Beer of the (not exactly) night: The Booth Brewing "Kukmin IPA" Seven hours in and these ribs bout ready. A very productive day deserves a reward and this beer is hitting the spot. Brewed in Eureka by transplanted Koreans they do not mess around. Cheers to the holiday weekend folks!

Vinyl of the night: The Fresh & Onlys The debut album from the San Francisco psychedelic rockers is a solid effort that pays homage to many of the sounds and styles that coursed through The City since the 60s. As part of the so called new San Francisco garage rock scene (including Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, Kelly Stoltz etc.) this album only hinted at the high water marks that were to come.

Vinyl of the night: Brazilian Girls "Let's Make Love" I picked this up at their show Friday night and I'm sure glad I did. After a decade between albums the band shows no sign of rust and their unique blend of influences over an edm base is as strong as ever. The title track, "Balla Balla", and "Looking For Love" got the crowd moving and in great spirits.

Beer of the night: Dunloe Brewing "Sunshine Highway" My brother stopped by the brewery in Davis and scored this crowler for me. It's a decent IPA. Light n refreshing but with a bready back end. I'd be interested to see what else they've got to offer.

Vinyl of the night: General Public "...All the Rage" After The Beat closed up shop Dave Wakeling and Ranking Rodger formed General Public with members of a couple other British bands and released what was essentially "Special Beat Service" part II. "Tenderness" is one of the best songs they ever recorded and is one of the few GP songs Dave & co still play to this day.

Beer of the night: Boneyard Beer "Hop Venom" I did some cat sitting for a friend of mine who went to Oregon and was brought back this delicious number from the folks out of Bend. It's a double IPA like mom used to make full of resiny pine and none of that sweetness that often cripples doubles. Smoothness definitely belies the 9% abv. Crowler fill from the brewery in Bend Oregon.

Vinyl of the night: Black Uhuru "Red" You bum right here and you bounce over there sponji reggae. After dancing myself clean the last 2 nights at the TV on the Radio/LCD Soundsystem double bill I need to chill the eff out. Black Uhuru to the rescue. Featuring the classic line up of Michael Rose, Duckie & Puma (their names alone are reggae AF!) and the stellar production of the incomparable Sly and Robbie, this record does not disappoint. They played a show in Berkeley last night as well and if I could clone myself I would have been in two places at once.....

Vinyl of the night: LCD Soundsystem "This is Happening" Getting pumped to see LCD and TV on the Radio the next two nights at the historic Greek Theater in Berkeley. Just a ridiculous double bill and sure to be a hell of a show. I dug the live and/or jam edm bands that were coming out as the 2000s dawned. !!! made party music and Partical could make you shake your ass but LCD came along and added heart n soul to the mix. You besta believe Imma dance myself clean tomorrow....
