I am running a free community event on dog behaviour and communication for my rural town - just a small session showing various ways dogs express themselves, help identify actual aggression, discomfort, etc.

I would like to run a slideshow showing some of the expressions - for example, grimaces, whale eye, tense mouths and eyes, relaxed facial expressions and anything of that nature.

If you have any photos or could take some of your dogs expressing themselves, I would be super grateful if you'd send them through - this event will not be recorded or published, the images will be used in a powerpoint presentation and not provided to any members of the public.

I intend on staking out the local vet to get some shots, and of course I have tons of my own - but as we all know, various breeds display things in ways that look very different! a hard stare on my toy poodle is going to be a bit scarier and obvious on a doberman or staffy, and a loose happy face will be easier to spot on a bordercollie versus a bulldog!

i'd like a decent variety so i can show how obvious signs of frustration and aggression can be ignored in some breeds - and why a perfectly happy relaxed dog is assumed to be aggressive based on common misconceptions.

Yesterday I took Harley in for his routine monthly shot - he has arthritis and seizures so he's a frequent guest. Long story short, we did ultrasounds and discovered a mass on his spleen.

I took him on a long swim that afternoon, a nice drive, another swim.

This morning he was dropped off at the vet for surgery to remove his spleen. He had to be dragged away from me, he didn't want to go.

They did x-rays to make sure there was nothing in his lungs - cleared that hurdle, but his liver was slightly enlarged so they did bloods. The enzymes weren't too concerned, so they've decided to go ahead with the surgery and see.

I won't know til it is over whether it is malignant or benign. Whether it has spread elsewhere. If he will have a seizure on the table.

So if you could send all your good wishes, and hopes and prayers that we caught it early, that it is benign, that he comes through the surgery okay and I get to take my baby home tomorrow.

The top two photos are from our adventure yesterday afternoon, the bottom two from this morning when I woke up with him beside me and then waiting in the car for the vet to open.

Despite all his ailments he's so happy still, his hips crackle when he moves but he still leaps on furniture, he loves to swim more than anything in the world, loves to eat roo mince and mug for pats by shoving his head between your knees.

It is his birthday on the 20th of this month and I am hoping with my whole body that he will get to see it.
