been seeing some takes I personally disagree with so I thought I'd share my thoughts on the matter. the trust trial was NOT a test of how much they trust each other. that, explicitly, was not the point. the trust trial was about whether they trust each other over the word of strangers/authority figures, and how easily they'd turn on each other when they believed outside forces were at play. and they succeeded! they knew each other well enough to realize there were no doppelgangers, and they were skeptical enough of what they'd been told that they decided to trust their own judgement of their friends over the premise of the game.

and now, the next day, they are told by their allies -- powerful, experienced authority figures -- that fearne and imogen will betray them. and what do they do? stand by their friends. even after imogen giving into the pull, even after everything that's happened, bells hells trust fearne and imogen to stay on their side, despite what they're told. THAT'S what the trial was about.

did they learn everything they were meant to? absolutely not. but it's worth noting that this particular lesson immediately got put to the test, and they passed again.
