No, no, fuck the duffer brothers who DID write those scenes.
so we all agree "mike wheeler is the heart of the group" is bullshit, right?
we all agree that it is will byers instead right?
in season 1, everyone banded together (and found el) to find will.
in season 2, will was more than happy about max joining the party. but guess who wasn't? mike wheeler.
in season 2, everyone worked together to help will.
in season 3, mike was literally going away from his friend group to make out with el at all given times.
in season 3, we saw will being the only one who stayed till the very end when dustin returned because he missed his friend.
in season 3, will just wanted all of his friends to spend time TOGETHER (because let's be real, will would've been so happy just doing whatever, not only d&d, as long as all six of them were together. just look at how excited he was when they all were about to leave for the hill)
in season 3, will let go of his very rightful anger towards his friends who kept ignoring what he had to say, because he thinks it's for the betterment of the group.
in season 3, will is even willing to let go of his own interests (playing D&D) if it meant his friends would still spend time with him whenever he returned to hawkins next.
in season 4, max, lucas, dustin and mike are literally falling apart because they're all too into their heads (and i don't really blame them here - especially not lucas and max). mike and dustin weren't even that supportive of lucas joining basketball when his reasons of doing so were extremely valid.
in season 4, mike is quite literally having relationship problems with el by not being able to say "i love you" (and the confession scene doesn't seem to have done much either because why is el still not talking to him at the end?)
in season 4, will brushes aside his own feelings for mike and instead focuses on helping mike and el get back together because he loves them both dearly and he just wants to see them happy together.
in season 4, mike only really confesses after will byers pushes him to. shouldn't it have been mike's instinct which "really kicked in" when he sees his loved one is in danger?
will byers is the heart of the group and fuck whoever wrote those scenes because you don't even know your characters at this point.

Part five: All Pieces Falling Together
Shawn Hunter x Dean Forester
Series Guide
———— Now ————
He took Eric's advice and brought dessert. A cheesecake because Dean had mentioned how much he liked cheesecake at some point and that fact just stuck enough in his brain for him to remember.
He changed his outfit five times, calling Eric every single time until eventually Eric blocked him.
Dean opened the door of his moms house with his perfect dimpled smile, kissing Shawn on the cheek as he invited him in. Shawn squealed inside, his skin lighting up from the contact.
"You mentioned liking steak once so I already have them going. Do you want to help me finish the sides?" Dean asked as he led Shawn through the living room to the kitchen.
"Yeah, I can do that," Shawn nodded, trying to shake off the rest of his nerves. It was hard to do when Dean looked the way he did. His hair was soft, hanging over his forehead until he brushed it back with his fingers. He was wearing a deep maroon colored sweater, the sleeves pulled up to his elbows, and navy blue jeans with black socks. He looked utterly domestic grilling steaks on the back porch as Shawn mashed potatoes, adding all the ingredients that Dean laid out. Conversation came easy after so many little unofficial dates at the cafe. Shawn's favorite thing to do was make Dean laugh so he could get the full experience of his dimples and laugh lines. Every opportunity Shawn got to make Dean laugh, he took.
Dean finished the steaks and Shawn finished the sides with very little silences lapsing between them. They set the food out on the kitchen table and ate as they talked. Dean told him all about his mom and what it was like growing up in so many different places. Shawn got a distinct knot in his stomach that felt a lot like dread as he thought about Dean having to leave.
"She really likes it here though, I doubt we'll move again," Dean had shrugged casually but Shawn had relaxed significantly.
"How long have you been out to your mom?" Shawn had asked at some point.
"I think," Dean looked up in thought, "around third grade."
"Third grade?" Shawn questioned, eyebrows nearly touching his hairline.
"Came home one day wanting to marry Tommy Fischer, she kind of connected the dots after that. Plus all of the Heath Ledger and Johnny Depp posters that plastered my wall by ninth grade."
"Really?" Shawn raised a teasing eyebrow.
"What can I say, I've always had a thing for brunettes," he grinned and Shawn blushed. "So, how come you're not out? Not that you need to be, of course, I'm just curious," he added hastily.
"I don't know," Shawn shrugged, making lines in the remnants of his mashed potatoes with his fork. "I mean, I'm out to Eric, Cory's brother, because he's the one I had my gay awakening about. Plus Cory's dad and sister because they were there to witness it. Eric's been the only one I could talk to about my feelings. I probably wouldn't be as comfortable with myself as I am now without Eric."
"You're not, like, secretly in love with him right?" Dean chuckled to ease the question but Shawn could tell he was serious.
"No, no!" he was quick to assure. "Eric's like a brother to me now. He's just the only person who really knows me."
"What about Cory?" Dean asked.
"I'm just scared of changing our friendship," Shawn shrugged. "I want to tell him, I just don't want him to look at me differently."
"Did Eric look at you differently?"
"Of course not," Shawn shook his head.
"If the brother of your best friend can accept you for who you are, I'd like to think you're actual best friend would too." Dean stood up from the table, abandoning his empty plate. "But that's entirely up to you and whatever you're comfortable with. Let's go watch that movie?" He held his hand out and Shawn took it without hesitation.
They settled on the couch, sitting shoulder to shoulder, slowly slumping into each other. Shawn couldn't help but get distracted by Dean, nearly watching the entire movie through his eyes. The night had just been too perfect, it felt like a dream.
"I'd think it would be hard to follow a movie when you're staring at me." Shawn averted his eyes, his cheeks warm. "I didn't say I minded." He felt fingers at his chin, guiding his attention back up. He met Dean's eyes, green dancing under the light of the tv. There was a moment where Shawn thinks he should be panicking, as Dean is leaning in, he thinks he should be shaking with nerves, but all he feels is excitement. Excitement and anticipation before Dean's lips meet his and they're kissing.
His first kiss with a boy was Eric, and that was just Eric helping him figure out his feelings. Shawn didn't even reciprocate that kiss. But this kiss, this kiss with Dean that now involved tongue, was earth-shattering. His hands were a little calloused, less dainty than the hands of girls he's kissed, and they cupped his face and neck with gentle guidance.
Despite his nerves before the date, Shawn felt nothing but contentment. His hand came up to Dean's cheek, slipping back into his hair, gripping lightly as their kiss depended. He was pushed back until his back was flat on the couch and Dean was on top of him, his leg between both of Shawn's. Shawn kept one hand in Dean's hair, placing the other hand at his hip, sliding under his shirt enough to feel smooth, warm skin. Dean kissed like they had all the time in the world, but also like he was dying of thirst and Shawn was the last glass of water on earth.
They kissed until they were breathless and their lips were tingly. Shawn pulled away first, breathing heavily against Dean's cheek. Dean chuckled, lowering his head down to Shawn's neck, kissing his shoulder once then just resting there.
"So, your first date with a guy, what does the survey say?" He asked, sitting back up, tugging his shirt down from his mid-stomach where Shawn's hands had been generously exploring.
"I can't speak for other dates," Shawn said as he sat up, his legs still mostly wrapped around Dean, "but my first date with Dean Forester has pretty much ruined me for all other dates." Dean smiled, leaning in for one more kiss, shorter but just as passionate.
"Good."
————————
"Is Cory here?" Shawn bit the inside of his lip nervously as he stood on the back porch, staring nervously at Eric.
"Yeah, why? You okay?" Eric opened the door wider so that he could come in. Shawn stepped inside, scanning the kitchen to make sure they were alone.
"I'm going to tell him," he said.
"Really?" Eric smiled, patting Shawn's shoulder.
"I've been dating Dean for six months, it feels wrong to keep hiding him," Shawn said. "Plus, I just want Cory to know."
"I'm proud of you," Eric said.
"Could you be there when I tell him?" Shawn asked, his throat going dry already.
"Of course," Eric said like it was obvious. Maybe it was. Eric had really become Shawn's greatest supporter. He'd even given Dean the shovel talk the first time they met. Despite Dean being taller than Eric, he looked genuinely terrified by the time Eric was done.
"Okay," Shawn nodded, trying to psych himself up. "Okay," he repeated as he led the way upstairs.
Cory was sitting at his desk when they got to the room. Shawn looked back to Eric, getting an encouraging smile in return.
"Hey, Cor," Shawn greeted, twisting his fingers together as he moved to sit on the edge of Eric's bed.
"Hey, Shawn, what's up?" Cory smiled, turning in his chair. His smile faltered when he noticed Eric standing by the bed, his arms crossed. "What's going on?" he questioned.
"I have to tell you something," Shawn said, looking down at his lap.
"Is everything okay?" He asked.
"I just want to say first, before I tell you, that the reason I didn't tell you was because I didn't want to change our friendship," Shawn began, licking his lips nervously.
"You're making me nervous, Shawn," Cory chuckled to ease the tension but Shawn was too nervous to be eased.
"Just give him a second," Eric said. Shawn took a deep breath, sliding his hands up and down his thighs.
"I was scared that you'd see me differently, but you're my best friend, and you mean a lot to me, so I hope you don't feel bad that I took my time telling you," Shawn said.
"And if you get mad about it I'll kick your ass," Eric warned. Shawn threw him a look but he just shrugged.
"I'm thoroughly worked up, can you tell me now?" Cory asked. A silence passed over the room as Shawn worked up his nerve again. He slid his sweaty palms against his knees, then looked up at Cory, squaring his shoulders.
"I have a boyfriend," he said. Cory didn't do or say anything for a solid thirty seconds. Then he chuckled uncomfortably and Shawn's stomach did somersaults.
"What?" He spluttered out. "Like," he laughed again, "like a boyfriend?"
"Yeah," Shawn nodded, swallowing hard.
"So you're..." Cory trailed off.
"I'm gay," Shawn nodded.
"Okay," Cory nodded, licking his lips and taking an audible deep breath. "Okay," he said more confidently. "I mean, you're my best friend, Shawn, this doesn't change anything about our friendship. But, I'm glad that you told me. So, Eric..." he pointed to his brother questioningly.
"Is the reason for his gay awakening," he smirked.
"Oh my god, are you dating Eric?!" Cory stood up, looking absolutely horrified.
"No!" Shawn shouted as Eric laughed. "Despite my adolescent crush on him, I am not dating your brother," Shawn said.
"I'm just his straight fairy godmother," Eric grinned. Shawn rolled his eyes as Cory slowly sank back down into his seat.
"So, who are you dating?" He asked.
"Dean Forester," Shawn said.
"That's," Cory nodded, his shoulders falling as he smiled, "I'm really happy for you, Shawn." It felt like a weight was taken off of his shoulders. Especially when Cory started asking questions about Dean, and he could talk about his boyfriend with his best friend, it was surreal.
The following day, Shawn brought Dean to the Mathews house for dinner. Alan and Amy treated him the same way they treated Shawn and Eric's girlfriends. Asking him questions that sometimes bordered on interrogating. Dean took it all in stride, much better than the nervous wreck Shawn was when he met Dean's mom.
At the end of the night, standing by Dean's car to bid him goodbye, Shawn felt happier than ever.
"I was thinking maybe next week," Shawn paused, leaning against Dean with his hands buried under the back of his shirt, seeking comfort in his warm skin. "You could meet my family?" He asked.
"I'd love to meet your family, Shawn," Dean smiled.
"Okay," Shawn nodded, leaning down to kiss Dean's shoulder. Dean kissed his forehead just as his phone began to ring. With Shawn refusing to let him go, he fought his phone out of his pocket and answered.
"Hey mom... yeah, I'm about to leave but I have a Shawn stuck to me," he smiled down at him, running the fingers of his free hand through Shawn's hair. "Okay, I'll see you soon." He hung up, draping his arms around Shawn's shoulders and leaning down to kiss him. "I'll see you later, okay?" Shawn groaned, tightening his grip on Dean's waist, pressing his face against his chest. Dean chuckled, holding him for a few more seconds, giving him one more kiss before trying to pry him off. "Come on, baby, you have to let me go," Dean said softly. Shawn groaned again, slowly and unwillingly releasing his hold.
Dean cupped his cheeks before could step back, and guided him into a slow, deep kiss. When he pulled away, he smiled, trying to memorize the content, flushed look on Shawn's face.
"I love you," Dean whispered. Shawn's eyes went wide and his lips curled in a smile.
"I love you too," he said. Dean kissed him again, their smiles making it perfect.
