Remember “Saturday Morning Hang Zone with Lincoln Loud”? Two years ago, Nickelodeon capitalized on the newfound success it had with The Loud House when the series was halfway through its second season by having a Saturday morning block hosted by Lincoln. In addition to TLH, there was also SpongeBob, ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks and Bunsen Is a Beast; and some of those series also ran new episodes during the block. Shortly thereafter, Nickelodeon re-branded the block as “Do the New” – which really isn’t a good name as “Hang Zone” was. “Hang Zone” delivered some really decent ratings for Nickelodeon. What was one of the best decisions ever made by the network in recent years got scrapped way too soon, ‘cuz it’s Nick after all. :) It was a lot of fun while it lasted.

This is a redraw of Bunsen Is a Beast’s Amanda as Helga Pataki (Amanda’s design does remind me of Helga’s) from an earlier version back in February 2017! It was also my first drawing of Amanda in any form, and this one is a HUGE improvement from the previous version. My drawing has drastically changed since then – it was pretty much rusty as I had started to draw regularly again after a years-long hiatus. I also think Amanda could do without her red eyeliner – I started drawing her without it recently, and she looks much better in my view. What do you think? :)

I’ve been so late to the party about the controversies surrounding Butch Hartman, so here’s my long overdue thoughts on them...
Well, I was never a fan of Butch, although I have heard of him though the shows he had worked on at Cartoon Network I have watched, and I also watched The Fairly OddParents many years ago when it was in its prime. (I may or may not have watched Danny Phantom as I can’t remember, but I’ve recently purchased the complete series DVD set which I will watch when I have the chance to do so. I haven’t seen T.U.F.F. Puppy.) He seemed to be a nice guy, but in the months since he left Nickelodeon it appears he had shown his true colors.
I have known for a long time that he’s Christian, but what we didn’t know -- it appears -- that Butch is pretty much on the conservative side, which it frowns upon the LGBT community a lot (which could explain why he refused to answer any LGBT-related questions from his fans and has also been accused of being insensitive towards the LGBT community). Even though he doesn’t talk about politics, at least on social media, his Twitter account shows that he follows many conservative commentators -- many of whom have a history of saying bigoted stuff -- even Donald Trump. And to top it all, Butch has said or did some dumb stuff: He criticized those who gave them constructive criticism, thanked himself and God for his success while leaving his staff unrecognized (by account of a former colleague of his) and being self-centered, and posting a very tone deaf tweet about the 9/11 attacks, among others.
I do want to point out that I don’t share Butch’s politics or his beliefs. And I know deep down that anybody who have worked on his shows necessarily don’t share his, either. I still have to wonder what’s going through the minds of the people who have worked with Butch in the past.
I also have to wonder if there’s more to Butch’s reasons from leaving Nickelodeon. I have watched the video of him at a church announcing his Oaxis streaming service, which he spent some time railing against Hollywood in a similar way many conservatives railed against the mainstream entertainment industry. It’s also likely (possibly many people would feel the same way, too) that Butch may have become disillusioned with Nickelodeon’s animation division’s attempts for its workplace to become more diverse and it even became active in celebrating Pride Month in recent years, as well as introducing LGBT characters and collaborating with GLAAD. (I think it’s worth noting that Maddie Taylor, who was a voice acting regular in Butch’s shows including the voice of Sparky on The Fairly OddParents, recently came out as transgender; she also has minor roles on The Loud House.)
That’s just my guess. But as long as Butch refuses to directly address the things he have done since he left Nickelodeon and accusations of not supporting LGBT, we will never know. On the other hand, I still like Bunsen even though I don’t agree with Butch’s actions, but I do feel sorry for the people who worked with him and hearing the stuff he has said.

I'm still sad this show was cancelled after 1 season. Sure, it was not the best at the start but the producers were improving after some episodes. Glad I found this Tumblr to see that I was not the only one supporting Bunsen :)
I’m really sorry I took WAY too long (more than a month!) to respond…
I do agree. Bunsen was showing signs of improvement even though there are some enjoyable episodes in the lone season’s first half. While I still like it, there’s also the controversies surrounding Butch Hartman since he left Nickelodeon. But that’s another post which I will address. Overall, Bunsen was fun. And it has gorgeous episode title cards, too!
There are a few others here on Tumblr who also like the series!
