tbh I'll never get why people get mad at bruce for resuscitating the joker. like, okay, in terms of reader reaction i also wish the joker would just die. but isn't it pretty clear IN-TEXT that reviving the joker was partly also done out of love for dick...? babs herself asks batman to stop dick from killing the joker. and didn't dick express relief that bruce reviving the joker means he didn't take a life?????

i just think it's a shame that people make it all about bruce when the focus should be on dick. heck, babs had to call in ted and tim to patrol bludhaven bc dick was so caught up in his own anguish after the incident—she even called in wally to come give him a talk!! like!! idk.

Dick's relationship with school is so nuanced and I fear people like to shave it down to he hated it and refused to go. And listen they throw out random fake flashbacks about made up moments in Dick's childhood. But golden and silver age Dick's actual school career was just boring. Dick was an honor roll student an expert chemist before anyone had thought of the name Barrence Allen. When they thought he was failing Bruce banned him from patrol and Dick fell asleep studying (Bruce carried him to bed cute!) before it was revealed it was actually that other Richard Grayson who was failing Dick's a genius. Dick somehow managed to be on the track team in high school he had a trophy. When Bruce was sick and Dick and Babs conspired to keep him at home Bruce was like "but who will go to your parent teacher conference?" which is irrelevant to my point I just thought that was really funny.

Everyone cried when Dick went to college. Bruce moved out of the manor and into the city. And sure Dick failed out of college but he was kidnapped out of his dorm room biweekly. And Bruce was really uncool about the whole thing and essentially harassed Dick into going to Gotham College before Dick quit that too and decided full time heroing was for him. School was just There for Dick. He did it and did it well but he had no particularly strong feelings about it. His aversion to college came from Bruce being on his back about it all the time. Like when you're going to do a chore and then someone tells you to so you back out and refuse that was Dick with college.

#this is pretty accurate #he didnt want to go to college #he took business classes for bruces sake #he was acing his courses except he was never fucking there because of his robin work and that was failing him #in a lot of media dick is shown to be exceptional at math in particular #college was yet another choice that bruce was trying to control for dick #hes the type of guy to do his own research anyway #theres not much he couldnt learn on his own or that bruce hadnt already taught him #and he already knows what he wants to do with the rest of his life- be a hero and help people #its his only real passion #so his forray into college was just an attempt to get bruce off his back #dont mistake dropping out for hating learning or anything like that #it was His choice to leave despite bruces feelings on the matter thats important #he values his own choices his own independence his own desires

Every superhero and vigilante has has a costume like that at some point, something daring or a bit ridiculous that in hindsight that they just couldn't make work for whatever reason. Nightwing? The pretty motherfucker not only made it work, he slayed in that outfit. It looks ridiculous by itself on display in the batcave but not when Nightwing puts it on

The only reason Dick doesn't know this is because all his siblings have collectively gaslit him into thinking that it's his worst costume to date.

Interesting that Stephanie Brown reminds Dick of a young Barbara Gordon but reminds Bruce of a young Dick Grayson. So much to read into there.

Batgirl (2009) #7 & Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Batgirl

They’re both projecting. They’re impressed by what they see in Steph so they liken her to the person they hold in the highest of regards; for Dick that’s Babs and for Bruce that’s Dick.

On the other hand, Stephanie, current Batgirl and former Robin, does in fact draw parallels to both Babs and Dick; the first Batgirl and Robin!! And Dick and Bruce recognise this. Her spirit is relentless and fucking unbreakable and she’s independent to a fault; qualities associated with Babs’ strong character. More technically, she’s light-footed, agile and always pinging around the battlefield, and she’s also cunning, always using her words to throw off her opponents; skills and techniques particularly associated with how Dick operates.

Another important thing to note is that that Dick, now Batman, has come to know Stephanie as the Batgirl, and so likens her to the original Batgirl, while Bruce still remembers Stephanie as his Robin, and so likens her to the original Robin.

Nevertheless, despite what a lot of the bat fandom may tell you, people can be more than just one thing.

I think people kinda forget that Dick is as much of a New York's hero as a Gotham and Blüdhaven's.

His creation as Nightwing was in New York. The entirety of the New Titans run was in New York, the end of his first solo (more than 30 issues) happens in New York again.

The Titans (1999) have their base in New York again.

New York is his city of choice when Blüdhaven is destroyed. Not Gotham.

I love Teen Titans Year One for a lot of reasons and consider it a must read.

One of those reasons is the portrayal of Aqualad/Garth just being the most extra funky creep fish dude. He is so strange in this book and I love it. Outstanding characterization!
