“Every single day, every night before we go on stage, I get on my fucking knees and I pray to God and I pray to uplift the people that have come to see us play and to love them and give the best that I can to them. That’s my life’s mission.
But mostly, more than anything, the burning intense desire that is inside of me to play music, it has not diminished in the slightest. That has only deepened as time has gone on. When we are hitting it, when we are really inside the groove, when we’re on, I’m lost, man. And in that moment, I am truly free of everything and I am truly one with everything.”
Flea during a perform live on stage in The Netherlands, 1990.

[Talking about composing “Wet Sand”, Stadium Arcadium Album documentary.]   “I don’t wanna tell them what I was singing when I was singing the melody in that section. But, he [Anthony] really want to know. So, he forced me to say what I actually sing and I almost said “Well, I got a lot of page of lyrics. You wanna see?”

“They gave me one of the best night of my entire life.”
It was my first concert of Red Hot Chili Peppers. After a long time, my dream comes true. I sang loud, I jumped, I screamed, I laughed, I danced and I cried. The audio (it’s a little extract from the live) represents how music can be so powerful and beautiful to share with everyone happily. That was a crazy and hot day in Rome. We waited ‘Chilis down the sun like bricklayers for most of eight hours but, a the end, we had ninety minuets of pure energy and joy. They were in great shape, the kicks ass as always and we became a huge family for one night. Our voices were a disaster, we sang too bad, but I hope you understand the excitement and the euphoria of the moment. I’ll pay gold for to be in the same place and to live this incredible moment like one week ago. They still rock and they gave me one of the best night of my entire life. Thanks Red Hot Chili Peppers for this huge happiness.

Happy 15th anniversary to By the Way!
“By the Way is very honest, raw, emotional music. It’s a very dynamic, rich and lush album. Probably the best collection of Chili Peppers songs we’ve ever put out.” — Chad Smith talking about the album, 2002. “Like Californication, writing By the Way has been one of the happiest times of my life. It’s been a chance to just keep on writing better songs and improving my guitar playing. I know what Anthony and Chad and Flea have said but I think of it more as a band effort. I do put a lot of energy into everything, sure, but I don’t underestimate that the real energy comes from the four of us. That’s number one over any of our individual efforts.”  — John Frusciante about composing the album, 2002.

“I actually don’t think I ever met him in person. I rode in an elevator with him one time because he lived directly next door to a friend of mine many, many years ago... And I remember one time he just got in the elevator and I didn’t say anything (laughs). But he was an enormous influence - in 1991, I was 11, so all that music of that time was huge for me. And then to play that song that I played that night, I was thinking about that song and thinking about how 25 years ago, I used to lay on my bedroom floor and listen to that song over and over and over again. I feel like I could talk more about him... it’s just really heartbreaking. He was fantastic and he meant a lot to me, that’s all I can say.”    — Josh Klinghoffer talking about Chris Cornell and the performance, 2017.

I got the combination of the two. My dad had the passion and intensity. My mom had the ear and pitch. I was sure I could do the dream they once had.

“Say goodbye my love, I can see it in your soul. Say goodbye my love, Thought that I could make you whole. Let your lover sail, Death was made to fail. Babe I know love is a funny thing, Born to die in the eternal spring.”

“I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. I better stop now before I start crying, Go off to sleep in the sunshine. I don't want to see the day when it's dying. She's a sight to see, She's good to me But I'm already somebody's baby. She's a pretty thing And she knows everything, But I'm already somebody's baby. You don't deserve to be lonely But those drugs you've got won't make you feel better. Pretty soon you'll find it's the only, Little part of your life you're keeping together. I'm nice to you, I could make it through But you're already somebody's baby. I could make you smile, If you stayed a while But how long will you stay with me, baby?”

Music has always carried me through times of loneliness. So, when I make music, I like it to make people who listen to it feel like they have a friend who reveals something personal to them, rather than trying to be like a God upon a pedestal.

John Frusciante has always been one of my favorite guitar players which is strange, because I play in the same band as him.

“One of my favourite shots of John Frusciante from 2004. I think it really captures a special moment of vulnerability and strength. He had been crying in the interview shortly before and you can still see his tears on his t-shirt.”  — Scarlet Page on John Frusciante. - 2016.
