The soft caress against his cheek coaxed the angel to lean against it, smiling wider with half-lidded eyes. Lucid enjoys when Adam does this. It is such a warm and gentle touch, something he never thought he yearns for…

However the blue seraphim’s eyes go wide and round at Adam’s words. Lucid had heard plenty of times when people shelter him that it’s for his own good, that he is too at risk of being harmed. But that first part…

Starry tears fill Lucid’s eyes, sucking in a breath. The noise he makes is between a warble and a whimper, gripping his smaller hand over Adam’s.

“Y…you m-mean that? I’m…I’m important to you?”

His hands gently squeeze at Lucid's shoulders. Fuck, it takes everything for Adam to stay put, to keep holding the angel at a short distance. He's so much softer. So much more curious. So much like how I used to be, at one point.

One hand loosens its grip and moves to Lucid's cheek, careful to keep his claws away from his skin. “...'Cause you're important to me. I‒ I shouldn't shelter you so much, but I― I don't know what I'd do if you got hurt.”

The look on Lucid’ face was one of unease, leaning away from his predecessor. The wild look in his serpentine eyes and devious grin was even more unsettling than the tale he spun. Christ, it was like the Very Hungry Plant all over again, but worse somehow.

“I-I doubt it. That’s just an old wives tale. Nothing real to support that.”

The spooky voice and sharp, teasing grin from Lucifer certainly made the baby’s eyes widen. Sat in his lap, Lil Lucid stared up at his father figure as he puppeted a campfire story of sorts with golden magic manifestations. Silently, the little one turned his attention back to the big bad “monster” that had eaten the naive little creatures of the story. The tot leaned forward to bap at the monster, swirling the gold magic to disperse it. No! No scary monster! It wasn’t “out there” anymore now that it was slain by the brave babu!

Seeing Lucifer’s open palm extend towards him, Lucid blinks his bright blue eyes. Candy? Certainly not any he’s seen before. He takes them with a soft “thank you” and unwraps one. Placing it in his mouth, Lucid ponders the flavor for only a second before making a pleased noise. Oh, he likes these candies very much! The blue angel unwraps another candy to join the first, pocketing the rest for later.

“They’re really good! What are they?”
