discovering the queer country scene has honestly been so healing because most queer musicians i've seen recommended for years i just couldn't really connect with because it wasn't the sort of music i listened to or had investment in and with queer country it's like. yes. this is the language i speak in. this is Fuck You, I Belong Here Too, not just as a queer person in the country but as a rural person among (sub)urban queers, and saying it with a laugh. when will my hometown take pride in me, goddamn it

AITA for not visiting my grandmother with end stage alzheimers?

My grandma (91F) has been suffering from alzheimers since I (25F) was 12. Six years ago my family could no longer provide the advanced care she needed so she was moved into a specialized home.

She forgot me pretty early as I was young when she started showing symptoms. Her personality changed, the sweet old lady I knew suddenly became mean and violent. She beat my younger cousin (17M) with a book one time he went to visit. But now, she can’t really do anything. Can’t speak, can’t sit up, can’t commynicate at all, she kind of is just… there. Existing.

I haven’t been visiting her because I don’t really see a point but my mom (63F) got really mad about that and says I’ve been neglecting my grandma because she’s “all alone” and it’s the least I can do to visit her.

I feel bad bc the visits I have done make me incredibly uncomfortable, and I kind of see where she’s coming from. But in the end the visits just seem pointless, and super depressing.

I was asked my my mom and her sisters (60s F) to go visit my grandma with them for mother’s day. I refused. They called me heartless.

u literally cannot have some sort of kneejerk panicked guiltspiral reaction to learning u hurt someone u cannot start playing out ur imaginary canceled callout metoo moment anytime a loved one thinks uve done something wrong 9/10 people are only communicating that to u bc they want 1) their hurt validated 2) a promise to at least try not to hurt them the same way again 3) a hug not some fucking malicious attempt to destroy ur life

Accessibility tip:

If you want to automate your home a bit, but you don't want any "smart" tech, you can just buy remote controlled power sockets instead

They are a lot cheaper and easier to set up and use than some home automation smart tech nonsense

They don't need an app (but some models come with optional apps and there are apps that are compatible with most of these)

Many of them use the 433mhz frequency to communicate, which makes most models compatible with each other, even if they are from different manufacturers

The tech has been around for a long time and will be around for a long time to come

You don't have to put any fucking corporate listening devices like an amazon echo in your home

Models for outdoors exist as well
