The Voice of a Leader (1/3)
Title: The Voice of a Leader
Word Count: 2811
Summary: Namjoon works through feeling like shit until he can’t any more.
Sickie: Namjoon
Caretakers: OT7
A/N: Written for this request. 0% proofread because my eyes are tired.
Namjoon has been talking a lot today.
He can always tell, because he starts to lose his voice, but today it seems far worse than usual– his throat is all scratchy and dry and every time he swallows he’s painfully reminded that he’s been in back-to-back meetings the entire day.
He’s always been a talker, and in his position, it kind of comes with the territory. He’s the voice of the group, after all, and that almost always means literally. Most days he doesn’t mind it, or even notice it, but then there are days like this when he gets home and he just wants to keep his mouth shut and get lost in a good book and not talk to a single person for the rest of the night. Namjoon’s voice is tired, and he’s tired, so tired he could sleep right now even though Seokjin has already announced dinner will be ready in an hour, and the fact that he had skipped out on lunch is the only reason he’ll be at the dinner table in one hour sharp.
He’s in the kitchen making himself a cup of tea after Seokjin goes to tell the others, mindlessly dunking the tea bag in and out of the mug, when a hand on his shoulder scares the shit out of him.
“Aish– ahh, Jungkook! You startled me!”
“Sorry, hyung! I said your name like three times.” Jungkook peers at him with shining, curious eyes. “You okay?”
Namjoon rubs at the base of his throat and nods. “Yeah, Koo,” he responds. “Just tired.”
He takes a sip of the tea and flinches when it burns his tongue, and Jungkook nearly flinches along with him, his expression immediately falling into a sad-looking frown.
Jungkook sets what’s he’s holding down on the counter and hurries over to the drawer to grab a spoon, then goes to the freezer, opening the door and scooping out two ice cubes from the ice maker. He carries them back over to Namjoon and carefully lets them both slide off the spoon and into the steaming mug, making sure not to let them splash any of the tea over the sides.
“There,” Jungkook says once he’s done. “Two ice cubes make it the perfect temperature to drink.”
Namjoon watches the ice cubes melt, and then lifts the cup back to his lips and takes a tentative sip. It feels heavenly on his throat, and it doesn’t burn him this time.
“Thanks, Koo. It’s perfect.” His voice is sounding hoarse now, and he clears his throat. “Want me to make you some tea too?”
Jungkook rolls his eyes and grins at him. “You know I don’t like hot drinks, hyung.” He grabs his water bottle from where he had set it down on the counter and lifts it up, patting it proudly. “Just gonna get myself some iced water.”
Namjoon smiles fondly and watches Jungkook carry his massive 64-oz. container that he calls a water bottle over to the freezer, filling it up with ice– so much ice. Too much ice, honestly. Namjoon takes another sip of his tea and shivers just watching him, a shudder running down his entire spine. Jungkook notices– he notices everything, always watching every step Namjoon takes– but he doesn’t say a word, simply lugs his tumbler out of the kitchen with him after topping it off with water, pausing only briefly to pat Namjoon’s shoulder as he passes by.
*
That evening after dinner, when Namjoon is in bed reading, he’s hit with how shitty he feels.
It seems so sudden– he’s far more tired than he should be, and he has a headache coming on that’s only adding to the weird, sore throat that he’s got going on from talking all day. He keeps having to clear his throat, and it’s becoming irritating enough that he closes his book and tosses it onto the nightstand, giving up on trying to read.
He slides down in his bed and pulls his comforter up to his chin, crossing his arms and clearing his throat for what feels like the hundredth time today.
There’s a soft knock at the door, and then it opens and Taehyung peeks inside.
“Hi, hyung. Can I come in?” Taehyung asks, not waiting for the answer before he comes in and crawls into Namjoon’s bed next to him. He’s in pajamas, hair damp from his apparently recent shower, looking sleepy and pink-skinned.
“Oh.” Namjoon takes a deep breath through his nose. “What do you need, Tae?”
Taehyung tucks himself against Namjoon’s side. “I have a question about a song.”
“It couldn’t wait until tomorrow?” Namjoon asks, frowning down at the younger man in irritation.
Taehyung shakes his head and drapes an arm over Namjoon’s waist. For a moment, he’s quiet, and Namjoon glances down to see that Taehyung’s eyes are closed.
“Taehyungie?” he asks, shaking him gently.
Taehyung opens his eyes and blinks up at him. “Sorry, hyung. You’re so comfy.”
“You’re working on a song?”
Taehyung nods against him. “Mmhm. I’m working on a song.”
After that, he doesn’t say anything further, and Namjoon finds himself losing patience very quickly. Normally, he’d take any chance he can get for cuddles, especially from Taehyung who’s always so warm and clingy and cute, but tonight he feels tense and irritated and his head is really, really starting to hurt.
“Tae,” he says sharply, causing his throat to twinge, and Taehyung gasps like he’s been startled.
“Huh?” Taehyung lifts his head. “What, hyung?”
“What, hyung– what do you mean, what? You came in here with a question. What’s your question?”
Taehyung fixes him with a look that reminds Namjoon so much of Yoongi it’s frightening. The two of them have definitely been spending too much time together.
“You seem kinda grumpy, hyung,” Taehyung says. “Are you okay?”
Namjoon closes his eyes. He takes a few deep breaths. He clears his throat and prepares to ask Taehyung to leave so he can sleep.
“Oh, hyung,” Taehyung says before he can. “I almost forgot to tell you. I started this new game with Jiminie today that I think you would really enjoy. It’s set in–”
“Taehyung,” Namjoon interrupts. “I was actually just about to go to bed.”
Nodding easily, Taehyung’s hand comes up to pat him on the chest. “‘Kay, hyung.”
But instead of leaving, Taehyung simply rolls over and turns Namjoon’s lamp off, and then scoots back over until his warm body is tucked against his side, curling up with his head on Namjoon’s chest.
“Oh.” Namjoon blinks in the darkness. As his eyes adjust, he hears Taehyung yawn. “Uh. Okay.”
“Comfy,” Taehyung murmurs. He sounds half-asleep already, and he yawns again, shifting and nosing his way up until his face is tucked in the crook of Namjoon’s neck.
Instantly, all of the irritation drains out of Namjoon. He wraps his arm around Taehyung and sighs. His head still hurts and his throat still feels weird but he just doesn’t have the heart to make Taehyung leave now. It isn’t long before Taehyung’s breathing evens out, and Namjoon closes his eyes and feels himself matching his slow, even breaths.
The last thing he’s thinking about before he falls asleep is how thirsty he is and how badly he needs a drink of water.
*
When Namjoon wakes up, it’s 6 a.m. and there’s a third body in his bed.
It’s Jimin. He knows without even really looking, but he can tell by the way he and Taehyung are wrapped around each other, taking up more than half of his bed in a tangle of limbs. He’s not surprised that Jimin gravitated towards his soulmate in the middle of the night, as he often does.
He is surprised, though, that he didn’t hear Jimin come into his room, nor did he feel him get into his bed at any point. It makes him feel nervous, and a little upset that he wasn’t more aware– he feels like he should be more alert as the leader of the group. What if there had been an intruder? Would he really sleep through it just like that?
Suddenly, his chest feels too tight. Anxiety swirls in his gut and the urge to cry overwhelms him so suddenly that he stumbles out of bed and nearly runs to the bathroom before Jimin or Taehyung can wake up.
As he gets ready for work, he feels somehow even shittier than the night before, and he grumbles to himself the entire time he showers and dresses, groggy and cranky. Surely, if he had gotten his bed to himself last night, he would have had a proper, full night’s rest and he wouldn’t be feeling so poorly. He doesn’t have time to feel like shit, though, so he pushes through and gets himself ready and makes it to work ten minutes early like usual, largely ignoring whatever it is that has him feeling so bad both physically and mentally.
It’s not really a conscious decision, but he goes throughout his entire day without responding to a single text in the group thread. It’s only when he’s ready to head home that he reluctantly opens his phone and sees all of the messages, the ones near the end full of questions and poorly disguised worry directed at him.
did u forget ur phone today hyung?
hello??? earth to namjoonie-hyungieeee
We missed you at lunch, Joonie. Where are you hiding today?
he’s forgotten all about us. maybe he doesn’t love us anymore :(
Namjoon-hyung did you cancel the meeting at 4 on purpose?
Sure, he’s usually more responsive in the group thread, and he’s always ready with answers for all of their questions, but surely they can get along just fine for one single day without him?
There’s a separate text from Yoongi, too, asking him if he’s doing okay. Namjoon only glances briefly at it before pocketing his phone, shoving it away like it will make the question disappear.
He grits his teeth and stares at his closed computer for about a minute, and then stands and takes his coat back off, hanging it up on the hook by the door before going back to his desk. His head is pounding, but somehow the thought of going home right now and facing everyone seems worse than finishing up a bit more work here where he can be by himself.
Opening his computer, Namjoon pinches the bridge of his nose and scratches out a to-do list of tasks for himself despite the fact that his eyes are burning and his throat is aching so much that it hurts every time he swallows.
*
Namjoon stays at work for two more hours after that.
When he gets home, he sees he’s the last one to arrive. He catches a glimpse of himself in the hallway mirror and freezes, mouth falling open at his own appearance. There are dark circles under his eyes, his face is flushed, his hair is a mess– but beyond all, he looks tired.
He makes his way into the kitchen, where he grabs a glass and fills it with water. He chugs it down in seconds and then refills it, clearing his throat several times as he watches the water fill the glass.
There are footsteps behind him as the others come in– he glances over his shoulder and sees six pairs of eyes fixed on him.
“Hey,” he says, immediately regretting it when he hears how horrible his voice sounds. He really needs to rest it every once in a while. He probably talked too much again today– but even as he thinks it, he remembers he’s been alone for almost the entire day and didn’t talk much at all.
Namjoon doesn’t miss the worry that clouds everyone’s expressions, and he can see them exchanging looks with one another, but he decides to ignore it and turns back to the sink, filling his glass with water for a third time.
“I’m hungry,” Jungkook announces, rubbing his stomach and pouting until they all chuckle at him.
“Okay, Jungkookie.” Hoseok wraps himself around the youngest’s back. “What do you want for dinner tonight?”
“What do you want for dinner, hyung?” Jungkook asks, turning to Namjoon.
The thought of eating makes Namjoon feel almost nauseous, so he shakes his head. “I’m not really hungry,” he answers. “You guys eat without me. I’m going to go take a shower.”
He turns and leaves without another word, but he can hear them all chattering quietly as soon as he steps out of the kitchen.
The bathroom feels too cold. Namjoon turns the water on as hot as it will go, because he’s suddenly shivering, and when he takes his clothes off there are goosebumps all over his skin. He gets into the shower quickly and nearly moans out loud at how heavenly the hot water feels as it pours over him.
Two separate times he’s hit by a strange feeling that’s almost like dizziness, and the second occurrence is accompanied with a feeling of sudden, intense nausea that makes him worry he might actually puke for a second. It passes just as quickly as it comes, though, and he hurries to finish his shower before it can happen again.
As soon as he turns off the water, his nose is running, and he swipes a hand underneath it to stop it from dripping, annoyed at the pressure he can feel in his sinuses that he assumes is from the change in temperature– he’s cold again now that the hot water is turned off.
He dries off, thankful his hair is on the shorter side so it doesn’t take too long to dry, and then wraps a towel around his waist.
Just as he’s about to leave the bathroom, there’s a knock on the door and he opens it to see Seokjin standing there.
“Hey, Joonie. Just wanted to see if you wanted to place an order. We decided to order takeout from the Thai place a couple of blocks over.
Namjoon shakes his head. “Don’t order anything for me. I’ll eat later. I had a late lunch today.”
It isn’t until he tells the lie that he realizes he actually didn’t have any lunch, for the second day in a row. As if reminded, his stomach makes a gurgling sound, almost like he’s hungry except for the fact that the thought of food makes saliva pool in his mouth uncomfortably.
Seokjin frowns, looking almost disappointed. “Okay.”
Namjoon steps out of the bathroom, lightly pushing past Seokjin and shuffling towards his room, but as soon as he leaves the steamy bathroom he has to stop to sneeze abruptly. The sneeze makes the pounding in his head worsen and he has to blink away the spots in his vision.
“Joon?” Seokjin’s hand is on his bare back. “Are you planning on joining us for movie night?” He asks as Namjoon recovers.
Namjoon sniffs sharply and blinks at Seokjin. He still has that goddamn frown on his face.
“Movie night?”
“It’s Friday,” Seokjin explains, his brows furrowing.
Namjoon nods, trying to figure out how it’s Friday already– he’s pretty sure he had spent the entire day thinking it was a Tuesday. A sense of relief washes over him when he realizes that means he doesn’t have to work tomorrow.
“We’re starting the movie in fifteen minutes,” Seokjin tells him. “If you don’t join us, at least take some cold medicine before you go to sleep,” he says, and then he goes back out to the living room.
Namjoon frowns. Cold medicine? Oh– just because he sneezed once, Seokjin must think he’s sick or something. His hyung is such a worrier, almost more so than Yoongi sometimes.
It’s not like he’s actually sick, though. He just has a bad headache, and he’d had that strange moment of dizziness and nausea while he was in the shower, but besides that and his nose being a bit runny it’s not like he’s feeling that bad. Mostly just tired. And his throat still hurts, still feels like he’s screamed for an entire day and used up every last bit of his voice, almost sore like when he has a cold–
Oh.
Oh.
There’s no way he’s sick sick. There’s no way he actually has a cold. First of all, he doesn’t have time to be sick, but on top of that he doesn’t feel like he has a cold so that can’t be it. Once he gets some sleep tonight he’ll be totally fine.
Now determined to show Seokjin and the others that he’s completely fine, he dresses in a pair of soft sweatpants and a hoodie, grabs a pair of socks, and stops back by the bathroom for some painkillers for his not-cold-related headache before heading out to the living room for movie night.

your allergy fics are so good! would you be able to write one with jungkook? any caretaker, with jungkook coming into contact with something he's terribly allergic to but he wants to enjoy (like a bouquet of flowers or a cute kitten idk) and it sets him off sneezing a ton, with a super itchy nose. thank you!
I have plenty of mostly finished projects, but I can't bring myself to post them, so I keep working on new ones, and after months, I finally made one I like!
"Jaykay...Jungkook-ah.. wake up.. we're landing.." Hoseok shakes the mankae when his gentle approach doesn't work. "Jaykay your face is so puffy.." Hoseok smiles fondly, grabbing Jungkook's face and smooshing his face in between his fingers.
Jungkook moans in complaint, his eyes fluttering open to look at Hoseok. "Hyung..what time is it?" he grabs Hoseok's wrist to get him to stop attacking his cheeks, rubbing at his eyes. "It's morning still?"
"It is..Good morning Junggukkie." Hoseok smiles, feeling pride in successfully getting him to start moving. "It's because of the time difference. Remember?"
Jungkook studies his surroundings perplexed before his eyes widen with recognition when the sleep that fogged his memory dissipates, replaced with excitement. "Oh! I know! We're filming a music video!I'm so excited! We're going to be filming by a real waterfall and going to a garden with hundreds of different flowers and we're going to work with birds!" The memory of the meeting floods over him.
"We're going to get amazing photos. I wonder if we'll get to see a real toucan." Taehyung adds in his own excitement, leaning forward to talk to Jungkook.
"Toucan? Do you really think we can see a real one? I've seen videos of them and they don't look real." Hoseok adds in.
"Everyone, please return to your seats and buckle up." The boys hear the announcement, gathering up their things.
"Namjoon-ah do you have everything?" Yoongi asks, placing his tablet into his bag.
"Of course. You gifted me a holder for my passport after that incident in japan.." Namjoon pulls out the passport that was tucked into his shirt.
"That's because we almost couldn't perform.. you're lucky that man found it in the bathroom for you.. What about your headphones?"
Namjoon opens his airpod case, ears reddening when he sees there's only one inside, feeling around his seat until he finds it. "You knew i lost one didn't you hyung.."
"It fell out when you were sleeping." Yoongi smiles, then gasps in surprise when the turbulence hits, clutching onto the armrest, his stomach churning uncomfortably.
"You okay Yoongi?" Jin asks, taking out his headphones when he feels Yoongi's hand brush against his arm.
"I'm okay, my stomach just fluttered.." Yoongi swallows the saliva that filled his mouth, taking a deep breath. "It'll pass.."
"We're almost on the ground, and we'll have a few hours to rest." Jin reassures the daegu rapper, taking his hand.
"Thanks hyungie.." Yoongi speaks softly, squeezing Jin's hand.
"You don't have to thank me. Just take it easy until the shoot okay?" Jin gently runs his thumb across Yoongi's knuckles.
"We landed!" Jungkook says excitedly, unbuckling himself, but Hoseok puts his hand on Jungkook's thigh.
"Let's wait a bit to get off Kook-ah." Hoseok orders gently side eyeing Yoongi, who still hadn't regained the color in his cheeks.
"Yes hyung..." Jungkook settles back in, eyes sparkling. It doesn't matter if I have to wait. I'll be able to film with the birds and see the waterfall and take pretty photos for army.
"Is everyone finished changing?" Namjoon asks, looking over his team, frowning when he notices Jungkook's darker outfit in comparison to everyone else's vibrant colors."Jungkook, that's the wrong outfit..that's for the garden shoot.."
"Aish..I'm sorry Hyung.." Jungkook quickly starts stripping to switch outfits. "Everything looks so pretty from the carride and the hotel view..I got excited.." he casts his eyes down guiltily. I'm not some teenager anymore.. I need to concentrate and not make such rookie mistakes.. I should've noticed I didn't match..
"It's okay, just pay attention from now on, alright? We need to focus on filming. We only have so much daylight with outside shoots." Namjoon rubs Jungkook's back, helping him get changed to make it quicker.
"I'll pay attention from now on.." Jungkook promises shyly looking away from Namjoon. After switching to match the others in the mankae line, the seven boys leave the dressing room, Jungkook fighting the urge to run towards the sound of the waterfall.
Hoseok and Jimin links arms with Jungkook, keeping him at pace with the others. "Calm down Jaykay you don't want to risk getting hurt on this uneven ground before we even get there." Hoseok scolds him gently, leading him around a tree root.
"I'll be careful, sorry hyung.." Jungkook watches his feet carefully stepping over branches and stones that made it on the path. Taehyung and Namjoon walk ahead of them, taking photos of the scenery in front of them. "Why can't I run free with Rapmonie hyung and Taehyungie-hyungie?"
"What? You don't want to walk with me?" Jimin pouts, letting go of Jungkook. "Fine, go play with them."
"I didn't mean it like that Jimin-shii.. I just wanted to go ahead too.." Jungkook relinks his arm with Jimin pulling him and Hoseok to walk ahead with the others.
"Look Hyung! That tree.. it's filled with birds." Jungkook points our, his voice scaring the birds into fleeing in several directions.
"Kook-ah you scared them away." Namjoon frowns, watching them go with disappointment.
"I'm sor..ah..ah.." Jungkook puts his hand over his nose with an itch forms, breath hitching. "Ah..heygifh!"
"[Bless you]" Jimin speaks in English. "You okay? Not catching a cold are you? You did sleep the whole plane ride.."
"No, no I'm okay..my nose just had a bad itch.."Jungkook sniffles, wiping his nose with the side of his hand. "A feather must've tickled my nose or something..I haven't felt sick today."
"I can see the waterfall!" Jin announces, everyone looking forward, trying to spot it through the trees.
"Oh wow, it's bigger than I thought it would be.." Yoongi's eyes widen when he sees it, the boys rushing to get closer.
Jungkook bends down to take a photo of a cluster of flowers, trying to ignore the itch that annoyed the tip of his nose.
"Don't get too close to the water, Jungkook-ah. You need to stay dry for the shoot."
"I won't hyung..I'm just looking at the flowers.." Jungkook's breath hitches when another sneeze builds up, but he gently rubs it away. I can't be getting sick now.. we're spending four days in a tropical paradise.
"Did you get water in your nose Gukkie?" Taehyung asks when he approaches Jungkook, the younger jumping when he sees Taehyung next to him.
"Aish, Hyung you scared me.. I didn't hear you coming over the water. I don't know what's wrong with me, but .ah..agh..heh'ticgish!" Jungkook quickly covers his face, Taehyung grabbing the back of his shirt to keep him balanced. "Ugh. Thanks Taehyungie-hyung. I was fine earlier..I don't know why I'm sneezing all of a sudden.."
"Maybe it's all the flowers.. maybe you should take some medicine just in case.." Taehyung suggests, pulling Jungkook away from them.
"But I want to get some good shots for Army to see." Jungkook whines, but makes no attempt to pull away.
"We have to work now. We can take photos together later, and I can take photos for you if you can't get close." Taehyung promises leading him back to the others. "Is there any way we can get allergy medicine for Jungkook? His nose is getting red and stuffy.."
"I'm sorry, but we would have to go back to the resort for that.. I'll send someone to go get some. Do you think you can film until then Jungkook-sii?" The manager asks.
"Yes, I'll be okay. It's not that bad. It's just an annoyance.. I can still film.." Jungkook replies politely.
A female staff member digs in her purse, handing him a small packet of tissues. "Here Jungkook. Blowing your nose might help."
"Thanks Noona.." he bows, turning away from the others to try to clear his nose of the clear goo. "That's much better.."
As soon as the seven members get their makeup redone and the director gives them their directions, the boys get right to work going through the scenes and choreography.
"Jimin-ah..you weren't looking in the same direction as the others and you led on the wrong foot.." Hoseok scolds him when they were reviewing the clips, noticing Jimin was looking at Jungkook who couldn't stop sniffling, fighting off the urge to sneeze.
"I'm sorry.. can we do it one more time? I'll get it right this time." Jimin bows in apology to his members, looking at Jungkook when he does it. Jungkookie looks uncomfortable..I need to get it right the first time so he can get some time to rest.
Jungkook tries to hold back another sneeze when he sees Jimin's worried gaze staring back at him, but Jimin could see his nose twitching as the itch builds up.
"Noona will be back soon.." Jimin gently uses his thumb to wipe the tear that formed in Jungkook's tear duct. "You don't have to be tough for us, okay?"
"I'm not crying..my eyes are just watering because of my allergies.." Jungkook sniffles. "I'm okay..it's just irrita..ah..itdgitch! Heh'itchu!"
"Bless you.." Hoseok frowns, hugging Jungkook from behind. "My poor baby.."
"Jungkook-sii I got..you the medicine." The staff member who ran to the resort calls to him, out of breath from running back.
Taehyung rushes over to get the medicine from her, popping the blister pack to get the round pink pill for Jungkook, bringing it back to him. "Here Jungkookie, I got it."
"Thanks Hyung." Jungkook swallows the pill Taehyung gives him, Jimin getting him water to help it go down quicker. "Let's do the shoot again."
"You don't want time for it to kick in?” Jin asks, fretting over the youngest.
Jungkook shakes his head."No, I already got us behind schedule with all the touch ups.. I can do it.."
Jungkook and Taehyung rush ahead of the other members despite the older members calling to them, unable to hear them over the sound of the birds.
"Oh wow.. it's so pretty!" Jungkook's pupils take over his irises, his eyes becoming to round black discs, taking in the special guests for their music video. "Oh wow..This one's purple..I never seen a purple bird before!'
"This is [purple honeycreeper.] This one rescue. I thought he would be perfect for you ." The bird handler smiles when he sees the boys look surprised at his Korean skills.
"[Purple honeycreeper..]" Jungkook repeats the name in English. "[What's bird name?]"
"[Ah, right introductions...] I'm Gary and this bird here is Viola."
"Can I touch?" Jungkook asks, ignoring his body's warning. The medicine helped him yesterday, but at the moment he felt just as bad as he did the first day they were filming.
"Hold out finger." Gary tells him, showing Taehyung what to do by getting Viola to go on his finger. "[Step up Viola.]" He gives the command, letting her climb onto his finger.
The other members catch up, taking in the sights of the colorful birds surrounding them.
Jungkook holds his to Viola, gasping when he feels the bird use its beak to balance herself while she climbs onto his finger. "Look Hyung..i'm holding a bird!" Jungkook sniffles, turning to the man. "Can i pet?"
"As long as you only touch her head and neck." Gary gently ordered.
"You can't touch a bird anywhere else or it will think you want to mate." Yoongi tells Jungkook.
Jungkook turns to the handler, who blushes."Ah, that's true. It.. excites them if you touch its wings or chest too much.."
Jungkook nods, gently touching Viola's head, gently ruffling the feathers. Oh no.. not now..
Jungkook quickly places his hand on Taehyung's shoulder, hoping the bird would have a safe escape from the sneezes he could feel coming despite his efforts to hold them back. "Heh'heh..heygifh! Heh'itchu! Higtcvhsgh!"
Viola screeches, flapping her wings in fear jumping off of Jungkook's hand and jumping onto Taehyung's head, trying to get farther from the sound that startled her.
The other birds go into panic at the sound of viola, Hoseok clinging to Namjoon when they take flight.
Jungkook covers his face, trying to muffle the sound, but when the birds take flight the feeling only worsens. "Hehtichih!"
"[Woah, Woah. It's okay Viola.. it's okay..]" Taehyung tries to speak English for the frightened bird, Gary trying to calm his other pets down.
"Somethings wrong you need to get away.." Jin starts leading Jungkook away from the chaos, his heart racing in fear.
I can't breathe..I need to calm down..
Jungkook staggered away from the others, Jin keeping a tight grip on the mankae"Woah Jungkook I got you.."
"Heh..hehitxgh! Heh'itchu! Hey'itchi!" Jungkook let out another flurry of sneezes, holding Jin tightly. It wasn't the flowers..
"Here Jungkookie, look at me.." Jin gently leads his chin up, taking a nasal spray from the bag he was given as an accessory. "I got this just in case.."
"Thanks hyung.." Jungkook sniffles, taking it from Jin. "Heh'itchii! Hey'itchi!" He sneezes as soon as he puts it near his nose only amplifying the itch that plagued his sinuses.
"Here let hyung do it." Jin gently grabs Jungkook's chin, tilting his head upwards. "Try to sit still for me. I'll make it quick..okay?"
Jungkook nods, holding his breath to try to avoid sneezing on Jin as he swiftly sprays the medicine into one nostril than the other.
"Hei' etfhitch! Heh'itchu!" Jungkook's eyes water as he sneezes. "I'm sorry Hyung.."
"It's okay baby.. I know you aren't feeling well." Jin rubs the back of Jungkook's neck. "I think your allergic to birds Jungkookie.."
"I was around birds before..I was fine.." Jungkook sniffles, rubbing at his nose to try to ease the itch that threatened to cause more sneezes to erupt from him.
"You can develop new allergies Kook-ah.. I know how excited you were to play with them, but outside of filming I think you should avoid them." Jin tells him solemnly.
Yoongi goes up to them with a small packet of tissues, giving it to Jungkook. "They got the birds under control, but they want to give them time to fully calm down."
"That's good. I was worried I ruined the...heh..heh.." Jungkook felt the sneeze building, but it was only a false start. "Ruined the music shoot.." he finishes, his voice coming out as a nasally whisper, trying to clear his nose to see if that would ease the discomfort that was making him miserable.
"It's not your fault, Jungkookie. We could always make changes. What's important is that you don't suffer for the shoot. Even if you push through it, army will be able to see how much you're suffering." Yoongi puts his arm around Jungkook, pulling him close.
"I'll go get the others so we can see what our next move is. We'll figure this out together, okay Kookie?" Jin leaves to the filming site.
"Hyung I really wanted to play with the birds.." Jungkook sighs, knowing that all the members would agree with Jin.
"I know. Life sucks.. now you and Jiminie can suffer together." Yoongi teases him lightly, getting a small smile out of Jungkook.

Thank you for all of your writing!!💜 I'd love to read more from the honey bunny universe, maybe a sickfic with either caretaker nurse!jk or jungkook getting sick because of his work and getting taken care of by tae
ok this request is making me soooo happy, I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to know someone wants more of a “universe” i’ve written. like wowwwww I am over the moon rn. anyway yes I’ll write both options because i’m obnoxious :D
1: set immediately after honey bunny– jungkook was right that tae is coming down with a cold and it’s not just allergies
2: jungkook runs himself down from working long hours and gets sick and tae takes care of him

fixed a typo, added a couple of words, and posted this on ao3 if anyone is interested :)
It’s not a mountain, it’s a butte (1/2)
Title: It’s not a mountain, it’s a butte (1/2)
Word Count: 5451
Summary: Jungkook loves hiking. He absolutely loves being in nature– even if nature does not love him back. And today, on a very rare occasion, all six of his best friends are joining him for a short hike that he’s been planning for months. It does not go quite as planned.
Sickie: Jungkook (snz, allergies, asthma)
Caretakers: OT7
A/N: This got a bit long, so I split it into 3 chapters. I'll probably post the other chapters sometime next week. This first one is the main story and fulfills this request, but I couldn't resists adding on the aftermath of Jungkook's allergy/asthma attack and the aftercare and then the after after care of the next day too, lol. Also, this is completely unedited and likely full of typos and grammatical errors per usual.
Jungkook lowkey hates springtime.
Overall, spring is actually his second favorite season because of the milder temperatures. His first favorite season by far is winter, because hot weather sucks and cold weather is where he belongs to his very core.
Spring, however, usually means allergies. Lots and lots of allergies. Itchy, sniffly, sneezy allergies. Jungkook’s body unfortunately did not get the memo that other bodies get and so on top of allergies, he also has asthma, which of course is always the worst for him in the springtime.
On this particular spring Saturday morning, he wakes up with puffy eyes and a stuffy nose. It’s pretty typical for this time of year, and he’s usually not so cheerful upon waking when he has to immediately sneeze before he even fully has his eyes open, but this morning he doesn’t give a shit because it’s hiking day.
Jungkook loves hiking.
He absolutely loves being in nature– even if nature does not love him back. And today, on a very rare occasion, all six of his best friends are joining him for a short hike that he’s been planning for months. He’s very excited for hiking day.
With a mildly irritated sigh, Jungkook pulls the comforter completely over his head, sneezes six times in a row, and sniffs sharply to chase away the tickle that will be returning as soon as he lets his guard down and then remain in his sinuses for the rest of the day.
When he resurfaces he finds two faces staring down at him.
“Morning,” he says with a cheerful smile and a soft sniffle.
“Good morning, and bless you!” Jimin responds.
“Good morning!” Taehyung says. “We thought we would have to wake you up.”
“Nope!” Jungkook replies. He cups a hand over his mouth and nose and sneezes once more, his whole body shaking. “I’m up. It’s hiking day!” He pauses, hand still over his lower face, anticipating another sneeze that never comes. After a minute he shakes his head and scrubs hard at his nose with a sleepy, irritated groan.
Both Jimin and Taehyung, looking more than half-asleep themselves, lean down at the same time– Jimin on his left and Taehyung on his right– to pat him on the chest sympathetically.
“Don’t forget to take your allergy pill,” Jimin reminds him. “Did you pack your inhaler last night?”
Jungkook glances towards his nightstand where his inhaler is. “Yep.”
Taehyung pokes him in the belly. “Well, get up, then. You made us all wake up at the asscrack of dawn so this better be worth it. Let’s go hike your mountain.”
“It’s a butte,” Jungkook corrects him, but Taehyung is already leaving the room, yawning so widely his jaw cracks.
“I need coffee,” Jimin says, also yawning, and he trails behind Taehyung.
Despite his excitement, Jungkook is the last to be ready, and when he gets to the living room everyone else is lounging about.
“Let’s go!” He practically shouts, urging them all out the door. “It’s hiking day!”
“Does the whole street have to know?” Yoongi grumbles, making a face as Jungkook pushes a set of keys into his palm. Even though he’s making a show of being grumpy, he’s the only one Jungkook trusts besides himself to drive at such an early hour.
The seven of them take two cars to the trail, arriving before the sun rises. There’s a slight chill to the morning air, but the skies are clear and it’s already the start of a beautiful day weather wise.
Jungkook gets out of the car and reaches his arms up high above his head, leaning to one side and then the other and moaning loudly at the stretch. He’s wearing tight black spandex shorts and a black hoodie that’s halfway to being a crop top, and Taehyung pokes at his exposed stomach with a smirk.
“We might see some deer if we’re quiet enough,” Jungkook announces, ignoring Taehyung. He pulls a camera from his backpack and hangs the strap around his neck. After he shoulders his backpack, he turns towards the trailhead. “Ahhh,” he says with a noisy exhale that he follows with a long, deep breath in through his nose. “Smell that? That’s the beautiful smell of nature.”
He sneezes immediately afterwards.
“Bless you,” Hoseok and Namjoon say in unison.
“Did you take your allergy pill?” Yoongi asks.
“I take it every morning,” Jungkook responds. “Did you take your brain pill?”
Yoongi flips him off and mimics, “I take it every morning.”
“Only because I have to remind you,” Seokjin mutters under his breath.
Taehyung yawns and plasters himself against Jimin’s back, snaking his arms around his waist and tucking his hands into Jimin’s hoodie pocket. “I can only smell Jimin’s coffee breath.”
Jimin, still half asleep, only pouts.
Jungkook sneezes, again.
“Bless you,” Hoseok and Namjoon say in unison, again.
“Doesn’t seem like you took your allergy pill,” Yoongi grumbles. “At least tell me you brought your inhaler.”
Ignoring him, Jungkook bends down to check that his black hiking boots are laced up properly. He adjusts his backpack, stretches his calves for all of ten seconds, and straightens his posture.
“Let’s hike this butte,” he says cheerfully, and then he takes off at a light jog, disappearing down the trail and leaving them all behind.
When they catch up to him, Jungkook has his camera raised to his face and he’s squatting by the base of a pine tree, looking at the ground.
“What are you taking a picture of?” Taehyung wonders. “A worm?”
“Caterpillar,” Jungkook murmurs. “See? Right there.”
Taehyung pats him on the shoulder in a way that indicates that he does not in fact see the caterpillar. “It’s a very nice caterpillar,” he says anyway.
The hike Jungkook has chosen isn’t too long nor too strenuous of a hike– only 7 kilometers or so of a well established trail– and they get a beautiful view of the sun rising when they start their hike in earnest, climbing up the east side of the butte.
Although he’d started off at a fast pace, Jungkook isn’t feeling particularly competitive today, and because he has his camera he chooses to take his time watching wildlife and taking pictures of every bird and plant he sees along the way.
Namjoon leads the group instead, long legs carrying him far very quickly. Jimin has the shortest stride but he’s the second most competitive of the group behind Jungkook, and so he falls into pace right next to Namjoon. Taehyung, Yoongi and Hoseok stay in the middle of the pack, their pace a bit more average.
Seokjin falls back and keeps Jungkook company in the rear. He watches fondly as Jungkook gushes over the beauty in nature and patiently listens when Jungkook explains the different species of birds they see on the trail.
“Do you think we’ll see any deer?” Jungkook asks Seokjin, scanning the hillside hopefully.
“Maybe,” Seokjin replies. “Are there usually deer on this mountain?”
“It’s not a mountain,” Jungkook whispers as a curious chipmunk peeks out at them from behind a fern. “It’s a butte.”
Jungkook and Seokjin continue up the steepest part of the path until it evens out in elevation, stopping every so often so Jungkook can take his pictures, and they’re the last to reach the summit. There’s a small lookout with a view of the surrounding mountains and the other five are all crammed onto the one single bench there, eating snacks.
“Look,” Hoseok says around a mouthful of trail mix. He points at the ground where Jungkook and Seokjin are standing. “There’s a compass on the ground. It shows what mountains are in the distance, too.”
Jungkook already knows this. He’s been up hiking here before. He’s about to look down at it when Seokjin covers his eyes from behind.
“Guess which way is north?” he says, chuckling in Jungkook’s ear.
“Fuck off,” he says, shrugging Seokjin off, because he’s shit at directions and has absolutely no idea which direction north is.
Hoseok and Jimin nearly fall off the bench from laughing so hard.
Jungkook flips them off and then walks to the lookout point, cheeks flushed in sudden embarrassment. He lifts his camera to hide his face and marvels at the beautiful early morning view. He can hear Seokjin join the others on the bench– if Yoongi’s complaints of getting squished are anything to go off– and he can’t stay mad for long when he hears their chatter and joyful laughter.
He turns and snaps a picture just as Seokjin is shoving a massive handful of trail mix into his mouth.
“That’s hot,” he smirks, and this time Seokjin is flipping him off.
They stay up at the summit for about fifteen minutes before Jungkook is itching to get moving again. He takes a long drink from his water bottle and shoves it back into his backpack. Even though it’s still a bit chilly, he peels off his hoodie and ties it around his waist, snaps one more picture of the group sitting on the bench, and then starts the descent knowing they’ll all follow quickly once they realize he’s leaving.
Jungkook smiles when he remembers there’s a meadow just on the other side, full of beautiful wildflowers that he can’t wait to photograph. Sure enough, he doesn’t have to go very far down the trail before he spots the colorful field ahead of him.
“Hey,” Seokjin says, catching up to him. “Wait up!”
“Fuck off,” Jungkook mumbles, but there’s no real heat behind it.
He hears Seokjin’s pace quicken behind him and slows down a little. His eyes are starting to itch and he scrunches up his face, trying not to rub at them. His nose is starting to itch, too.
Seokjin peers at Jungkook, taking in the irritation he can see on his face. “Oh, come on,” he says. “I was just teasing about the direction thing. Don’t be grumpy with me.”
“I’m not grumpy.” Jungkook gives in and digs his fist into his eye.
“Okay,” Seokjin says, sounding unconvinced.
Jungkook rubs at his nose, and then sniffles, and then nearly stumbles a step when his nose prickles sharply, bringing a few tears to his eyes.
And then he sneezes.
It’s not just any sneeze. It’s harsh, quick and forceful and so itchy sounding that Seokjin winces.
“Oh, shit,” he murmurs. “You okay?”
Jungkook doesn’t respond. He’s bent at the waist, sneezing again. The irritation makes him cough afterward, and he feels Seokjin’s hand on his upper arm, like he’s getting ready to steady him if needed.
When he straightens, his eyes and nose are streaming and his eyes are still itchy as fuck.
“You okay?” Seokjin repeats. He’s biting his lower lip.
Jungkook rubs at his eyes with his fists. “Yep. I’m fine.”
At this point, the others have caught up to them.
“Was that Jungkook sneezing?” Jimin asks, pulling a small packet of tissues from his pocket of his sweatpants. “Here.”
Jungkook accepts the tissues, but he doesn’t have time to get one out before he has to sneeze again, another harsh expulsion that has him bending at the waist.
Jimin rolls his eyes in amusement and takes the unused tissue pack back, opening the plastic and pulling several tissues out before passing them to Jungkook. They all know by the sound that it’s not just a regular sneeze– it’s very clearly the start of an allergy attack. Jungkook thinks about how often they all like to comment on his sneezing, which apparently sounds different depending on what’s making him sneeze. To him, it all just sounds like sneezing. Instead of going off the sound, he goes off the feeling, and the current feeling is an unbearably itchy allergy attack that’s going to have him sneezing his head off for the rest of the hike, probably.
Fuck springtime.
While Jungkook blows his nose, Yoongi digs through his backpack and locates Jungkook’s epi pen, extra inhaler, allergy medication and more tissues.
“Holy shit, Yoongi,” Jungkook laughs. He scrubs the wad of tissues in his hand under his nose back and forth several times until the undersides of his nostrils are bright pink. “I actually did my meds this morning.”
“When are you due for more?”
“I’m fine.” Jungkook says instead of answering. He tucks the used tissues into his pocket. “I can breathe. I’m just a little itchy.”
Hoseok watches him rubbing his eyes again with a frown. “Yeah, we can see that. Quit rubbing your face.”
Jungkook sneezes again and does not quit rubbing his face.
Namjoon sighs and pats his shoulder. “Why did you plan your hike by all these flowers?” He asks, gesturing at the meadow. “There are so many. Damn.”
Jungkook starts to answer, but he’s hit with another sharp prickle in his sinuses. He holds up a finger, sucks in a massive breath, and then sneezes loudly four times in a row.
“Uh, pretty sure you just scared all the deer away,” Seokjin teases, smiling a little before going back to chewing on his bottom lip.
Jimin pulls more tissues out of the pack and hands them to Jungkook. “Bless you!”
“Jimin, you’re a lifesaver with these tissues,” Jungkook says with a sniffle. His nose is drippy now and he can feel the next sneeze approaching fast. “C’mon, let’s start heading back to the car. There might be deer closer to the trailhead.”
“Wait! Don’t you want to take a moment and–”
Whatever Yoongi’s saying, Jungkook doesn’t catch the end of it. He’s scanning the meadow for deer and wondering how close he can get to the pretty wildflowers without throwing himself into an asthma attack on top of everything. He might already be heading for an asthma attack, with the way his chest is starting to feel, but they’re already halfway through the short hike and he has his own inhaler in his backpack in addition to the one Yoongi apparently thought to bring along.
In the end, he decides to take pictures of the flowers as he walks and doesn’t stray from the trail even an inch. Namjoon and Seokjin take the lead once they catch up, but they don’t let themselves get too far ahead, and Jungkook notices them glancing back over their shoulders every time he sneezes.
Jimin, his sweet angel of a friend, sticks close and keeps handing him tissues. Hoseok blesses him from behind so frequently that eventually, Jungkook stops and turns around.
“Seok,” he says, and wow he sounds like shit. He clears his throat and holds up a tissue. “You don’t have to say bless you every single time.”
Hoseok blushes. “Sorry. It’s just a habit.”
Jungkook rips the tissue in half and shoves one half up his right nostril, then the other half up his left. “There,” he says, sounding even more stuffed-up and ridiculous. “This will hold off the sneezing for a bit.”
Yoongi raises an eyebrow skeptically but doesn’t say anything.
“That’s…kind of gross, but okay,” Jimin tells him. He stays close by with tissues at the ready anyway.
They all start walking again. The tissue stuffed up his nose does keep the sneezing at bay, but only for about ten minutes. In that time, they descend past the meadow and get back to the treeline, where Jungkook spots a woodpecker and spends a good few minutes photographing it.
“That’s a nice bird,” Taehyung says, reaching up to thread his fingers through the hair at Jungkook’s nape. “You sure you can breathe okay like that?”
Jungkook sniffs hard in response, which turns out to be a mistake since there’s still a half a tissue stuffed up each of his nostrils. The intake of air pulls the tissues further up his nose and sets off an intense tickle that makes him snort and then cough.
It’s not his smartest moment.
He reaches up and tugs the pieces of tissue out of his nose, and he’s pretty sure Jimin gags next to him at the sight, but he doesn’t really hear him because doing so only makes the tickle so, so much worse. He finds himself suddenly trapped in between sneezing and not sneezing, his lungs forcing him to suck in air and his nose twitching in irritation but not quite completing the job. It’s torturous and it lasts for what feels like hours, but in reality is probably only twelve seconds before he hears the crinkle of plastic next to his ear.
“Try blowing your nose,” Jimin suggests, and Jungkook forces his eyes open so he can see. He takes the tissue that Jimin’s offering and cups it over his nose.
“Jungkook,” he hears Jimin say after a moment. “You gotta try blowing your nose. Or sneeze, or something.”
He’s vaguely aware that he’s still standing there in sneezy limbo, mouth wide open and nostrils flaring, but he can’t do anything because his sinuses are on fire and his breath keeps catching with nowhere to go and the tickle is spreading to the back of his throat and he’s still not sneezing.
He feels something swipe beneath his eyes to catch the irritated tears– Jimin’s fingers– and then a hand covers his hand around the tissue and squeezes lightly.
As soon as the air is cut off to his nostrils, Jungkook sighs in relief, the tension draining from his body, and as soon as Jimin lets go of his hand, he sneezes explosively.
“Bless you!” Hoseok chirps.
“Bless you,” Jimin says. He passes another tissue over.
“Fuck, shit,” Jungkook grunts out, coughing a few times.
Taehyung squeezes the back of his neck.
Hoseok and Yoongi are looking at each other, communicating silently with each other in their own secret language that only they speak, but that Jungkook can understand perfectly– they’re debating whether or not to ask him if he wants to take his inhaler. Jungkook can tell by the way they’re staring into each other's eyes and frowning, and also by the way that Yoongi is cradling Jungkook’s inhaler in his palm.
“So, that sucked,” Jungkook croaks out. He coughs a few more times. “Please never let me put tissues up my nose again.”
“Gladly,” Jimin responds with a grimace.
“Let’s go,” Jungkook says, rubbing his eyes as he starts walking down the trail again. “I don’t want Joon and Seokjin to see a deer without me.”
“That would be tragic,” Taehyung agrees, following behind.
Jungkook’s sinuses and lungs are starting to ache, and his eyes are so itchy he can’t keep himself from rubbing at them every minute or so, but he’s still in good spirits as they take a switchback and finally get the final, glorious view for the last part of their hike.
Jungkook lifts his camera and snaps about ten pictures. He uses his viewfinder to spot Namjoon and Seokjin below, not too far ahead of them on the trail, and takes a picture of them too.
Taehyung, Jimin, Hoseok and Yoongi stop behind him as he takes pictures and drink from their water bottles.
“Why does going downhill hurt my knees so much?” Yoongi complains.
“It’s because you’re old,” Taehyung retorts.
Hoseok and Jimin fall into each other with laughter, and Jungkook shushes them. “Shh, you’ll scare the deer away!”
It doesn’t matter how loud they’re laughing, though, because in the next moment a tickle flares in Jungkook’s sinuses and he has to sneeze. The sneeze rings out through the air, and it’s followed by a second sneeze, and then a third, the itch spreading again in a way that only his allergies can do. He reaches up and scrubs hard at his nose, but it does nothing to stop the tickle nor the resulting sneezes, one right after the other without much of a chance to breathe in between.
“Bless you,” Hoseok says after about seven or eight sneezes.
Jungkook shakes his head, swipes the back of his hand over his streaming eyes, and then cups both hands over his mouth and nose and keeps on sneezing. He sneezes so many times in a row that he grows dizzy, head spinning when he tries to open his eyes. He instinctively reaches out and grabs on to the thing nearest to him, which happens to be Jimin’s arm.
“Woah, Kook–? What’s wrong?”
Jungkook can only dig his fingers into Jimin’s arm as another fit of sneezes takes him over.
“Sit down for a sec,” Hoseok says in his ear, helping to guide him to the ground as he sniffles and blinks against the spots in his vision.
Once he’s sitting on the ground, he feels Jimin take his hand, press a handful of tissues against his palm, and then help lift his arm back up to his face.
“Blow,” he says, waiting until Jungkook gets the tissues to his nose before he reaches over and slides Jungkook’s backpack off his shoulders for him.
Jungkook sneezes into his wad of tissues. And sneezes some more. And then sneezes about ten more times for good measure, and not a single sneeze does anything to relieve the maddening tickle in the back of his nose and throat. He pauses to suck in a greedy breath of air, cough harshly, and then sneezes twice more before he can finally stop. The tissues in his hand are soaked through and are practically useless by the time he tries to blow his nose, but he does it anyway, snorting air out of his nostrils forcefully and shuddering at the awful, raw feeling he always has post sneezing fit.
“Bless you!” Jimin and Hoseok exclaim at the same time as soon as it’s apparent that Jungkook is done sneezing for the time being.
Seokjin and Namjoon are squatting down in front of him.
“You’re both going to get permanent wrinkles from frowning so hard,” Jungkook tells them. His voice is nearly gone.
Seokjin heaves a deep sigh and stands up. He offers a hand out to Jungkook, helping him up off the ground. Jungkook hops up and brushes the dirt off his ass, then turns to Jimin.
“Please tell me there are more tissues.”
Jimin holds up another unopened pack of tissues. “So many more tissues. Take all you need.”
Jungkook grabs his backpack from the ground and opens the front pocket so he can shove all the used tissues inside, emptying out his pockets as well. He finishes off the rest of his water, shoulders his backpack, and gratefully takes the pack of tissues from Jimin.
“Need your inhaler before we keep going?” Yoongi asks. He cups a hand under Jungkook’s chin and gently tilts his head back, eyes narrowed as he inspects the puffiness around his eyes and nose.
“Your nose is so red,” Taehyung comments, poking the tip of Jungkook’s nose with a grin.
Jungkook squirms under their gaze.
“I’m fine,” he says hoarsely.
Taehyung reaches over and pulls the collar of Jungkook’s t-shirt from his neck.
“I’m not going to get a rash!” He nudges Taehyung’s hand away just in time to get his own hand up to his face, sneezing against the back of his wrist once. “I’m really fine,” he tries to reassure everyone, even as his breath hitches in preparation for yet another sneeze. “Honestly, I’m just really sneezy right now.”
“You’re sneezier than I’ve ever seen you before,” Seokjin agrees.
“I hope I didn’t scare all the deer away,” Jungkook pouts.
Hoseok hooks his arm through Jungkook’s and gives him an optimistic smile. “If you did, we’ll just come back some other time.”
They start walking again, this time sticking together as a group. Jungkook carries his own tissues this time, though his sneezes have gotten smaller and stuffier and he stops trying to cover them up after a while. Soon, he’ll be too stuffed up to sneeze properly and it will hurt– he can already feel his sinuses throbbing.
He has to stop walking again not five minutes later, annoyed about having to pause every three steps to sneeze. Despite the increase in frequency of sneezes, he’s getting very little relief from sneezing so much– his whole face just feels too itchy and he knows it’s only going to keep growing worse until he can get back home and shower. After a fit of sneezes that lasts too long for him to count, making him have to stop on the trail for a good several minutes, he turns to Yoongi.
“You happen to have eye drops in that bag?”
Yoongi does in fact have eye drops, and Jungkook takes the bottle as fast as he can because Yoongi looks like he’s a second away from putting them in Jungkook’s eyes himself. After, he unzips his own backpack and pulls out his inhaler to take a hit.
“Preventative measure,” he croaks out before Yoongi can say anything.
Suddenly, Taehyung gasps and they all startle.
“What?” Hoseok squeaks.
Taeyhung is pointing just over Jungkook’s shoulder. “Kook, look at that butterfly!”
Jungkook turns and looks to where Taehyung is pointing, a grin spreading over his entire face when he sees one of the biggest monarch butterflies he’s even seen before, fluttering so close he could probably reach out and touch it. He lifts his camera, snaps a couple of pictures, and then turns to Taehyung.
“Good spot!”
Taehyung puffs up his chest, proud of himself.
Jungkook’s nose twitches. His smile fades, his breath hitching erratically. “Fuck,” he pants out breathlessly before sneezing harshly. When he looks up, six mouths are frowning at him. “Sorry,” he rasps, suddenly feeling upset. “I don’t…” He trails off, unsure of what to say, but Yoongi immediately grabs his hand.
“No apologizing,” he says firmly. “Let’s get you back to the car, hm? Do you want Namjoon to give you a piggyback ride?”
“Hey!” Namjoon protests halfheartedly. “I didn’t agree to that.”
“I would take up that offer in a second if there wasn’t the risk of me sneezing in your hair the whole way back,” Jungkook chuckles.
“I appreciate that,” Namjoon says with a grin.
As soon as the parking lot is in view, Jungkook launches into another seemingly endless sneezing fit.
He stifles each sneeze into his hand, trying to hold them back as best as he can so they can make it back to the cars. It’s a difficult feat– his sneezes, especially his allergy sneezes, are strong and not at all easy to contain– but it makes it so he can keep walking and sneeze at the same time. One of the downsides, however, is that as soon as he starts stifling, he also starts to wheeze slightly, and it only takes a couple of minutes for everyone else to hear it.
“No, no,” Yoongi scolds when he realizes what Jungkook is doing. “Do not hold them back like that. Shit, Kookie, what are you thinking?” Then, a little softer, he adds knowingly, “Really, just let them out, baby. We’ll help you get back to the car.”
Jungkook raises an eyebrow at the pet name, but doesn’t say anything.
He feels Namjoon cup the back of his neck. “We’re almost there, Koo.”
Jungkook slows his pace just a little. Now his friends are breaking out the pet names and the gentle touches, which means they are officially worried about him and they’re going to be openly babying him like they’ve been wanting to this entire time.
Not that he cares, in this moment, because now that he’s not allowed to hold back his sneezing, he has to fully stop walking every time he sneezes.
One step. A harsh, ticklish sneeze that sucks the energy out of him and makes his eyes water. And before he’s taking the next step, he’s already building up to the next sneeze, sucking a trembling breath in, in, in– before he explodes. And then it repeats.
Jungkook feels a soft grip on his upper arm. Jimin is on his right and Hoseok is on his left, and at first they’re just trying to gently guide him along, but he’s sneezing so helplessly that eventually they each hook and arm through his elbows, and start nudging him a little more firmly down the trail. He trusts them to get him back to the car and not let him trip.
“Here, love,” Jimin says, holding a tissue to his nose for him.
Another pet name. Jungkook feels his face heat up. His nose is running profusely, though, so he doesn’t really have room to refuse the help.
“Don’t know why I can’t stop sneezing,” he mumbles congestedly, his breath rushing out in a wheezy exhale before he promptly sneezes again.
Jimin and Hoseok guide him to a bench near the trailhead to sit down, even though they can literally see their cars from the spot. Jungkook slumps against whoever is sitting next to him– Hoseok, he’s pretty sure, and closes his eyes tiredly.
“Poor thing,” Taehyung murmurs. “You sound so miserable and itchy.”
“Should we try to let him ride out the sneezing first?” He hears Seokjin say. “It seems like it’s slowing down, right?”
Namjoon voices his agreement and Jungkook hopes he’s right, because he honestly can’t tell at this point.
Yoongi keeps a hand on his back, rubbing lightly between his shoulder blades, standing behind the bench. Jimin sits to his right and holds tissues for him, which would embarrass Jungkook on most days, but in this moment he tolerates simply because he’s so fucking itchy and he can hardly see past the irritated tears that won’t quit– not to mention the fact that his nose is a drippy faucet now.
Hoseok sits to his left and keeps a grounding hand on his thigh, allowing Jungkook to lean on him. The others hover and give him sips of water every so often, petting his hair and squeezing his shoulders, offering encouragement after every sneeze.
Jungkook does eventually slow down on the sneezing, enough that he can actually tell he’s slowing down, but as the sneezing dies down a growing sense of irritation and embarrassment replace it.
He also might be the tiniest bit grumpy, because hiking day did not go as he planned at all.
Fuck springtime.
He huffs out a wheezy breath. “Sorry I ruined the hike,” he rasps, crossing his arms and frowning.
Yoongi holds his inhaler out. “What did I say about apologizing?”
Jungkook snatches the tissues that Jimin is holding and pulls several out of the pack, pressing the bundle to his nose. He stifles a tired sneeze, coughs, and then closes his eyes. “Well. I’m still sorry.”
“Come here, baby,” Hoseok says, wrapping his arm around Jungkook’s shoulder, and Jungkook lets himself be tugged against his chest.
He feels tears welling up in his eyes and keeps them squeezed shut, not willing to let them fall. He jams the tissues under his nose, stifles two more sneezes, and then pinches his nose shut so no more can escape.
Jungkook, not at all pouting and definitely not crying, rests his head on Hoseok’s chest and only his stuffy breathing fills the still-early morning air. For a moment, they’re all quiet, listening to Jungkook breathe. As soon as he feels like he has his tears under control, Jungkook squints one eye open, glancing between everyone to get a read on their expressions, and feeling relief when he doesn’t see any disappointment on any of their faces. He blinks a few times to clear any remaining tears, looks towards the parking lot to determine how much farther they have left to go, and then freezes.
Suddenly, Jungkook snorts, which results in a soft sneeze, and then full-on giggles, because he absolutely cannot believe his eyes.
“What?” Namjoon asks, whipping his head around to look at Jungkook.
“Are you laughing?”
“Kookie, baby, are you okay?”
They follow his finger when he points away from them and see a deer in the distance, standing so still it looks fake, staring directly at them.
“See? I didn’t scare all the deer away,” he croaks out.
“The fuck, Jungkook?” Seokjin yells. “Don’t joke about deer at a time like this!”
Jungkook stands and coughs hoarsely into his fist. The deer is still unmoving despite Seokjin’s loud voice, but he wants to get a picture of it before it runs away. He raises his camera, snaps a picture, and then lets his camera fall back against his chest just in time to cup both hands over his mouth and nose and sneeze mightily.
The deer bolts. Jungkook swipes his wrist under his nose and turns to Seokjin.
“At a time like what?”
With that, Jungkook turns and strolls back toward the cars, leaving his friends in stunned silence behind him.

Cherry Blossom Pink
Title: Cherry Blossom Pink
Word Count: 564
Summary: The group goes on a walk in early spring.
Sickie: Jimin (snz/allergies)
Caretaker: OT7
Tumblr media
“Look at Kookie.” Hoseok laughs, nudges Yoongi in the shoulder. “He’s loving the sunshine, he’s so happy.”
Yoongi wraps his arms around himself and smiles fondly. “How is he not cold?”
They’re all wearing sweaters, except for Jungkook, who’s in a t-shirt and shorts as he spreads his arms wide and basks in the slight warmth of the morning sun, despite the fact that it’s a chilly morning.
“hhshxt! ktsh-uh! hhh’tsh!”
Hoseok turns to look back over his shoulder, where Jimin is swiping at his pink nose, the too-long sleeves of his hoodie pulled over his hands.
“Aw,” he tuts. “And look at poor Jimine.”
Yoongi also turns around and watches as Jimin sneezes another three times.
“kgsh! iiish-uh! iiihhh-hxxsh!”
“Bless you!” Hoseok calls out, and Jimin looks up, in the middle of scrubbing at his nose with his sleeve as Taehyung rubs his back.
“Thank you!” He calls back.
“The cherry blossoms?” Yoongi guesses as they pause to wait for Jimin and Taehyung.
“They get him every year,” Hoseok confirms.
“Does anyone have a tissue?” Jimin asks when he and Taehyung catch up. “tshch! kiiishch! khh-shiew!”
Yoongi and Hoseok both shake their heads.
“I bet hyung has some,” Yoongi says, looking ahead to where Namjoon and Seokjin are farther up the path, a short distance behind Jungkook.
They continue to walk, meandering along until Jimin’s sneezes begin to increase in frequency.
“hhh-KTSH! hhx’shiew! h’iiish-uh! Whew.”
“Stop rubbing your nose so hard,” Taehyung scolds him. “It’s already bright pink!”
“Can’t help it,” Jimin pouts. “I’m itchy. ktsh-uh! hh-hngch! huh’iiish!”
They speed up a little, and when they’re nearly caught up to the others, Yoongi jogs ahead. “Hyungie!”
Seokjin spins around and smiles, his nose twitching as he sniffles. “Hey, Yoongi-ah. Do you see Jungkookie up there? He’s like a little lizard.”
Yoongi chuckles. “I don’t understand it. It’s too cold outside.” He puts a hand on Seokjin’s shoulder, taking in his red-rimmed eyes and the slight pink along the edges of his nostrils. “Do you have any tissues?”
Seokjin sniffles again and shakes his head. “I wish I did. The cherry blossoms are getting to me.”
“I see that. Same with Jimin. We were thinking we should head back–”
“Oh– HHHDSH’uh! Excuse me,” Seokjin sniffles, ears turning bright red.
“Jungkook-ah!” Namjoon yells, cupping his hands around his mouth, and up ahead Jungkook stops and spins around. A second later, he’s running back towards the group, smiling so wide it makes them all grin.
“I wanna stay out in the sunshine forever, hyungs,” he says when he reaches them, his cheeks bright pink.
“hnx’shiew! iiish! iiihhhSHIEW! Oh, goodness,” Jimin murmurs, rubbing his sleeve beneath his nose.
“You okay, Jiminie-hyung?” Jungkook’s smile falters.
“I’ll be fine once we get home and I can blow my nose,” Jimin replies. “I need a tissue.”
“Oh!” Jungkook digs in the pocket of his shorts and produces a small packet of tissues. He pulls a couple of them out and hands them to Jimin. “You should have just asked!”
Seokjin laughs. “You ran too far up ahead.”
Jungkook pulls two more tissues out and hands them over to Seokjin. “You sound like you need some too, hyung.”
“Save them for Jiminie,” Seokjin says, shaking his head at the offer. “He’s gonna need them.”
“khhshiew! ktsh-uh! Hhh-ktsh!”
“True.”
“Bless you, Jiminie!” Hoseok throws his arm around Jimin’s shoulder. “Let’s go home.”

hiiii I just wanted to say that you can always send messages to my inbox and private message me! I promise I'm not scary lol.
also, if you ever want to send me a request as yourself but have the request remain anonymous, just let me know! same goes in general for keeping your entire request anonymous, just tell me if you don't want me to publish the whole ask (I can say something generic like "written for an anonymous request" etc.). I don't mind this at all!
lastly...I know I said we would be back to the regularly scheduled sickfics by now BUT I am still on the allergyfic kick so I'm sorry in advance if that's not your thing. sickfics next week hopefully 😂

I posted a longer, slightly more edited version of this story on ao3 if anyone is interested!
can you do a story with jin who has a cold in the summer time plz 🥺 🙏
Title: Beach Day
Work Count: 830
Summary: Of course Seokjin is going to tag along to the beach even though he’s sick. How else is he going to keep an eye on everyone?
Sickie: Seokjin
Caretaker: Hoseok
Hoseok runs his fingers through Seokjin’s hair, smoothing it in sections back from his face, tucking it behind his ears as he marvels at how soft and fluffy it is.
“Your hair is getting so long.”
Seokjin’s eyes are closed behind his sunglasses but his lashes flutter at Hoseok’s words. He’s flat on his back with his head on Hoseok’s lap, breathing through his mouth, lips parted just a fraction. Hoseok listens to how stuffed up and wheezy he sounds with a frown. There are beads of sweat forming along Seokjin’s hairline and he dabs at them with his wrist, simultaneously drying his skin and checking his forehead for a temperature despite the fact that he’s already done so several times in the past half hour.
A scream rings out in the distance somewhere down the beach. Hoseok startles, which makes Seokjin’s entire body tense up.
“Sorry, sorry,” Hoseok soothes quickly, eyes scanning the shoreline as he rubs Seokjin’s chest until he relaxes again. “They’re just dunking each other in the ocean again. Happy screams.”
“Aish,” Seokjin whispers, voice raspy.
“Yeah,” Hoseok agrees. He leans down and presses a kiss to the tip of Seokjin’s nose. “Why don’t you try to nap for a bit?”
“Can’t keep an eye on everyone if I nap.”
Hoseok looks toward the ocean again, counting five heads before he looks down at Seokjin and pats his chest. “Everyone is fine. I have two eyes on them. Sit up for a sec?”
Seokjin is silent, still for a few moments before he sits up halfway, propping himself up on one elbow. His hair sticks up in the front, disheveled from Hoseok’s ministrations. Hoseok can see him look out at the water, eyes narrowed as he watches. He eases out from underneath Seokjin and stretches his legs out in front of him, uncomfortable from sitting cross-legged for so long. Then, he spreads out a second towel so he can lie down. Once he’s settled, he reaches out to Seokjin, brushing his thumb along the fever-pink spots high on his cheeks for a moment before he takes his sunglasses off his face and folds them up. Seokjin squints against the sun, his eyebrows drawing together and his lower lip jutting out in a pout.
“Come here,” Hoseok says, opening his arms, and Seokjin lies back down with his head on Hoseok’s chest. His movements are lethargic and he lets Hoseok maneuver him into a comfortable position, arms limp at his sides.
Pressing a kiss to Seokjin’s temple, Hoseok frowns at the warmth he can feel coming off his skin. “You should have stayed home.”
“Can’t keep an eye on everyone if I’m at home,” Seokjin replies hoarsely. He swipes his tongue over his dry, slightly cracked lips. He coughs softly, the movement shaking both of them.
Hoseok decides not to point out that he now has his back to the ocean and half his face pressed against Hoseok’s chest, and so he isn’t keeping an eye on anyone anyway.
With one arm wrapped around Seokjin’s body and one hand carding through his fluffy hair, Hoseok closes his eyes and basks in the warmth of the sun. He thinks about how warm Seokjin feels against him, thinks about how lying out here is sure to make his fever worse, how he really should have pushed harder to have him stay home. He thinks about how on edge Seokjin has been since they got here, always worrying whenever any of them dip so much as a toe in the ocean, and how anxious he must be that everyone is out there swimming in it now. He can feel the tension in Seokjin’s body, how tight his muscles are even as illness weighs his body down and makes him sluggish and sleepy.
He can feel the moment Seokjin falls asleep, when the tension drains out of him and he becomes a dead weight on top of Hoseok. He’s snoring softly, each breath puffing in and out of his mouth, hot air that Hoseok can feel through his t-shirt.
Hoseok turns his head and searches with his eyes until he finds everyone again. Namjoon is shouting and running parallel to the shore, shin-deep in the ocean, kicking up water as he goes.
Yoongi is standing just at the shoreline, only his feet submerged, hands on his hips as he watches, and Hoseok can imagine the fond smile taking up his entire face.
Jungkook and Taehyung are the farthest out, swimming like they’re in an olympic competition, splashing each other every other stroke.
Jimin is somewhere in the middle, up to his waist in the water, his bright laughter ringing out.
Hoseok turns back to Seokjin. He kisses the top of his head. He keeps his fingers moving through his hair, gentle and soothing, and wraps his arm a little more tightly around the older man.
Then, he closes his eyes and lets the sound of Seokjin’s snores lull him to sleep.

Sleepyhead
Title: Sleepyhead
Word Count: 2261
Summary: Nothing can wake a sick Taehyung up when he’s sleeping, except for maybe a sneeze.
Sickie: Taehyung (snz/cold/flu)
Caretakers: Jimin, plus the others
A/N: I wrote this with Taehyung as the sickie, since he was #2 in this poll, and also wrote it with Jungkook (#1 in poll) for an upcoming scene in long sickfic w/out title so stay tune for that soon!
Jimin’s legs are falling asleep.
He shifts a bit back and forth on the couch, testing how much he’s going to be able to move without waking Taehyung, who’s currently using his lap as a pillow, but Taehyung only keeps snoring and doesn’t react in the slightest.
Jimin sets his book on the arm of the couch and slowly unfolds his legs from their crossed position. He stretches one foot out in front of him, then the other, pointing his toes forward and sighing in relief at the pull in his aching muscles. He shifts again, leaning slightly to one side until he feels a satisfying pop in his back. He rolls his shoulders a few times for good measure and then carefully palms Taehyung’s forehead.
Taehyung is still warm, still feverish, but it’s to be expected. Jimin cards his hands through the sleeping man’s hair, smoothing it all back from his face until it’s fanned out around his head.
Suddenly, Taehyung’s nose twitches, and Jimin sighs because he knows what’s coming next. He reaches over and plucks two tissues from the box that’s resting between Taehyung’s arm and the back of the couch, bringing them up to Taehyung’s face as he waits for the inevitable.
Taehyung’s current snore breaks off into a half-snort, half-cough, and his eyelashes flutter. His nose twitches again, his reddened nostrils flaring wide, and then Taehyung sniffles hard enough that his nose scrunches up.
“Poor thing,” Jimin murmurs as he watches Taehyung’s struggle. “Can’t even get a nap in without needing to sneeze.”
Taehyung’s lips part and he sniffles again, the sound more insistent this time. Jimin tucks the tissues around his nose and Taehyung’s eyes open just a fraction.
“Hhng,” he whines softly, congestion stopping the sound from coming out fully.
Jimin peers down at him. “Hey, Tae. Go ahead and sneeze. I’ve got tissues.”
“Huh?” Taehyung’s brows furrow.
Jimin pats him on the chest. “Go ahead.”
“Go…” Taehyung pulls in a shaky breath. “Hhg?”
With a soft laugh, Jimin nudges the tissues against Taehyung’s nose, but the sneeze never comes. Instead, Taehyung lets out a tiny, weak cough and then blinks hard several times, trying to keep his eyes open for long enough to focus on Jimin’s face.
“That tickles,” he whispers, bringing one hand up to paw at his nose. His hand bumps Jimin’s hand and he whimpers when he can’t push the offending ticklish tissues away.
“Oh,” Jimin chuckles, quickly pulling the tissues away from his nose. “I thought you were gonna sneeze. Sorry. Go back to sleep.”
After a long pause, Taehyung tries to open his eyes again. “Don’t wanna…sleep.”
“Do you want to blow your nose first? Here, go ahead.” Jimin situates the tissues around Taehyung’s nose once again. “Blow.”
Taehyung snorts and sniffles but does not blow his nose.
Waiting patiently, Jimin pats Taehyung on the chest again. Taehyung doesn’t respond. With one hand, Jimin fishes his phone out of his pocket to text Jungkook, asking him to bring a cool compress and some other supplies.
Just when Jimin thinks Taehyung has fallen asleep again, he turns his head just slightly and sniffles wetly before he murmurs, “Jimin?”
“I’m right here. Go ahead and blow your nose.”
“Wanna go on a walk,” he murmurs instead after another full minute of silence.
“A what?” Jimin laughs. “Taehungie, dear, you can’t even stand right now. No walks today, okay?”
Taehyung doesn’t hear him. He’s already asleep again.
He doesn’t truly wake up after that for a few more hours, instead drifting in and out of consciousness, feverish and exhausted.
During that time, Jungkook brings a new fever patch and a cool compress along with a much needed cup of coffee for Jimin.
“You’re a lifesaver,” Jimin moans into his coffee cup.
“You’re gonna get sick too, you know,” is Jungkook’s reply. While he’s been very attentive to both his and Taehyung’s needs, continuously checking on both of them and bringing anything Jimin asks for, he’s worried about germs and he’s sure to let Jimin know everytime he comes near.
“I have a great immune system,” Jimin counters.
Jungkook nods knowingly and leans on the back of the couch, his hand traveling to the back of Jimin’s neck. He massages there for a few minutes, and Jimin moans because he’s been sitting on the couch for the entire day and Jungkook’s strong hands know exactly how to find the knots in the neck.
When he’s done, Jungkook reaches down and briefly runs his fingers through Taehyung’s hair in a comforting gesture, but he’s quick to pull away.
“I’m gonna go wash my hands,” he says. “And go breathe some fresh air. Text me if you need anything.”
“Will do,” Jimin replies, smiling gratefully.
Taehyung doesn’t move a muscle, staying sound asleep throughout the entire exchange.
It’s a little while later when Seokjin brings Taehyung’s next dose of medicine out to the living room.
“Has he been this warm this entire time?” He asks Jimin, hand on Taehyung’s forehead.
“No.” Jimin shakes his head. “It’s just in the past fifteen minutes or so that he’s been pretty hot. It’s definitely time for more meds.”
Seokjin slides his hand down to cup Taehyung’s cheek. Taehyung’s eyelashes flutter, but he doesn’t wake, and Seokjin just doesn’t have the heart to wake him up. “He still has fifteen more minutes until he’s due for another dose,” he reasons, pressing the backs of his fingers to the side of Taehyung’s warm neck with a frown. “I’ll go grab him some water first.”
Seokjin brings water and then leaves after about ten minutes, promising to return soon but letting Jimin have the task of waking Taehyung up.
“I just don’t have the heart to wake him,” is his excuse when he looks at Taehyung’s flushed, sleeping face.
“I understand.”
After Seokjin leaves, Jimin realizes he’s starting to sweat under the warmth of Taehyung’s body. He also needs a bathroom break, so he eases himself off the couch and stretches his arms above his head. Taehyung snuffles but otherwise remains asleep. When he returns from the bathroom, it takes Jimin another five minutes to properly coax Taehyung awake, and he only stays awake long enough to let Jimin prop him upright and tip the medicine into his mouth, and then he swallows one single sip of water before he’s out again.
Taehyung is still snoring away in Jimin’s lap when Hoseok and Yoongi return home from their long meeting.
As soon as Hoseok is through the door, Jimin can hear him loudly explaining something to Yoongi, boisterous and full of energy like usual. When Yoongi spots Taehyung asleep on the couch, though, he puts a finger to his lips. It takes Hoseok a second to see him, and when he realizes he spins around.
“Oh! Sorry,” he whispers when he sees Taehyung and Jimin on the couch.
Jimin just smiles and goes back to his book, tightening his arm around Taehyung protectively. Taehyung doesn’t even stir.
When Namjoon comes to find Taehyung, he’s still sleeping in Jimin’s embrace.
“I was thinking of making him a doctor appointment,” Namjoon tells Jimin, keeping his voice low. He settles on the arm of the couch and reaches down, rubbing his hand up and down Taehyung’s arm. “I don’t really want to do it without his input but I haven’t been able to catch him awake all day.”
Jimin chuckles and sets his book down. “I say go ahead and make it. Earlier he was agreeable to the idea of going to get shots and maybe an IV if he wasn’t feeling better.
Namjoon nods. “Okay. Will do. We can always change it later.” Glancing down at Taehyung, fondness mixed with a bit of worry in his expression, he sighs. “And how are you feeling?”
“So far, so good.” Jimin gives a thumbs up. He reaches down and brushes his fingers over Taehyung’s forehead. “Hopefully I’ll avoid catching this. He’s been having a rough time.”
Taehyung murmurs something in his sleep and Jimin draws his hand back. Taehyung remains asleep, though, and soon he goes back, cupping his face and rubbing his thumb back and forth across his fever-hot cheek.
“I’ll text you the details in case you want to share with Tae when he wakes up and I'm not here,” Namjoon says, and then he leaves to make the phone call.
Jimin picks up his phone and sees that he has three texts from Jungkook, all asking if he wants something: want me to pick up more tissues at the store? and want to go to the movies on saturday if tae is better? and I’m by the cafe do u want another coffee?
He’s replying to the texts– yes, sounds fun, and YES PLEASE– when he hears a sound across the room.
“Oh.” Yoongi’s standing in the space between the couch and the kitchen, a cup of steaming hot tea cradled between his hands. “I didn’t realize he was still sleeping.”
“Poor thing is so tired,” Jimin confirms.
Yoongi walks over and sets the tea on the coffee table and then disappears back into the kitchen. A short while later, he returns with two more mugs, one for himself and one for Jimin.
They sit and sip on their tea. Taehyung sleeps on. Even when they’re done, and Jimin is ready to get back to his book, Taehyung is still asleep, snoring away with his head in Jimin’s lap.
“I’ll make him more when he wakes up,” Yoongi says with a small smile. He picks up the mug, freezing when Taehyung suddenly sniffles.
Jimin looks down and sees Taehyung’s eyelashes fluttering. He reaches down and rubs his chest, waiting for him to fall back asleep or wake up. Yoongi sets the mug back down on the coffee table in case it’s the latter, and Taehyung’s lips part with a small whimper.
“Hey,” Jimin says, rubbing his chest some more. “It’s okay, Tae. You can go back to sleep if you want.”
Taehyung’s eyebrows furrow. “Nnndhh.”
“Shh, you’re okay.”
Taehyung’s nostrils flare, and Jimin’s eyes widen. “Oh!” He quickly grabs a tissue and holds it up to Taehyung’s face. Nose twitching, Taehyung sucks in a breath, and then his eyes flutter open only to slam shut in the next second as a massive sneeze barrels out of him.
The sneeze is so loud that it makes Jimin’s ears ring and Yoongi, despite having seen it coming, clasps a hand to his chest in surprise.
A minute later, Namjoon, Hoseok and Seokjin all come out to check on Taehyung.
“Sounds like someone is awake,” Namjoon says with a smile.
“That was some sneeze, Tae,” Hoseok comments. “Bless you!”
Jimin and Yoongi chuckle and watch as Taehyung sniffles and paws at his nose, eyes half closed.
“Still waking up,” Namjoon amends his earlier statement.
There’s a sudden loud knock on the door– it sounds more like a kick– and Seokjin hurries over to check the peephole. He opens the door immediately to reveal Jungkook standing there with two trays filled with various to-go beverages.
“Sorry,” he grins. “I didn’t have any hands to knock.” He looks past Seokjin and spots Taehyung sitting up on the couch, hair sticking up in all directions as he scrubs at his red nose. “Oh, shit, did I wake him up?”
Seokjin shakes his head. “Nope, he just woke up a few minutes ago.” He takes one of the trays and carries it into the living room.
Jungkook passes out iced coffees to everyone, and a cup of hot tea to Taehyung. “The barista said it’s sweet, but good,” he says, and Taehyung smiles blearily up at him before taking a sip. He still looks half asleep, and a minute later he’s handing Jimin his cup and sliding back into a reclining position.
“Anyone want to keep me and Taehyungie company?” Jimin asks the room. “We can put on a movie?”
Jungkook nods and chooses the seat furthest from the pair. He pulls his knees to his chest, sipping on his iced coffee and giving a pleased hum.
Taehyung is asleep again before the movie even starts. They keep the volume low, but Taehyung is a dead weight against Jimin, snoring softly and not so much as flinching even when one of them laughs or the movie gets loud. As the movie is ending, though, he moans softly, his eyelashes fluttering. Jimin runs his fingers through his hair and smiles down at him.
“You waking up, sleepyhead?” He asks.
Taehyung’s face scrunches up. He doesn’t open his eyes, but he rolls over halfway until he’s on his side, nuzzling his nose against Jimin’s stomach. He sniffles, a low whine in his throat when Jimin pats his hip.
“Let’s get you to your bed, hmm?”
Very slowly, Taehyung opens one eye, then the other. He peers up at Jimin and hunches forward like he’s trying to curl up into a ball. He starts to move one hand up towards his face, but it smacks into Jimin’s elbow. He whimpers congestedly in frustration.
And then, he sneezes.
It’s not particularly loud, as far as a Taehyung-sneeze goes, but it is aimed directly at Jimin, completely uncovered, and forceful enough that it shakes the entire couch.
For a moment, there’s nothing but silence.
“Wow,” Jungkook eventually says from across the room. He has a blanket wrapped around his entire head and body like he thinks it might help shield him from the germs. “Ohh, yeah. You are so gonna get sick, Jimin.”
