elan-notjustgirl:
Elan soaked in everything he was saying, nodding slightly as he did so. She still had questions about it because some of it didn’t make that much sense to her. How come the master got to decide what was worth printing? Although it was nice to hear it wasn’t some vague council but the way it was described made it sound like women were left out of the printing which didn’t seem particularly fair at all. What if someone wanted to get something printed and it wasn’t considered worthwhile? Was it just based on who had the money to pay for it? But the way he had answered her questions told her she might learn more from finding a book on the subject and then asking him some more detailed questions once she had a better general background.
“I can’t think of any right at this moment - or at least, questions that I can make enough sense of to make it worth asking because right now they’re mostly jumbled up in my brain.”
Tumblr media
The old professor smiled at the girl and nodded, “Well, summer is not so long and if you have access to an owl I’m only a letter away. Answering questions is... more or less my profession, as it were.”

“Considering how long you’ve known me and how many of your students you must have seen grow up, I’m not particularly surprised. But thank you, I appreciate it.”
Tumblr media
Myrddin sighed with a smile, “Well, it is true. However not a reason I cannot attempt to make a change. Most of the other professors were once my students, but they’re colleagues now and peers.” He paused to think on it, “However... perhaps I need more than a month to work it out.”

elan-notjustgirl:
Elan watched as his eyes began to swim with the ghosts of his past. She could see how much the memory meant to him, which was terribly nice, but it was a more poetic description than it was practical and she found herself wanting more. “What do you mean by dirty hands? And counted? Who decided what was worth printing? Why did wartime end up with mostly propaganda? Wouldn’t people produce more written content to distract themselves during a time like that?”
Tumblr media
“Dirty hands with ink and grease.” He said, almost instinctually holding up his currently wrinkled fingers, “Counted as in there was less printed so it almost felt as if it was taken more to heart. It cost more than a few cents to print as well, so it also tended to have a lot more measured thoughts.” The old professor hummed, trying to remember her other questions in order, his eyes rolling upward as he retraced the phrases. “The master of the shop did, more often than not, or the man above him. I’m not quite sure. I was terribly young so it certainly wasn’t myself. ahhh... And there was written content to distract ourselves, but perhaps it was the press I was employed at? Mostly propaganda and people voicing opinions or writing pamphlets for social justice and war and all other manner of ideas similar to it.”
The old man took a deep breath and smiled down at the curious girl, “Did that answer everything?” He wondered, but without a hint of sarcasm in his tone. As a lifelong scholar, the discovery of new ideas was certainly one he encouraged.

john-silver-stargazer:
“Mary, Queen o’ Scots!” John yells, whipping around to look at Myrddin. “Professor. Er… I didn’t realize ye were here.” He breathes hard and smooths a hand through his hair. “I’m not lookin’ fer anything. I… er… I am just a real fan of architecture.” He chuckles nervously and runs his hand along a column. A security guard gives John an angry glare.
Myrddin chuckled, holding a withered hand up to soften the mood of his fellow professor. “No worries, I truly didn’t expect to see anyone I was familiar with here either.” He laughed and watched the way Silver was acting. Oddly, that was for sure. “I would have never guessed you were a fan.”

dynamiteprofessorcalhoun:
Everyone hoped that war ended soon and didn’t escalate. Didn’t matter what war, didn’t matter what people, everyone hoped the same thing. And no one hoped it more than the ones fighting it. However, that last sentiment was particularly… coincidental given recent events. Calhoun eyed the old man for a moment, unsure if it was purely coincidence or if Brad had been an asshole and spilled the beans. “Kids…. aren’t really part of the plan,” she said, almost hating the fact that she’d hesitated in saying it.
“Ah...” Myrddin said, nodding, “Is it a matter of not liking them, or something else?” He said, prying but finally done with some of the games. Her hesitation, of course, was a fair reason to question it.

mulanzhou:
“It’s really not too much trouble,” Mulan smiled as she quickly cleaned up the mess.  The shopkeep was a little annoyed but at least Professor Ambrosius and Mulan weren’t being rude about the commotion and were cleaning up the mess on their own.  “But please, let me treat.  It can be thanks for your teachings,” she chuckled.  She spoke quickly with the vendor and paid for the treats, one for herself and one for her professor.  “Oh, well it’s certainly still settling in that I’ve graduated, but I’ll be returning in the fall anyways to assist Coach Hughes with flying classes.  Kinda takes away from the whole ‘graduating and leaving school.’“
Tumblr media
Myrddin had always felt it was polite to refuse a gift once, but at a second time it became rude. Politely he resigned to accepting the gift and gave Mulan a grateful nod as his treat was handed over. “Thank you very much, Miss Zhou.”
“You will be returning? Oh, my... this is wonderful news!” He said with a laugh, “And it’s not a problem. I returned here after a few years, and no matter how often I try to retire I always find myself returning once more to it. It’s not a bad thing, in my book.”

itscinderellie:
She hadn’t meant to interrupt the transaction but she’d gotten ahead of herself. So many weeks of isolation had dulled her ability to read social cues and quite frankly, had her rather craving human interactions of all kind. Especially with those she knew she could trust. When he started to make his way over to her, she met him halfway in a jog. Her instinct was to hug him but she pulled herself back. She hadn’t been alone that long.
“It is!” She exclaimed, her voice quivering just a bit as the emotions overwhelmed her. She hadn’t been able to seek out that many people but the ones she did were always so shocked and relieved to see her, that it was hard not to take on some of that excess of emotion. Still, she blinked back her tears with a sniffle and shook her head. “A…a lot. A lot I probably can’t say right now,” she said, glancing at the very public, very muggle setting they were in currently. “But I’m alright. It’s so good to see you again! What are you doing here?”
Tumblr media
“Ministry secrets, my dear?” He asked, confused a bit as to why she couldn’t say. “My girl, as head of Ravenclaw I’m going to find out eventually to ensure it doesn’t happen again. I’d much rather hear it from you than some stuffy official or the headmistress.” He said, a soft smile spreading across his face. Of course, as she asked what he was doing, the old man took a deep breath, startled by the sudden change, “Ah... I’m visiting someone special. It’s an anniversary of sorts.”

fairladymarian:
“I don’t particularly mind one way or the other. Although I can be patient for the day you see me as a little bit less of a child,” she chuckled.
May found herself relaxing more as her professor talked about the difference in potential wood quality. He had started to ramble a bit on the subject, and it reminded her of how he would be in class sometimes. It didn’t matter that she knew much of what he was talking about, it was fun just to hear how interested he was in the topic. It was rare to find someone outside the broom industry with this same keen interest. Frankly, it was rare to find someone in the industry outside of the research division with that sort of keen interest. But for her father, that had been yet another important aspect of building his company the way he wanted to. So of course, she had learned about it as well, and with all the conversations she had with research, it was something she was fairly intimidate with.
“I would love to read it, it sounds fascinating. It would lead to some really fascinating insights. Most of the wood that we use has come from nurseries that mimic wild forest growth as closely as possible. After all, if you’re riding a Firebolt, you expect something responsive but with enough life to keep things interesting.”
Tumblr media
Myrddin’s face wrinkled with a wide grin as she mentioned the woods, and with a laugh he approvingly nodded, “That’s wonderful! I must say, I’m very proud. Ah--Perhaps it does sound like I still treat you like a child...” He laughed once more at the ridiculousness of his statement, “...but all the same my dear, i think you’re doing splendidly.”

“Ohhhh, Professorrrr,” Toulouse said, almost perfectly imitating a schoolkid. “Well in my opinion, you are fu-” he stopped himself mid-sentence, the voice’s of people who have always told him he cussed too casually played in the back of his mind. “-udging killing it. They must be pretty special. Not just anyone can get roses.”
Tumblr media
Myrddin chuckled at the small teasing, and while he felt a little guilty for omitting just who he was seeing--which is what kept it from sounding morbid--the old man preferred this to someone offering condolences. “It’s alright. We aren’t in class, so I don’t mind a bit of cursing. Just... knowing when to say them and when not to is a good thing.” he said with a grin, “And yes, quite special indeed. Alas, it is significantly warmer this year in London than last year. I believe I’ve made a wardrobe error.”
“Perhaps this is prying, but do you have someone important in your life?” He said, coming to an idea.

Elan grinned in shared amusement. “Theoretically you would have been younger. But since I haven’t seen any pictures of you from back then you ended up looking the way you are right now.” But as he continued to talk, she tilted her head curiously up at him. “You worked at a printing press? Really? What was that like?”
Tumblr media
Myrddin chuckled at the thought and nodded his head, “So long as you gave me one of those striped aprons, I think it’s a fine image. And probably accurate to when I attempt to use a kitchen.” He said, another laugh and a wink at the idea.
Of course, memory took hold and she mentioned the printing press and the old man’s eyes swam with memories, “Ohhh... well... A lot of work. A lot of dirty hands my mother would fret over. ahhh... the printed word was a bit more... counted back then, I think? It took a lot more time to arrange things and print them than it does now. So you had to ensure that what you were printing was truly good and worthy of the ink. Especially during the wars, but those were mostly propaganda.”

oh-porcupines:
“Well, they’re already taking care of horses and a dog, so maybe they don’t want to add more to their work load,” Bobby smiled and shrugged. His grandparents were Muggles, so all of their work had to be done with physical labor. At least it kept them in good health, though. “So are you just out and about today?”
Tumblr media
“My, my! Horses and a dog? You must have had quite the pets growing up.” Myrddin chuckled softly before the question about what he was about today came up. His face dropped a small bit, but continued to smile. “I suppose you could say I’m out to see someone very special to me. I take the trip every year into London.”

fairladymarian:
“Very well then Myrddin. Then I hope you’ll do the honor of calling me May.” The name still felt strange on her tongue. But she was sure with enough time she could find a way to become a little bit more comfortable with the experience. She’d become comfortable with more than enough strange things over the past years.
“Of course. If you don’t check on the quality personally, how can you be sure it stays up to standard? It makes for longer days, but with a company like Firebolt, every minute put into it is worth it.” May’s grin deepened slightly. “I’m not sure I should be giving away any trade secrets. Competition is everywhere after all. But I suppose I can tell you that I have a line on a very nice wood supply of Black Walnut from Minnesota.”
Tumblr media
Myrddin gave a nod, “Mind if I put a miss in front of it, Miss May? If not, bear with me a bit while I break the habit.”
As she mentioned the woods and the work ethic, the ancient man smiled winningly at her. “That is true, and I’m sure your customers appreciate you for it. Them, and the people who work for you as well. It goes a long way to see one’s employer engaged in the day-to-day.” Her tight-lipped nature on the materials had him chuckling, “Ah, yes. Pardon, I’ve been out of the game for quite some time. However, Black Walnut, you say? That is quite interesting. Especially from an American company, hm? How was their tree layout? It doesn’t seem important, entirely, but depending on the type of wood the layout of the trees themselves can sometimes play a minor part in the broom’s temperament. Why nobody ever makes brooms from wild forest trees unless they want quite a ride on their hands. Similarly, the way that they’re controlled and grown can make them more easily managed, but also... complacent.”
The old wizard grinned, “I read a paper published by an old friend many years ago on the subject. Had to mostly do with the way trees communicate in the wild, but those controlled and maintained by people do not. The less nature they’re exposed to, the more they rely on people and the less they need to communicate to the ‘herd’ or rest of the forest. I recall he attempted some experiments with woods, but I don’t quite remember the results. If you wish to borrow it, I believe I can scrounge it up in my library.”

elan-notjustgirl:
“Hm. That does make a lot of sense.” She had an ideal temperature for most food and drink she had, but since she rarely ate things that actually were at the ideal temperature, she could make almost anything last the necessary length of time. She could most likely sneak out enough money for a single drink, and corner tables weren’t a problem at all. “For a moment when you said ‘working at the pubs’ I imagined you bustling around in an apron and serving drinks. It is quite the sight I assure you.”
Tumblr media
While he usually measured his words quite carefully, Myrddin found the mix-up extremely amusing and burst out with a hearty cackle. “Oh dear! Was I the same age, or a younger version?” He said, amused. “Alas, I never worked as a waiter. I spent quite some time in a printing press when they were still about and new, but never did I bust tables... unless it was at a family gathering.” He added with a cheeky wink. “What would you plan to do there? People watch, or writing, or reading?”

john-silver-stargazer:
John awkwardly waddled his way around tourists, making sure nobody bumped into any of his hastily concealed prosthetics. He grumbled under his breath as he scanned the walls and stained glass for something–anything– that would indicate that Slytherin had left his incredible treasure here.
However, his laser-eyed focus and unbroken string of curses was causing people look at him strangely and give him a wide berth. So focused was he on his mission that he barely took note of the people around him.
The profanity was expected anytime one came into contact with Mr. John Silver, though of course as the older professor approached him something odd stood out. It was as if he were looking for something and having trouble finding it.
“Help you find what you’re looking for?” He said, drawing nearer with a devious grin on his old wrinkled face.

what-makes-the-world-go-round:
Arthur knew better than to argue with the professor and caved easily. It still didn’t quite feel right, letting someone else take care of him in any capacity, but he was grateful all the same. It was, a nice change. “Well, I suppose I shouldn’t argue with my elders right?” He smirked a little and perused the menu. In the end he ordered went with a scoop of coffee ice cream on a cone. Simple and a bit redundant since he worked at a coffee shop, but he wasn’t really one to switch things up. He glanced at his teacher curiously. “What about you professor? What strikes your fancy today?”
Tumblr media
Myrddin put on a fake serious face, sticking his lower lip out and scrunching up his brows, “No, you certainly must not.” he declared, turning and eyeing the scoops. “hm... I happened to select a Mint Chocolate Chip. A lifelong favorite.” he hummed, watching as the different flavors were scooped up and handed over to them. This time he had managed to put the money down for both before slowly making his way for others who wished to order.

itscinderellie:
Cindy had been making a lot of trips into London lately. Not only because it was amazing and she literally could not get enough of seeing the muggle city, but because she often had to make trips to the Ministry. To work on Marcus’s case, to work on Pip’s, to square away her own, along with all other sorts of legal procedures she needed to get done. Getting her kneazle ownership certification for one thing. Potentially changing her last name for another.
It wasn’t often that she ran into people that she knew from Hogwarts. Why would she, after all? It was a muggle city after all. So when she saw what looked to be a familiar figure, she practically did a double take, stopping in her tracks. It was only when she overheard his familiar voice that her chest swelled and she called out, “Professor!!” as she waved her hand high above her head. She didn’t know who the Ministry had told about her return but whether or not Ambrosius knew that his missing student had been returned safely, she was just more than happy to see him again and let him know.
Tumblr media
Myrddin Ambrosius bent low, slowly reaching out and grasping his wallet from the ground when he heard a familiar voice. One he hadn’t expected to hear again, for it was so rare that a child missing for over two days would ever be returned. His wrinkled face lifted up as he slowly stretched his knees back to standing with a pop in one of them. “Cinderella?” He questioned, completely disregarding the poor ice cream clerk as the young girl bounced and waved.
“Ah yes. Sorry.” He turned and quickly paid, not daring to take his eyes from the young girl for too long, lest she disappear once more. However, as soon as he got his treat his old feet shuffed off toward her with as much speed as a 110 year old could. “Miss Tremaine, is that truly you? What happened, child?!”

“You’re welcome Professor. Should I still call you that?” May asked with a grin, although the question itself was serious. Technically, as a graduate he wasn’t her professor anymore, but it was hard to think of him any other way. it seemed simpler to check what he wanted. “Oh, I just had an off sight meeting looking at some new broom woods. It went well so I think we’ll have a good new supplier for the next year.”
Tumblr media
Myrddin laughed at the question, shaking his head at her, “Oh no, you don’t have to. Just Myrddin does quite well for me for those of my students to move out into the wide world to become adults. And Mr. Ambrosius was my father, I rather think the title has always been his and never quite mine.”
His ears perked at the mention of broom woods, and a glimmer of interest passed over his features. “Oh? It’s nice to know even at the top you take the time to check on such things personally. Mind if I ask what they will be? Though it might be little-known, back before I had decided to serve my country or become a professor I had been employed as an enchanter for a broom company. I’m quite familiar with the process and what materials take best to which spells... or... well used to be familiar with.” he chuckled, “I dare say some of it has changed over the years.”
