I got another show! It’s going up in October/November 2019 and I am so excited to be a co-directing it with one of my best friends, Christa. She saved me from having to give it up due to a schedule issue. So, without further ado, here’s to my next show:

It finally happened

My auditions were caught in a hitch, initially, but ended up producing some amazing talent. I am so pleased to have met new persons to theater in general, new persons to my little blackbox theater, and (what I call) classic talent–those persons who are veterans to the show and/or the theater. Flexibility

Flexibility isn’t just about stretching and preparing for an audition, rehearsal, or show. It can be about adjusting for the weather, taking feedback well (and rolling with it), and including new ideas freely and without guff. Sometimes you have to roll with the punches, other times you have to dole out the punches; such is life, and such is theater life.

Rules for auditions

For directors:

Is it really about characteristics? Is their nose right? (This was an arbitrary physical characteristic I pulled out of my head) Is this character mentioned to be a blonde? And does it make sense to buy a wig or cast someone with naturally blonde hair?

What about their capability to handle and receive notes? It can be about how someone acts and reacts versus how they look, and…

Today, I simultaneously completed and set a goal. Today, I finished a half marathon at 3:47. Today, I set a goal to finish my next half marathon at 3:40. 7 minutes might not seem like a lot, but in Florida heat—that 7 minutes can mean meeting a goal of passing out and returning to a med clinic. I am excited it’s over. I am excited for April. What have I learned?

Mostly from rereading this blog, and reviewing a majority of my diatribes, is how much introspection I’ve done in preparation. When I talk about Forum, or preparing for it, I talk with such passion that even I am taken aback by it. I am flat out shocked. I think that I am, and have been, ready for some time.

This year I set a personal goal to read 100 books. I am eager and ready to read a book that isn’t school related. However, I do have many books regarding project management on my docket. I didn’t think I would consider a book on directing–frankly, I didn’t even know there would be books for directors.
