I see a lot of ppl who doesn't like mike's new haircut and don't get me wrong i was also not expecting mike to have a short hair but think about it..

It looks like kinda season 1-ish

Like they were purposely tryna going with the s1 mike vibe and did yall forget that this season mike was where mike was the best ever friend to will?

Like I'm not really good at explaining but this is just a theoryy that maybe his hair does have smtg to do about how they want to show how he acts like..

S1- short hair (litterally was obsessed w finding will)

S2- abt the same (the mike that everyone loves)

S3- he started to act more teenager-y w el and alot of ppl say bcs he wants to look 'normal' cuz yknow byler theories and stuff

S4- his hair got longer and he definitely was dealing w internalised homophobia and being normal and being a kind of a bad friend

About Goh grabbing hold of Ash (and Ash's reaction) after being startled by some Woobats... I have some thoughts (which I'm sure comes as no surprise to anyone that follows me... 😆).

There are a few different ways to interpret this scene. Obviously, it's meant to be funny in the way it's set up. The boys walk in a way that beams confidence, ready to tackle whatever challenges and dangers await ahead deep in the mine. They aren't afraid!

Oh. Um...

The boys act all tough and then get easily spooked. It's a shame this scene wasn't animated in the style of an old-school Scooby-Doo cartoon, because if it had been, Goh would've jumped into Ash's arms and we would've gotten something like this:

Then again, maybe it's for the better we didn't 'cause the entire SatoGou fandom might've had a collective heart attack. 🤣

Anyway, it's not uncommon for two characters to grab hold of each other when something makes one (or both) jump; it's meant to make people laugh, just as I did when it happened here to Ash and Goh in episode 80. What comes next though isn't as cut and dry:

On the surface (and hey I freely admit that there might not be anything below the surface... buuuuuut that's not why we're here! 😉), it looks like this is meant to be played for laughs (and it is, but maybe not entirely - I'll be getting to that) with the way everyone is staring at Goh after the way he reacted and Goh trying hard to divert their attention.

It's natural for Goh to be embarrassed here, but given Ash's reaction (which I'll get into in a bit), I wonder if there might be a little more to his behavior (and this scene). Is he just embarrassed for getting scared over something so trivial (so scared in fact that he felt the instinctive need to grab hold of Ash?) or is his embarrassment also due to not wanting to look weak in front of Ash (in general, but here specifically because he wants to prove he's worthy of joining Project Mew)? Is he partly (or mainly?) panicking over realizing he has both hands on Ash's shoulders? If he does have a crush on Ash, I could see his reaction here being the same; quickly backing off, not directly acknowledging what just happened and even stuttering a bit.

There's something about Ash's expression that's got me curious. He's not smiling (with his mouth or his eyes, as anime characters are sometimes depicted in happy/embarrassing situations). His expression doesn't change from the moment Goh opens his eyes and Ash's eyes meet his. For the remainder of this scene and up until the episode transitions to inside the mine, Ash's stare (and open mouth) remains consistent.

Just my opinion, but if this scene was meant to be played for laughs and laughs alone, at some point Ash would've been shown to have a smile/sweatdrop on his face (or even laugh a little) as his friend tries to regain his composure.

To me, the way this scene is animated strikes me as one of those "moments of realization" situations that happen between two people in movies, TV, literature, etc... when something happens and the eyes suddenly meet, causing neither to move for a moment or two as new or unexpected feelings surface.

If it was just this episode and this episode alone, I wouldn't think much of it, but when you factor in:

- Goh's blushing over the course of the saga

- Ash's seemingly far more touchy nature with Goh than with any of his previous friends/companions

- The two just "hanging out" because they like doing stuff together so much (the trip to Unova after Goh wins the Pokémon Eating Contest; he and Ash just spend all day together, eating and talking / episode 70 where the boys just walk around Vermilion City throughout the day; even when not doing research for the professor, they choose to spend time together

- Ash's consistent commitment to Goh's goal (catching Pokémon, Project Mew), which in my opinion shows him going to greater lengths than with any of his previous companions and their goals - and no, that's not meant to mean that Ash doesn't care about his friends and their goals, I'm only saying it seems like he's going the extra mile for Goh

- Goh's reaction to Gary (and how Ash behaves around Gary) in episode 68 and Goh's reaction to Zen's admiration for Ash/holding his hands in episode 76. At least some of his behavior in those episodes could be attributed to jealousy (certainly not all of it, especially when it comes to Gary)

I see episode 80 as just another potential piece of the puzzle as we try and piece together what the director and writers of the anime could possibly be hinting at. Like I said before, the anime is aimed at a young demographic and it's Pokémon so Nintendo is involved, thus anything that the anime staff might want to do with Ash and Goh's relationship has to be subtle. Pokémon Journeys is definitely a different direction for the anime in many respects, so maybe... just maybe... that applies to Ash and Goh as well?

I can't wait to see where their journey together leads to next. 💖

it was a little bit of both i guess. chuuya was so dumbfounded at the kid who just conducted an attempted attack on him while bawling his eyes out and, feeling bad, he took him to eat chazuke and scolded him on the right way to rob people (he’s not a good role model)

I've seen a couple of people mention that Atsushi asked Akutagawa “just the two of us?” already knowing what Akutagawa was going to answer, and I 100% agree. The way Atsushi doesn't look at him while he was asking the question, like it was a rhetorical one, the way the words seem to immediatelly soothe him... It just feels so representative of the growth of their relationship. Akutagawa going from someone Atsushi was terrified of, someone he hated, to the only person he can find relief and comfort in. Akutagawa just standing there next to him, firm and steady, being enough to reassure Atsushi even in the middle of a fight against a deadly enemy. Akutagawa talking to Atsushi with those words that sound cynical and detatched to an outsider and that yet will make Atsushi softly, genuinely smile even when the world seems like it's about to end: because only Atsushi can understand Akutagawa, and only Akutagawa can support Atsushi. And that's why Atsushi asked Akutagawa a question although he already knew the answer, because the answer didn't matter, what mettered was Akutagawa reminding him that he's there for him and that they're together and that everything is going to be okay as long as they're side by side. They don't need any more. I'm sobbing.
