He stopped and glanced over his shoulder, a smile at his Grandfather’s name. “Not by blood… but yeah.” He admits casually. “He took me in when I was about seven and I served as his protege, later a Gym Trainer, and then from there took on two gym challenges before I was set to return and take his place, but…” The Cinnabar Island Volcano had blown up, and wiped out the island – luckily no one had been hurt – but the gym had to be moved to a ship just to accept challengers.

“My inheritance is my Gramps’ place one day, but for now, I just prefer travelling and learning all I can about fire-types.”

This woman here seemed to be a challenger of the gym he was from – but he wouldn’t be able to remember her, and neither would his grandfather, as per usual many people came and went throughout the years – plus he might have been on a regional journey, so…

“So are you just going to stand there and gawk or are we going to be on our way?” He asked in a joking tone, feeling the heat of Lucifer’s gaze on him now – said Arcanine having stopped and snorted in their direction.

Mio remembered reading the news reports about what happened on Cinnabar all those years ago. It made her nervous to go there, she had to admit, but there was also quite an irony with the fire type gym being threatened with a volcano... What was most important though was no one was hurt.

“Oh, my apologies!” Mio picked up the pace and continued on with Dante. It was still quite shocking to her; maybe one day she could tell her kids how she met the new Cinnabar Island gym leader practically by chance. “I have to wonder if we have met before, then. I doubt either of us remember, with how gyms work and all, but the coincidence would be interesting.” She rubbed the back of her neck out of habit. “And I must admit, I feel reassured about going into the Slumbering Weald with the grandson and heir of Riddle Master Blaine. Hopefully I can keep up.”

He hums to himself as they soon reach Postwick, the looming forest of the Slumbering Weald in the distance. “Fate is a fickle mistress as my Gramps says… and yet she is kind in her own way.” He gestures to his Arcanine who is ever on alert, chuffing at some Wooloo who pass by as if not even afraid of a giant dog staring them down – nor a dragon that could sear their wool clean off.

“Hmm… my Grandfather… yeah, I guess he is. He runs the Cinnabar Island Gym. He took me in as his own and as his heir since he didn’t have any kids or family of his own to succeed him. He gave me a Growlithe–” He looks at Lucifer. “– And the rest has been history.”

Mio nearly stopped in her tracks at the mention of Kanto’s fire type gym-leader, surprise clearly shown on her face. “Blaine is your grandfather?” She remembered that gym battle as it was yesterday, and could practically feel the heat of the volcano on her skin. How close of a call it was claiming victory from him... It certainly left a mark. And to think she had chanced upon meeting his grandson of all people! Certainly Fate must have something up her sleeve for these two, or she had a strong sense of irony. 

“Goodness gracious...” She chuckled under her breath. “Well, he always seemed the grandfather-ly type. It makes a lot more sense now, looking back.”

“Pretty much.” Dante was quite proud of how he and Lucifer had trained – and how far his partner, ever diligent, had come from a scruffy Growlithe pup determined to prove himself against his Grandfather’s Rapidash to a hulking fluffy beast of a dog that could take something out quite easily given the chance.

“– Sounds like it was fate that you met your teammates then.” Dante offers a smile. “Can’t say any of my pokemon have a story like that. I more or less see a fire-type and try to catch it. The only two that I received from someone were Lucifer here and my Flareon, Axel. Both from my Gramps.”

“Fate, huh?” Mio let out a laugh. “I quite like the sound of that, don’t you Char?” She looked over to the Charizard, who flared a few sparks of flame while wearing a toothy grin as a sign of agreement. Turning to look ahead to Potswick on the horizon, she nodded to Dante. “And besides, maybe it was fate that led you to find your teammates, and fate that led them to be where they were at that time. You can’t really say for sure, but you also can’t denounce the idea completely.” She paused for but a moment. “Is your Grandfather a kind man? He certainly sounds like he trusts you, at least.”

((Online, one of my favorite RP memories would definitely be when Mio blew up a blender in a kitchen, and rather than call the fire department she texted Colby. I just remember laughing so hard that day! It was by far one of the funniest things I wrote.))

((HMMMM this is a tough question for me. I have a lot of fond memories of interactions between muns and muses here online. I think one of my favorites would be the time the dash was commenting that a muse (Ry) should wear a magical girl dress, and at lightning speed I drew and posted it. It was beautiful, and dash just went wild. I miss times like that.))

((Honestly, the best way to get any sort of interaction with any of my muses is to message me, send an ask, or just be like “Hey do you wanna RP?” I personally can tend to be a tad shy with asking to RP with newer RP Partners, so sending that ask or message really is the best way to get something started. Mio is very friendly, almost to a fault sometimes, so don’t be afraid to just start talking with her. I can’t think of other specifics, but if you have any questions my inbox is open!))

It wasn’t long before Dante was already done paying for things and waiting at the front of the store. “Ready when you are!” He had taken notice of that Cleanse Tag as well as her switching things around and he had to wonder… was she afraid of ghost-types? Cute in its own way, but amusing more or less.

Lucifer offered a sigh, barking as he headed off towards the path that led to Postwick. [ Stop your flirting and get your ass in gear! ] The Arcanine barked.

“On it, Luci’. On it.” Dante was amused at how flustered and determined his partner was to keep him on the track which was discovering the secrets of the Slumbering Weald. “Let’s wait for the little lady though, yeah?”

Lucifer found himself stopping, a grumpy look on his features.

As they walked up to the edge of town, Dante and Luci could hear her talking to her partner pokemon. “Stitch, Amore, Miki, Lapis, and Ciel... That’s a balanced team, right?” The Charizard nodded, which gave her a boost of confidence. “We should be able to handle most things, then.” Seeing Dante waiting, Mio picked up her pace.

“So, you mainly deal with fire types, you said?” She asked as they began to walk through the small route to Potswick. “What’s it like being a mono-type trainer?”

“Hmm… Care to take a peek with me in the Slumbering Weald then?” A toothy smile is offered in response. “It’s just near Postwick. Bet it’s prettier at night.” Dark, yes, but still pretty. Besides, he had a roster of fire-types to light their way, and their was her Charizard’s intensely burning tail as well.

“I don’t see why not.”  She had the day to herself, and her curiosity knew no bounds. Mio had always wanted to follow rumors like her brother had, and now was her chance. She’ll have a lot of explaining to do to Colby when she got back. “If there really is a rare or legendary Pokemon within the forest, now is as good of a time as any to have a little detour. Besides, between two trainers such as ourselves, I think we will be alright.” 

She looked at Char with a determined grin. “Well, what are we waiting for? Do we need any supplies before this adventure?”

The praise had Lucifer’s tail wagging slowly behind him, his neutral expression revealing a smile forming on his features in a dog-like way. “After years of being partners – you do the best you can.” Dante admits with a smile. “But… I can’t say I’ve been to the Sevii Islands – only Kanto and Galar.” He hums. “As for what I planned to do… Well… I had some free time so I planned to see if I could find any fire-types there. I mean… It’s a forest, yes, but there are pokemon like Vulpix that live in forests, so who’s to say a fire-type doesn’t live in the Slumbering Weald? And those howls? I’m a dog-type pokemon person, so of course it has my attention.”

“Honestly, I find it rare that someone has been to the Sevii Islands. They lie right between Kanto and Johto, and are rather small and easy to miss.” Mio mused. “But the rumors sound very much the same. Rare pokemon, mysterious surroundings... They’re very alluring, I will admit.” She crossed her arms, clearly thinking about the situation. “It is certainly possible fire type pokemon could live there, I’m sure many pokemon would swarm to a place that humans leave mostly untouched.” Mio herself had never encountered what people would consider a ‘legendary’ pokemon. Her brother had once; though his encounter with Lugia was a short one, he was sure to warn his little sister about it. His warnings rang clear in her mind.

“It might not be a good idea to go alone.”

In other words, it hadn’t been a problem. That being said… there was the problem that the Galar League had a Summer League and Winter League so to speak. If she could find an Endorsement by Summer, she’d be able to take part, but…

Ah. Conversation change. “I have a Flareon myself, but Lucifer here’s fluff is more taxing to handle.” He admits much to the glaring of the Arcanine he was now getting. “Hmm… Well, to put it in simple words… it’s some sort of sacred and mysterious place that is said to be home to some powerful and rare pokemon – and locals report seeing the shadows and howls of wolves now and then too.”

“Ahh you too?” Even though Mio didn’t have a Flareon herself, she had always been around the fire eeveelution, and even more so now that she traveled with Colby. “Well, despite the challenge you seem to do a great job taking care of Lucifer’s coat.” She looked to the Arcanine with a sweet smile, then turned her attention back to his trainer. At the mention of local rumors and mysteries, she seemed to get a little more focused. “Hmm... Those sort of reports sound like the same sort that surround the Sevii Islands. What do you plan to do while you’re there?”
