yeahhh yeahhh we get it knives, you are sad. BUT NO THIS ALBUM ACTUALLY TALKS ABOUT ED IN SUCH A RELATABLE WAY!!!! the way everything is portrayed is so real.

1.) Dark Descent

“My voice in your head and this world unreal”

- this is a GREAT first song to the album. It’s like a foreshadowing song as it references other songs from the album. Obviously this isn’t my first time listening. with most of her songs there are two characters, you and ‘ana’. ana being the voice of anorexia. it is gonna be referenced a lot so get used to it. 10/10

2.) The Smile Underneath

“You watch the way she weighs her food so this must be the cure”

this song so accurately describes how it feels to grow up being made fun of and the environment you grew up with. It also describes what happens during recovery and what those outside factors (parents in this case) think.

3.) Waiting to Be Weightless

- this has to be my favorite song from the entire album!!! this is the voice of anorexia telling the victim what they need to do. i remember when i was deep in my relapse this is all i’d listen to. this song perfectly grasps the thoughts that you go through.

4.) Girl Within the Ghost

- this is possibly my first time listening to this song. oh gosh you can really tell this is about how you just become a ghost of yourself. somewhere deep inside you’re still inside but you can’t seem to reach the surface. no one notices that you’re just a shell of who you once were. that last verse really gets to me “try to pretend, recover again, can’t see the end” it’s so hard to escape the never ending cycle that is an eating disorder. it’s addictive.

5.) Immune

- more songs about faking recovery!! to an outsiders perspective this maybe like what??? but it’s something that happens. people watch and observe you THINKING that you’re progressing and you slowly die inside. you aren’t recovered; you’re living a lie. this reminds me of my ‘recovery’ by the lyric “but still they’ve no idea. discharge me from this unit won’t know that i have planned it. my goals they will resume.”

6.) Midnight Run

- mmm this instrumental is sooo good!! during my first relapse i used exercise as a mode of burning off everything since i wasn’t able to restrict to the point i wanted to. never miss. a single. day. keep going to reach my goals. i don’t miss those days at all because now i have scars along my spine

7.) Pull Me Under

- now i didn’t have bulimia so i can’t really relate too much but i did have purging habits. I would use exercise and laxatives. the amount of overwhelming guilt of eating over my limits consumed me. i wanted that full feeling gone. now i can’t even define what full feels like. it has been so long. that and i had trained my brain to think it’s full when it’s not.

8.) Dysmorphia

- THIS THIS THIS THIS!!!!! the mirror lies!!!!! i can feel each and every bone crevice and yet i don’t look thin in the mirror. your mind fools you to see yourself way differently than how others perceive you. this only leads to so much more pain because you lose a sense of identity. it’s so cold and alone when you don’t even know yourself anymore.

PIERCE THE VIEL- A FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATIC

** these are all my interpretations and thoughts when listening to these songs **

1.) chemical kids and mechanical brides

- i love love pierce the veil and this song makes me <333!! you can kinda tell this is a break up song. the lyric “i still hold your breath so you won’t leave” just like mmmm jealousy and possessiveness. lots of ptv’s songs kinda surround this topic. i LIVE for songs like that LOL.

2.) Currents Convulsive

- UNDERRATED!!!! i can’t remember the last time i’ve listened to this song omg. man the perspective of having to see someone you love struggle with addiction pains one. you can just tell this is a very personal situation. doctors DO lieeee. this entire pos is just gonna be like “yassss vic sing it bae!!!” xD is she doing this to avoid the harshness of the person singing (whether it be a character or vic himself) idkidkidk

3.) Yeah Boy and Doll Face

- UGHH SO GOOD I CRY EVERY TIME!! this just reminds me so much of my past relationship????? lots of back and forth like is this going anywhere? are we back where we started? i remember being so attached to the feeling of suffering cause “she could make hell feel like home” mannnn. OH AND THE LINE “do you want me to let you know you’re OK” GAHHH YES?? TELL ME IM OKAY!!!!!

4.) I’d Rather Die Than Be Famous

- BEST CAR SONG!! GOES SO HARD!! this embodies the teenage dream: falling in and out of love and forgetting about the reality surrounding us. running away and risking it all for the fucks of it. GOD such a good song

5.) The Cheap Bouquet

- also been a while since i’ve listened to this song. this also relates back to the ‘fuck yeah we are teenagers we can do whatever the fuck we want’ actually thinking about it maybe this is about breaking up cause of “and i scare myself with all that talk of severing, Doing the best or so it seems You’ve been mistaken” cause maybe this person is trying to convince their partner that they are trying but in reality they aren’t doing anything.

6.) falling asleep on a stranger

- i couldn’t remember listening to this song at all. omg maybe i am a fake fan ;^; you’ll get my first thoughts on it. WAIT NO JK I HAVE LISTENED TO THIS SONG!! phew anyways i kinda imagine this as the person is lost in this world and their partner saved them. They ended up leaving though but the ghost will always be there. the ghost will accept them even though they left. ‘come back to my heart (i don’t care)’ over and over.

7.) She Sings in the Morning

- short song but one of the best imo. damn this album is a lot of begging someone to get back with you >.> at first it’s the realization that you won’t be able to see their face again so you just sleep to hear their voice again. the second part is the stage of anger where you try to convince yourself that it was real and everything in that relationship happened! “so stuck on the only thing that we know, what we know starts to waste” resonates with me so much cause you think you know so much about something or someone but people change, your knowledge starts to waste

8.) The Balcony Scene

- iconic song wonderful wonderful! STILL RESONATING WITH PAST RELATIONSHIP??? damn man but felt felt in a sense. i no longer really think about it but nonetheless it lingers. if i had really listened to this album like REALLY listened back a few years ago i know that the line “Can we lose our minds and call it love for the last time?” would have made me BAWL!! what i’m getting from this is “i am nothing without you so come with me”

9.) Drella

- i swear this song is on every single one of my playlist. “i didn’t think it could have lasted. Now we broke another bracelet, tore it off your wrist tonight” UGH having something that connects you and a partner break tears my heart. Things like bracelets for example hold so much value even it’s a simple beaded bracelet. not much else to say other than damn mf going through all stages of grief.

10.) Diamonds and Why Men But Them

- being grateful for things even if they aren’t what you asked for is important but it still hurts. could this possibly be about friends with benefits after a breakup?? “this remedy is worse than the disease” i’m think i’m just reaching but alongside the “a bed for a backseat, a love drunk memory” kinda does it for me. Being FWB after your relationship is ASS and the worst thing you could EVER do. Are we better off that way??? no. never. never the case.

11.) Wonderless

- now this song makes me CRY like a baby. it’s still after the breakup and he is like ‘you know what, do what you want but it’s all fake’ in the sense of you can’t love anyone else like you did me, it’s all fake! he is still most OBVIOUSLY in love with her still. he is recalling his past relationship saying maybe that he was fake too. he continues to say things like he can’t get the thought of her or his mistakes out his head. he realizes at the end; “…from the mess that i become, i’m destroying what i love” he now acknowledges that HE was the problem.

ELECTRA HEART BY MARINA

1.) BUBBLEGUM BITCH

“Oh, dear diary, we fell apart. Welcome to the life of Electra Heart”

i cannot express to you how much i LOVE this album. it follows the life of electra heart and has many themes the main one being identity. even though this song says i’m YOUR bubblegum bitch it’s not even in a submissive way. it’s like i’m YOURS and you have no choice about it. this is a GREAT intro song to the roller coaster of a story we are about to follow.

2.) PRIMADONNA

“Get what I want 'cause I ask for it. Not because I'm really that deserving of it”

this is what i wanted, want, and will want to be. this is “BIG EGO!! BIG PERSONALITY!! ME ME ME ME!! ITS ALL ABOUT ME!!” the beginning of what will be a down fall which she references in “the primadonna life, the rise and fall” i didn’t give too much on what it means cause honestly with this album she is pretty straightforward and you can just tell what she is trying to convey. this song is a mf BANGER 10/10

3.) LIES

“You're too proud to say that you made a mistake. You're a coward till the end”

now we get into the deep shit. this song i fucking SCREAMED cried to. this reminds me of mitskis songs when it refers to not wanting to think of the bad when you know it’s hurting you. this is like the step after that. you are STILL trying to bargain but you also acknowledge that the person is an asshole. when i cried to this song, i really never thought i’d one day relate to it but. yeah. pretending that a relationship is going well is not a good solution.

4.) HOMEWREAKER

“I'm the image of deception”

again, electra heart is a story album. you are following a chain of events (she has music videos of them). in this song she talks about how all you want is trust, love, and laughter but you can’t escape the past. the relationship from the past three songs is what caused electra heart (the protagonist of this story) to start seeking revenge in hopes to have a brand new start. she is only happy ‘when i’m on the run’ she is only happy when she isn’t attached to that previous relationship.

5.) STARRING ROLE

“When you are not a starring role in someone else's heart”

oh but electra is still OBSESSED with the past relationship. this song goes well with the events of lies. the feeling of only being loved when you’re having sex or drunk. i also used to cry to this a lot. i have a horrible relationship with getting possessive and if i don’t get that main attention, i feel EXTREMELY upset. “you don’t love me, not a big deal. i’ll never tell you how i feel” just !!!!!!! it’s EXACTLY how i feel in regards to relationships. “sometimes i ignore you, so i feel in control. cause really i adore you and i can’t leave you alone.” as well. this song is just has mari written all over it.

6.) THE STATE OF DREAMING

“Yeah, I've been living in the state of dreaming. Living in a make-believe land”

THE EPITOME OF LIVING IN YOUR MADE UP SCENARIOS!!! this song is JUST THAT!!! living in a world that you have created because people can be so cruel and life is just hard. it isn’t real!! fuck that!!!!! this goes along with the wanting to live in a pretend world/ relationship.

7.) POWER AND CONTROL

#girlbossmoment but like fr this is straight up “you have no power OR control over me” this also goes with sexist ideas that men have control over women and that women are weak. she states that all her life she has been controlled. BY MEN. jk idk,,, ANYWAYS yeah it’s the giving a little and expecting a lot because you are a man. “you may be good looking but you aren’t a piece of art” yes you might be a good person but you aren’t worthy of everything without a price. you can’t just stand there and expect everyone to admire you???

8.) SEX YEAH

YEAHHH FUCKING BANGERRRR. i totally forgot this song existed. this song really talks about how history (mainly sexuality) has impacted us. women are seen as always submissive and used for sex and such BUT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE THAT THEY DONT TEACH YOU!!! historically women serve men but no longer BABES!! fight what history has given you!! the thought of what a woman SHOULD be. FUCK YEAHHH FEMINISM

9.) TEEN IDLE

undoubtedly marina’s most popular song. covers many topics such as su1*1de (gonna use ‘scd’ when referring to it) and eds. she wish she was the beauty standard, she wished she would’ve been a prom queen. she wish she had lived that ideal life of a teenager, a teen IDOL. never thought that one day I’D be sixteen and feeling super, super, super scd-al. she talks about her regrets of her adolescence. i should’ve taken this as a warning but it’s not done yet. we continue.

10.) VALLEY OF THE DOLLS

“Born with a void hard to destroy with love or hope”

she is living with identities that do not belong to her. this song basically covers how it is to adapt to each person. she is faking the person that she shows to everyone because in reality she feels like no one. there is a permanent void that cannot be filled with love or hope. she says “i am ready for the last hurrah” which y’all know is referring to death. she is not saying she wants it but that she is ready. she feels empty, there is nothing to preserve. not even herself because, once again, she doesn’t even know herself.

11.) HYPOCRATES

“So hypocritical, overly cynical. I'm sick and tired of all your preaching.”

this song i sadly relate to. someone you love preaching to you how you should do and what you shouldn’t be doing. telling you who to be!! though, i fall guilty to this as well. this song just resonates with one point of my life very well. someone telling you what you should and shouldn’t be and believing that they did no wrong. sigh, BUT all is good.

12.) HOW TO BE A HEARTBREAKER

nvm this is marinas most popular song. honestly. not many thoughts though i strive to one day be able to follow these rules hehehhehehehehehehehhehehehehe

13.) RADIOACTIVE

this song has mari written all over it too. this is “be obsessed with me” song. your heart is full at night and empty by the morning, you NEED ME. this is also the bad type of be obsessed with me. this is like be obsessed with me so that i can burn you. this is why her love is radioactive. burn to a crisp fuckerrrrr!! though at the end of the song she states “ready to be let down. ready for a meltdown” big uh oh

14.) FEAR AND LOATHING

“Baby you don't have to live your life in fear”

this is more of a recovery song from the meltdown from before. this is a song talking about you don’t have to live in your fears or IN FEAR of being hurt. you don’t need to feel anything really. this leads to numbness. she references her other songs “i’m tired of trying to having it all and ending up with not much at all” (power and control, starring role) she also states a sense of hope when she says “i know a light will burn on when they blow me out” there is that fiery hope deep inside her. i feel like this song really feels like a message to death or about death?

that’s the end. this album is GREAT and to really understand it you GOTTA follow along with the music videos that are made in parts so you know which follows what. 10/10 might do froot next

BE THE COWBOY BY MITSKI

1.) GEYSER

“And hear the harmony only when it's harming me. it's not real, it's not real”

i really see this as a beginning to an album that covers the attachment towards a specific person. off this lyric it’s what you find in many toxic relationships. “no no they are a good person” they are hurting you but ‘it’s not real’ you want to focus on the harmony when it’s harming YOU. touch shit man.

2.) WHY DIDNT YOU STOP ME

“I look for a picture of you to keep in my pocket but I can't seem to find one where you look how i remember”

this part i kinda understand. you find yourself idealizing a person that you eventually forget who they really are. you have an image in your head over what they are but as in this lyric you can’t seem to find one that looks how you remember.

3.) OLD FRIEND

“I'll take coffee and talk about nothing, baby”

this songs is really hard to interpret. i see this as someone who ended a relationship but are still friends but now the relationship is tense. tense is not the right word it it’s that point where you would ‘take anything’ just to be around them. blue diner might’ve been that place where they had dates or such. it’s so conflicting but like?? cause the narrator is in a relationship with someone new and the other person mentioned (who they are singing about) is also with someone new BUTBUTBUT it seems these two still have a romantic connection/relationship. they haven’t told anyone like they had promised. brain hurt

4.) A PEARL

“But it's just that I fell in love with a war and nobody told me it ended”

this was my go to crying song for the LONGEST. that is mainly cause i relate to it an IMMENSE amount. it reminds me of my past relationship (hey if you are reading this don’t worry no major details or names) but the lyric “you’re growing tired of me and all the things i don’t talk about” communication was lacking when referring to our feelings. you grew tired of me and how i never told you how i felt. it was mutual, i grew tired of all the things you never talked about. the lyric above just describes how i felt for so many months. really this entire describes how i felt for months. when she says “i fell in love with a war” she is referring to her toxic relationship. she was obsessed with it and i’m her mind, it never ended. she continues with “there’s a hole that you fill” without you, there is a void. goes on with “and it left a pearl in my hand” which is like a memory the way i see it. i remember spending months thinking of those memories just to fill my heart with joy. this song just got me feeling too many things then my feelings ab this are no longer as vibrant.

5.) LONESOME LOVE

this is a very short but what i get out of this is the self sabotage. To me when i do something that i KNOW will hurt me in the end, it really just makes me feel like a did something good. i’m a winner in someway. nobody fucks me like me.

mitski, everyday you confuse me with meanings. good thing most lyrics can be interpreted in a way so that it makes sense to YOU (with respect for the original meaning)! the lyric above kinda reminds me of “how many things or how many people do i need around me to feel welcome” heaven is a place where you are supposed to feel loved, welcome, and happy. i’m leaning more towards the importance of possession because of the lyrics “i need something bigger than the sky. hold it in my arms and know it’s mine” i know i struggle with wanting to feel big and mighty when i know something big and bright (such as stars) is mine and mine ONLY. i want to feel IMPORTANT. holding stars could give off that feeling. also love the guitar in this

7.) ME AND MY HUSBAND

“...Will be gone, with my eyes with my body with me”

you KNOW this song is about being an immigrant. you move from a country where you grew up, where you have all your memories, and had all of your experiences. you come to a new one, you know no one. this is where the lyric “but when he walks in, i am loved” i promise you that when you stay in a place where you know absolutely no one, not even knowing how to act, when someone you know walk in you feel relieved. you feel seen and in this case you feel loved. it’s just you and your ‘husband’. i feel as if this moving situation can be both physical and metaphorical but i’m taking it as physical.

8.) COME INTO THE WATER

“But would you tell me if you want me? ‘Cause I can't move until you show me”

this is basically saying “can you tell me that you feel the same cause i don’t want to dive in without knowing” come with me, do you want to be with me? not too much i can say with this song.

9.) NOBODY

i think song is the definition of upbeat music with sad lyrics. i cannot find myself crying to this song cause all i want to do is dance. BUT THE BIG AND SMALL AND BIG AND SMALLL LYRICS GOT ME THINKING. i have been skinny and i haven’t, i have been happy and not, i have been friends with so many people and very few and STILL nobody wants me. in this instance i know mitski is referring to her weight which really gets me thinking. this songs revolves around the topic of just wanting to feel loved and important. the need of someone to care about YOUUUUU!! just to feel alright!!!!!!

10.) PINK IN THE NIGHT

“I hear my heart breaking tonight. Do you hear it too?”

you do you know how i feel? can you hear my heart breaking? this song is the bargaining part of grief. the constant thought of wanting to say i love you once again or to kiss you one more time. this is a very short song soooo

11.) A HORSE NAMED COLD AIR

“circled the same old sin”

takes a big brain to understand this poem, i don’t have it. the last part of this which reads “i thought i traveled a long way but i had circled the same old sin” really got me thinking of my own habits. during recovery i thought i had gotten so far, beaten so many of rules and fears, only to relapse over and over. i had circled the same old sin.

12.) WASHING MACHINE HEART

“Baby, though I've closed my eyes. I know who you pretend I am.”

once again with the reoccurring themes!! it’s the idealization of person to the point that they are no longer the same person. she goes on with “why not me?” the person who she is singing to seems to make up this version of her that ISNT her. she asks why isn’t the person i am not enough.

13.) BLUE LIGHT

“out there i’m a sharp knife. are you the blue light?”

the blue light is referring to the light that the moon emits at night. i feel like she is saying “i hurt others but you show me what i’m doing” i’m not even completely sure?? maybe it’s what makes the sharp knife beautiful? the blue light reflecting off of it?? i have no idea.

14.) TWO SLOW DANCERS

“To think that we could stay the same”

in my point of view, the reference to age can be in regards to the age of a relationship. just like people, relationships age. everything seems so easy at the beginning of a relationship. many think at the beginning that the relationship is going to last forever and feel the same. it doesn’t! you pass the honeymoon stage and things change. you realize who you’re with, who you planned to spend the rest of your life with. they aren’t the person you thought they were. that close intimacy (slow dancing) doesn’t last and wears out.
