Twitter heard it first, but i'll copy and paste it here anyway...
nah im sorry, i can't take any meta regarding Dumbledore and Harry — the way they see each other and whatever relationship they might share — to be complete if it seems to curiously peter out before addressing King's Cross...
like, The Prince's Tale and King's Cross are THE culminating chapters for some of the most important arcs of the series, which necessarily includes Harry's relationship with Snape and Dumbledore respectively. It's bizarre to leave them out of any serious meta on either topic
Like don't get me wrong, I think it's v fun to consider how Harry's almost allergic reaction to most authority manifests in his relationship to Dumbledore. But the way Harry's inherent distrust and independence clash against Dumbledore's authority is very uh... parent-child coded
The doubts, the rage, the secrets, the understanding that the parent is human and fallible while still being firmly kept on a pedestal.... DH is the book where Harry finally Grows Up, i.e. lets Dumbledore down from that pedestal and sees him as a real person

“average person eats 3 spiders a year” factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in cave & eats over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

rodolphus lestrange/percy weasley mature | major character death read the latest chapter here read from the beginning here
chapter four
the minister’s office is as it always is: sleek and spotless, cleaned of scrimgeour’s detritus each night by a team of housekeepers. the vast ebony desk is neat, a pile of papers stacked in the in-tray, dove-grey quills laid out in a precise line on the blotter. the fake windows play a summer shower - rain flashing against a swirling grey-and-gold sky. the tiled floor is polished. the fanged geranium on top of one of the filing cabinets is stirring listlessly.
the only things which are out of place in this familiar picture are, firstly, the fact that the minister’s severed head - congealed blood leaking from it - is lying on a silver platter which floats, suspended, in midair, and, secondly, the fact that a group of men - who should not be standing in formation behind the minister’s desk looking at the minister’s severed head - are standing in formation behind the minister’s desk looking at the minister’s severed head.
the government falls to lord voldemort, and percy meets a man who will change his life for the first time.

(for the purposes of this poll, there is no monkey's paw situation: the chore you pick stays the same level of difficulty/grossness/etc. as it normally is for you, and you only have to do it as often as you want to. the chores you don't pick are magically done for you exactly the way you'd want them to be, just with zero effort on your part.)

I have a question for the fanfic writers among you: How do you treat your work in progress when a very similar story is put out there? Do you go on writing - in the spirit that everything is unique in its own way - or do you abandon the piece - in the spirit of preventing 'superfluous' contributions?
Let's add a further wrench into the process by saying the recently published work by another author, so similar to your own, seems so much better written than your own (granted we are always our own worst critics). Where do you go with that?
Maybe this is a question for readers, too. Do you mind reading similar works/story lines?

He is fighting a war. Just got his arms back. Has been fighting for his life so intensely that even we as the audience are unaware of the passage of time. And still has time to fanboy.

I know I don't shut up about this but frankly not enough people are angry about the 5-day/40 hour workweek (and I am AWARE a lot of people work even more than that). I feel like a lot more people should be absolutely furious that we only really have two days a week and some occasional hours in the evening to socialise, run errands, do chores, or relax.
It's no wonder so many people are profoundly lonely and disconnected from their communities when maintaining a social life in what little free time we have is incredibly difficult. If you have kids, a second job, a very long commute, or other responsibilities, it's nearly impossible.
We literally aren't meant to live like this and I'll never stop being shocked how many people just take it as the natural state of things and don't want to throw a brick through a billionaire's window every time they think of it.

I must not mock Gen Alpha. Mocking Gen Alpha is the mind killer. Mocking Gen Alpha is the little-death that brings total generational solidarity obliteration. I will engage with Gen Alpha lovingly. I will permit them to be cringe. And when they grow up I will turn my eye to their accomplishments. Where mocking has gone there will be nothing. Only generational solidarity remains
