Though the jokes that "since gay pride month is over, july is now gay wrath month" are funny and all, it's important to remember that July is ACTUALLY Disability Pride Month and y'all should really be focused on boosting disabled voices and issues this month! For instance, the fact that marriage equality doesn't actually truly exist in the United States for disabled people, or the fact that disabled people are forced to live in poverty or lose their disability benefits, or the fact that 1 in 5 people with chronic pain end up sufferring from alcoholism or other addictions, or how accessibility is still a daily battle for all of us, or how there are active hate groups on places like reddit who try to "call out" those they see as "faking" their disabilities.
This July, boost disabled voices. Talk about the issues that our community faces. Call out ableism.
Its really tiring that most of the content in the ace/aro community isn't really about the people in it, but about educating others outside of it. Sure, raising awareness is very important, but I'd really like to see more posts talking about aro and ace experiences.
It has gotten to a point where half the posts are explaining very basic terms and the other half are just jokes about dragons, cake and garlic bread... it feels like its catering more to allos than the ace community itself.
I'd love to see more posts made by aces/aros that talk about their feelings, experiences and opinions. Especially sex favorable aces and romance favorable aros who arent represented as much as they ought to be!!!
“Hey my name is Lil Nas X and my pronouns are He/Him. I feel like it’s common decency to respect people’s pronouns just as it is common decency for people to call you by your own name”
If you havent heard yet, its just been released that Eric Carle, the author of the very hungry caterpillar and countless other iconic children's books, passed away last sunday. He lived to be 91, and will continue living through his books and the impact he has left on so many lives. Please remember to not say rest in peace, as Carle is jewish. Please say "may his memory be a/for blessing"
