Something I'm not looking forward to with Dragon Age: Dreadwolf's release though is the mob of people who are going to complain about it being "woke".

I know with certainty this will happen, because it has happened with every single DA game of the past. People were in a fit over the same-sex romances in Dragon Age: Origins. People were in a fit over the same-sex romances in Dragon Age: II. People were in a fit over the same sex romances and Krem's existence in Dragon Age: Inquisition. People will still be in a fit over whatever Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has for us, too, because bigots love throwing fits.

It's been ten years. I still haven't played Inquisition. It just looks... tedious.

It's alright. I have complaints, but still get enjoyment from it.

So much better with mods like this one (goat mod tbh) that let you travel a lot faster imo.

Word within the industry from pretty credible sources say we can expect it this coming winter. We should get an exact release date in a few months though; BioWare has said that in "Summer 2024" they would reveal the game.

you still dont get it lol I'm talking about writers and why they write these things irl, and you're picking mother gisele as an example. she is fictional character. them writing her like that was on purpose.. because for all her goodness she is still a chantry person and andrastian, and will elan into those false believes. that is precisely the point. that is not writers agreeing with her, it's them showcasing such narrow-minded mentality in thedas. no one is saying victims should take it wth?? also you posted once sentence from patrick weekes out of context, we cant see what the question was, and we can't see continuation of his answer... (clearly there was more after that...) my point is, in order to have heroes fight the injustice and ppl be invested, you first have to show that injustice clearly.

What do you think elves worshiped before the Evanuris?

Because they retconned the elf gods the elves should still have something to worship that is not the Chantry

There is no hard evidence of anything prior to the Evanuris, but in the stories, it is mentioned that before the pantheon there was always the Sun and the Earth. So perhaps their spirituality was linked to that? Seems likely as it would just be yet another thing coded after Indigenous peoples.

Would just like to make it clear that new Dragon Age fans (as in people newly discovering the franchise) are absolutely welcome on my blog btw. And if you would like to ask questions, I will do my best to respond. I may direct you to existing posts on the subject if discussed in the past, but that's not me dismissing you, that's just me thinking what I've previously said still stands.

I figure with Dreadwolf coming out likely this year, the fandom can expect newbies entering the sphere, and by god if I can do anything to contribute to making their fandom experience even just a little bit better than my own, then that's a win.

Not to be rude but I'm really frustrated by lack of media literacy by the like of previous anons and so many young people today. newsflash, writers writing bad things and injustices is NOT them "treating characters bad" . Writing both good but also bad things and injustices is important for creating impactful tridimensional real world. writers writing elves being oppressed is not them supporting it.. it's a social critique that raises discussions, that mimics issues in real world, and raises awareness of them.. it's a social commentary, not an endorsement. same when they write someone being abused. it's not endorsement of abuse, it's social commentary of abuse! it's art critiquing life.. some of you really can't tell the difference.

When writing about something like genocide, it is extremely important to approach the subject with the sensitivity and complexity it deserves, fictional or not. And part of media literacy is critiquing when such a subject is handled poorly. For example, there absolutely is something to be said about BioWare writers choosing to make their elves stand-ins for real life victims of genocide, then pushing this kind of commentary:

Because we all know victims of genocide are supposed to lay down and take it, and if they fight back then they're no longer victims, right? //sarcasm

Do I think fans sometimes go a little too far with things? Sure. But "it's a social commentary" is not the defence you think it is, anon, when the commentary is saying... this.

hi, bitch with minor scrupulosity tendencies here, i put this series down years ago but my special interest in it recently woke back up and i'm tearing myself apart both over this series' flaws and how fond of it i still am anyway and i just. don't know how to deal? especially in that way of deeply relating to elves but not knowing what to make of how the writers treat them other than "wow this sucks, that's awful wtf".

i've been reading your blog for years and it's always been great, so i guess that's why i'm coming to you about this.

I don't really see it as anything to 'deal' with - there's nothing wrong with overall enjoying something while still critiquing what could be handled better.

I haven't read the novels but by researching and also playing DAI I already know that Alistair is Fiona's son, Goldanna has no blood relation to him and from what I understand Alistair doesn't know who his real mother is. So he at least discovered the hoax? And is there any mention of Goldanna after DAO?
