Tumgik
The one thing that low key bothers me is people saying this album isn’t working for me and yet I’m previously years if you weren’t quite feeling an album everyone would yell at you.
Also like this makes sense. This doesn’t have to do with Taylor but the fact that we all have unique tastes and Taylor changes up her sound. Like it is okay.
Also… sometimes albums take more than a week to fall in love with. One of my other favorite artists I got to fall in love with an album I wasn’t as into at the time. And then rediscovering it years later I could appreciate it so much.

The fact that articles about which songs are about who were published not even an hour after the album was released infuriates me. This album is so clearly about Taylor and her story; not the men who may have inspired her writings. Never has a Taylor album been so centered around her and her reflecting on herself and people trying to attribute which songs belong to what muse misses the entire point of the work.

mini rant
some people are like I don't like this album (mostly just saying it's too long and the songs sound similar)
but like girlypops (and my gays, guys, and non binary and fluid folks) we are not expecting taylor to give us bops, let me say that again BOPS when she's depressed.

This album is going to take years to rank because there's so many things to consider while ranking this album, but going through a 2 hour album alone is going to take so long to compare and contrast

the telephone booth scene when he’s inside staying dry from the rain pouring down and he’s obviously drunk/high talking to her while she’s getting poured on and looking miserable in a sparkly dress. AND the fact that it all happened on the top of a mountain where no one else could see what was happening😭

theres something about this that makes me so happy, she closed herself off for a few years, which isn't inherently bad; she is allowed to share whatever she wants to, but there was a feeling where it felt like she had to verse wanted to. This feels extremely intimate to share. Also going back to the posts that were dropped upon release, it says the things from the tortured poets department are from the past. So seeing these images just makes me so happy to see her happy.

okay, I am going to take a temporary break before I finish the album; with longer reviews, it takes more time, and I think my neurodivergence needs a little novelty of something different atm.

I hate it here reaction
not the jump from a happy song, to hating life again lol
a poet trapped inside the body of a finance guy seems like my nightmare, there's just some business bros i can't do, and they're pretentious
wait, is I hate it here about a person, place, feeling, depression, etc...
once again, she does it, where some songs in the past a lyric like "but without a racists" feels like a side note to the song lyrics, but it works here, bc it's better integrated into the song
ill save all my romanticism for my inner life - so relatable (at least if she was talking about her mind)
I know with time the songs will differentiate more, but I wish they were a tad more different upon first listen.
~Favorite Lyrics~
I will go to secret gardens in my mind, people need a key to get to, the only one is mine.
nostalgia is a mind trick

So High School Reaction
wait shes so cute
she's giving 90's/00's, a high school romcom, hilary duff and chad Michael Murray in the classic a cinderella story
i really want a remix of this song, I want to hear what this would be like more pop-a-fied.
taylor truly found her end game, so happy for her.
You know what funny my mom when she started dating again in her 60's she also said she felt like a teenager (so cute)
Again I know they are aiming for a more sonically cohesive album, but I wish she could go harder on the vocals to make it more fun
sooo cute!!

How Did It End? Reaction
this is the end of all the endings
this so dramatic haha, but its such a good concept album
Taylor: "we'll tell no one except all our friends" Also Taylor: Writes an entire album of said situation
my head goes to joe and sophie thinking about a recent celeb break up (I don't think it's about that but it just came to my mind while listening)
So she's dead, but she still doesn't understand how it ends.

Chole or Sam or Sophia or Marcus Reaction
oooooh, so someone else is hooking up with people (or has frequent new partners)
hmmmm, so her and her friend could have been looking out for each other more
jaw dropping lyric: "just say I loved you the way that you were" this can go more than one way
why did you change
i liked you better before
you didn't need to change for someone else
you were always great the way you were
i love you
oh no, did she lose her friend to drugs :( (could be a metaphor, but sad regardless)
friend break ups are grueling and horrible like I can't explain how bad they are, this one sounds a little different, mutual if you will but ugh
wait no, this is about an ex (is this another song about matty)
~My Favorite Lyrics~
if the glint in my eye trace the depth of your sigh down the passage of time

The Albatross Reaction
References: albatross - a very large oceanic bird
non grata - unwelcome person
jackals - a wild animal like a dog that lives in Africa and southern Asia and eats animals that have died
The music gives warnings (which makes me think of the Hunger Games songs), but the lyrics give fairytales and classic pieces of art such as Romeo and Juliet. I wonder if Castles Crumbling brought any inspiration to this song? Again, it gives classic Taylor, finding inspiration in things.
a more common comparison is a crow circling around, which means something is likely dead or rotting below.
~Standout Lyrics~
and when the sky rains fire on you

imgonnagetyouback reaction
initaly reaction: shes giving ~sexy~
wether im gonna be your wife or smash up you bike, Im dead
the second verse is giving different vibes
this song feels very Taylor (I saw someone say that this isn't her most creatively explorative album, and that shows esp when certain parts of the songs sound like her old stuff, but that's not a bad thing by any means, it reinforces the TS brand)
I feel like this song would be really fun in concert (higher energy bc concert/arrangement)
this is the type of repetitive song I enjoy because there are slight changes in the verse/chorus as you go throughout the song.
~Lyrics I enjoy~
I, I hear the whispers in your eyes
eras fading into grey (I mean i have to)
pick your poison babe im poison either way

Black Dog Reaction
oooh this song is so good (as a short recap of my Twitter reaction to the standard album, I feel like this album is what I wanted Evermore/folklore to be. Obviously it would be different still, but the production of this album is so good!!!)
Girly pop really took seeing her exes location into a whole story, love that for her (in a broken-hearted way)
The melody is so nice, sweet, and sad. I also like the change at the end of the chorus without taking over the entire song. This really feels like Taylor's eras have collided in this album in all the best ways.
I know the starting line reference isn't about Luke Hemmings, but I hope he gets some extra streams because of it.
The reference of a brave man is very... interesting
I wonder if the college reference is referencing to it feeling more youthful, or originate during a college age?
this was a deep relationship or a deep bonding the intimacy she describes in the song, screams heartbroken, but the production of the song goes in a slightly different direction
The lyric about: selling the house, setting fire to clothes, and exorcising her demons just makes me thing about the fact that someone just lit themselves on fire today in protest (crazy).
~Some of my favorite lyrics~
intertwined in the magic of our dreaming
How you don't miss me in the shower, and remember how my rain-soaked body was shaking (I wonder are if these are two different references)
intertwined in the tragic fabric of my dreaming
