prompt: manipulate
Tawan paces his room. He isn’t bored exactly, the thrill of being back in the main family house is as heady as it’s ever been, but he is eager. It was always going to be a risk, worming his way back into Kinn’s life, but he’s succeeded in not being killed so now all that’s left to do is wait for his opportunity.
The room is bugged within an inch of its life, he knows, and he’s making sure the give whoever is monitoring him a show. He hopes it’s Kinn. The idea of him looking, pretending to no longer be interested, sends a thrill up Tawan’s spine. He’s confident it will only be a matter of time before Kinn gives in. After all, Tawan has had a good teacher.
It’s all he thinks about while he does his unnecessarily provocative stretches and cuts more and more material away from the shirts he’s been generously gifted. He thinks of Vegas watching him over the hidden cameras, Vegas’s voice in his ear telling him Kinn will be unable to resist, Vegas’s hands on his body, every touch a promise to the future they’re making together. Partners.
He touches reverently where the ring Vegas gave him should be sitting on his finger. He can still feel it— cool metal and Vegas’s warm lips both— lingering over his skin like the most delicious bruise.
Soon. Soon he can wear his ring freely, no longer held back by the main family’s prejudices. He could stop being a secret, and love Vegas as openly as he had loved Kinn, back when he had been young and naive and hadn’t known what was good for him. Vegas deserves that much. To be adored.
He certainly deserves it more than Kinn. Tawan had been reluctant and— though he never admitted it aloud he thinks Vegas knew— nervous to put himself in Kinn’s path again. It had been Vegas who convinced him that not only could he do this, but also had given him the drive to succeed. Now it was like a secret game shared between the two of them, and Vegas’s confidence at Tawan’s capability was a persistent glow that lights him from within. There’s no room for fear when he keeps Vegas’s words close to his heart: It will all be worth it, because it means they can be together.

This could fall under regret, and it's certainly one of my favorite platonic/family relationships, but no prompt really.
Just realizing during rewatch how this is the first time Kinn has ever gotten to go out with his brother. How he brings his friends and gets drunk and undignified and just has a good time, savoring the moment. How sweet and heartbreaking it is at the same time.

Okay, eleven episodes in, it's about time we ask a very important question: How do the bodyguard jobs work?
Tumblr media
Like, look at how blasé papa Korn is here when he's admitting to - well, what exactly?
Are the bodyguards (and, presumably, all of the other staff who work for the main family) really not allowed to quit their jobs? Does Korn normally have them killed when they try to quit? Or forced into an extreme form of an NDA, like a certain police inspector...
Tumblr media
I mean, I can understand why the mafia business would be a lifelong commitment, since the higher ups wouldn't want to take the chance of someone running to the cops/other gangs with all of their secrets...
Tumblr media
And hell, we know from episode 2 that the main family restricts their bodyguards' connections to the outside world - only letting them use cellphones on missions, and making them use a very public (recorded) phone when they have to make a call
Tumblr media
But then in this very same episode, we see Pete 'go home to visit his grandma' - a message 'he' sent from the very cellphone he was given for his mission - and Kinn is only perturbed about it because it felt weird to him that Pete would text instead of calling...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a side note, Pete's grandma seems to know he works for the mafia (or else, what does she think the 'main family' is?)… Surely the bodyguards aren't allowed to tell their families what they really do for a living? (Is it just that it's Pete, and Kinn trusts him? Is that why Vegas went this route to kidnap him - knowing he's a loyal soldier to the main family - instead of making it look like Pete died in the line of duty?)
Just - where does the line get drawn with the main family bodyguards? Do they have any freedom to choose when they've had enough of this job, or did they literally sign their lives away?

Arm has a top-secret file that he keeps on a separate partition of his hard drive, locked behind three different password walls. It’s a list of all of the main family’s bodyguards, ranked by how likely they are to be the mole.
(It’s top-secret because he’s not supposed to be looking into this. Chan explicitly ordered him not to.)
There’s a handful of people Arm doesn’t even bother putting on the list. Pol, for one. Pete. Erika. Chan.
By contrast, every single one of Kinn’s personal bodyguards, past and present, is a prime suspect. Kinn’s had a notorious streak of bad luck lately. Four murder attempts in four months cannot be a coincidence.
Ken is just aloof enough that nobody seems to know what he’s up to on his off-days. This rockets him straight to the top of Arm’s list, tied with Big, who has fallen so far out of favor with Kinn that Arm can’t help but wonder if Kinn is doing it on purpose.
And then there’s the name directly under those two.
“Be honest,” he says to Pete one day. They’re sequestered in his armory, but he keeps his voice low: there’s no harm in being careful with matters like this. “Do you think there’s any chance Porsche is the mole?”
Pete is silent for a good, long moment.
“You live with him,” Arm says. “You’ve been on more missions with him than me. If anyone here knows him best, it’s you.”
“There are reasons to suspect him,” Pete says slowly. “A lot of his missions have gone wrong. He didn’t stop that girl from attacking Kinn in the bathroom. The casino stakeout was a mess. The diamond auction was worse.”
“But…?”
Pete sighs. “I don’t know. He’s young. He’s made a lot of mistakes, but he’s improving.”
Arm stares forlornly at his list, cursor blinking innocently next to Porsche’s name. “Pete, I can’t clear his name just because he’s young.”
“No,” Pete concedes. He leans back in his chair, arms crossed behind his head. “But he’s kind, too. He’s principled. He won’t betray people he cares about.”
“And that’s enough? You trust him?”
“I do.”
The knot in Arm’s chest jerks tighter. “But… he’s so likable.”
“Ohhh, right, he’s nice. Never mind. Death by firing squad.”
Arm smiles, sheepish.
“Okay,” Pete says. “So you think he’s tricking us?”
“Shit, Pete, I don’t know,” Arm splutters. “Isn't it possible?”
“I don't think so. Porsche isn't like that.”
Arm considers this, then plops his face into his hand.
“Did you want me to say something else?” Pete says, faintly amused.
“Yes,” Arm groans.
“Why?”
“Because…” Arm trails off.
Because the security of the main family rests on his shoulders. Arm cannot afford to be anything other than objective; he needs to leave Porsche on his list.
But the problem is that Porsche barreled into their lives and immediately made Khun Noo happier than Arm had ever seen before. The problem is that Pol hasn’t been this comfortable around someone since Arm himself. The problem is that Arm vaguely remembers being carried home from Hum Bar by an equally drunk Porsche, who took off his shoes for him and tucked him into bed and grinned brightly over his shoulder before staggering out the door.
The problem is that Arm is biased.
Pete, on the other hand, is the most level-headed person Arm knows. Leaving Porsche’s name on his list wouldn’t feel so terrible if Pete agreed with it.
“I wanted you to give me a reason to keep him on here,” Arm mumbles. “I feel bad. He’s our friend.”
“You’re doing your job,” Pete says sincerely. “There’s no shame in that. But…” He reaches over to pat Arm on the shoulder. “There’s nothing wrong with trusting your gut. If you think he’s innocent, leave him off.”
Arm mulls over this. Then he pokes Pete in the side. “I think I trust your gut more than mine.”
Pete lets out a laugh, incredulous, and pokes Arm back.
-
Later, Arm highlights Porsche’s entry with his cursor and drags it to the bottom of the file. Then he pauses. His hand hovers over the delete button.
He thinks about Pete saying, I trust him. He thinks about what Pete didn’t quite say: you should trust yourself, too.
He hits delete.

Oooooh - interesting!
They never did say that Pete was reassigned back to Tankuhn after Kuhn 'gave' Porsche back to Kinn, did they?
(Of course, we do still see Pete hang out with Tankuhn - at the hospital, on movie night, etc. - but the bodyguard roles have always seemed to have some flexibility for them to be commanded elsewhere...)
I could totally see this being the hierarchy! Korn does still hold power over Kinn, even while he's given Kinn the family ring, and Chan mostly sticks with Korn (until ep 14, where we'll see him switch).
So, Chan is the mentor to all of the bodyguards and is ultimately in charge of them, but whoever is acting as Kinn's head bodyguard would also have a high level of control over the bodyguard detail over, since Kinn is the active leader.
(If that's the case, then good on Vegas for keeping track, because the turnover rate of Kinn's head bodyguard is higher than most retail jobs...)
Tumblr media
This is a translation error, right?
Like - I fully believe Pete is the head of Tankuhn's bodyguards, in the same way that Big (and then Porsche) was head of Kinn's, but I never got the impression that Pete was head of all of them.
If Vegas had said the ‘most trusted’ or ‘loyal’ bodyguard, then absolutely - Kinn told us as much in the last episode:
Tumblr media
But ‘head’ doesn’t make sense to me. That's Chan's job, isn't it?

Ok. So.
Tawan, the little sap, totally falls for Vegas "proposing" to him, and it is the main motivation for him to try this plot to deceive Kinn.
Tumblr media
But I feel like this isn't the first time Vegas has put a ring on it to make a man do his bidding, you know?
So you can imagine how my mind went a turning when I noticed something shiny on Ken's finger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What were they doing indeed, Gun? What indeed. Now, I fully acknowledge that it could they could be different rings AND they are on different hands but what if? We all know that Vegas prefers to lull people into a false sense of security before he turns on the crazy. What could motivate Ken to betray the man he was betraying his boss for? Surely not more money, not for the wild chance Vegas would succeed this time. Maybe...for love?

So I ask you, my people,

KINNPORSCHE TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT
— prompt: trust
Big can feel Kinn's eyes burrowing into his back from across the room.
"Porsche, this isn't– I mean what about Kinn, what about–"
Porsche's fingers graze the skin above his waistband. He gasps quietly.
"I told you it's fine." Porsche murmurs, leaning closer. "Do you trust me?"
Big doesn't answer, but doesn't back away either, only letting out a shaky exhale.
What a curious thing to want so much.
"Trust me. Please?" Torturously slowly and carefully, Porsche leans in to kiss him.
And despite his instincts telling him that this is wrong, he can't have this, he pulls him closer.

Finally result was Tay, with Arm in second place!
I’m not surprised by the winner here - Tay reminds us of how good a friend he is every time he’s on screen - but I was actually expecting Jom to be higher. Good on Arm!
(And, of course, the three people who voted Chan are the realest of us all)
Best Friends
In honour of today's prompt "Favourite Platonic Relationship", I think it's time we give an award out to the best friend on the show - vote for your pick below!
Disclaimer: for the purposes of this (very limited) poll, I'm only including 'supporting' characters whose primary purpose on the show is to be a friend/like a friend to one of the more primary characters.
Feel free to talk about friendships between main characters in the replies, though!

The show obviously had to move on, plot-wise, but I could have watched a bunch more episodes just featuring them all being chaos incarnate together.

Oh, I feel dumb - I always saw Porsche in this scene as just a bundle of nerves, after being put on the spot in front of Kinn's family. And I thought his upset look here was from making the same assumption as the bodyguards listening in: that Korn wasn't just forbidding him from being Kinn's bodyguard, but his boyfriend too.
But that's not it (or, at least, not all of it); Porsche is disappointed here because he didn't want to resign as Kinn's bodyguard.
I’ve only just realized that Kinn was acting all on his own when he went to get his family’s blessing - he'd listened to Porsche explain his problem with Chay and then immediately jumped to the rescue, without even telling Porsche what he was going to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No wonder Porsche was being awkward in this scene - he was completely blindsided!
He's called into Korn's office out of the blue, held at gunpoint by uncle Chan (ha), only to find out his boyfriend confessed to his family and lost him his job. The job he's finally found purpose in, that lets him lean into his protective instincts to take care of Kinn.
And Kinn thought he was doing such a nice thing here too…
