So as you all know I took a break from doing gyaru for about 5 months, but it was like I forgot how to do gyaru entirely!!! So that is why the title for this post is:

Godlike gyaru to half-****ed gyaru?? What the heck even is that!!

I’ve totally upgraded my style since so let me take you on the ride there 🚗💨🌍

Bukunmi’s Desperate Venture to Be Kanpeki Gal Comic

Bukunmi woke up disoriented and looked in the mirror to see her style powers fading away from her in horror. Magazines began to disintegrate and the brand clothing started to turn translucent and then to nothing. “Someone, ANYONE, help me stop this!!!”

She quickly grabbed her makeup bag and stared in her EGG mirror and said “I will revive my power right here and now!!”

Okay enough with being over dramatic tho, I’ll take you through everything I did from start to finish. Stay until the end for the final look ♥︎

So the first thing I did was compare my current make to my make from around a year ago and I noticed one major thing.

Make from 2021

Due to sunscreen and it being winter, I had gotten lighter, and my light concealer I use for my eyes blended in with my skin. So there is less contrast. It was the same makeup but due to not being as tan it looked different.

After this I compared with some of my favourite EGG models to see further what the issue was

Thanks sm much for the recent support I’ve gotten?! (◯Δ◯∥) I feel like my response to my most recent ask was pretty characteristic of who I am as a person; very much about spreading around good vibes and love to everyone. And I know I've said it so many times, BUT more than anything, I appreciate all the fab people who follow me, leave comments, reblogs, and leave asks ❤️

I feel a little bad tho… σ(^_^;) I was working on some posts but fell behind and now it’s exam season (-”-; I geuss I really am getting busier each year... I might need to do a re-eval on how I gonna proceed with blogging after everything wraps up.

Thanks so much for this comment💖 I am proud to be a medical student and it’s not just me. All medical students literally never shut up about how they are medical students. It’s because once you are in medicine, it consumes your life. This is because it is an intensive course. Probably one of the most intense you can take. All your time is devoted to your degree. You eat, breath, sleep medicine. Even humour becomes medical based. You are right that I’m not unique, down to the fact that I openly state and talk about being a medical student.

But I mainly talk about fashion and my life in general here. Perhaps, you’re jealous? Or frustrated with yourself? Everyone takes life at their own pace, and if you put your mind and energy to it, you can achieve what you want achieve. It’s never too late and it’s always okay to fail. And if you are successful, congrats. I’m sure you’ve earned it as well. Xox pumpkin 💓

Christmas Break and the Dread of School... Generally

Hey pumpkins~

I hope everyone had a wonderful break!!! Is it too late to say that www Anyways, I finally stopped procrastinating and finished le post. Yay!!! Also alot of you have said you like my Improving in Gyaru series, so if there is a topic you'd like me to write on just let me know! Now on with the post.....

I don’t know if it’s because I’m a medical student but as soon as it’s November 1st, I was officially counting the days until break would start. So when break arrived I was soooo excited (+ I got to go back to Canada). But then, since you’re normally so busy, having no work feels so unusual and by the time you adjust, its already time to go back to school again… (;ᴗ;) This is what I got up to over the break ^.~

For the first few days, I just chilled for a bit and kinda adjusted to the house that my family was staying in within our neighbourhood (note: the basement at my house burnt down last semester, so everything is getting renovated and the things that can be cleaned are in the process of being cleaned >_< ). My family then went on a road trip to a nearby town where my dad works (though we had to wait until my brother arrived, also an international student).

When we finally got there after 7 hours of driving, I honestly couldn’t go out much because my younger brother was finishing his IA’s and my older brother was studying for his last semester. If you have strict parents then YOU KNOW you can’t really go out when the atmosphere is like that σ(￣、￣〃) I did do some work of my own like plan a little for the step 1 (USMLE) and look over the courses I have to take this semester. It was break after all tho, so I watched some movies and tv show I didn’t have the chance to watch when school was on. A few days after new years we drove back and I had a bunch of fun. I went to the theatres and watched Avatar and the new Wakanda movie (they were released in exam season so I couldn’t go watch them), went shopping, did a bunch of other fun stuff, and I got my hair braided to go back to school!

Do the people around you know what gyaru is? Everyone I know can recognize other j-fashion styles like lolita and decora but a lot have never heard of gyaru even from anime :/ Like you could be decked head to toe in d.i.a. and they would think you're dressing like Jersey Shore lol

Haha this is a great question 🤧

The reason why decora and Lolita are so well known (just my guesses) is likely due to a strong large community within the west (lolita in particular) from the ~2010s, along with Japanese celebrities/influencers that went viral for some time in the West (like Kyary PP or even Haruka Kurebayashi). And who could forget the “harajuku boom” (also) of the 2010s (Nicki Minaj, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, etc.) Those are my guesses as to why it’s that way but don’t quote me on this lmao.

TikTok has been a great way of popularizing gyaru style (for better or… worse) since 2020. It’s say in terms of awareness this is likely the best it’s ever been!! However, like any alt fashion, people think you’re weird for dressing that way, and like any j-fashion, people think your weird for dressing that way. As you’ve stated tho, due to similarities with 2000s fashion (NOT THE SAME THO) people tend to be more okay with this.

So the answer in short (TLDR):

From my experience, if they are into Japanese culture and/or fashion, do cosplay, or are from east asia, those people tend to be aware of what gyaru is.

The people who don’t know nor understand gyaru tend to be the following:

People from rural areas

Non-alternative people

Members of the older generations

People who are not knowledgeable about Japanese culture

Anime/manga fans with light knowledge on Japanese culture

What I always do when explaining to people who don’t understand, is just take the time to explain it throughly. If a comparison needs to be made, I’ll compare to goth ONLY BECAUSE they are very present in cartoons/animations as well but in the west. Goths are in cartoons but they are actual people with a subculture that has history; Just like gyaru does!

Hello pumpkins ~

How are y'all? As my 3rd year of med school and my 3rd year of gyaru has started (galversery was August 16), I would like to set some goals for myself since if you want to achieve, it helps to clearly visualize what it is you want to achieve. If I’m being real, I was supposed to make this post a few weeks ago, but I’ve been so busy

Well I have an announcement but first… 

THANKS SO MUCH FOR 200 FOLLOWS!! 

I always say this but I just sorta started this blog as a way to catalogue the events in my life (bc I’m kinda forgetful) and I didn’t need anyone to read my content necessarily, just writing it was enough. It does feel so special though that so many people enjoy my blogs (˃ ⌑ ˂ഃ ) Thanks again everyone

I’m leaving gyaru officially.

Did I getcha www What I mean is that I am not going to refer to myself as explicitly a gyaru anymore. And I’m officially leaving the community. Kinda? The things going on in the community (not just recently if I’m being honest) since I’ve joined make me so embarrassed to just be in it despite me not even really being close with other foreign gyaru’s. I’m still going to do gyaru style, I just won’t be calling myself a gyaru if that makes sense. So more accurately I’m rebranding myself. I also hate just confining myself to one style so I’m gonna try and experiment with that abit this year as well. I’ve always kinda just been quiet and keeping to myself in this community, which really does make this decision and transition simple for me to execute.

Anyways without ado let's start with my goals:

Socail life goals

1. Talk only to my friends who have shown that they are good people. 

I made some friends within the past year, good and bad, but I choose as always to keep only positives in my life. If you have shown to me that you cannot be trusted, I understand you and I move on. If you were involved in any capacity with my ex-friend group drama in any capacity, it's done. We've had our good times, but as always it's time for me to move onto better things. Whether that be with my other friends or alone. I will be happy regardless.

2. Make sure to make time for the people that matter to me.

Despite how busy things may get, I should try and do something with my friends weekly or subweekly. Hanging out, even if it's to study together, shows you want to be close with that person and that you value that relationship. We all have our responsibilities too, so I will try my best for this one.

Career goals

I've already sorta planned/made steps for this, but regardless let's go!

1. No resits

I was lucky to not have any resits this time around however I have more responsibilities this year that I have taken on. Resits are exhausting and deplete your time and energy. Luckily the weighting is neutral, but this is to be avoided at all costs.

2. Be in a club/society

Because it’s good to have extracurriculars. I want to join the choir this year and am already the secretary for the nutrition society. I’m also in the innovations subcommittee for the surgical society atm. I’m gonna try my best to do it all.

3. Research 

I want to try and find a research project I’m interested and be guaranteed a summer project within this fall semester. It’s not mandatory but obviously it would be great to do one. God help me because am I gonna be busy this semester（ ;  ; ）

4. USMLE/ MCCQE preparation

I want to do step 1 before 4th year. I also would like  to start preparing from christmas but this will be the hardest thing I will do. I can do it tho. I have endless drive and willpower, so I just need to pace myself and to do well. And also. DO. NOT. PROCRASTINATE.

Fashion/subculture/SNS goals

1. Learn more parapara and post tiktok’s!

I know a few routines already but I’d like to learn even more this year! As a medical student I’m kinda busy but I want to learn some more this year as well.

2. Growing my TikTok 

Honestly, I slightly regret the time I devoted to growing my IG versus how that could have been used to grow my TikTok. Hopefully this is gonna be successful. At least by my own standards.

And that is all U^ｪ^U

Honestly, each year I set these goals so I at least have a clear direction of where I want to direct myself into the future. And even if I don’t end up completing my goals, I make some progress which is just as good to me. Improving in Gyaru: Choose a Favourite Style & Model

 Thanks so much for the love on my last gyaru advice post! It’s different than what I normally post so I’m glad you guys liked it (@~▽~@) I decided to do another one on gyaru inspo so hopefully y’all enjoy this one as well!  I am posting this on my blogger (please follow my new blog teehee) so If you want to see the full post, please click on the link at the bottom of this post!

So today I’m going to be talking about choosing a favourite style & model for improving your look! As you probably know, there are many styles of gal and even more styles that can be combined with gyaru make to make a unique gal style. There are so many options that look good so how am I supposed to choose?? Starting out this is true, which is why if you aren't sure of what kind of make and fashion you like on yourself yet, experimenting for a bit with the ones you're interested in can help clear some confusion.

    However once we have gotten past that, majorly focusing on certain styles or even a specific vibe can help cement the foundation of the look you want to go for. For this I recommend finding a specific model with either the make and/or co*de style that appeals to you and just copying what you see! In fact this is part of the reason why gals buy gyaru magazines in the first place; for make/fashion inspo. I personally would recommend finding their blog (altho if they had a crooz blog it’s gone) since you can find lots of their photos on there. Now before we head into any examples, let me warn you what not to do:

1. DO NOT USE A GYARU MAGAZINE'S GENERAL VIBE AS INSPO 2. DO NOT USE "NATURAL" LOOKING GYARU AS INSPO STARTING OUT

    I’d like to preface that there is nothing wrong with doing this, but for a beginner this is not helpful to your improvement likely. Especially with the second one about natural gyaru looks, these may just end up looking only slightly gyaru. The issue of slightly gyaru is that people will not be able to tell you are gyaru unless you tell them. Also the rebellious founding principle of gyaru is to reject societal beauty standards and do the style you like the best unapologetically. Sometimes doing a natural gyaru look is an attempt to fit into societal beauty standards while trying to branch away from it. Ironically. At the end of the day though it's up to you what you choose to do.

The Suite Life of Sola (A life update lol(˃̴̀ᄇॢ˂̴́ ∗))

How have y’all been? I hope y'all are having a super duper hot gal summer rn!!! Stress was high with exams and there was literally so much material to cover, it was high key disturbing（πーπ）Despite that, as you know, my life stays entertaining so here is what I've been up to so far σ(ﾟｰ ^*)

So basically on Tuesday, it was my friends birthday and they were having a party at a pub near campus and I did prinks with 3 of my friends before heading down. On the way there, 3 more people joined us and we just had a nice time walking down to the bar. Anyways around 10:30 we started to head back and I was dead tired. I was pretty glad I went because with possible exception of one person, everyone who I talked to or even got to meet were great. It also seemed like the birthday girl had a good time so always a plus(｀ω´ )
