Well, well, well. It's 49 days after the last 'Splosive Steam Ship. And Pentecost is just around the corner, that holiday that's defined by taking place 50 days after the last big incident. Coincidence? I think not.

And yes, I know that 49 does not equal 50. But had I the chance to make a temporal distance of 7 * 7 days, I'd also allow for some error margin.

So a while back, I asked the boss to register and put up ‘Welcome here’ stickers at the clinic.

They’re roughly palm-sized stickers with a rainbow heart in a map icon. They’re obvious but don’t take up that much space and don’t interfere with anybody’s day.

One sits on the reception desk, and one is stuck on the front door. They’re a small gesture that just explicitly states the LGBTQ+ community is, literally, welcome here.

It’s very unobtrusive, and (most) people haven’t mentioned it at all, but the observable results have been:

More Clients specifically adding their same sex partner as another owner on the account.

Some clients that I’ve known for a decade or more actually being comfortable enough to reveal they have a partner in conversation.

More same sex couples calling each other ‘darling’ in front of other people.

A few ‘Mx’ titles on client files.

I want to emphasise that it is a tiny gesture, but it increases the comfort level slightly for quite a lot of people, so I’d recommend it if your workplace can, even if you don’t think it’s relevant.

The only person who has had anything vaguely negative to say has been a notorious problem client, who ‘didn’t see the point’. But obviously the stickers are not for him.

Kind of hilarious to me how poorly the title "Mob Psycho 100" localized to English-speaking areas. To someone whose first language is English, it scans as:

Mob (Yakuza, Mafia)

Psycho (violent person with "crazy" behaviors)

Thus: a particularly violent member of organized crime.

But in Japanese it scans as:

Mob (background characters in crowd scenes in manga or anime)

Psycho (short for psychic)

Thus: a psychic who looks/acts like someone you'd never pick out of a crowd scene in a comic.

it’s insane to me that people are painting the protestors at columbia and yale as “anti-war.” in fact they are very much pro-war! they have cheered for iranian missiles and hamas rockets, shouted “october 7th will be every day” and “burn tel aviv to the ground.” they don’t want the war to end, they just want the side they support to succeed in killing more jews. absent that, they themselves are happy to harass and physically assault local jews that they can get their hands on.

On Twitter there are currently a lot of Christians and Muslims getting really angry about ways that Jews work around restrictions on work during Shabbat, and, like, honestly I do not understand why they care?
