine 51, Ambulance 61, major fire in office building. Address ……. "
Shay and Kelly didn't hesitate a moment and ran to their police car. A major fire was not to be trifled with. Something like that meant difficult conditions and mostly many victims. To make matters worse, there is also the summer heat wave, which would make this mission even more difficult.
---
Exhausted, you ended the video call with one of your South American suppliers and first of all stretched yourself with relish. The day just didn't seem to want to end for you.
After a hearty yawn, your gaze wandered to the small time display at the bottom right of your computer screen. A little after four in the afternoon.
How would you like to have finished your work and gone home. However, you still had to record everything that had just been agreed in writing before it was finally time for you too. But before you could type the first two words, a bloodcurdling whistle sounded in your office.
Startled, your gaze wandered to the closed door in front of you, and you immediately felt sick when you realized that it was the fire alarm.
"Maybe this is just a false positive," you tried to calm yourself down.
You take a deep breath and with shaky hands saved the files you had just been working on on the company server before you got up and slowly left your desk with weak knees.
When you opened your office door, thick smoke billowed out towards you. You suddenly realized that it wasn't a false positive. There was a fire somewhere in this building and you were right in the middle of it.
In a panic, you immediately slammed the door shut again. The open-plan office behind it was already filled with thick smoke and you could barely see two meters.
Trembling all over your body, you feverishly wondered what to do. You were on the tenth floor and the only way out of this office was through the north stairwell. But to get there you had to go across the whole floor, which meant you definitely had to go through the thick smoke out there.
"Oh God please help me," you thought and sent a quick prayer towards heaven.
Actually, you always found it difficult to believe in the great Manitu up there, even if you had been brought up strictly Catholic. But right now at this moment it would be all right with you if there was someone who would take care of you in this moment of need.
No matter what you believed, or thought you knew, you knew one thing for sure, that you had to get out of this building as soon as possible.
For a moment you thought about whether there was anyone else in the office besides you. As if mesmerized, you stared at the watch on your wrist. At this time you were sure to be the last one here. Even Jen, your assistant went home a little after two o'clock.
You were sure to be here alone.
But what should you do? How are you supposed to make it through the office without the risk of suffocation? Because the smoke in front of your office got thicker and thicker with every passing second.
---
Rescue Squad 3's vehicle was the first to arrive at the scene. However, the men and women of Firehouse 51 had seen from a distance the thick billows of smoke pouring from the broken windows of the skyscraper.
The office building was a twenty story skyscraper and the top of the building was on fire.
This mission would definitely be a challenge.
As soon as the truck came to a standstill, the Rescue Squad men jumped into the street and immediately shouldered their respirators. Truck 81 and Engine 51 arrived shortly after and did the same.
Chief Boden immediately picked up his radio and began coordinating the operation.
"Truck 81, Rescue Squad 3, you make sure that the building is cleared. Engine 51, ensure the water supply inside the building."
Everyone knew what to do. A short time later, cars from other fire stations arrived and like cogs in a clock, all fire stations worked together to get this precarious situation under control as quickly as possible.
“Okay you heard the chief”, Casey called to his colleagues, “Mouch, Herrmann, you make sure that all floors are cleared up to the fifth. Cruz you come with me, we'll go through everything from the fifth to the tenth. "
“Okay, Capp, Mills you’ll come in tenth with me. We'll start there,” Kelly called and was already halfway into the building while Dawson and Shay took care of the people who came running out of the building coughing.
---
You leaned against your office door, trembling with fear. You felt trapped in a nightmare and were desperate about what to do. The panic seemed to take control of you more and more, which didn't make it easier to get a clear thought.
You searched feverishly in the farthest corners of your memory for something that could help you in this situation. Didn't you even learn something in school?
you thought that you had learned something in elementary school about how to behave in such a situation.
A wet cloth around your mouth and nose so that you don't inhale so much smoke!
As if stung by a tarantula, you ran to your desk and looked in your handbag for the scarf that you had been lugging around with you for ages. As soon as it was in your hands you emptied the liquid contents of the flower vase, which always stood on your table, over it, until the scarf was really soaked.
You now tie this wet cloth around your mouth and nose. It didn't smell inviting, and under normal circumstances you should have started gagging. But here and now you just didn't care. Better that way than inhaling the toxic fumes.
Finally you went to your office door and slowly opened it. Immediately thick smoke hit you. You reflexively went down on your hands and knees to stay under the smoke.
Slowly you felt your way crawling on the floor towards the stairs. It was relatively difficult to move around the room as your view was severely restricted due to the smoke. Your eyes burned and you struggled to find the right path. The panic in you grew bigger and bigger, but you knew that you had to stay calm if you wanted to get out of here reasonably safe.
However, it was an unspeakable challenge due to your increasing fear not to lose your mind.
Big tears flowed down your cheeks inexorably. but you didn't know if they were from the acrid smoke or if you had just started crying.
Slowly, inch by inch, you feel your way across the room. Past the office niches of the employees, which always reminded you of boxes in a horse stable.
Okay, where did you have to go again? Slowly you had the feeling that you had lost your orientation for good. Did you have to go right or further straight?
The panic in you grew bigger and bigger and you thought you had to die in here when you suddenly heard a voice in the distance.
Could it be? Was anyone there?
"Fire Department! Call out! "
You tried to concentrate. Where did this voice come from? And who was calling?
"Fire Department! Call out! "
You couldn't believe your luck, it was a firefighter. No matter where he called from, he just had to find you.
"I'm here!" You shouted as loudly as you could.
Immediately afterwards you had to cough heavily. Despite the wet cloth in front of your mouth, you felt the scratchy smoke that irritated your windpipe.
Still gasping for breath, you crouched on the floor, concentrating on not becoming a victim of your panic for good.
Despair took hold of you until, out of nowhere, two strong arms wrapped around the middle of your body and helped you up.
"Is there anyone else here?" Asked the fireman from behind his respirator.
"I do not know. I think I was the last! "
You tried to speak as clearly as possible, but it was more difficult than you thought. The smoke scratched your throat as if you were trying to breathe sand and you had to cough harder and harder.
"Capp, Mills, you control the back offices, I'll take her out," the fireman shouted to his two colleagues you could only see faintly in the smoke.
"Don't worry, I'll get you out of here," the firefighter turned back to you, put his arm around your waist and took you to the stairwell.
You couldn't believe it, there was hardly more than five meters between you and the door of the emergency exit. But the way ten floors down over the also smoke-filled staircase just didn't seem to want to end. It took what felt like an eternity until you and your rescuer arrived on the ground floor.
Never in your whole life have you been so happy to feel the rays of the sun on your skin. You couldn't believe that you really managed to get out of this hell.
And it was truly a hell, because when you turned around you realized what an inferno you were stuck in. The entire upper floors were blazing and never before have you been ready to say a prayer of thanks as much as at this moment.
You haven't been on the street for a minute before you were met by a paramedic who immediately pulled the wet cloth from your face and gave you oxygen. Actually you wanted to thank the fireman for his help, but as soon as he had handed you over to the paramedic he had disappeared back into the house.
"Take a deep breath, it'll be fine," said the nice, blonde paramedic, "I have to listen to you with the Stetuscope to see how your lungs are doing."
You had no idea why, but the young blonde looked familiar to you. Could it be that you had seen her before?
However, this thought disappeared as quickly as it came. At that moment you were just happy to be alive.
While you were still pondering your thoughts, the young paramedic led you to an ambulance and motioned you to sit in the back door. You took a few deep breaths in and out as she examined your lungs.
She was right, the oxygen helped and the excruciating cough diminished.
You watched in silence as firefighters kept coming out of the house and then disappearing back into it shortly afterwards. It was amazing to watch these men risk their own lives every time they entered the burning skyscraper.
This heroism was hard to describe.
You sat there in silence and looked over the chaos that was prevailing here before you took off the oxygen mask and handed it back to the paramedic. Your cough was almost completely gone.
"Thank you," you said smiling to the paramedic, "I'm feeling better."
"You don't have to go to the hospital, but you should still be examined by a doctor," she said thoughtfully and removed your blood pressure cuff.
"I will, promise."
---
Kelly had just finished his third tour through the office building and had just come out of the house with an older man. The air in his respirator was empty and he urgently needed a short break.
Nobody was served if one of the firefighters went down on their knees. The situation today was an almost superhuman challenge for the men and women of CFD. Just the effort of running up the stairs with full respiratory protection equipment each time, only to start down the path a short time later with a new rescued person, everyone here got to the point.
"Hey, how's it going," Casey wanted to know and held out a water bottle to his friend and colleague.
"Okay, we're almost done," answered Kenny and leaned exhausted against the rescue truck. Such missions were absolutely no fun in midsummer because the risk of heat stroke was of course all the greater now.
Kelly took another long swig from the water bottle before pouring the rest over his head. That was exactly what he needed in this overheated situation.
He calmly looked around at the bustle of rescuers and victims before he wanted to run into the house for what felt like the hundredth time. His gaze wandered from one to the other until he got stuck at Ambulance 61.
The young woman sitting there was clearly the one he had rescued from the tenth floor. But now, viewed calmly, and without the scarf on her face, she looked more than familiar to him.
Could it be? Was that her?
He just had to be sure. And so he took a few steps towards the two women.
---
The only thing you thought right now was that you wanted to call your parents. Unfortunately, your cell phone was still in your handbag on the tenth floor of the burning office building. Hopefully someone here would have a cell phone for you so you could call your family to tell them you were fine.
They were sure to be beside themselves with worries, because if there was one thing you knew for sure, it would be that such disasters were broadcast live on TV.
You were about to get up and look for a cell phone when suddenly someone said your name.
"(Y/N)?"
Startled you looked around. Who had just spoken to you? Did they mean you at all?
All you saw around you were firefighters. Everyone was busy putting out the fire. But then you saw someone who seemed to be walking towards you.
His face was smeared with soot and he was holding a water bottle in one of his hands. When he was only 5 paces away from you, you recognized the man. Kelly Severide!
Did he save you from the house?
"So he's one of them too," you thought.
However, you weren't surprised either, after all, you had met him in an explicit CFD bar.
"Are you okay?" He wanted to know with a worried look and stopped a few feet in front of you.
"Yes", you said with a smile, but the scratching in your throat was there again and another coughing attack shook you.
Kelly looked at Shay questioningly. It was clear in his eyes how much he worried about you right now. After all, smoke inhalation was not to be underestimated. In these cases, every minute counted before the airways swelled so much that the victims suffocated in agony.
But here and now the blonde paramedic just smiled and nodded briefly to him. Apparently it wasn't as bad as he had thought at first.
“A little short of breath, but otherwise okay.”, you finally said when the cough was over, “and…. Um ... thanks for getting me out. "
You pointed to the still burning house that the firefighters ran into with hoses. Apparently they were only just beginning to put out the fire. The end of work was still far from in sight.
"No problem," he grinned and let the gap between his teeth flash briefly, "after all, that's our job."
With these words he disappeared back into the crowd. Someone had called for him and he had to get back to work. There was still much to be done, after all.
You just sat there in silence and watched him go until you lost sight of him in the crowd.
This unexpected and absolutely unplanned meeting had shown you very painfully how much this man had impressed you at your first meeting. Even if you didn't want to admit it at first, this man really got under your skin.
Or could it be that you were just imagining it? Maybe it was just because he had just saved you. Was that some kind of transference syndrome that made you feel drawn to your Savior?
Or was there something more to it than that?
Why did you only reject him at Molly’s?
Back then, it seemed like a good idea not to get involved with him, but right now you could just bite your butt for it!
Was it really that easy for you to have lost a possible future with him?

Love of an irish heart 01 - An evening in Molly’s bar
Tumblr media
Paring: Kelly Severide x Female Reader
Summary: You thought you'd have another lonely evening in a bar you didn't know. But fate had planned something else for you.
A/N: English is not my first language, so I’m sorry for any mistakes. This is the first time I've written for Chicago Fire. I don't follow the series' events, I just sometimes take on a few things that fit my story. I don't know if you will like this, but I have fun writing this story. And I would love to get some feedback from you guys. I don't know how many chapters there will be, but seven are currently finished. All with a lot of drama, angst, heartbreak ... but with a happy ending. I promise !. So enjoy the fic!
Series Masterlist
It was one of those evenings again. Actually, you had planned to snuggle into your cozy soft pajamas after a long hot shower and spend the next few hours comfortably in front of the TV and continue to watch this series on Netflix that you loved.
But then the phone rang. As soon as you heard your friend's first words, it was clear that your evening would definitely turn out differently than planned.
Your friend Susan was in a class by herself. And you were always fascinated by how good friends you were, even though you were as different as day and night.
After a few minutes, thanks to her silver tongue, she was able to persuade you to accompany her to this bar she just discovered. It would be a lot more fun together than alone, she had said. And you two hadn't had a fun evening out for a long time. But about 20 minutes after you entered the bar, she had turned away from you and was now busy flirting with some guy.
Now you were alone again at the bar, sipping your drink.
"Great, why do you always let her persuade you to do something like that", you thought as you took a sip of your whiskey.
You were angry and disappointed at the same time, but more in yourself than Susan. After all, you could have said no too. In fact, it should have been clear to you from the start that she was going to abandon you for the first guy to flirt with her. That's just how she was. However, you were friends, and after all, this evening could have turned out differently.
You looked thoughtfully around the establishment Susan had taken you to. It was actually a nice bar, and not far from her apartment. Allegedly the owners were at the CFD.
That was one of the reasons why Susan would probably be a regular guest here in the future. She just had a thing for firefighters. You had no idea why, but there were also women who got weak with men in military uniforms.
"Soldiers would be easier to get out of their uniforms than firefighters anyway, since the latter had to be fireproof," you put your thoughts to the end.
The bar was well attended. The guests were between their mid-twenties and a little before fifty. Everyone was in a good mood, and that was certainly not just because of the music, which was pretty much your taste. You liked the atmosphere, and the style of Molly's was also to your taste. You always had a soft spot for "old-school".
You have been watching the hustle and bustle for a while now, but slowly you have lost the desire to spend this evening alone in this bar. With a sure hand you reach for your glass and take the last sip of whiskey before reaching for your bag to pay.
You could definitely do something better with your time than sitting here all evening staring at the walls.
You had just slipped off the bar stool and were taking the first two steps towards the door when you heard a voice behind you.
"Do you want to go already?"
Startled and confused, you turned around. You didn't expect anyone to speak to you. Something like that had never happened before.
When you turned to the man behind you, you looked into what was supposedly the bluest eyes you had ever seen in your life.
"Um ...", instantly you had no idea what to say.
God those eyes were blue!
"…Yes. My friend, with whom I came, decided to spend the evening with someone else, and I'm not the type who likes to sit alone in a bar, so ... "
With an almost apologetic shrug, you pointed towards the door.
"And if I kept you company", the stranger smiled at you, "would you stay a little longer?"
The man in front of you was barely a head taller than you, had dark hair that was already slightly gray, and broad shoulders. You could tell that he had to train a lot and often. When he smiled, there was a small gap in his teeth between his upper incisors, which gave him a rascal character, and the blue of his eyes was reminiscent of the depths of the ocean.
Somehow you found it difficult to concentrate, and you wouldn't be able to face this man's gaze for much longer.
"I don't know you at all," you said, slightly confused about such a direct line-up.
Usually Susan was always approached by men, this never happened to you. You weren't tall, slim, with long blond, slightly curled hair, like Susan, who was the prey scheme for almost every man.
You weren't small, but you weren't really big either, something in between. Even if you exercised regularly and met up with friends for a run every Saturday, you were nowhere near model dimensions like Susan. You loved your mother's food far too much for that. Your hair was about chin length and of an intense reddish brown that was streaked with copper through and through. This really showed off your emerald green eyes, as you found.
However, no one else had noticed. Well, nobody outside of your family, even though everyone in your family had red hair. But your eyes were unique. Your mother always said your old Irish soul would be seen in your eyes.
"My name is Severide, well, actually Kelly, but everyone calls me Severide."
Indecisively, you eyed the man standing in front of you. Was he really serious now? Did he really want you to stay?
Thousands of thoughts shot through your head at the same time. Your mind jumped from one to the other like a ball in a pinball machine.
Involuntarily, unpleasant memories also came to the surface from the depths of your ocean of thoughts. Memories that you would love to forget forever. Memories of your school days.
When you were sixteen years old a great guy approached you and invited you, but in the end it turned out that he was only interested in a bet he had made with his friends. And you had been subjected to ridicule from the whole school.
You had a boyfriend in the meantime, but you never really fell in love again. You were just scared of ever letting someone get that close to you again.
That's how you stayed single.
“Oh my God,” you thought when you woke up from your brief trance, “Girl, your school days are long over! And not all men are so mean and vicious! "
"Okay," you finally agreed to Severide's offer, "one drink."
With an almost relieved smile, he turned to the man behind the bar.
"Hey Herrmann, do you have the same for the lady again?"
After taking another deep breath to calm your heart beating far too fast, you sat down on the bar stool that you had been sitting on until recently. Hardly a moment later, the nice man turned back to you and smiled at you.
"Will you tell me your name now too?"
"(Y/N), my name is (Y/N)."
"Nice to meet you, (Y/N)."
The bartender served you your drink with a friendly, almost fatherly smile. Easily overwhelmed by this situation, you reached for the glass and took a sip of the golden yellow liquid.
Immediately this comforting and so familiar light burning sensation spread in your throat.
"May I ask you what you are drinking," said the man next to you again, "I mean, the other ladies in here are drinking some colorful cocktails or at least beer, but you?"
A smile crept onto your lips at this question. He wasn't the first to wonder about your drink choices. After all, in America it was not so common for women to drink whiskey in a bar.
"Whiskey, to be more precise Jameson Gold Reserve with a little water."
"Do you know that you are the only woman I know who drinks Irish whiskey?"
"Do you know so many women that you can give a professional opinion?"
It was immediately clear to you that you had probably brought up a somewhat sensitive topic here. The man's slightly embarrassed reaction to you spoke volumes.
"Oh well,…."
"It's not so common in America, I know," you smiled and hoped that this would ease the situation a bit. "They often drink Scotch here, but I just don't like the peaty taste."
"And you seem to know about it too," said Kelly, puzzled.
"Well, you could say it's in my blood."
"Does your family have a whiskey distillery?"
These words made you laugh heartily. As far as you can remember, no one in your family had ever worked in a whiskey distillery. Well, if you were to be honest, somehow one of your relatives did, but you still thought that Great Uncle Paddy's moonshine didn't count.
"No, my family doesn't have a whiskey distillery, but they have had a close relationship with this liquid gold for generations."
He left that statement for now and took another sip of his beer while he seemed to study every single movement you made.
“What else do you do when you're not hanging out with your friend in a bar?” He asked, looking you up and down unobtrusively. He clearly liked what he saw.
You were different from the other women he knew, and you really didn't correspond to his usual prey pattern at all. But there was something about you that made you incredibly attractive to him.
“I work in my family's company, it's mostly office work. But I don't think that's what you meant. "
Kelly grinned, he liked your natural charm. You weren't at all like a typical American woman. Slowly he wondered if you were from here.
He had no idea. But what he knew was that he wanted to get to know you better.
Kelly, if he was honest, wasn't exactly lucky with women. In recent years they have come and gone without really making an impression. They were all somehow the same, great looks, but little substance. Deep down, he actually longed to finally find a woman to settle down with.
“I've never seen you here before. Is this your first time at Molly’s, ”he wanted to know.
"Yes, I usually go to a downtown pub with my friends."
"And how do you like it so far?"
"Great atmosphere, nice music, good drinks ..."
"And the people," he chopped off.
You played with the tip of your tongue on your upper incisors. A little tic from you. You always did that when you thought.
"Wait and see, that will show", you finally answered with a smile.
You had long since forgotten that you actually wanted to go home, and you didn't waste a single thought on Susan, who had actually let you down. You were way too busy not showing how much you were enjoying the attention Kelly was giving you.
What started out as an utterly disastrous evening turned into something you didn't really want to ever end. But just as rain was followed by sunshine, this evening also passed at some point.
It got later and later, and at some point the tiredness your mind fought against could no longer be denied. Before you ran the risk of falling asleep in the taxi and thus ending up as an easy victim, you slowly but surely made your way home with a heavy heart.
"Can I see you again?" Kelly asked as you were about to say goodbye to him.
For a moment you looked at the man skeptically. Was he really serious now? You thought about it for a moment and began to look around the room uncertainly. You were beginning to have really trouble concentrating. And that was not only due to the tiredness, which was becoming more and more master of your senses, but also to those incredibly blue eyes that were just on you again.
Your gaze wandered unsteadily through the bar and finally landed on a small group consisting of three men and two women who were sitting a few meters away at a table on the wall. They talked animatedly, laughed heartily from time to time and kept glancing at you two. The tall blonde man and the Latina were laughing out loud, while the slim blonde with a big grin was busy looking you up and down.
Were these people Kelly's friends?
However, it seemed to you that they were talking about you. A queasy feeling spread in the pit of your stomach and you first had to take a deep breath.
Suddenly you felt like you were sixteen again and had to endure the ridicule and scorn of your whole school. Your thoughts started to circle and soon you were firmly convinced that it was exactly the same here as it was back then in school.
Why should it be any different now? A man would never care about you. A good looking one at that. Your paranoid little brain was sending you on a very painful journey into the past and a short time later you were firmly convinced that everything was going to be the same here as it was back then in school.
“Well,” you finally thought when you were completely absorbed in your paranoia, “again such a shitty bet. And I'm the punch line for this unspeakable joke again. "
But this time you wouldn't allow yourself to be ridiculed in front of everyone here. After all, you were clearly too old for kids' stuff like that.
"Look, Kelly, it was a really nice evening and I really had fun, but that's about it. I don't want to be the center of some childish bet with your friends, so I'll be leaving now. "
Kelly was looking at you in confusion, almost as if he had no idea what you were talking about.
"What bet? I don't know what you're talking about? "
You looked briefly at Kelly. Was he really serious? Did he really have no idea what you were talking about?
He was still smiling friendly at you, even if he seemed a little confused now.
Could it be that you were just imagining it? Nevertheless, you could not and did not want to take the risk of being exposed to the masses of ridicule again.
All of a sudden this wall was there again. That one that you had built around your heart as a precaution, so as not to be hurt so badly again.
"Look, it was nice, really, but I'll go anyway."
With a smile and a short nod of the head you said goodbye before you turned around and stepped purposefully through the door onto the street. Not without leaving behind a relatively perplexed Kelly Severide.
He had absolutely no idea what had just happened here, only that it hadn't gone as he'd hoped. Not that he was looking for a quick one-night stand. Rather, he had hoped that a friendship might develop here, or something more. Much more maybe.
But now it all seemed to be over before anything could have happened.
You on the other hand were already on your way home in a taxi. Again and again the evening played itself out in your head. Could it be that you misunderstood the whole thing? That it all happened in your head? That your paranoid little brain had just played an unnecessary trick on you?
But even if it did, you couldn't and didn't want to take the risk of having your heart broken again because of a bad joke.
