some of my favorite mutuals post entirely about things that i do not understand or care about and our dms are barren like a desert. and yet the warmth of that big hot sun remains between us

Kids, wake up! Dad made buttermilk biscuits for breakfast!
[ID: Three photos; in the first two, freshly baked round buttermilk biscuits are sitting in cast iron pans, having just come out of the oven; they are small but tall, with lightly browned tops. In the third image, two of the biscuits are sitting on a small plate; one has been split open and spread with butter, and on one half is a red smear of strawberry jam as well.]

Strongly agree with everything crochetraptor said. I personally learned everything from YouTube, and there are a lot of free patterns there was well. I would often watch the pattern videos, because in the beginning it was a lot easier to crochet when I could see what the person was doing, although in between instructions I would usually tab over to a show I was watching while I crocheted until I finished that part and was ready for the next.
I'd learn how to make a basic square (just chain stitches and single crochets) before starting a real project, and there are plenty of tutorials for how to make a square.
Most people start with Granny Squares, as they are usually simple and rather repetitive so you can get very comfortable. But if you have ADHD, I would not recommend starting with granny squares. Start with a scarf or a simple stuffed animal. For some reason the repetition of granny squares does not work well with ADHD, especially when first crocheting.
If you start with a stuffed animal for your first project, I would recommend adding "no magic circle" to your search. Magic circles are tricky and frustrating at first, so it's not usually the most fun thing to start with. But once you learn them, you have the whole world at your feet my friend.
Anyways! Hope you have a lot of fun, and you can ask me any questions you have as well.
Bf ordered me the large beginners crochet kit for my bday and it gets here tomorrow just one day before, so I am just so terribly excited to start learning something new as I ring in a new decade on this planet. I have been itching to look into making a few things, including making some cute little stuffed animals for my nieces and nephews. The older I get, the more I find comfort in simpler things and I hear it's a good anxiety reducing hobby to pick up so I'm all about that. Anyone know of any good websites for beginners to pick up tutorials and such for crocheting? I'm a noob and haven't attempted this since I was like nine or ten. Please and thank you. ^_^
