moments in movies that altered my brain chemistry

Movies, and films have definitely have impact on us. Hence, we have our own set of favorite movies that we relate to, we cry on, and we love. Now, here are my own set of favorite scenes from my favorite movies that changed the trajectory of my life, and altered my brain chemistry.

Laurie's confession to Jo, Little Women, 2019 In this scene, Laurie confesses his love to Jo, saying that he can't love anyone else and he can't live without her. But Jo, who doesn't felt the same way as Laurie, rejects him. A very emotional and pressuring scene, the exchange of lines and arguments between the two characters are overwhelming you would have been convinced that it was real. Laurie was halfway screaming and crying, and Jo was stopping Laurie from getting mad. Laurie wants to be married with Jo, settle and make a good family with Jo but, Jo only wants her writing to be successful. Jo wants to love Laurie but she can't, as her line said "and we would be unhappy, and we'd wish we had done it sooner and everything would be horrid". Pertaining on how they would quarrel in their relationship since their interests are far more contrary to each other. Little Women is a movie that was released in 2019, adapting the iconic book from classic literature Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. This coming-of-age book talks about how four little women have to struggle from being poor, into them having a precious school. It was set in America, after the civil war ended. Each of the sisters has their unique set of characteristics and talents, but also unique flaws in them. The oldest sister Meg, has a potential to be an actress and has an exceptional talent in acting in a drama. Contrary to Jo, she has a very polite and lady-like personality. The second sister Jo, has an exceptional talent in writing novels and poems. Jo has a tomboyish behavior, and adventurous mindset. The third sister is Beth, who has a gifted talent in music and playing different kinds of instruments. She is a shy, sickly sister. In the first novel, she dies because of sickness. The youngest Amy, who has a creative and artistic mind and also has a talent in painting and art. She is self-centered and spoiled, since she is the youngest sister. Last is Laurie, which is a very bad-mood, bored person. He is a very wealthy man, but offers to help the March family. The movie was starred by Timothee Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, and many more.

The rock scene, Everything Everywhere All At Once, 2022

This genius scene, and the movie overall, embodied the title Everything Everywhere All At Once. The previous scene was a series of our protagonist, Evelyn, being in a series of multiverses altogether, settling for the space-time madness. The scene was too messy and very chaotic since it is a flash of all the universes that Evelyn is in all at once. However, the rock scene was the calm after the storm, it is the ending of a climax. After all the madness that have shown in the previous scene. This rock scene was a quiet scene, no lines were said, just subtitles saying the dialogue of the characters. "every new discovery reminds us that we are small and stupid", which pertains in humans being too big and too good. A rock is a metaphor, of our need on resting, our need on having life with such business and pride, that we almost forgot the people around us, of what we truly are as a person. The pressures are too much to burden, and we need to be nobody, since who are we anyways. The movie features the theory of multiverse, and the Asian trauma centers around the film. Pressures and miscommunications with your parents is the main theme of the film. The characters of the movie is portrayed by Michelle Yeoh, or Evelyn Wang in the movie. Evelyn is a middle aged woman who carries the burden of her sick father Gong Gong, who once disowned her in loving her husband Waymond Wang. She also has a daughter named Joy, or in real life, Stephanie Hsu. Joy is once an adorable little kid but, pressures of being an Asian only child has led her into having a distant relationship with her mom.

The horror shift, Parasite, 2019

This scene solidified Parasite's win at the Oscars. The first hour of the movie was like any other. It was a family of con-artists, who made their way to the house of a rich family, and tries to steal their house. But in this scene, it features a horrifying and spine-chilling shift in genre. From comedy/drama, to thriller/mystery, this movies unveils a backstory that is very scary. The movie also portrays symbolism of hierarchy in status, the empirical difference on the poor and the rich, and how money can truly change someone's belief system. After this horror shift scene, the poor family escaped from the rich family's home to their own home. During their escape, there has been a lot of stairs just to get them home and they are all going down. The stairs is a metaphor on how the poor family is going down to their true status, going down to the hierarchy. The family lived in the basement and there was a strong flood that filled their house with water. The next day, the rich family was grateful since the rain was so strong last night the skies were very clear, this shows a clear comparison on the conditions of both families. One thankful, and one who lost their own home. This was the first Korean film to win Best Picture at the Oscar Awards.

The crying cult scene, Midsommar, 2019

A very disturbing and creepy scene, and the movie overall, this scene features Dani, crying because her boyfriend cheated on her with some cult practice. It is a practice in the cult that a man must offer himself as a sacrifice to a woman by making love to her. What happens is, the sacrifice was Dani's boyfriend. As Dani discovered it, the girls on the cult was easy to sympathize with her. This scene feels very disturbing is the fact that, the other girls were sympathizing with her in the form of crying with her. But, if we look at real-life events, this scene is pretty much disturbing if you knew the context and backstory. The context is, cults work this way, they manipulate everything. Dani was at the most emotional and vulnerable state at this time. Then the cult will bombard her with love and support, sympathize with you but in reality, they are brainwashing and manipulating you. Making you feel welcome on them creates a sense that you are welcome on them, that they are the ones who will know your pain, that they will treat you like a family. This scares me on how they accurately portray how cults really work.

best albums and female artists that shaped gen z

Albums are a topic that has become a very controversial, since this can reveal people's music taste, bad or not. Albums, on the literal, are just collection and compilation of songs sold for the people to listen. But albums are also a form of art, they are a part of a story, whether for the artist, for the composer, or for the writer. Some people have their favorite albums that they cannot live without.

Norman Fucking Rockwell!, and Lana Del Rey Arguably the best album of the 21st century, this album has been the best of them all. The first line of the first song of the album, the title track, "Goddamn, man child, You f*** me so good that I almost said, "I love you"", has sent her fans to heavens. The song talks about how she loves a man even though his imperfections are showing. Perhaps the most popular song on the album, "Doin' Time", is a cover of Sublime's original. The song has garnered more than 300 million streams on Spotify alone. Whilst the best song on the albums, as per fans would say, is the fan-favorite, "Happiness is a butterfly". The most iconic line, "If he's a serial killer, then what's the worst that can happen to a girl who's already hurt, I'm already hurt", has sent fans to their sad girl mode. The main producers of this album are Jack Antonoff, who also produced some of the best albums of this century, such as Lorde's Solar Power, Taylor Swift's evermore, and many more. Del Rey's fandom has been always been known for jokingly treating Lana Del Rey a God. Some of her fans was found praising her as if she was a God. Also, her fandom have been trending last year in the video-sharing app TikTok, for creating the Lana Del Rey cult, which influences people by spamming comment sections with comments such as, "⚠️✝️LANA DEL REY IS COMING✝️⚠️SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM BEFORE ITS TOO LATE✝️⚠️LANA LOVES YOU ALL.". Lana Del Rey has always been known for her ever-changing reinvention of her aesthetics in music. Her albums have different euphoria and feel onto it. For example, her second album Ultraviolence, features darkness and melancholia. Then her album Lust of Life, which is a complete opposite of the previous album. Now features sublimity and simplicity. Her lyrics are also top-tier and monumental. She has always been a subject in comparing her work into Shakespeare's, which proved her mastery in poetry. Even an abrupt entrance to the realm of indie and folk genre, Swift has always been a superstar. Her reinvention did not made her lose fans but instead, she gained a ton. folklore has debuted on Spotify in its first day garnering a total of 80.6 million streams. The first song on her album, "the 1", has shocked many of Swifties since most of her songs starts with Pop. The line "but we were something don't you think so?", pertains into grieving a little bit, but moving forward and moving on. Perhaps the highlight of the album is the three songs, cardigan, august, and betty which symbolizes the love triangle in the album named Betty, Augustine, and James. Cardigan was the point of view of Betty, the original and righteous woman, worthy for the love of James. The line "and when I felt like I was an old cardigan, under someone's bed, you put me on and said I was your favorite", in this sense, The old cardigan was her, pertaining to the old love she had, the old relationship. Betty felt like James was cheating on her, using her like she was nothing. The song august is the point of view of Augustine, the other woman. The line "to live for the hope of it all, cancel plans just in case you'd call, and say meet me behind the mall", refers to the false hope and false trust of Augustine for James, the dedication of her for their secret love. The last line has a double meaning, it is meet me behind them all. The last song is betty, which is James's point of view in the relationship. The line "in the garden would you trust me, if I told you it was just a summer thing?" is the contrary on august "so much for summer love", meaning James didn't give an importance to Augustine. There are other songs in the album which has a message on people's mental health. Songs such as mirrorball, and this is me trying, has made fans cry. Swift's evolution in music is very rare, which led her into being a pop phenomena. Her country roots have led her into transitioning in pop, to folk, which has a distinct characteristics, very different from each other. Her different issues and feuds that almost plotted her downfall, but instead, she is one of the prominent artist in terms of longevity. One characteristic of her music is its relatability to its listeners, her target audience can be teens who had experienced their first heartbreak, which can be found in her album Fearless, or that depressing and heart-wrenching heartbreak, which can be found in her album Red, and finally finding the one, which can be found in her album Lover. Melodrama, and Lorde "I'm 19 and I'm on fire" When it comes to music for young adults and people who are suffering in existential crisis, then this album is for you. If music is art, then Melodrama is a painting. It is a completed canvas with its bombarding colors and hues resonating sadness, but also happiness. Feelings that we experience when we are in confusion in the grand scheme of life. This album has the highest critic score by a female artists with a whopping ninety-one percent. The first song on the album "Green Light" has the elements of anger with the fast paced beats of the song, and showed in the lyrics of the first verse, "she thinks you love the beach, you're such a damn liar". The song tells about moving on, but looking at the lens of resentment and anger. Perhaps the best song on the album is "Supercut", which means reminiscing and getting back to the films of the relationship, then getting back to the reality. The song are for people who has not moved on in the relationship, contrary to the first song Green Light. The line "all the moments I play in the dark, wild and fluorescent come home to my heart" pertaining to a flashback of her past love, the love that she can't come back to. The last song of the album is "Perfect Places". The phrase perfect places means even in the darkest moment of our lives, where we had lost the compass and the steering wheel of our lives, remember that this is just a period of time and someday, we will find a life that is very happy, free from all the problems. Lorde is one of the artists who was popular in her debut era. Her debut album Pure Heroine was one of the most acclaimed album of this century, and her smash-hit song Royals, is also one of the best songs by a female artist, and she did that when she was 15 years old. Her latest album Solar Power settles more on calming and meditative music, contrary to her past two albums, which is sonically loud and banging.

We all struggle in putting on clothes, GOOD LOOKING AND MATCHING CLOTHES. Building a base on your closet will not only make your wardrobe cool but, miss and match will be more easier. Now let's be honest, clothes are kind of expensive especially, when these are just basic type of clothing. But, think of closet essentials as the scaffolding in having a good and wearable wardrobe. Lastly, as much as possible, shop at your local thrift stores.

Not those basic skinny blue jeans, I am talking about baggy jeans, high cut jeans, flare jeans, straight cut jeans, Levis 501s, and many more. Finding the perfect jeans that fits you is like finding your true love, or finding a large sum of money on a street. Finding your type of jeans are RARE. Now, let us look at the criteria on creating your perfect jean. First, high rise jeans or jeans that are above your waist is very suitable for people who are short, since these type of jeans when tucked in can always accentuate your hips and torso and gives the illusion that you look taller. However, you should look for jeans that fits right for you. When jeans are too long for you, the ends can be cramped up and wrinkly on your ankles, and it creates a very messy and overwhelming look. But if the jeans are too short, the ankles are shown which can create a very awkward look and it kind of looks like it doesn't fits for you. Second, the type and the overall structure and condition of jeans should also be considered. Jeans that fits right onto your crotch, or makes you uncomfortable on your crotch can rip easily with a single move. Finding a jean with a very relaxed stretch on the crotch can create a very comfortable experience. Now, these are the brands that I would recommend for y'all:

If we think of jeans, they are the ones that is iconic in this sense. Levis 501s are the best when it comes to jeans. They create a very clean cut look, and they can also last long and very comfortable when wearing.

Jeans from Guess also are an icon when it comes to jeans. Their jeans are far more stretchable than any other. So pro tip, buy a jean that is one size smaller than your size, since jeans from guess have a percentage of spandex on it.

These jeans from Wrangler is perfect when you want to buy skinny jeans. They hone your body and gives that fit and fun that you want for a jean.

RIPPED JEAN SHORTS These short are perfect for going to the beach, since it gives off that casual, but at the same time, sophisticated look. Now, since sweaters are long sleeved, they give off a sophisticated, formal look but, sweaters can also become a more casual and fun look, since sweaters can have fun and colorful prints on them. Sweaters are also perfect for different climates all around the world. Sweaters are usually worn on cold weathered environment, and knitted sweaters are perfect for this type of weather. Cashmere and fuzzy sweaters are also perfect for this kind of weather. My recommendations for wearing this type of clothing is, wear the clothing itself before buying it. These kinds of sweaters are usually itchy, since sweaters with thick materials tend to become itchy, such as wool and alpaca fabrics. Also, try the sweater on for a few minutes, since sweaters are overwhelming on the body since it covers your whole upper body in layers. There is a chance you can sweat off on that sweater if it is too thick for your body or your liking. Now, there are also sweaters for humid type of weather. Fabrics such as linen and cotton and any fabric with a lightweight feel on your body is perfect for this type of weather. Breathability and comfort are also a criteria on choosing sweaters in this type of weather. Another factor to look at is the color of the sweater you're wearing. Also, a good pair of jeans can harmonize with your shirt buy having it go above your waist.

SNEAKERS Last but not the least, sneakers are also an important wardrobe piece, to complete off your wardrobe. Sneakers is like the cherry on top of the clothing statement, your OOTD. Since sneakers are worn on the feet, sometimes it is cannot catch the eye, in a sense. Invest in a very strong and durable sneakers since force is the enemy of the sneakers, and a good durable pair can last long. An example on a good sneaker is white sneakers. These sneakers are the most versatile fashion piece since it matches in outfits in almost everything and, a good white sneakers can elevate an outfit into a fashionable outfit since, white sneakers are blinding to the eye. Meaning it can catch the attention of people. Also, a good converse black sneakers are also catchy in the eye. These sneakers are black in majority but, white on the outline which gives off that balance of shades in your feet. Now these are some of my recommended brands of sneakers: Converse They are at the top of the game with sneakers, and shoes in general. Converse create is unique and exotic logo, perfect for people who wants that casual and chic look. Vans These brand of sneakers are for a certain type of look -- the skater look. Their iconic black and white checkered sneakers are perfect for that skater-y, cool look. Adidas Now some would say that Nike is better. But, Nike's purpose in their shoes is for sport and comfort and Adidas are for fashion purposes.
