Today is Bisexual Visibility Day!
I figured it would be a good time to share the main findings of my dissertation study with all of those interested. My dissertation study aimed to understand how identity affirmation may protect bi+ women of color from negative bisexual experiences. Thank you to everyone who participated and/or shared my study. Please let me know your thoughts and if you have any questions.

[Alt text: Yellow background with three fists raised in the air. Text reads “Thank you for participating! Check your inboxes and spam folders to see if you won a gift card from the survey’s raffle.”]
Thank you once again to everyone who has shared and/or participated in my study on bisexual+ women of color! The raffle winners have been selected and sent an email with a link to the gift card. Please check your inbox and spam folders. Unfortunately, if you did not receive an email, you did not win.
In terms of the study's findings, the data has been analyzed, and I'm waiting for feedback from my dissertation committee chair. Once my dissertation has been defended (aka once I've presented it to complete my doctoral program requirements), I'll share a link to the dissertation and create an infographic of the main findings.
Thank you again!

Thank you to everyone who has shared and/or participated in my dissertation study on bi+ women of color. Data is currently in the process of being analyzed. Within the next several weeks, I'll be sending out emails to the participants who won the raffle for one of the fifty $25 gift cards.
As with my previous study, I'll make an infographic of general study findings to share once the writing is completed.
Thank you again!

Hi! I wanted to send your survey to a bi femme friend, but I got an error message on the UMSL page saying "Sorry, this survey is not currently active." Did this study end already? (Thanks for doing this awesome research BTW!)
Hi anon! I'm so sorry! The study is still active. I don't know why an error message keeps popping up. I've tried to edit the link but it still happens. Here's the long version of the link that should work:
https://umsl.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4VLx9wZs1w6e0Zw
Hopefully one of these will work or I can figure out why the link in the main post is being wonky.
Thank you so much for pointing this out and for your help! Appreciate it!

Radio Free Monday
Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday! Ways to Give: rilee16 has had to pay for multiple unexpected medical scans out of pocket; they need help covering utilities and October rent. You can read more, reblog, and find giving information here. Help for Free: agentlewomanandascholar is a doctoral student in Library Science and is currently running a survey on AO3 reading habits to gain a better understanding of how fans read on AO3. You can read more and take the survey here. biwocstudy is looking for participants for her research study who are bi+ (bisexual, pansexual, queer, fluid, etc.) women/femmes of color. Must also be 18 years old or older and currently live in the U.S., Canada, or U.S. territories to participate. This is an anonymous online survey that should take 15 to 20 minutes to complete. The purpose of the study is to understand how bi+ women/femmes of color feel about themselves and perceive positive and negative experiences based on their sexual identity. Tumblr user biwocstudy will share updates and results of the study on her page as she did with her previous study when she is able to. You can read more and find links to participate here. News to Know: arukou-arukou linked to A People’s WPA, a project of the US Department of Arts and Culture. In the spirit of the original Works Progress Administration, the department commissioned artists and art collectives from marginalized communities to create posters around ambitious and radical policies grounded in seven themes: healing, nourishment, liberation, regeneration, remembering, truth telling, and deepening democracy. You can download the posters as well as a packet giving guidelines for grassroots activism here. Recurring Needs: daydream-gemz continues to face severe and ongoing financial difficulties due to welfare benefits being under a review, which is due to worsening mental health and the UK’s controversial changes to how benefits are assessed and assigned. Updates are available at the main blog; you can donate via PayPal or via Ko-fi. Katy linked to grrlcookery, who is raising funds for gas and car repair among other expenses; you can read more here or give via paypal or via Ko-Fi. And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form. If you’re new to fundraising, you may want to check out my guide to fundraising here.

Hi all!
So update! My article is finally available! Here's the link where you can see an impact statement of the study and also be linked to where you can find the publication if you have access via a university: https://link.growkudos.com/1swtbh9olj4
If you don't have university access, you can use the link following to view the article. This is a prepublication copy of the article. Basically, what that means is it has the same information as the published version, it's just not formatted in the journal style. Here's the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HFEcCk_32Tmbm6-2cG9XgpgZPeaHCgrM/view?usp=sharing

Hi folks! Happy Pride! It's taken longer than I expected but I'm excited to share with you the results of the study I collected data on back in 2019. Above is the infographic of the study's main findings. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared my post when I was looking for participants. I seriously appreciated it!
My inbox is open and I'm happy to answer any questions about the study. The actual research article isn't available yet but once it is I'll let y'all know.
Thank you again!

Slide 1: Pink, purple, and blue background with a white box. Inside the box is text that reads, "Research results. Bisexual+ Women of Color and Body Satisfaction. Let's discuss."
Slide 2: Same background. Different text. "Helpful definitions. Bisexual+/Bi+ is an umbrella term used for those who have the potential to be emotionally, romantically, and/or physically attracted to more than one gender identity (i.e. bisexual, pansexual, queer, fluid, etc.). Not everyone who falls under this umbrella likes this term though. Academic literature sometimes uses the terms plurisexual or nonmonosexual. The second bullet point reads Internalized Biphobia/ Binegativity: A person's negative views and feelings about themselves being bisexual+ that stem from society's biases. The third bullet point reads Internalized Racism: A person's negative views and feelings about themself being part of a racially marginalized community that stem from society's biases."
Slide 3: Same background. Image of four sketched women of varying skin color wearing some combination of blues, pinks, and purples. "Women, Objectification, and Body Satisfaction. According to objectification theory, cisgender and transgender women's bodies are constantly under scrutiny and objectified by the society around them and unconsciously by themselves. Objectification of oneself, or self-objectification, may predict body dissatisfaction, internalized discrimination, and other mental health issues, especially in women with marginalized identities. Source: Comiskey et al., 2020; Fredrickson & Roberts, 1997."
Slide 4: "Does internalized discrimination predict body dissatisfaction in bi+ women of color? Yes, internalized biphobia and internalized racism, respectively, did predict body dissatisfaction in the 292 predominantly bisexual cisgender women of color who participated in the survey. Source: Paul, in press."
Slide 5: "Why does it matter? Bisexual+ individuals report greater mental health-related issues, such as depression, anxiety, and disordered eating than their lesbian and gay counterparts. This may likely be due to invalidation and/or stereotypes about bisexuality. However, there is a small amount of research on the unique experiences of bisexual+ individuals, especially bi+ people of color. The more we know about predictors of negative mental health that are unique for bisexual+ women of color, the more mental health professionals can help their clients with these intersecting identities."

Have you watched Motherland fort salem? If you haven't watched it, I recommend it. The lead actor of the series is a Queer character. The subject of the series and the couple Raylla are so great
Hi anon!
I haven’t watched it though my mom has. It definitely looks interesting though and I’m all for more queer representation in the media!

UPDATE!
Hi all!
I know it’s been awhile. Unfortunately a lot of research, I’m learning, is just waiting. Anyway, I’m happy to share with all of you that the manuscript for this study has FINALLY been accepted by a journal!
What does that mean?
I can finally start preparing how I want to share the results with all of you! Making sure I came back with results to the people who participated and/or helped shared my study is super important to me as a researcher. Now that I have a journal that’s accepted my manuscript, I don’t have to worry about people trying to use my data as their own (something that apparently has happened too often in academia). I’ll either make some easy to understand infographics and/or video that’ll explain the major results.
So yeah! This is very exciting news that I look forward to sharing with you all. As always, thank you! 💖💜💙
