not every change that netflix made to the atla remake was a bad one, hell, some of them made a lot of sense. but the one that bothers me the most was how they handled sokka and hakoda's relationship. while it's absolutely true that sokka looked up to his dad and felt like he'd never measure up to his standards as a warrior and a leader, but having him overhear hakoda saying the latter about him to bato was just... wrong. there is NO chance that the dilf we know and love would ever disparage his son like that, especially considering how guilty he felt about leaving sokka and katara to join the war. i imagine that they did this as a replacement to sokka's lost sexism arc, further proving that trying to make characters less "problematic" than their original versions typically hurts the story's progression rather than letting it flow naturally.
we need to get more insane about the yangchen and korra parallels
like. did korra wake up from her journey to the spirit world to discover her sister trapped and experience a haunting sense of deja vu? did she stumble over jinora’s name, almost crying out for a different person? did she vow to get her back at whatever cost not just because she loved her but because she already knew what it felt like to lose a sister and refused to let it happen again?
I don't feel like Korra's raw strength is talked about enough. She picks up this full grown man with basically no difficulty!! It should be noted that the Avatar state does NOT affect physical strength, only bending strength. Plus she goes out of the Avatar State while she has him up in the air anyways!!
There are a lot of really good examples of her physical strength throughout the show but this one's probably my favorite because it's just so ridiculous and blatant
Here's a couple season one examples just for the fun of it
world heritage post: avatar femslash fans on livejournal discussing the possibility of a lesbian or bi lead in the legend of korra in 2010, 2 years before the series first aired. four years later, korra and asami walked into the spirit world together holding hands.
i finished the legacy of yangchen and immediately decided to fix the lack of kavik content on here, can't believe i was blind to his potential until yesterday
(read the last one as how they would react to their love interests btw)
Basically, due to spirit world nonsense, Avatar Yangchen, Avatar Kuruk, Avatar Kyoshi and Avatar Roku all accidently separate from the avatar cycle and appear in the physical world, with brand new living breathing bodies to boot
The problem is that even though they've retained all the memories of their own lives they got stuck in the bodies of TEENAGERS
So now they're 17, 16, 15, and 14 respectively.
The only thing they can do now is try to find Aang and his friends as they continue through the story of season two (who have literally left the North Pole a week ago when the story begins) so they can hopefully try to undo whatever the hell has happened to them while also stopping the hundred year war.
