at work rn so I don't have time to expand a ton, but I think a lot of e-begging, like the "hi random stranger, I'm a [insert laundry list of identities here] and need money, can you help out?" is from isolation. they don't have people in their lives who know them that can help for whatever reason, so they go to strangers and use their identities to garner sympathy. and if you say no, it becomes less a question of "do you want to/can you donate" and more about "do you support X marginalized group?" it's a weird dynamic to create, and I'm not really sure how to react to it. I feel bad they have no one else to ask, and idk there's a larger ramble here about how we have an epidemic of isolation and unhealthy communities creating this feedback loop of moralizing/politicizing every action based on demographic rather than forming personal connections and building a legitimate support network.
