Something very funny about reading brienne and jaimes sword fight on the bridge and how passionately it is written and you as a reader go wow this is just such a well written passage that plainly shows, not tells, how deeply intimately important swordsmanship is to these two characters AND is a brilliant revelation of Jaimes developing feelings for Brienne.

And then jaime thinks "DUDE... THAT WAS LIKE... SEX..."

Wow jaime so perceptive. Brilliant observation you empty vase of a man. Anything else you'd like to interpret for us? You oracle?

The Wild Swans

This illustration is inspired by the fairytale "The Wild Swans" (Hans Christian Andersen's version of the tale) which has has a ton of variations like: "Six Swans" or "The Seven Ravens", etc. The basics of the story include a widowed King with 7 to 12 children and an evil stepmother that curses all of the children except the youngest daughter into swans. To save her brothers the youngest is given a terrible task involving nettles. My favorite retelling of this fairytale is easily 'Daughter of the Forest' by Juliet Marillier (I would recommend it for an older teens/adult fiction audience). Have any of you ever read it? Or let me know your favorite version of the fairytale I am always looking for more! :D

The Starks have been called the blood of Winterfell:

The water sourced from the hot springs under Winterfell has directly been compared to blood flowing through a man's body, not once, but twice.

This got me thinking about whether the whole there must always be a Stark in Winterfell thing is an allusion to blood magic.

The Stark kids draw strength from the Winterfell.

The hot water made her think of Winterfell, and she took strength from that.

Arya wields Needle, forged in the fires of Winterfell, and even when she's away from her home she fights in its name.

"Winterfell!" she screamed. Blood spurted

Does Winterfell reciprocate this, drawing strength from the Starks in turn? Does the presence of a Stark in Winterfell somehow reinforce a magical barrier of sorts between the living and the Others? Is that the reason why the previous Kings of Winter were buried in the crypts of Winterfell? Because, to quote the house words, winter is coming, and they have a role to play when it does? Will they make a difference between, as Cat says, life and death?
