the Columbia University arrests are worse than they seem. They're arresting protesting students for trespassing. It goes without saying students cannot meaningfully "trespass" in the common areas of a university they attend. So Columbia University has suspended all student protestors from their institution, in the process revoking their access to housing, their belonging, and most crucially damaging their academic futures. We are witnessing full scale silencing and removal of anyone of conscience from the next generation of academia.
can i just talk about the tiny plot throughout s2 of Woodsy keeping an eye on Harper & teaching her to drive??? it was just… SO needed and the storyline was handled appropriately and was fucking realistic but wholesome. Harper is so young to not have an adult to care for her, and as independent & brave as she is, it’s still something she needs and CRAVES.
the ENTIRE scene of Woodsy & Harper after Harper attacked Ant on the field during the game… just *chef’s kiss*
“You’re standing there telling me you’re all well and good but that girl I just saw on the field was carrying some pretty major rage.”
Harper, literally about to cry: “So?”
“So… I’m trying to help that girl, and she won’t let me.”
and for Harper to breakdown the way she did to Woodsy, an adult who, yes had checked in with her prior to this instance, but not exactly someone she had a close rapport with, simply an adult that was THERE and ASKING. “You really wanna help me? Give me some money so I can get some proper clothes to wear to this trial so I don’t look like a bag-of-shit victim. Or give me a car so I don’t have to catch two buses to get to my lawyer’s office. Or give me lawyers who don’t call me unsympathetic. Or get me a place to stay so I don’t have to occupy space at Amerie’s house. How does that sound?” (Also the FUCKING reality of these statements too just made Harper’s entire rant that much more raw).
and Woodsy just deciding in that moment that once Harper’s calmed down she’s gonna be like “alright kid I’m your principal so I can’t give you things but I WILL teach you things.” just wonderful
and then Woodsy’s excitement in the finale when Harper told her she got her license?? literally goes to hug her as if she’s her own child then dialing back because, yeah, still the principal & that’s not appropriate. realistic and human and written perfectly.
It’s so crazy to me that people actually think HARPER coerced Malakai into a threesome. Because DUSTY initiated that and it is very clear that both she and Malakai regret it. Like … Dusty initiated the threesome, and Harper, who is very complacent in sex and views her body as linked to her worth as a human, while intoxicated, agreed. Malakai, also intoxicated and emotional, also agrees. It’s crazy to me that Harper gets the blame and hate for that scene when DUSTY FUCKING INITIATED IT!! DUSTY COERCED MALAKAI AND HARPER! IT WAS DUSTY THAT DID SOMETHING WRONG! Harper and Malakai were both intoxicated and both mentally unwell and they both regret doing it. DUSTY is the one that should be getting the hate for that scene.
one kind of massive difference i noticed is that in amerie's memory, when they approach spider, he says "what are you two doing here?" in a fairly friendly manner. But in harper's memory (and the more 'accurate' version of events), he says "what are you two bitches doing here?" which has a massive difference in tone... of course harper is going to be wary of them together and warn spider off her!!
Something I love about Heartbreak High is how when we first see Amerie's perspective of what happened at the festival everything is good and Harper is happy and jokes around with her but then when we see Harpers perspective you suddenly notice how unsure and uncomfortable she actually is. Like she doesn't smile as much and it's a little more fake and she's being much more serious, for example with the "I think my house is haunted" moment and also when her dad texts her. But Amerie didn't notice. Which is why she didn't realize something was going on with Harper and why she couldn't imagine that anything had happened that day. In her memory everything was great and perfect when it in fact wasn't. And I think that's a really cool way of showing both their perspectives because while overall they both remember the same things, their perception of How it happened is different
heartbreak high has literally the best representation of any mainstream teen drama show ive ever watched btw and if you aren't tuned in already... do so quickly!
