We Must Know, How Did it End?
“It was tricky, really. Writing songs that come from a place of pain isn’t usually my thing,” Sirius says, plastering a polite smile onto his face. “It’s difficult to describe a feeling that’s so… overwhelming.”
Peter smiles back, and Sirius can see the empathy etched across his face.
“Okay, I think we have time for some audience questions,” Pete says, turning to the audience. Sirius follows his gaze to a crew member handing a mic over to a young woman.
“Hi, uh, hi. I was just wondering if your album is based on your recent breakup? With Remus?”
His name alone makes the blood freeze in Sirius’ veins. The fan isn’t wrong, his album is essentially all about Remus. It doesn’t stop his heart from stuttering at the mention of Remus. It brings memories that he’s been trying to write out of his system back to the front of his mind. They bring a lump into his throat, and he has to blink harshly to fight back any semblance of a visceral reaction.
Thankfully, Peter steps in.
“You know what? Let’s move on. Anyone else?”
In spite of a few grumblings, the microphone travels further, landing with another fan.
“Hey. I was just wondering if you ever think that Remus dated you for the fame? I mean, his follower count has doubled since you two-”
“No, I don’t think that,” Sirius cuts in sharply. Apparently, his need to defend Remus is stronger than his hurt at their breakup. Peter is opening his mouth to speak, probably to move on again, but Sirius isn’t ready to move on. “Of course I don’t think that. Remus’ talent speaks for itself. He doesn’t need me to be his way to break out in the dance world. We might not be together anymore, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is still one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Honestly, his kindness is indescribable. Everything I said while we were together was true. That relationship was the realest thing I’ve ever had, okay? Us breaking up doesn’t diminish that.”
The whole studio has lapsed into silence, and Sirius is really regretting the way he went about that now. Even Peter’s watching him in shock. Eventually, he seems to remember his own job, clearing his throat and breaking out into a smile.
“Okay! It’s about time for us to move on…”
Sirius is pretty sure that he’s been in a trance for the past hour. He doesn’t even remember the trip back to his house. All he knows is that he’s been scrolling through his tagged posts as his manager, Benjy, shouts at him over the phone.
“This is, without a doubt, the most irresponsible thing you’ve ever done!”
“I didn’t think it was that bad,” Sirius grumbles under his breath. Unfortunately, Benjy has the ears of a fucking hawk.
“If you weren’t a public figure, and I wasn’t your fucking PR Manager, I would think it was sweet, Sirius! However, calling your relationship with Remus the realest thing you’ve ever had?! That gives tabloids every opportunity under the sun to call you obsessive!”
“Yeah, well, it needed to be said,” Sirius says decisively. He’s not wrong. In what world could anyone ever see Remus as anything less than kind? Yeah, they haven’t seen the way Remus would hold Sirius through his panic attacks, say the dumbest things just to watch him smile, or the dance. The one Remus dedicated to him. The one Sirius really should delete from his camera roll.
“God, Sirius, you’re so lucky that I actually like you.” Benjy interrupts his train of thought, thankfully, letting out a groan as Sirius refreshes Instagram for the fifteenth time. “However, now you need to lay low until people forget that this happened.”
“What? That I defended him? Just because he’s my ex doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to say anything nice about him!”
“Yes it does. You can’t say anything too bad, or anything too nice. You have to be neutral. Peter was about to gloss past the question, anyway!” Sirius rolls his eyes, grateful that Benjy can’t see him as he goes scrolling again. He’s being called obsessive in countless different ways by news outlets, people who hate him, and people who have decided that his and Remus’ breakup means that it’s time to take sides. As he looks through them, he’s barely even pausing.
Until he reaches a post with Remus’ face at the front of it.
As much as he knows that he shouldn’t, he wants to watch it. He’s spent a lot of time watching the videos he promised James that he’d deleted and crying, but those were videos Sirius had filmed himself. They were personal. He hasn’t interacted with anything that Remus has posted publicly. He doesn’t actually want to be a stalker.
This feels… different. Mostly because this one has his name on it.
‘REMUS LUPIN BREAKS SILENCE ABOUT EX BOYFRIEND SIRIUS BLACK:’
“Yeah, okay, Benjy, I’ll stay silent,” Sirius says quickly, zoning out.
“Oh, really? Thanks. That was easy-”
“Okay, bye.” He hangs up before Benjy can say anything else, immediately playing the video.
It’s from one of Remus’ livestreams. His face is flushed a slight red, like it usually is after rehearsal, sitting on the floor in his studio. Sirius hates how endearing he finds it. He’s just talking, comments rolling in and the radio playing, when Sirius catches the message. It’s just another one calling him a stalker, but it stops Remus in his tracks.
“Right, you all need to leave Sirius alone,” Remus says decisively. The way his name sits in Sirius’ mouth brings a lump into his throat all over again. He really needs to stop crying over Remus, it’s getting a little sad. Maybe he is obsessive. “He isn’t stalking me. I actually haven’t spoken to him at all. Listen, the- the breakup was amicable, okay? We don’t hate each other, and we really don’t need people taking sides. All he did was defend me, which he didn’t have to do. It was nice of him, yeah, but it doesn’t make him obsessive. He’s just being a good person, he can’t help that.” Sirius smiles to himself, face warming at the compliment.
Okay, he is obsessed.
Still, it’s so unbelievably Remus to be so willing to defend him. To immediately assume the best about Sirius.
Just when Sirius expects the clip to end, a different song starts playing. He recognises it straight away. It’s one from his new album.
‘ I told the moon about you… ’
Remus’ eyes widen at the words. At Sirius ’ words. He never has been any good at hiding the first thought that flits across his face.
“Sorry, I’m, er… I’ve got to go. Thanks for- for watching, yeah,” Remus says hurriedly.
That’s when the clip ends.
For what feels like the thousandth time, Sirius wants to be in the same room as Remus, to have the privilege of finding out exactly what is going on in his head. He wants to press his thumb against the furrow in Remus’ brow and watch his face relax. Christ, he just wants to touch him, really. His forehead, his hand, his shoulders, his waist, anywhere . With a groan, he drops his head into his hands. He’s actually pathetic. James is the only one who’s allowed to hear about this, and Sirius is pretty sure he needs a stern talking to from him right about now.
There’s a knock at his front door, which Sirius assumes is James. It’s like the man can read his mind. The knocking is a little… frantic, but James is bouncy, it’s not exactly out of the ordinary.
He walks slowly over to the door, reaching out and pulling it open.
The moment he catches a glimpse of the familiar amber eyes, every muscle in Sirius’ body freezes.
Remus.
He hasn’t seen him in three months. Not since he left Sirius’ house, got on a plane, and didn’t come back. Sirius has spent a countless number of minutes trying to recall every single detail about Remus, looking at photos of the two of them, wishing that he had spent more time etching every line, every freckle, into his brain. He thought he had, really, but he was right in his interview. Remus is indescribable.
For a moment, they just look at each other, Remus’ mouth slightly ajar as though he hadn’t expected Sirius to open the door. He almost seems like he doesn’t know how he got there.
Well, until Sirius speaks.
“M- Remus? What- what are you…?” He trails off, watching the way Remus’ features set to something much more sure.
“Sirius, I love you,” he says suddenly. They’re words Sirius never expected to hear coming from Remus again. “I’m still in love with you, and I’m tired of pretending that I haven’t regretted every single step that I’ve taken since I left here. I- God, Sirius, I think we made a mistake. I- I know what we said, what we agreed on. It was too difficult with our schedules, we were both being too distant, fighting over little things,” he lists everything like it’s pointless, as Sirius tries to get his brain to fucking wake up and work. “And I get it, Sirius. I really do get it, I understand, but I’d take thousands of fights over- over dishes, or hogging blankets, instead of having to do these months all over again. This is going to sound really sad, and really bloody pathetic, but I’ve watched the videos of you writing songs in my flat more time than I can fucking count since we broke up! You told the moon about me? I know that line. I’d know it anywhere. It’s the one right before I turned the camera off and kissed you. It just made me- I don’t know, I didn’t think hearing it like that would hurt so much.” He seems to be hit with a completely different emotion, some sense of regret, and it’s probably Sirius’ fault, since he doesn’t seem to be able to get his voice to work. He can sing night after night, go on countless talk shows, but apparently this is what it takes to render Sirius speechless. “I know I’m probably overstepping a boundary, and this is really fucking stupid of me, but I- I want to try again.”
Yeah, the words really aren’t going to come out. He’s going to have to find some other way to tell Remus exactly how he feels.
“If I didn’t say something I just know that I’d regret it for the rest of my life. So tell me to leave and I will. I’ll turn around and- and I’ll move country. You’ll never have to see me again-”
He can’t say anything else, because Sirius is kissing him.
He isn’t even sure when he made the decision to do it. It’s almost like a reflex, the first thing to come naturally to him.
There’s not a second of regret that comes with it, though.
Before he can even figure out where he got the idea to do that, Remus’ arms are around Sirius’ waist, pulling him closer and holding him secure, warm, safe . His lips are soft, so familiar that Sirius wants to cry.
Actually, he is crying.
Tears start rolling down his face as he pulls away to look at Remus. Thankfully, Remus is crying himself, and somehow also grinning like an idiot, which Sirius can genuinely say is the most beautiful sight he has ever had the privilege to behold.
“Oh, my god, I love you, Remus. Moony, I love you so much,” he says quickly, hands reaching to cup Remus’ face.
“So- you- do you want-?”
“To start again? Pick up from where we left off? Anything, darling. Anything. I’ll take whatever you can give me, if it means I don’t have to try to move on. You’re not someone I can get over. I’ve tried, and I’m convinced that it’s fucking impossible,” Sirius says, making Remus laugh breathlessly and drag him back into a kiss. Not that Sirius is complaining. He would let Remus drag him anywhere. Remus is his everything. His world.
Oh, my darling, how could I ever have let you go?

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic is a Roommate AU!
(872 words.)
James is slowly going mad.
No, not even slowly. He's fallen straight into madness, and he doesn't know how to save himself.
When Sirius asked if one of his course mates, Remus Lupin, could move in for a while, of course, he said yes. Remus had been going through something, and James is always happy to help. Not only that, but Remus is bloody brilliant. He went from being shy, fairly withdrawn, to a hilarious, witty person who James is happy to call his friend.
Sirius clearly doesn't just want to call Remus his friend.
James doesn't think he can watch the two of them practically undressing each other with their eyes at breakfast, accidentally reaching for the same thing and blushing like idiots while they apologise, or trying their hand at fucking awful flirting. It's getting painful, the clear fact that they've fallen for one another right in front of them, while they dance around it like they've never been certain of anything less in their lives.
To be perfectly honest, James is starting to wonder if he should just lock them both in a room and-
"S'fine, I don't care," Sirius' voice cuts through James' thought process as he steps out of his bedroom and into the kitchen. James looks up just in time to watch Remus following behind him hurriedly. So quickly that he almost walks directly into Sirius when he stops and turns around to face him. "I'm not carrying you through the project just because you forgot you had shit to do, though. You can do your part later."
"When have I not done my work, Sirius? Christ, at this point I thought you'd trust me. I already apologised for forgetting!"
"Mhm, and I've already said I don't care. Go have fun on your date, Remus," Sirius says back, just a hint of bitterness settling in his words. It really does sound like he cares.
Remus must be thinking the same thing, because he walks out without saying another word. Sirius immediately heads to the fridge, dropping his head against the door and letting his shoulders slump with a sigh.
"Oh, Sirius, you're a fucking idiot," Sirius groans to himself under his breath. James chuckles.
"Agreed."
"Jesus buggering Christ!" Sirius jumps a mile, practically falling into the counter as he whips his head around to face James. "How long have you been sitting there?"
"Long enough to watch that trainwreck," James answers simply. For some reason, Sirius seems to decide that it's the perfect time to play dumb.
"What d'you mean? It's fine, Remus is just..."
"Going on a date," James fills in. "With someone who isn't you. Which, by the way, is really bloody stupid of him, so at least you've got that in common."
"No, that's not- I don't..."
All James needs to do is arch an eyebrow, and Sirius' shoulders slump.
"Okay, fine, yeah. I really like him."
"No, really?" James asks sarcastically. At Sirius' unamused look, he keeps talking. "Sirius, I'm not being funny, you should see the way he looks at you when you're not looking. Or even when you are, actually. I'm surprised you haven't seen it! You should have asked him out months ago."
"God, I've really fucked it up, haven't I?" Sirius groans, scrubbing a face over his hand. "I wanted to tell him ages ago, I swear! It's just, he-" Sirius drops down into the chair opposite James, eyes fixed on his hands. "He was going through a lot, and then I was asking him if he wanted to move in before I knew what I was saying! How am I meant to tell him anything when he's living in the same flat as me? That could go so wrong, James. I could literally ruin everything!"
Okay, James is at a loss for words. That's... a lot, and Sirius is clearly stressed out. He opts for reaching across the small table and squeezing Sirius' shoulder. Before he can say anything comforting, though, a rustle comes from the door. Someone's trying to get in, and if they have a key, they're really struggling to use it.
Sirius walks over to the door with a confused frown, pulling it open to find Remus, key held out and a stunned expression on his face. James watches the two of them hesitate in front of one another for a moment.
"Remus? What-?"
Before he can say another word, Remus expression fixes to one that James can only describe as determined, before he surges forward and connects his and Sirius' lips. Sirius staggers backwards for a moment, caught by Remus hands sliding around his waist as he reaches his own up to the nape of Remus' neck.
James doesn't know whether or not he should be averting his eyes. Thankfully, they decide that for him, Remus pulling away and starting to speak hurriedly.
"I got halfway down the street and realised that I was being so fucking stupid. I really like you, Sirius. I have for so long, and I guess I thought maybe a date would help me get over it but, God, all I wanted to do was come back here and see you, so..."
Okay, so they're both idiots.
Still, by the look on Sirius' face, he has a feeling that they're finally getting their act together.

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is a Florist AU!
(342 words.)
Remus is just putting together a new bouquet when he hears the familiar bell, alerting him to a new customer. Honestly, he's grateful as hell; it's been a boring day. The moment he lifts his head, his face brightens. His favourite customer.
"Hey, Remus! Just picking up a bouquet I ordered," Sirius says with a familiar, charming smile that definitely doesn't make Remus weak at the knees. He nods and moves back behind the counter. Sirius rests both of his elbows against the countertop as Remus grabs the bouquet of carnations and lilies. They're Remus' favourites, he always loves arranging them.
He sets it down in front of Sirius, before pulling out a small card and a pen.
"Did you want a message on it?"
"Oh, yeah, definitely. Could you put 'Will you go on a date with me?'" Sirius asks. Remus can't help but feel a small spike of disappointment at that. It's stupid, but he's really enjoyed getting to know Sirius since he first walked into Remus' shop, covered in leather, holding a bike helmet and seeming completely and utterly out of place.
Still, he dutifully writes it out.
"Okay, got it... and a name?"
"Yeah, write down 'Remus Lupin', please." Remus' head snaps up, stunned.
"Sorry?" He blurts out before he can help himself, and Sirius just offers him a nervous smile. "Did you just- did you really- you like me?" He settles on, watching the way Sirius' face flushes.
"Remus, I come in here at least three times a week. My friends are starting to think I'm way too affectionate, I just keep dishing out flowers. I come here to see you! I thought you'd caught on at this point. I mean, fuck, I asked you what your favourite flowers are last week!"
"No, I- I definitely didn't catch on," Remus answers breathlessly, a laugh making its way out. That seems to instill some confidence in Sirius, who grins and pushes the bouquet back towards Remus.
"So, Remus? D'you fancy going out sometime?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I'd like that."

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is a Hospital AU
(503 words.)
CW: Cancer
"Moony!" Sirius shoves the door open with a grin, trying not to flinch at how small Remus looks in the bed today. Remus offers him a sleep filled smile, shifting his weight until he's sitting up. "Check this out." With that, he triumphantly drops a leaflet onto Remus' lap.
Remus picks it up, eyes roving over the page.
"A medical trial," Remus says, and Sirius is so excited he doesn't even notice the trepidation wavering in Remus' voice.
"Yeah! It's actually really fascinating. It's a combination of new medications alongside chemotherapy-"
"Sirius." His voice is quiet, practically inaudible, but Sirius isn't finished.
"It also makes use of a natural environment environment to try to-"
"Sirius," He says firmly.
"Remus, you don't get it." He looks up at Remus with shining eyes, gesturing to the leaflet. "People are going in terminal and coming out perfectly healthy."
"I do get it, Sirius. Let me guess," He sets the leaflet down without opening it, "they're calling it the first real breakthrough in years? That it'll revolutionise cancer care? It almost seems to be a miracle treatment?"
"Yeah. Yeah, they are." He doesn't really see Remus' point.
"Love, I've been a part of countless trials. They all say the same thing, but I'm still here, aren't I?"
"You never know, though. This could be the one!" Sirius tries.
"You know, this is why they took you off my case," Remus says with a smile, reaching out and tangling their fingers together. "You got attached. Isn't that, like, the one thing interns aren't supposed to do?" Sirius huffs an empty laugh, looking at the abandoned leaflet. "Sirius, look at me."
Sirius lifts his head, eyes meeting Remus'. There's an intensity in them that Sirius wasn't expecting, slightly taken aback. His face is gaunt, exhausted by the constant treatment.
"You're beautiful," Sirius says softly, squeezing Remus, hand.
"I'm going to die, Sirius," Remus answers simply, gently.
"No. No, you-"
"Yes, I am. We both knew that going in, my love. You don't have to stay and watch that happen, really you don't, but you- you can't fix this. Nobody can."
For some reason, this is when it finally hits Sirius. Everything that he's been trying to do, the conversations that they've been having. It all finally sinks in.
The tears come with it, breaking down before he has a chance to say anything back. He can barely even register the way Remus tugs at his hand, pulling him onto the bed and wrapping his arms around Sirius. The moment arms are around him, warm and comfortable and safe, he curls up into Remus' side and sobs. He cries until he can't breathe, can't think, can't even cry anymore. He's grieving the life he could have gotten with the man holding him through it.
If only they had met under better circumstances. Like normal people, through friends, or at a party. That way, he'd get to watch as Remus grew old, grown right alongside him.
He fucking hates the universe.

Hey, can't stop thinking about noble and most ancient house of Lupin, and for some reason I decided to leave a massive comment on it... so sorry if you open your emails and get a massive jump scare. I didn't realise how long it was until I pressed comment 😭
Hii it absolutely made my day! I'm super busy right now so my writing is limited to oneshots and microfics because they take less brain power lmfao, but Noble and Most Ancient is absolutely TOP of my priority list when my days have freed up. I'm so glad you're enjoying it!

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is a coffee shop au!
(596 words.)
Sirius Black is a heartbreaker.
James watches his best friend carefully, on date after date, leaving a string of broken hearts behind him. For a while, he thinks Sirius is just really quite picky, waiting for Mr Right, until James asks him how his last date went, and he just shrugs and tells him that he's just fucking around. Yeah, it frustrates him to no end, but what can he do? He wouldn't be as bothered if he didn't know Sirius as well as he does. He remembers Sirius back when they were in boarding school, talking about getting married one day, mentioning his future husband whenever he got the chance. It's just weird to see him throw all of that out the window.
Still, it's not like James can say anything. Sirius brushes him off whenever he tries.
He even stops talking about his dates altogether.
Whether it's because James kept pushing, or because Lily hates hearing it, he doesn't know. All he knows is that Sirius is staying strangely quiet about his love life. He can't push anymore, though. There's no point, it gets him nowhere.
"Afternoon, Remus!" James says brightly, shoving the door to his favourite coffee shop open and grinning at the barista. Remus matches his smile, before arching a wry eyebrow.
"Where've you been? Almost thought I'd leave without telling you my news!" Remus says, already wordlessly having tapped James' order into the till and getting started on it while he pays.
"Well, I'm here now! Out with it!"
He can see Remus smiling in the reflection of the coffee machine, which only piques James' curiosity. Finally, Remus turns with a to go cup, setting it on the glass counter and promptly resting his elbows behind it.
"I think I'm in love," he says simply, with a grin. "Actually, that's a lie. I'm definitely in love."
"Remus! That's amazing!" James says happily, grabbing his drink and beaming at his favourite barista. "Really, that's brilliant! Didn't you say you were off, soon? I need to hear all about this lucky person!"
"Oh, he's, er... he's actually taking me out again, today. He's picking me up in a few." Remus pulls his apron off, James following him across the length of the counter while he grabs his bag and waves goodbye to Marlene.
"I'm so happy for you, Remus. You deserve nothing but the best."
"Sap," Remus says with a smile, nudging his regular. Well, his friend now. "Oh, he's here!" He watches as Remus' face brightens, before following his movement with his head as Remus runs right over to-
"Sirius!" Remus calls, and Sirius smiles, arm immediately winding around Remus' waist and pulling him into a kiss.
Oh, fuck.
James told himself he wasn't going to intervene with Sirius' love life, but... it's Remus. Remus, who just told James that he's in love. He knows Sirius' track record, and he can't let Remus get hurt like that. Just as he opens his mouth to speak, to pull Sirius aside and give him a very firm warning, something makes him falter.
Namely, Sirius looking at Remus like he hung the stars in the sky.
Huh.
The way he looks at Remus is startlingly similar to the way he looked at his first major crush, the one he claimed to have fallen in love with. It's enough for James, to be honest. They're in their own world, like they're the only real beings in the universe. Sirius hasn't even noticed James yet, and that's really saying something.
Maybe he is just really bloody picky.

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic is a bodyswap au and I have been WAITING for this one
(630 words.)
As it turns out, it's really bloody hard to pretend to be Sirius. Remus just isn't laid back enough. He can't hold on to that bouncy, bright energy the way Sirius does.
"Padfoot?"
A few seconds pass before Remus remembers that he's Padfoot, turning quickly and shooting James a smile. Oh, it's weird being the same height as James.
"Hey!" He cringes a little at himself. That was way too enthusiastic, he has to find a balance. James catches it too, frowning a little at him.
"Are you okay?" He asks carefully. "You're not thinking about Moony again, are you?"
"No, I'm-"
Wait.
Sorry?
"Moony? Why would I be thinking about Moony?" He tries instead, but James just looks at him like he's spontaneously started speaking a foreign language.
"Sirius, I know you said you'd try to put him out of your mind, move on, but I don't think you should. I really do think you have a chance!"
"...A chance," Remus says slowly, trying to play catch up, slow his heartrate a little.
"Yeah!" James seems happy that Remus, Sirius, is even entertaining the idea. "You should see the way he looks at you! I'm sure he likes you back, Sirius, he has to!"
Oh.
Oh.
"He likes me?" Remus asks, stunned.
"I really think he does," James says sincerely, but Remus' head is reeling. "Ask him out! You never know what could happen!"
At that moment, Remus promptly forgets that he's halfway through a conversation, opting for turning and practically booking it to the library. Sirius is hosting his study session, and Remus should feel a little guilty, but honestly? Nothing matters more than talking to Sirius.
With that decision made, he shoves the door open. Heads turn, and Sirius looks up. Lily, sitting beside him, shoots Remus a glare.
"Uh... sorry. S- Remus, could I, uh... talk to you?"
"Piss off, Black," Lily shoots back, which tells Remus that he never wants to be on Lily's bad side.
"No, it's alright. Yeah, 'course," Sirius says back. "I'll be back in a second, guys."
He's much better at being Remus than Remus is at being him.
The moment they get outside of the library, Remus grabs Sirius' wrist and pulls him into a dark, empty hallway.
"Moony, what-"
"You like me," He states simply, stunned, watching as his own eyes widen. "As in, romantically. You like me."
"How did you-" he starts, cutting himself off as his eyes sink shut. "Prongs," He groans. Remus just nods. "Listen, Moony, I'm so sorry-"
Remus has no clue what motivates him to do this, not when Sirius is literally him right now, but he can't stop himself from leaning in and kissing him.
For a moment, it's really... weird. He's never really fancied kissing himself, to be perfectly honest.
Until time seems to freeze for a moment, and he's himself again. Suddenly, Sirius is gasping into his mouth, lips soft against his, and Remus wraps his arms around his waist, finally, finally lifting one hand and sliding it into Sirius' hair.
He's rewarded with a muffled whimper, as Sirius throws himself into the kiss with an enthusiasm so staggering it makes Remus' head swim. Still, who is he to complain when Sirius tastes like mint and Merlin Remus is in heaven.
It finally seems to click that they're in public, both of them regrettably pulling away. Their eyes meet, and Sirius huffs a gentle laugh.
"So..." He starts, and Sirius grins at him.
"If I'd known that was all it took, I would have kissed you a long time ago. Avoided this whole mess altogether," Sirius says simply, decisively, drawing a laugh out of Remus.
Okay, he's not going to the study group. Not now.

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is a Travel AU!
(293 words.)
There's only one thing worse than sitting next to an ex-boyfriend on a seven hour flight: when said ex-boyfriend has a crippling fear of flying.
For a while, Sirius wonders if Remus has changed, if he's okay with planes now. He still remembers sitting and comforting him through take off and landing, trying to make sure that he got some sleep to avoid feeling heavy patches of turbulence. As much as it would be nice to see him not on the brink of a panic attack for the first time in years, it would sadden him a little to have missed that much.
The moment the plane takes off, he realises that Remus isn't okay. His breath catches in his throat, both hands flying to the arm rests, gripping both of them so harshly that his knuckles turn white. Sirius watches carefully as Remus, headphones in and music probably blasting, shuts his eyes. He can't avoid the way his heart tugs for the anxiety that he knows Remus is feeling. He also knows exactly what he's going to do about it before he does it.
Resigned to his fate, he reaches out and carefully, purposefully, places his hand on top of Remus'. He half-expects Remus to pull away, but Remus actually flips his hand around and laces their fingers together, immediately squeezing Sirius' hand. Sirius can barely even feel the pain that comes with his hand being crushed when just the contact alone sends a jolt through his stomach.
Oh.
Oh.
Fuck.
Maybe there is something worse than sitting with his ex-boyfriend for a seven hour flight. Having to sit with the revelation that he's still in love with him is definitely a lot worse.
This is going to be a long flight.

The Ends of the Earth - Chapter 6
“Oh, well sorry I don’t immediately have a perfect solution to everything!” He snaps, and before Remus even has a chance to argue back, Sirius is attacking every possible retort. “You think it’s so easy to live this flawless little afterlife where you sit and just forking knit , or something, but guess what?! I don’t get that! So what do you suggest I do now, huh?!”
“Well, I- I don’t-”
“Yeah, that’s what I bloody thought!” He’s back on Remus’ case before Remus has had a second to think. “If you were in my situation, what would you have done?! Just let yourself be shipped off to torture land, yeah?!” The anger’s gone from a small spark to a big, roaring fire, and Sirius just can’t help himself anymore. He can feel all of this rage that he’s tried to hide finally rearing its ugly head, and it feels, it feels…
It feels good.

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is a War AU!
(177 words.)
Sirius' eyes scan the note, desperately trying to make sure it's real. He can feel Remus' eyes on him as he does so, realising that it couldn't be fake. The note is definitely real, and it's dated.
Remus isn't lying. He was really on a mission. Sirius is wrong. He's been hurting himself and the love of his life.
The revelation is enough for him to fold in on himself, the letter dropping to the floor as the tears start. Almost instantly, arms are around him, holding him as he chokes out as many apologies as he can.
"I'm so- I'm so sorry, I- Pete said he- he saw- I'm so sorry."
"Wait," Remus' voice pierces through the panic attack, his hand rubbing Sirius' back gently. "What did Pete say?"
"He- he saw you hang- hanging around Grimmauld Place on that day," Sirius gets out, finally starting to relax into lovely, accepting Remus.
"...I wasn't even in London," Remus says slowly.
Sirius pulls away from the embrace, and the realisation hits them at the same time.
"Peter."

IT'S AU MONTH AT @wolfstarmicrofic HELL YEAH
1st April: Summer Camp AU
(303 words)
"Oh, didn't you hear? The camp is haunted," Sirius says to the full, bustling cabin. It's enough to draw silence from the kids, much to Remus' surprise. Sirius' eyes meet Remus', before flicking in the direction of the light switch.
Ah. Right.
Remus starts moving slowly to the switch, as Sirius turns and keeps talking.
"Years and years ago, when the camp was still Camp Wild Lake, a camper refused to go to sleep after lights out in this very cabin, and went out in the dark. He ran off into the woods, and was never seen again. They say that, when he sees other kids about to make the same mistake as him, he makes sure that they'll never see the light of day again!"
On cue, Remus flicks the lights off, shrouding the boys in darkness, and a good few of them scream. He bites back a chuckle as his eyes adjust to the dark. Sirius is moving closer to the door. He grabs Remus' wrist on the way, sliding until their hands are intertwined. Remus tries to ignore the way it sends a jolt through his core.
"Goodnight, boys," Sirius says once, dramatically, before he and Remus are out the door, letting it shut behind them before Remus lets his laugh out, Sirius pulling him away quickly with a snort of his own.
"There, they won't bother us now," Sirius says with a devilish grin, and Remus arches an eyebrow.
"Huh. Why don't you want them to bother us, Black?" He asks innocently, waiting until Sirius turns to him. "What are you planning on getting up to?"
"Wouldn't you like to know?" Sirius asks with a wink, not missing a beat as he pulls Remus further from the cabin.
Remus really does want to know, and he hopes it includes him.

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is lovebirds!
(165 words.)
James wakes up more refreshed than he had expected. Hangover free again, thank fuck. He glances over at Sirius' bed, expecting the curtains to be closed, him sleeping off the party from the night before.
Much to his surprise, Sirius' bed is empty.
Huh.
With a frown, he slides out of bed, changing quickly before he makes his way out into the common room. As he gets down the stairs, he finds Lily watching the sofa, slightly perplexed.
"Everything alright?" He asks, confused. She just beckons him over silently. He obliges, stopping beside her and following her gaze to the sofa. It immediately answers his questions as to the whereabouts of Sirius.
He's asleep on the sofa. Not only that, but asleep in Remus' arms, which are firmly around his waist, Remus' head resting against Sirius'.
"That can't be comfortable," Lily whispers. "Should we wake them up?"
"Nah, leave the lovebirds be," James says with a grin, nudging Lily slightly. "Let's just go to breakfast."

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is yearn!
(142 words.)
One unexpected factor of dating Sirius is his letter writing.
Yeah, Sirius is effortlessly smart. He passed his OWLs and NEWTs so easily that it's a little scary, but he's made such an effort to distance himself from his family through his behaviour. His vast vocabulary is easy to forget about.
Well, until they're apart for a few weeks, and Remus gets his first letter from his boyfriend. It's all pretty normal, making Remus chuckle in places. Until he gets to the end.
'I yearn for you,
Sirius.'
Just like that, Remus is blushing. It's like his brain short circuits, so thrown by the unorthodox compliment that it almost burrows inside him, sitting beside his heart and warming it. He wants to absorb it, keep the words at the forefront of his mind.
How is he supposed to send anything decent back?

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is smitten!
(521 words.)
"Evans?" Sirius' voice pulls Lily from her revision. She lifts her head, ready to shoot Sirius a glare, only to find him looking hesitant. It takes her by surprise. "Could I, uh... talk to you?" Never once has Sirius come to her for advice. If he needs to talk, he goes to James, sometimes Remus. Not Lily.
Part of her wants to say no and send him to one of his close friends, but she falters. Sirius isn't stupid. He would be going to James or Remus if he could, and he isn't.
"Five minutes," she answers calmly, closing her book. Sirius doesn't hesitate in pulling out the chair opposite Lily.
"Okay, right, uh... it's about Remus," He starts. "I just figured you were the right person to ask, because he spends a lot of time with you, and he... well, uh... do you know if he's- if he... fancies anyone?"
Lily narrows her eyes suspiciously. She needs to be careful here.
"Why? You trying to play matchmaker, or something?" She asks.
"Yeah! Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing!" Sirius says triumphantly, face brightening. "He doesn't really talk about that stuff with us, so I was just curious!" He seems a lot less nervous now, even offering Lily a smile.
The issue is, Lily knows exactly where Remus stands on romance, and she's made a promise never to tell Sirius. Namely, because Remus is absolutely, 100% gone for the man, and he's also entirely convinced that Sirius doesn't feel the same way. If he's really trying to get Remus a date, then she needs to shut it down.
"...no, he doesn't," she answers simply, moving to reopen her book.
"Oh. Okay." If Lily didn't just Remus' judgement, she would say Sirius sounds pretty dejected. Ah, well. It's probably about his matchmaking game being put to a stop. Before he can say anything else, Remus' voice rings out from beside the two of them.
"Hey, Lils, I was wondering if we could- Sirius! Hi!" Sirius' head whips around, and the shift in him is obvious. His cheeks have turned a hearty shade of pink at the sight of Remus, and the expression on his face is one that Lily can only describe as smitten.
Oh, wow.
Maybe Remus' judgement is a little... clouded in this department.
Sirius offers Remus a wave, and Lily watches the two of them, trying to figure out who's going to get their head back together first.
Remus wins, blinking harshly and turning back to Lily.
"Uh... the transfiguration homework, would you want to come to the library and work on it together?" He asks, and Lily nods.
"Yeah, sure. Two seconds." She starts to collect her stuff, shoving it into her bag. Right as she gets up, she turns to Sirius one more time. "My advice, Black? Ask him." Sirius' eyes widen, a realisation hitting him.
"How did you figure it out?"
She rolls her eyes with a smile, standing and starting to walk with Remus.
"It's written all over your face!" She calls behind her shoulder with a grin, before promptly stepping out of the portrait hole with Remus.

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is suitor!
(773 words.)
Sirius stares at his own reflection in the mirror, wishing, for once, that he could switch his emotions off like the rest of his family. He doesn't really want to look at himself in his dress robes. It just reminds him of what he's about to do, the life laid out in front of him, which he really doesn't want to think about. Every time he remembers the suitor at the end of the aisle, the marriage his parents have decided he needs, their desperation to 'fix him', he feels nauseous.
That thought just sends him down a rabbit hole, the ghost of a memory of amber eyes, a slightly crooked smile, and an embrace that felt like home being all he has left. Well, that and the knowledge that the only man he's ever loved probably hates him. Sometimes he wonders what his life could have been if he'd just... run. Gotten away from the hellish life that the Black family have left him with.
"Sirius." Regulus' voice drags him out of his thoughts, turning to face his little brother.
"Oh. Hi." He doesn't mean for his voice to sound so... hollow, so dejected. Still, he does his best to offer Regulus a smile. "How come you're not in your seat? We're starting soon. Mum'll flip her shit."
He expected Regulus to roll his eyes, maybe smile slightly if he's in a decent mood, but his expression doesn't falter. There's a slight furrow in his brow, the only sign that he's concerned.
"Sirius, you can't do this," He says slowly, stepping inside the small room and shutting the door behind him. The words stun Sirius, freezing him for a moment.
"What? Reggie, what d'you mean-"
"You're not getting married today. You shouldn't," He insists, which does nothing but confuse Sirius.
"Reg, I don't really think I have a choice, here. Where's this coming from?"
"...I ran into Remus." The admission sends Sirius' heart into overdrive, a wave of dizziness hitting him. It's like someone has stolen the breath from his lungs, memories attacking him from every angle.
"What?" The word comes out slightly breathless, shock overwhelming him.
"He asked about you. He loves you, Sirius, it was obvious."
"But I- I abandoned-"
"No, you didn't, and he knows you didn't. He was just happy to hear that you were alive. Sirius, you can't keep living like this. We both know it."
Realistically, Sirius knows this. He knows that he won't be able to take it much longer in his family, but he's been able to shove it to the back of his mind. He made it his goal to distract his family from Regulus, and it's been enough to keep him going.
Hearing his little brother telling him he's making a mistake makes everything feel much more real.
"Reg, what are you saying?" He asks carefully.
"I'm saying you need to leave. Today. Now, if you can." Just as Sirius opens his mouth to ask where the fuck he would go, Regulus stops him. "Here," He pulls a scrap of parchment out of the pocket of his dress robes, surging forward and shoving it into Sirius' hand. "James and Remus' addresses are both on here, I got them off Remus. He should know you're coming. You need to go."
"Reggie, I can't-"
"Yes, you can! You have to!" His tone leaves minimal room for argument, but Regulus isn't even going to let him try. "I know why you've stayed as long as you have, and you're a bloody idiot for it. I'll be okay, Sirius."
"Then you can leave with me," He says desperately, reaching out to grasp his brother's hand. Regulus just shakes his head.
"I can't. One of us needs to stay here, and it sure to fuck isn't going to be you. Just... go and find Remus, okay? Please."
Sirius meets his brother's eyes, startled to find that his face is softened, almost pleading with Sirius. He's giving Sirius a way out. One that he's not going to find again, and he's not taking no for an answer.
Remus' face comes full force back to the front of his mind. Vaguely, he wonders if he looks the same. If he's gotten any new scars, if he would still look at Sirius in that same way that made him weak at the knees, that he conjures when he can't sleep, when he needs comfort.
"Go, Sirius. You deserve to be happy," Regulus' voice urges him. It's the one that cracks his resolve. The desperation in his brother's voice is breaking him.
He needs to go.
Remus is waiting for him.

Today's @wolfstarmicrofic prompt is woo!
(265 words.)
"Prongs, I'm running out of moves!" Sirius groans miserably, burying his head into his hands.
"Nah, you just haven't found the right move, yet! C'mon, don't give up so easily! You can still woo him!" Even James' boundless optimism isn't helping him. He glances up disbelievingly.
"Really? I don't know how I can make it any clearer to him," Sirius answers.
"I do," James says with a shrug. "Oi, Moony!" Sirius' heart drops to his stomach, panic hitting him like a brick to the head as Remus glances up from where he's been leaning against the wall outside, chatting to Lily. "How would you fancy a date with Padfoot?"
Sirius is going to kill James.
For a moment, he's convinced that James has just ruined everything. Well, until he realises that Remus is smiling, his lips tugging upwards into an amused grin.
"Well, he has to ask me himself, first," Remus answers casually.
Oh.
Sirius is pretty sure his heart's beating out of his chest as James nudges him, reminding him that he does, in fact, have to approach Remus in order to ask him out. He walks over to Moony in a daze. Remus watches him with a wry smile for a moment, as Sirius tries to conjure up a sentence. To be perfectly honest, he could stand and just watch emotions flit across Remus' face for the rest of time. Still, important matters, he has to do it.
"D'you want to go to Hogsmeade this weekend? On a date?" He asks quietly.
"What took you so long?" Remus asks back with a smile.
