The second track from the reinvigorated Glass Caves' forthcoming 'A Spin Around the Sun' EP is unleashed on the World today.
'Chasing a Feeling' follows hot on the heels of 'Eye to Eye', the EP's opener, which actually charted in South America of all places and notched-up an impressive 100,000 plus streams in its first 3 weeks.
Lyrically 'Chasing a Feeling' continues the 'break-up' saga, reluctantly accepting the outcome and confidently moving on with boundless optimism, ambition and attitude, recurring emotions in a number of their earlier songs, honest and believable.
Matt's vocals are right on the edge, adding to the sincerity and, once again, getting close to Marc Bolan territory in places (another legendary cork-screw hair do!), but the overall sound is actually quite heavy, almost a wall of bass set against a swinging drum beat, a sort of melange of Kasabian's 'Shoot the Runner' and The Temples' 'Keep in the Dark' but with an underlying sensitivity or thoughtfulness - despite that clumsy analogy it works very well indeed, trust me.
The Glass Caves sound really has 'pepped-up' of late, the new dynamic of core duo, Matt and Elliott, backed-up with long term collaborator Eddie, along with newbies Darragh and Ben is obviously working for them - long may it continue.
The band have recently recorded 'Space' - a live favourite from a few years ago which, had the stars aligned for them, would have been the stand-out track from album two should it have materialised, hopefully the track will make the final cut of the EP, rounding off what I think is the band's best work to date.

This is 'Eye to Eye', the latest single from Glass Caves, released 10th July 2020. Essentially a 'break up' song, full of intensity and vulnerability, a welcome return to their hallmark anthemic format. This track also formally introduces their new lineup and a slight change in direction with the guitars higher in the mix once again.

Glass Caves delve into their back catalogue for their latest 'isolation cover' (hence not really a cover I guess...). 'Summer Lover' was originally the tital track of an EP released by the band back in 2013, just prior to the rapid expansion of their fanbase that came about largely through intensive busking and self-promotion (to raise funds for their debut album 'Alive'). For me Summer Lover is a curiosity, with many Glass Caves songs there's a real depth of emotion and sensitivity whereas this track comes across as a bit of an exercise in 'let's gather around and write the next number one record!' That said, it hints at the charm, energy and sense of optimism that would later exude in copious quantities on their superb follow-up debut album. Oddly enough I prefer this live version, possibly because the original isn't that 'new to me' I suppose (the first Glass Caves CD I ever bought). For all the inadequacies of the isolation recording technique and mixing process the fuller sound and Matt's honed, experienced vocals, breath new life into the song and bring it bang-up-to-date.
The original track is once again available to stream on all platforms and is a worthy addition to anyone's summer lockdown playlist.

The corona pandemic lockdown has had a devastating effect on our lives and all but killed-off the live music scene as we know it. Undeterred, bands immediately began thinking outside the box to stay connected with their fanbase. Using technology to unite isolated band members in order that they can play together from their own homes, many have recorded special cover versions and are now sharing the results via various social media platforms. This is Glass Caves' first, a cover of Metronomy's 'The Look' - it also introduces two new band members, Ben on bass and Darragh on guitar.

UK national radio play for Glass Caves' current single 'Stephanie' today when Dermot O'leary gave it a spin on his Saturday morning show. Coincidentally it's 5 years ago to the day that the band played a live session for his previous afternoon show - I wonder if facebook reminded him?!

Glass Caves took to the road in March 2020, embarking on a busking tour across the breadth of Northern England in support of their latest single, Stephanie. The band played from the back of a truck in Liverpool, Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. The planned stop at Hull was postponed when nightfall got the better of them but they did manage a full set at a 'speakeasy' bar/restaurant in their hometown Pontefract.

On 7/3/20 Glass Caves took to the road for a coast to coast busk across the north of England in support of their latest single, 'Stephanie'. They began their busking road trip in Liverpool, followed by performances in Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York (pictured). The plan was to continue to Hull before returning to Pontefract for a party in their hometown, alas nightfall beat them and the Hull appearance was sadly postponed. They played a full set to an audience of around 40 guests at The Blind Big bar/restaurant in Pontefract.
