Asks are Open

I know I’ve been mostly inactive recently, and the comic has probably lost all of what little following it was starting to get. I took on way more than I should have last semester, and as a result, I ended up severely overworking myself. Thankfully, this semester is a lot more manageable *I actually have some free time*

I could really use some practice drawing the comic’s characters, so asks will be open until further notice

You can ask 3 characters currently:

-Dusk (see Prologue2:Dusk). All you really need to know is that she’s a generic edgy punk character. Biker, punk, tragic backstory, the works.

-Calamity (see Prologue3:Calamity). All you need to know is he’s a stubborn father with a relatively higher IQ. He tinkers with gadgets and sciency-stuff.

-Zach (his page was WIP when I went AWOL). Basically, he’s a father too. Imagine an Overpowered Character that has lost all his OP stuff and is now trying to live a normal life.

OR you can ask Derpy (my personal character).

IF YOU ASK DERPY, TREAT IT LIKE AN “ASK THE ARTIST”

I dont expect many questions, but anything is better than nothing, it all will go toward getting practice drawing the characters, and streamlining the process of making new pages.

Looks like this semester is going to be an Upload every-other-week schedule. I hate that I can't work on pages this often, but college has been seriously overwhelming. On the bright side, I'm starting to create this routine, and I *should* be able to stick to it from this point onward. When I'm not in a 17 credit semester, I'll be able to work faster and upload more often. A big part of it is that I'm still getting used to the drawing tablet/program. While I am still learning, it will take longer to make pages. Ideally, I'd like to make a page twice a week, but that is very far into the future. Page Description: Meet Calamity. He's the breadwinner of the Fox family. Father of Kit and husband of Katherine. His grumpy scowl and stubborn disposition hide his true tenderness. Typescript: "This is Calamity Fox. I really wanted to upload this over a week ago, but college was much busier than expected. Delays

It's actually really upsetting. I wanted to make page 2 every day for the past two weeks, but because of college, I had absolutely 0 time. Now that I *surprisingly* have sometime this Holliday weekend, The FoxHouse page 2 is the last thing on my mind. ;-;

I promise I'll try to force myself to work on it sometime in the next 2 days, but idk if I'll finish it. Pages take several hours & my free time has become so precious that it's almost not worth it *except for the couple hundred dollar website cost that I can't just take back now, so dammit I need to do this!*

I did do a doodle/sketch of a character that will show up a LOOOOONG way down the line. *also not even gonna attempt the hands*

Sneak preview of Prologue Page 1 of The FoxHouse. I’m really proud of the first panel so far. Upper left one looks the perfect amount of derpy for the character (name Derpy), but the bottom two panels look like they were drawn by a toddler, so im gonna redraw those tomorrow, ink it all, then if I have enough time, color it and upload the finished version here and to @thefoxhouse-official (which isn’t showing up in searches for some reason, if anybody knows why, that’d be a great help ^-^) by the end of the day tomorrow, otherwise it’ll have to wait until Saturday because of work

You’ve Been Warned

I had a bit of an emotional breakdown last night over some relationship bs that I’d rather not get into here. I’m just giving context to the fact that I might or might not be posting a bunch of sad drawings/doodles/sketches today to cope. Thaaanks~ ^-^

Meet Dusk, she is one of the main characters for my comic The FoxHouse, which is in the works, and will hopefully be going public soon. Dusk is the older sister of my Avatar (Derpy). I describe her as the "generic edgy character" (you know what I mean :3 ). Let's face it, all good stories out there have at least of of these sorts of characters to some degree. She's the whole package when it comes to The FoxHouse. Depressing back story, the "I don't care about anything or anyone" attitude, substance (alcohol) abuse, bad relationship to the family, accompanied with a dead loved-one, a ferocious misdemeanor, a misaligned moral compass, and a tenancy toward crime. Believe me, I know how cookie-cutter it sounds, but trust me, she's actually a much deeper character than she is at face value. This is her official description for the comic, as written by me in her Bio Page: "Just what you'd expect from your typical punk girl. She takes what she wants when she wants it, not caring who or what gets in her way -- not even the law. She crashes her way into the FoxHouse during a routine "grab-n-dash". Despite her clearly criminal disposition, the residents of the FoxHouse welcome her in -- are they Insane? Probably."

Slowly but surely, I’m inching my way toward being comfortable using this drawing tablet. My secret weapon: high volumes of practice in a short period of time followed by a relatively long break *as in I did like 5 drawings in the first day, none the second day, and this is the first on the third, and randomly, it’s *slightly* better. I remember a few years ago when I went like 3 months without drawing, then the first time I picked up a pencil after that, I was 30x better. Funny how that happens :3

That feel when you get an art tablet, and your drawings suddenly look like a kindergartener's again. I'm gonna be honest here. In the next 2 weeks, I work 3 eight-hour shifts, meaning I'll be getting really annoying posting a doodle like this every couple hours on days I'm not working. Posts will slow down once the semester starts up after next week, but until then, I understand if you unfollow/get annoyed from the frequent posting while I practice. In due time, it'll be better quality, and more relevant to the comic *once I actually start that*

Blah. Drawing #2 on my new tablet. Nowhere near where I'd be comfortable with for the comic, but still good enough for me to post. I'm leaving it at the lineart. The art quality is close to what I would have acceptable for each pannel, but I don't want something of this level to take 3.5-4 hours to make. *sigh* I just have to be patient while I get comfortable with using an art tablet to draw on my computer.

@glasscannonfodder , that's actually what I've been using thus far. Dynamic page generation for the comic pages and character bio pages. But I'm using jQuery to load a single template page and add the information from 1-2 variables stored to local storage using JSON. What's this about SQL? I've tried downloading and using SQL several times, but I don't have any servers I can build the database on. If I'm not using sql, am I safe just using the dynamic generation? What about using a cdn? If I should be using one, how do I implement it -- all I've found through research is articles on why a cdn should be used, but no instructions on how to use it. -- thank you so much, btw

Hello. I'm an aspiring webcomic creator, and I had a few administrative questions (making the website, maintaining it, dealing with a server, whether a cdn should be used, etc.) I'm coding the website myself with raw HTML, and I've got things pretty enough for my liking... except the comic viewer. It seems silly/redundant to add a whole new HTML page every time I want to post a new comic page. Am I approaching this the wrong way? Is there a simple solution I'm overlooking? Thanks in advanced :)

Hai everyone, I’m Derpy. This is the Official Profile for my new web comic that will hopefully be going up soon if all goes well ^-^

I work Part-Time, and attend University Full-Time. The creation, maintenance, and upkeep of this comic is done in my free time, and will be molded to fit into my already busy schedule.

This comic is inspired by TwoKinds and Bittersweet Candy Bowl. No, I’m not stealing their characters or stories, but reading these two DID finally motivate me to put this story idea up online.

In The Works…

Art Tablet: I recently ordered a Wacom tablet for $80, once it arrives, I will be able to start drawing the comics

Characters: I have all characters already created, but I need to create reference images and biographies for each of them before I can have them go public (they currently only have the generic template images)

Website: I’ve already put 15 hours of programming into the site, and I’m still trying to make it even better before I upload it to the domain. I’ll link it here when it’s ready to go public.

Comic Title: completely lost. The few ideas I had were names that were already taken, and I don’t want to end up with any legal issues down the line.

Social Media: all of my official accounts are being created/activated. I will be looking them here once they’re set up.
